Experience the nostalgia of gaming's golden age with this classic arcade game.

The cats in Snowy: Fish Frenzy have a single chance to march onscreen and walk away with their prize: one of the juicy fish Snowy has saved for dinner! Your job is to guide a slap-happy hand across the screen and give the felonious felines a quick smack between their ears. Doing so causes them to drop their booty and sends them flying off-screen, never to return!

As Fish Frenzy progresses, more and more cats appear at once, causing the game to ramp up to a madcap point-and-slap affair. Thankfully, several outrageous powerups are available to help. Just hit a tree and knock one out its leaves! You might get the Air Pump, which allows you inflate cats and send them drifting away like balloons.

LMAO @ comment #27

You do know there are games out there that have photorealistic graphics representing people shooting, exploding, and disemboweling each other, don't you? Kind of pales in comparison to cartoon cats being smacked around, doesn't it?

Another fine Alawar game, the Snowy series is very popular with my youngster, and this one is hilarious. Maybe not in large doses, but smaller regular doses is an advantage for kid's games IMHO. I must confess I also find it very amusing to watch. Excellent giveaway, thanks!

I played it on Vista, Whiterabbit, installed and worked fine.

Now I'm personally a big fan of FPS and other action games, but is it just me that doesn't like the idea of kids learning to smack cats around and slapping the dog to get it to chase the cats off? It's one thing when you're being charged by a monster, but I'm thinking this wouldn't exactly be ASPCA approved, even with the badly worded claim in the beginning about no animals being harmed. Not something I'd want to instill in young minds.

I was glad to find another Snowy game, but the download is misleading.
17.4 MB, but the game actually requires 158.3 MB to install. I realise that the files are zipped, but still it would help to know how big the game is beforehand.

Not the usual Snowy platform game (the elephants are a hoot - fig. & lit.!)
The "slap-a-cat" concept to get rid of the bad guys is novel, at least for a few levels, but then wears out.
Good, too, to have the option for different players, but it's not a "save-and-exit" game, so if you want to reach level 80 (or whatever) you need to do it in one sitting.

Oh, and #13, I made game.giveaway my homepage, so that every time I start my computer, the site comes up and I can check for a new game (at the moment it ends at 6pm Eastern Summer time in Australia, but the new ones are taking a while to come onto the site, which I think someone else has mentioned - now I wait until the next morning)

I don't believe Alawr actually writes the games. I think they're just a distributor, like Big Fish Games. The games are actuually written by the likes of Dream Dale, Aliasworlds, Adept Studios and others.

i have been coming to this site for a few months now but in the past week or so i haven't been able to find the current GGAOTD until there is only a few hours lefts to download it if at all. i have cleared all my history and everything but this seems strange that it has been happening for a few days now. why can't some of us visitors see the current GGAOTD until there isn't enough time left to download it?

My son has been after me to buy this since he downloaded a demo version. I was on the verge of giving in. THANKS GGoTD!! He plays it and has a great time. I don't have anything negative to say, I'm not picky about graphics, etc. If my son has fun with it, it gets a thumbs up from me

To kweendnile comment #19, when you unpack the zip file you get three files, a read me, an activation module and a set up executable. You have to activate the game first by clicking on the activation module, which writes the registration code to the registry; so that when you install the game it is registered. I usually click on the activation module when I've installed the game as well just to be sure; although I don't think it is needed. The read me file usually tells you something similar.

When you click on the activation module, depending upon what firewall you have you will need to allow your computer access to the giveaway site so that the game can be registered. If you are having problems with this just turn off your firewall temporarily, or set up your firewall to allow traffic to the giveaway site. Once that is done you shouldn’t have to bother again.

Once the activation sequence has completed you will get a window popping up that says 'successfully activated’. Close this window to complete the activation process.....A further window will then pop up that opens up a page from the giveaway site, telling you other details about passing on the news about the giveaway and game giveaway sites to your friends and also how long that particular giveaway has to run.

Failing all the above, re download the game from the mirror site and use the activation module as described above. If that fails, uninstall the game then reinstall it again, but remember to activate it using the appropriate module first.

I hope this helps. :)

What 2 say about Alawar games?

They are not really bad games but at the same time they also are not really what I call excellent games.

Graphics are acceptable but not more.
Concepts are so far ok.
AI and gameplay variation: There is just nothing like that.
Flow of the Game: The Flow is just too static - no real time experience.

My advice to Alawar: With the technical quality of your games, to earn money, you should concentrate on programming learning games for small kids. If you want to sell your games to older customers, you should improve the flow of the game and the AI in the first place.

Game programming is one of the most difficult things to do.

p.s., have you checked out Luxor 3 yet Offred comment #1 :) it's fabulous. The first one, which is still a superior game pales into mediocrity when you compare them together. I've already bought it. Alawar, get this one on your book now in time for Christmas as I'm sure a lot of grateful punters here will be checking out your site for Christmas. I would certainly have bought it from you if you had it. :)

This was originally given away just over a year ago, over on the giveaway side of this project. There were only two people who commented and seven people voted with there thumbs...... 71% liked it, lol. Considering the project had only been going for a few weeks that's not bad, but hardly reprasentative of the population.

Check out the following images from a staighforwards search of the web:

http://search.msn.co.uk/images/results.aspx?q=Snowy%3A+Fish+Frenzy&go=Search+Images&form=QBIR

I've got another hydrotherapy appointment this afternoon, so I'm cutting corners again today. I've lifted the following description right out of the read me file that comes packaged within the set up file, and can be found within the games main folder as an html file; It basically tells you all you need to know about the game with respect to what to look forwards to, such as a description of some of the wacky power ups that are promised and at least one incentive to gee you up to at least check out level 15 before you decide this isn't the game for you. I haven't even played it yet and I'm getting impatient to check it out so that I can give a more realistic but biased opinion on whether this is a worthwhile download :)

"Bears like fish. Our charming hero, Snowy, is no exception. In fact, he's caught so many fish for supper, he's attracted a gang of sticky-fingered cats. Even with the help of his bear friends, Snowy can't guard his dinner from all of the felonious felines. Will you lend a helping hand?
Snowy: Fish Frenzy is the tasty new arcade treat from Alawar Entertainment and Aliasworlds. In the game, greedy cats sneak in from all sides of the screen to steal Snowy's fish. You use your mouse to move a glove across the display and smack down the thieves before they make their getaway. To win a level, you must protect at least one of each kind of fish until time runs out. A quick tap on your left mouse button knocks down the robbers for a few seconds, but they'll soon get up and continue their crime spree; holding down your mouse button longer gives you enough power to whack bandits off-screen for good.
As much fun as that is, an arcade game is only as good as its power-ups - and Fish Frenzy has more than a dozen of the wackiest bonus items seen in a game. The Air Pump, for example, inflates cats and sends them drifting away like balloons. Even better, the Tornado tosses intruders off-screen with its untamed whirlwind. We'd love to tell you what you can use on level 15, but we don't want to spoil the surprise! To obtain a power-up, you can click on any number of things in the fully stocked environments; from trees to shallow ponds, there's help hidden on every level if you dare to take the time to find it.
Snowy and his pals also provide assistance, gathering the fish you've salvaged and piling them together. Just be careful to not smack your friends while you're thumping a cat. The guard dogs on hand to chase away robbers enjoy snoozing on the job, though, so feel free to wake them up with a light slap."

Here are the specifications:

- Windows95/98/ME/2000/XP
- Pentium III 700 or higher processor
- SVGA card with 16Mb and Direct3D support;
- 64 MB RAM or above.
- DirectX 8.0 or higher

I've uninstalled Vista again (and definitely wont be reinstalling it until it's been updated with a service pack), so wont be able to say whether you can play it using that OS. If you do run Vista successfully then make sure the game is installed into the x86 programs folder (if you're running the 64 bit version) as this folder has been optimized to run 32 bit programs. If you allow it to install to the default setting, then it should automatically be installed into that folder. If you don't you are almost certainly going to have problems running any 32 bit program in the 64 bit version of Vista.
As usual with most games these days you also require some form of 3D emulation (only 16Mb though) and a copy of Direct X, which comes bundled with the likes of Windows XP and Vista. So if you are running an earlier operating system (OS) then you may need to download a copy. Not a bad thing though as once you have a copy, more or less all games that require it should work. Also you can check up the specifications of your OS, music and graphics spec's. Check out my post from two days ago for a download link if you don't have it already. It is free, but don't download the DX10 version unless you do have Vista and a suitable graphics card as otherwise it's useless. DX9 should just about cover all eventualities. It does say yolou require DX 9 for this game, but in the readme it says DX8. If you're not sure, just go to the start menu, click on run and type in dxdiag and then OK. If the DX Diagnostics window pops up, you definitely have a copy of one version of Direct X. I keep mentioning this fact for those who are new to the project and arn't up to speed yet with computer know how etc. :) I don't mean to come over condescendingly, so if I do I apologise in advance. I know that the majority will know enough to sort it themselves.

The options menu contains only a music and sound slider. There is no windowed mode unfortunately, so this will be a difficult one for those who like to sneak in some game time at work. (you naughty person, lol). The help menu is easy to understand, with only one page of illustrated help; it automatically pops up when you first start the game, and is available during gameplay by clicking the 'Esc' key once, which brings up a window that gives access to both the help menu, the main menu and a continue button. The main thing to know apart from the main point about the game is how to use the mouse button effectively, for smacking the naughty cats and to wake up your allies such as the dog, as well as to help find those hidden power ups mentioned above. Thankfully the game is fully mouse controlled.

I found the graphic cute, but there is little variation throughout the whole 80 levels of this game, all with similar landscapes and the same objects such as trees, posts and buildings used throughout. It also lacks a difficulty setting, despite the details over on Alawars site saying it does in the full version; so for the kids, that IMO this game is directed at, will probably find it hard going as the game progresses as it definitely gets harder and harder as you progress. I like the problem solving aspect to the game, which is again levelled to the childens level of ability with respect to management. Ensuring you save at least one fish of each type on the playing field can become hard to accomplish when you're wizzing around slapping everything in sight, including the trees and the huts you see trying to find the novel power ups that are at least in the early stages of the game found in only one place at a time. At the start of some levels you will find a few power ups laying around, but usually to obtain a power up (of which there are twelve to find during the game) you have to slap specific objects hard to get them. Once the scattering of power ups have been mopped up you have to pick up any you've dislodged from trees or buildings before you can obtain another one from the same source. I couldn't figure out what all the power ups were supposed to do because when I picked 'some' of them up, there was no indication as to where they had gone; unlike some power ups such as the squeaky baby hammer and the balloon pump, which once picked up could be activated by clicking on a small window at the bottom of the playing area, and could be used for short periods before they expired. These are definitely useful when there were lots of cats trying to raid your fish as it was much quicker incapacitating them than using the slap facility. Once a power up was activated, you couldn't slap anything until it's time was up.

I progressed through 12 levels very quickly, so would reckon that this game only has a few hours of playability in it at the most, which is not worth the $19.95 thats being asked for it. I would expect much more replay value for that sort of money; even with a kiddies game. You can run multiple profiles in parallel, but this hardly makes it worth the price tag. When leaving the game you can return to whatever level you played to, and can if you wish return to any level that has been previously unlocked. My trigger finger was starting to throb after playing this game, much like yesterdays space shooter, but moreso. I'd say this game is great for short breaks in beween playing something more interesting, but for a longer period would get boring very quickly.

I think the developer could improve this game by including more sound effects because I found the same sounds being repeated over and over; which, when I had lots of cats to slap became annoying very quickly. I personally enjoy sound with my games as it adds a little to the atmosphere, so turning these off, really isn't an ideal solution, but I could see myself turning the sound right down via the options menu if I had to. I also found the music was really fuzzy and distorted as well. I don't think it was my speaker system that I only installed recently and was an expensive set up; costing me as much as my recently purchased DX10 ready graphics card. It has worked fine with all my other games and if there was something wrong, the sound effects wouldn't be as crisp and clear as they are. Is anyone else having this problem?

Also new environments need to be introduced to break up the monotony of the same environment every level through to the last one. Maybe even rotate the places the power ups were hidden during each level instead of every level. Having to guess which tree or building to hit to find the next power up would be more interesting IMO. Also rotate the power ups during each level instead of getting the same one over and over (although there were instances where I did get more than one type in a given level, but this was rare.

From a childs point of view I think this game is just about worth 7 out of 10, but only just. For an adult, despite the cute graphic, I wouldn't give this more than 5 out of 10. Thank you for your continued sponsorship of this fantastic project Alawar; and to the Game Giveaway team, Rock On!

Have a great week folks

Game has the same concept as Feelers from a few days ago. You have to keep the cats from stealing Snowy's fish. Not quite as fun as Feelers as it takes a few seconds to build up enough "slap" to knock the cats out. Game action is slow, you find yourself sitting and waiting for the next cat to appear. I installed, played for about 5 minutes then uninstalled. Feelers is a much better game.
