Apart from today's game giveaway there are a few 'not to be missed' excellent games on offer for free via GOG , the Indie Gala site and the Epic Store, the former two for the next few days, worth over £40 when not on sale or free and the latter for a few weeks. The first is a Scifi horror adventure (reminds me a little of Bioshock), the second a stealth adventure. The last is a classic platformer, well worth getting if you don't already own it. I've posted details over in the game discussion forums and at the end of this review. All have from very to overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam; however the free versions all are free standing and not Steam keys. Today's game is a pleasant solitaire game

Solitaire: Legend Of The Pirates 3

In Brief

A pirate themed solitaire game, with the same mechanics as the Halloween solitaire game we were given several weeks ago.

Installation:

Solitaire: Legend Of The Pirates 3 downloads to a MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set-up file and a read me). Those with multiple hard drives can save games on any drive they wish by replacing the C drive with whatever drive letter they wish the game to be installed to or if you have multiple hard drives you can save games on any drive you wish by replacing the C drive letter in the path with whatever drive letter you wish the game to be installed to. The newly installed game is 74.2 MB in size. The game installs to the following path by default:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\Solitaire - Legend Of The Pirates 3

However, if you prefer a different path for installation for example I use G:\Games\ name of game instead of 'C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity\name of game'. You can edit the default path when the Setup - Solitaire: Legend Of The Pirates 3 - Select Destination Location window appears.

Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop, three of which can be safely deleted (i.e. Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game; the name of which may vary each week). If you don't want to install the games shortcut to the desktop during installation, just make sure the install desktop shortcut is unchecked when the 'additional task's window appears; you will still get two of the other MyPlayCity shortcuts installed i.e. the Play Online Games and MyPlayCity Games shortcuts. Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you also uncheck the appropriate checkbox when the 'additional task's window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window).

The Game:

Solitaire: Legend Of The Pirates 3 works on the principle of a chain, cards can be removed from the board so long as they are higher or lower by one from the overturned card next to the pack. They can be of any suit. There is a meter to the top right of the board that fills up when you remove at least five cards in a row without a pause. cards. If it fills completely a number 1 will appear. If you continue to remove cards without a pause, this continues to fill and will then move to number 2, this continues so long as you continue to remove cards in a steady stream. If you take time to remove cards the indicator will reduce. The numbers represent a bonus multiplier that will be added at the end of the round. When your score reaches a maximum, the round ends, even if you haven't removed all of the cards. Some cards give a bonus of 499 points. These can be distinguished from normal cards by the presence of a purple crystal. Also cards bordered with a silver frame are also special cards, that when overturned are gold in color. Collect all of these to complete the level.

There are three bonus buttons available a reshuffle, a Mulligan and a joker. The mulligan allows you to undo the last move, and the joker allows you to take any card from the board, no matter what the card in the exposed pack is.

If you downloaded the Halloween solitaire game on the 27th October 2018, this game has exactly the same mechanics. The only difference is the theme, and the card designs. Looking at the image I posted of level 1, the layouts look the same, however I replayed the game and level 2 was a different layout to today's game.

Conclusion:

Another solitaire game originally published by 8Floor Limited. It's a decent enough solitaire game and an excellent distraction for those weekend days when its too cold or wet to go out. A great family game, with multiple profiles, so you can compete with each other. I'd score Solitaire: Legend Of The Pirates 3 a decent 8 out of 10 for game play graphics and a decent selection of skins for the card packs.

Problems getting the game to work:

If you're having problems installing or activating or getting Solitaire: Legend Of The Pirates 3 to work please visit the FAQ's Thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game are blocked by their security because Themida code has been known to hide malware, (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not); so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though the files (i.e. the setup, read me and setup.gcd files are actually totally free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. You could also try white listing the setup.gcd file. In the almost 12 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.
