Lockett (#37), you are welcome..:). I saved the shortcut to your website on my desktop; will check it out sometime later on. ;)

Kalmanizer (#39), you are welcome. Your review was just fine, I think. Don't worry about 'competing' with other reviewers; they have their style, while you have yours - do yours like you did today..:). Think of it this way - don't focus on what you feel you can't do, but instead think of what you can do; think positive, instead of negative...:). Like LeKanaw (#43) said, "stop putting yourself down, you did good!"

To my previous post, there is a small, (and slow) video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqshTk-4h-A in case you forgot what Lemmings is like, but this level is only the first and easiest level.

Thanks

Hello everyone!

I have not had a chance to download this game yet, as I just got home, but skimming through the comments, I noticed several references to lemmings, so I wanted to post this before it is too late. I loved Lemmings when I was younger, challenging, and addictive with simple and concise controls. The problem is that the Lemmings, Tribes, and the like do not run well on modern systems, however, there is a free open-source version called Pingus, (named after the Linux mascot) that I highly recommend. It has the same type of gameplay, but better graphics, sound, some different abilities (like jumping), a built-in level editor ( Whiterabbit, I know you love these), and also supports multiplayer. It is fun, challenging, and addictive, plus there are different level sets, and original graphics. Unfortunately (to my knowledge), there is no support for MAC, Windows only, but it is an EXCELLENT game, in my opinion, and can be downloaded from here:

http://pingus.seul.org/download.html

Anyways, hopefully some people will see this and give it a try before it gets too late.

Thanks

@11-Pirelli: Thank you very much for the You Tube link. :-)
We can at least understand what we are supposed to do!

@17/24-kalmanizer: Thank you for your review and for the on-line game link :-) And, stop putting yourself down, you did good! ;-)

As always, Thank You W.Rabbit for helping us. You are the Best!
I learned to rely in your reviews, I dismiss the "thumbs up/down" vote count. People vote without downloading or playing w it, it's of no help!
Cheers everybody! M.

Reality check.

http://www.arcadetown.com/ww2pacificheroes/game.asp
Look at those screen shots and realize that the game mentioned has to have decent enough flight physics, adequate 3D scenery, and a half way decent AI for the opponents.

Compare it to this 'game'.
The music is the usual techno crap that one can expect when it's made by someone who is barely old to have to shave.
The graphics are either made by someone who has no drawing skill and doesn't care, thinks he has skill or thinks it's cool to look as if his 4 year old brother drew it.
It has funky, in a bad way, controls.

The only things the game I mentioned and this offering share are that both are shareware and both ask for 19.95 USD.

Judging the game on the intro, screenshots and website is not by definition a bad thing. Anyone with a bit of experience and lots of gaming experience can make a distinct and pretty accurate guess if something will have decent animation, graphics, playability as well as determine if the programmer has any actual skill. E.g.: a game like this needing a download of 16 MB is rather telling. And no, it isn't that I have a 8086 PC nor that I only have a 80 MB HD (in fact I have a combined total 460 GB HD available)

For what it's worth however, I don't bother with the entire thumbs up or down. To often you can see that the entire thumbs voting gets rigged by the makers, friends and family, of the game/software that it has rendered it useless. To often you see +80% thumbs up for something that is bug ridden, unstable and bad.

You shouldn’t be thanking me, I should be thanking you. I speak the truth when I say that your reviews are AMAZING & the BEST! My reviews are meaningless (and probably stupid, lol) compared to yours. If GGOTD had an option to vote on your reviews instead of a free game for one day I believe you would score a perfect 100%. WHile I would score a perfect big fat zero. :)

THUMBS UP for whiterabbit. :D

Thanks for liking my terribly written review. :)

Lets take a poll. How many people think that my reviews were horrible and I should never write another review again? :D

I can't write reviews everyday because A) I suck at it and B) I'm too hyper and can't sit still long enough to write a half normal review. C) I don't know how to write a half normal review. D) How can I compete with whiterabbit who writes the best reviews on earth? Ok now I'm starting to talk to myself. :)

Oh wow, I checked out the Deluxe version of Crayon physics via a YouTube video. The deluxe version isn't released yet, but it definitely looks cool. The original version is freeware and can be downloaded from :

http://www.kloonigames.com/blog/games/crayon/

Thanks again Phil.

A game not actually the same, but which crayon physics reminded me of because of the excellent physics is a game called Chain Reaction, I bought it a few years ago and have found it really interesting and definitely worth the money they are asking for it. It comes with a levels editor so you can make your own levels to. Check it out by following the link below:

The Draw play game was quite satisfying for a free online game. I've put it in my favorites under online games. Thanks for that link almanizer. Check your Email :)

Thanks for the response Retroboy and Morten, I realise why people do iit, but I was so surprised to see it happen before my eyes. I'd just checked the game giveaway as it was change over time according to my clok but the game hadn't changed over. 30 seconds later the new game was up and before I'd even started to download it there were two negatives. Thank Phil for the heads up on crayon physics and to Kalmanizer for the link to other drwaing games plus the compliment about my reviews. I personally don't think they are that good as I'm always rushing them out instead of researching the game properly and playing it for a few hours so as to get a much better idea about the game play. (although I do sometimes. Thankfully I do have a reasonable percentage of the games given away so already know what they are like. I suppose as Terry mentions the thumbs down could have been made by community members that had already played the game previously.

Actually, kalmanizer (#17 and 24), I enjoyed your reviews also, and would like to see them on a daily basis, or as often as you can/wish to post them.

Stephen (#9), you are welcome. I have decided against downloading this game mostly because of the painting aspect, as I am not a painter...to say the least...as well as for some of the other issues mentioned, i.e., the controls.

BTW Lockett, I like to read your reviews also, and they play a part in my decisions on downloading, or not. :)

Difficult controls, but bearable after a couple of levels. I've played 20 out of the 30 levels now, and I find it to be a very nice game concept. The music is quite horrible and repetitive though, so I find myself wanting to throw the evil DJ a couple of guys just to shut the music up, but it's easier to just switch off the sound. The DJ is poorly executed, he's always following you and not being interested in the guys he's actually supposed to capture. I think I would prefer other, stationary enemies to avoid like the various lethal machines in Lemmings.

I give it thumbs up, but I don't think it will last you much more than an hour or two, so if you're scrapped for money and can only buy one 20$ game, you should probably try something else. As a freebie, it's quite good enough.

My review of Sonoro TV:

This game feels like a cross between Line Rider and Lemmings, but it's hardly as likeable as either. Picture Lemmings, but guiding them with drawn lines, and you have the basic idea. It sounds like an interesting concept(especially considering that such physics-based games as Line Rider hadn't been made at the time of the game's creation), but it's so flawed that it's nearly unplayable. The main problem is that you have to move the player character to the place that you're painting a floor, platform, or wall at - no small task when both movement and painting are controlled by the same hand. On top of that, the "voices"(diminutive personifications of musical sounds) move too quickly to catch up to, draw a line, and repeat the process. When you factor in the Evil DJ who's constantly destroying your work, the game is just awful.

The graphics are better, though, especially when compared to DevilishGames' previous offering Nuts & Scrap. The intro has much better resolution, the menu effects are well-done, and the paint is nice and blobby. The only real problem is the character sprites, which seem to have been badly scaled-up. The intro's comic pages are drawn well, though - and are translated much better than the intro in Nuts & Scrap.

The sounds are interesting. While the intro "music" consists solely of scratching LPs, the menu music is beat-driven techno - as is the in-play music. I like the music, but the sound effects are surprisingly generic.

As for the theme, I have to say that it's pretty dumb. Apparently, there's a game show called Sonoro TV, where DJs have to paint floors, walls, and trampolines to guide physically embodied sounds to some kind of bell. It makes no sense whatsoever, especially considering that the gameplay has nothing to do with music. DJ game show theme in HipHopMania(it's a Japanese arcade game, for those who don't know)? Yes. DJ game show theme in a physics-based Lemmings game? Not at all.

Overall, I give Sonoro TV a score of six out of ten(six for gameplay, eight for graphics, seven for sound, and three for theme). The concept was original, but the execution completly killed it. If DevilishGames had had the sense to get rid of the pointless character control and ditched the DJ game show theme, it could have been so much better.

At least it didn't have peeing robots.

I suggested that they offer this game back when they were giving away the craptacular Nuts & Scrap. I've played a few levels of Sonoro, and while it's far from perfect (the physics take a little getting used to), it's a keeper.

Thank you, GAOTD, for hearing the outcry of the people (me).

@ copMom and @ Buckleysmom

Your welcome and your welcome to everyone else in advance. :) I am GLAD that you found my terribly written review was helpful, lol. :) Btw the game link that I listed to play that free game isn't exactly the same as todays free giveaway. It was just to give you a sorta an idea of what todays game is like. It's not exactly a GREAT example but nevertheless the game I listed was more enjoyable to play or so I felt. (No hard feelings to the author of today's game - it would just be GREAT if he can rewrite the tutorial with a better explanation of how to play todays game)

@ Debbie

When you download there should be the game installation and there should be a readme file or folder or whatever the heck it's called. Open it and there should be a code. Copy the code and then paste it into the game asking code. :)

I don't usually write reviews because whiterabbit is the BEST at it. I just felt like filling in for her because she didn't have much time to play the game today. Only problem is I can't even understand how to play the first board of the game so i don't think my review was much helpful anyways, lol. Besides whiterabbit does a MUCH better job writing reviews then me. :)

Happy New Year everybody! :)

Thanks for an original game choice today. While I like the mouse control games the best, this one was a bit hard with key AND mouse control. It downloaded and setup fine in Windows XP, but this just isn't a game that I am keeping. I had to call my husband at work to uninstall ... he had me search my system for the program ... so much simplier using the ‘Add/Remove’ program on my computer. Thanks.

First of all let me begin by saying that if there is a game on GAOTD that just is not my type of game I do not vote at all. I only vote on those games that are normally the type of game that i would play. For an example a Simulation, Tycoon, or a Strategy game. I am also not one of those people that like to complain and I try to keep an open mind and I give a game a chance before I give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down.

I normally don’t write reviews because…..
A) I suck at it
and
B) Because whiterabbit writes the best reviews.

Todays game is Sonoro TV. I downloaded and installed it and I began by reading the tutorials. 3 times the tutorial froze on me. I then uninstalled the game and then reinstalled the game again. (By the way some of the commentators were commenting that there is no uninstall button on the add/remove. If you click start and then go where the game is and hover the mouse over the word of the game there should be an option to uninstall the game) I began by reading the tutorial. The tutorial only teaches you how the paint works and how to use the paint. It doesn’t teach you at all on how to control the other characters in the game. I couldn’t even complete the tutorial cause i had no idea how to move the other character that they wanted me to bring to the exit. I then started the game and to be honest with you I had no idea what the heck I was supposd to do. I then went and uninstalled this game. I was REALLY disappointed because I have played other drawing games. In the end I hate to say but I had to give this game a thumbs down for it’s lack of instructions and for just being plain confusing to play.

For those that normally like drawing games if you go to this link (you don’t even have to install anything the game is right on the site) you can play this similiar and much easier and more enjoyable to use flash game http://www.gamegecko.com/drawplay.php or if you type in Google the keywords “draw lines game” you can find a number of great drawing games.

Whiterabbit, some people are voting thumbs down simply because the game is not their cup of tea. They're looking for something specific like a shooter and not getting it, so they mouse-click the thumbs-down button regardless of how good the platformer actually is because they didn't want a platformer. It's not much effort to click that thumbs-down button.

(I'm not one of those, btw, but I have seen similar reactions on other web-voting venues and I understand it.)

Even though it isn't listed in the add/remove programs list, it does have an uninstall option in it's start menu "all programs" folder.

It's really not an amazing game at all. I would not pay money for it. In fact, I played around 3 levels and then quit. If you could just draw and didn't have to move the little guy, it would be a lot less frustrating. It tries to be a lemmings/kirby canvas curse mash up but it fails in being fun.

Thanks RosnSC and Faatonica for your comments. :)

The tutorial is quite short and only shows you the movement of your character and how to paint the platforms that you'll need to move the creatures from a to b. It's not as interesting as Lemmings in my opinion, but still looks like a worthwhile game to try, though I do think you'll have to spend some time practicing your painting technique before the game can be played effectively.

Installation:

The 15.8Mb zip file unzips to two files; the read me doc and the dual activation and set up module. Today’s installation comes with a code to unlock the installer. So you will need to open up the read me and copy the code that you’ll find within, so that when you start the installation you can paste the code into the field that is presented when you first click on the set up file; once this is done you can proceed with the normal installation procedure. The installation wizard does give you the opportunity to install the game to wherever you may wish to install; though the default is set to the boot drives program files. (* see notes at the end of the review)

Introduction & Game info:

This is something quite different from the usual games we’ve had recently. The aim of this game is to save several creatures from the bad guy DJ Sonoro. You have to get the creatures and your character from one part of the playing field to another using a painting tool (your mouse cursor), which enable you to paint platforms. Thus avoiding the obstacles that usually comprises of an empty space. There are six colors, but you only have a limited amount of paint, so you need to be careful how much you use. The bad guy DJ Sonoro can destroy these platforms if he encounters them. The character is moved using the keyboard arrow keys and the mouse is used to create platforms for the creatures. For the painting tool to work it has to be placed near rhe character. If it is too far away it will show up as a red X. You must save at least 50% of the creatures, each of which represents a particular note of a song before you can progress to the next level. There are 30 missions in all which have to be played linearly.

The main menu is quite simple, though again it’s unusually presented. You have to hover the mouse pointer over a colored spot to see the menu item. There are several menu items including the usual as well as a basic tutorial link and a Gallery of in game screenshots that I’m presuming are taken automatically throughout the game :( The options menu allows you to play the game in windowed mode though by default it’s set at full screen. There are no other options. To turn the music off you will have to use your volum controls. You have to follow the story line when you turn the game on. There seems to be no way of avoiding the story other than clicking the enter or space bar, which then scrolls through the pages.

System Requirements:

Operative System ………. Windows 9x, ME, XP and Vista.
Processor ………………>500Mhz.
Memory………………….128Mb of RAM.
40 Mb or hard disk.
Sound card.

Conclusion:

Well it definitely is different from any game I’ve played before. Okay it’s a combination of several genres, but definitely interesting. I think this game will take some getting used to as the controls are quite hard to master, but with practice I think this will be a worthwhile game to play. I’ll certainly be keeping it for now as I am intrigued by it. I haven’t succeeded in passing the first level yet  so can’t comment on it further yet.
I’m tempted to give this a good score simply because of its originality, but feel that that would be biased as it needs more than originality. So no score today. We are visiting family, so I won’t have time to play it any more today, otherwise I’d have given it a more in depth review and a score appropriate to my feelings about the game.

As I’ve said several times previously, if you have any other partitioned or physical drives other than the boot drive then its good practice to install this non essential program on one of those rather than the boot drive. As Phil has pointed out previously, installing a game onto a drive other than the boot drive may cause a slight reduction in performance of the game; however, installing the game onto the boot drive will actually cause more of a performance reduction than if you install it elsewhere, (more so, if the boot drives is almost full). Therefore to keep the performance of your computer in excellent order following the simple advice above, as well as all the other little tweaks that have been mentioned previously.

Perhaps the early thumbs down are because, like me, they've tried it, found the control method annoying (mouse in right hand, keys to use on the right!). It doesn't leave an entry in the 'Add/Remove' programs either so you have to search for the directory and uninstall!

Bye Bye Sonoro TV!

The game is very good, is difficult but very fun. Thanks to GGOTD by a modern game.

The tutorial was too frustrating and wouldn't allow me to exit and play. Ended up hitting "end process". Don't like that it wasn't listed on my uninstaller program either.

When I saw new concept of gameplay and control, I was suprised, but don't worry, we haven't left the 80s yet. It's a lemmings-clone, with the added frustration of having somebody shoot at you at the same time.

Dear Stephen,
Hope this new year will bring improvement to your health.

Stephen (#1), I usually am up "when the change over happens", and most times see votes already showing; sometimes even a comment or two. The only way *I* could vote/comment this early 'in the game' is if I'd already tried the software program, say on a previous trial run. As for this game...well, I've never seen a game of that type before, and feel skeptical toward it; will be watching to see what others have to say about it. :)

I'm not usually up when the change over happens so I was surprised to see two thumbs down (and 2 thumbs up) before anyone had had a reasonable chance of even downloading the game. I don't know how anyone can judge a game on the intro and screen shots :?: Weird
