Thank you GOTD and MYPLAYCITY. This looks to be a great mind-bender puzzle. I quite enjoy these types of games.
With it though, I do hope that this game marks the end of STEAM "era" on this site.
Just looking at the Solar Division "conware" game, there were 2590 entries and of this only 100 will get a license and from the comments of last week, not all of the STEAM licenses actually "work". Do the maths, 2590 entries less 100 licenses means 2490 will walk away with nothing and yet they have provided STEAM with referrals and advertising for SEVEN DAYS on a number of social platforms. If there was ever a rip-off, this must surely take the cake. STEAM gets a big middle finger from me!!!!!

Installed without a hitch. Then I ran it and found a deal-breaker-sized hitch: Everything needs to be done using the mouse pointer, but this pointer is invisible on my system. Keyboard doesn't seem to do anything in the game, although alt-tab will bring me to another window. Clicking blindly in random spots did get the screen to change a couple of times, but I can't play a game like that. ESC, ctrl-X, ctrl-Z, ENTER all did nothing.
If there is a way to turn on the mouse pointer, I'd love to know how.

I have this game on my iPhone and it's one of my favorites. Very happy to see it's available for PC, I would enjoy it more on a larger screen. The graphics are simple but atmospheric, they do the job, seem very realistic. Sounds and animations are very good. I like that it's fairly quick to try a level over again, and again, and again -- some of them need a bit of thinking and a lot of luck to get exactly the right angle and force.

I earlier commented that, although I would have liked to have tried this game, I found all the advertising a bit too much and so uninstalled the game. Whiterabbit (the moderator) replied, explaining why there's so much advertising and giving tips on how to avoid it, and Horst and Mardel replied, stating that the advertising is necessary and not so bad and giving tips on how to avoid the advertising. I think MPC overdoes the advertising and might be a more popular site if they added less advertising junk to the games they give away. Adding junk to the browsers of users will cause many to uninstall games and not come back to the site of the game supplier. Other download companies seem to do fine by placing an icon on the user's desktop. Advertising and a link on the game's start page would be OK. The unwanted openings of browser windows so that site owners can get paid for exposing advertising should be outlawed. Browser openings serve no useful purpose because users just close the browser without bothering to look at the page. Every such browser opening wastes Internet resources and electrical energy. Unwanted browser openings kill polar bears, and the fraction of a penny that a web site is paid just isn't a good enough excuse. Many of those who have commented here today have said they're annoyed by all the advertising and do what they can to avoid it. MPC should find less intrusive and annoying ways to advertise.

I dislike having to close the MyPlaycity website after install and after every time I close the game. Also, the unnecessary long "loading" while an ad for another game show is obnoxious. Game seems ok otherwise.

Win10 64bit Home. What a change from the normal games displayed. I've never come across this game before and I think I like it. Bit of a brain workout this one and I will keep it. MPC is on of my free game sites I often check out and have worked out how to avoid the 'extras' and the game downloaded fine.
I use Bitdefender and Malwarebytes for my virus control here. Previous AVG and AVAST user but since Win10 everything went haywire.

Wonderful game! As with anything from Alawar its a very nice looking game graphics-wise. Its a very enjoyable game to play at least as far as the first dozen or so levels are concerned. I can see no reason the next dozen or so levels won't be just as fun either.
As far as the gripes about MPC's shortcuts/ads, yep they're there alright but no problem at all to get rid of. It will open a page (ad) while the game is loading and will take you to MPC when you finish too, but as stated, much of MPC's annoyances are missing which is a cause for celebration. Besides, if you have games from any number of different sites, you'll be familiar with the page visits by now. All together a fairly small price to pay for such an excellent game, imho of course.
Suggestions for the developer ? Nope, the game is excellent as is and could only be made better by adding more levels/gametime. Hey! There you go, a suggestion for you, a "collectors edition" with more levels.

I wasn't interested at first reading the description where it is descibed as an arcade game, upon finding out that it's a physics-based puzzler, I looked over the review and am now quite interested. Nice change from the usual. Thanks.

Very unusual and interesting game! Installs perfectly when I temporarily disable AVG for 5 minutes. The extra links placed on the desktop are just shortcuts and can easily be deleted,. This type of game is new to me, and I appreciate the opportunity to try it. Thanks to GGOTD for offering it and to WhiteRabbit for your usual thorough and helpful review. :)

Nice little physics game with a billiards feel. You have to figure out angles and strength of your shot to achieve your goal while avoiding obstacles. Not to difficult but it does have it's challenges. I have reached 50 levels in a short time so I predict I will finish this game soon. Levels are not timed so you are in no hurry. You could use this game for short diversions from your daily routine if you wished. Just play a level or two at a time.
Nice graphics and easy to play. It's a keeper for me. :)

To bypass the initial pop up (which is only there to advertise) launch the game with the game.exe found in the install folder ( C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\Slingshot Puzzle ). The browser opening at the end can not be avoided
nice game with some interesting puzzles, thanks GGGOTD and MPC :)

Mavadelo, seeing as we download from this site and not MPC do we need their domain to resolve to a real IP number? If we don't then why not stick the domain they use for the popup into our hosts file and point it to 127.0.0.1 so the popup does not load their adverts page on games they've already been paid for by game.giveawayoftheday.com advertising revenue?

Mavadelo, Yeah I noticed the comment after I posted mine. Couldn't find it back on the forums but I do not really mind. Closing a browser takes me less than a second. The pop up at the beginning however does not have any purpose though, it only makes loading of the game taking longer while it does not actually load anything. I can understand the need for companies like MPC to advertise in some way so they can open my browser after the game if they like :)

I HATE this new concept of getting code emailed or demanding facebook. I am done with this site

Susan, I quite agree but the entire *.givawayoftheday.com business model is advert funded and the more visitors they can pull to their sites the greater their revenue stream to survive with and potentially buy in better software or games. But from the reduction in frequency of genuine game giveaways of the day and the rise in competitions instead of giveaways suggests the changes have resulted in an overall reduction in traffic and reduction in thrir buying power.

Appears to be developed or coded using Unity [write code once, port to multiple platforms], which in the past seems to have not worked well for some folks [depending on hardware]. And if it's done using Unity you'd expect an Android version...

I downloaded this because I like these physics based games. Unlike the Weemplay games that have been given away here before, I really like the look of this game and the play itself doesn't feel like a clunky port from mobile app to PC.
It's a polished game with good graphics and game play. The review pretty much says it all about what is in the game. The nice thing about these types of games is that just about anyone can play them and enjoy the challenges. You aren't required to get all the blue balls, just one, and in later stages the difficulty increases with the more blue balls you need to "collect", but so far all stages have one ball that is fairly easy to get and allows the player to advance.
I didn't run into any game play bugs but I did run into one settings bug. When I first started the game, I didn't look very closely at the beginning animation describing how to play (my bad). I thought like all clunky ports there would be buttons to hit. Not seeing anything on screen and getting no reaction from the keyboard I looked for a help screen. I could get the setting menu to open, but the options to put the game into windowed mode and to mute it wouldn't work. It was only after I had backed out of the game and into the main screen that these buttons would activate. The other problem I have is that I needed to decipher what the icons meant. The windowed mode icon was 4 arrows pointing towards each other. It makes sense now that I've done it, but I couldn't think what that button would do, especially since it was mostly covered by a large slashed circle (indicating "off"). The exit icon was an open door. OK, but am I exited to the main screen, to the game, etc.? Again, not a deal breaker and certainly easy enough to figure out, but I really don't like that feeling that I have to read someone's mind.
As with all of these games now, the tutorials are at the beginning of a level. If you want to know what a certain thing does in the game, you have to go to the level where it is first introduced and watch the (very) brief explanation at the beginning. If you forget which level it is on, you're out of luck.
The only suggestions to the developer I would make are the following:
1) allow the user to switch between windowed mode and mute/unmute on the game play screen.
2) inform users that they can't use these buttons on the game play screen (if that was the intention).
3) remove these buttons when you can't activate them.
4) provide a little more detailed help, especially on how some of these items works so someone can refresh their memory. While this is a casual game, this version is on PC. People probably won't be playing this as often as someone who has it installed on their mobile device. They may need help refreshing their memory should it get put aside for a length of time. It doesn't have to be in-game. It could simply be on your site with a link.

Awww, thanks! That was a very nice compliment!
I understand your frustration. Getting people involved in anything can be very difficult. In defense of the community, I think there are a few issues that prevent/discourage people from commenting in general. I think a lot has to do with the one-day shot feel of the comment section. It just doesn't feel like a place to visit every day the way people interact with Facebook or Twitter every day. The action happens on one day for each game. While there are a few straggling comments the day after, most of the commenting happens on the give-away day. I know there have been many times that I only had time to download the game (or other software) and I didn't get a chance to play it for a week or so and then it takes more time to finish. After all that time, it seemed like a waste of time to navigate to the site to comment on something so "old". The comments always seem hidden after a giveaway day. You have to navigate to the page, then click "more comments" to get to the main page to see the entire comment section. The site itself seems to tell you not to bother after the giveaway day. It would be really nice if it felt like I could comment on a game well after the giveaway and feel like it wasn't a waste of time. Sometimes I have thoughts about a game after I've finished it that a developer may find user (bugs, dissatisfaction with an ending, etc).
Another issue is that oftentimes a few good reviews will cover most of what people want to say. Oftentimes someone says exactly what I think. For some (maybe many) they may decide not to enter a comment themselves because they have other things that are more pressing and someone has already said it.
With all that said I think the biggest issue is lack of participation with the developer. I feel that almost every single comment about a game that I make is wasted text with the exception of the pleasure I get in expressing myself in writing and any benefit another user may receive from reading it. I have never seen any evidence that the majority of the developers have bothered to read any comment on here. I often think (and I've said this before) that many of these giveaways aren't for improved development but instead are for brand recognition & product placement for newer games. That isn't necessarily bad, but it isn't conducive to active community participation. It really is a waste of time to comment on something that is old and out-dated and to which the developer has long moved on to better projects. I try to anyway as doing my part to keep the site going, but it really feels wasted.
I have noticed that when there is active participation with a developer (heck, it could be someone PRETENDING to be a developer), there is much more participation with the community and the sense that what people are saying is being heard by someone. I notice far fewer "this sucks" comments on those days and more people trying a game to give feedback. People are REALLY pleased when there is someone on the other side listening to their comments which tells me that this is something people really want and is sorely lacking on this site.
I really think to get to the point that you envision BOTH things have to happen. There has to be more developer participation on the giveaway day, that will attract more user comments, which will attract more developers, etc. Or at the very least, developers that are interested in this kind of Beta testing type forum need to understand that many times there won't be too many helpful comments when there is no developer participation but that it doesn't mean the resource isn't available for them here and won't quickly rally to give valuable feedback.
It seems we're in a catch-22 and the only thing I can think of to do is to keep trying to give feedback even if I feel no one but we few are listening to each other.

Downloaded, installed, and runs fine on my Win7/64 laptop. This is a fun game, with plenty of challenge in store. I've played just the first 7 or 8 fields and it's already getting complicated. (Well, for me - I never was much good at billiards....)
During installation I checked the box for a desktop icon and got 4. Three are shortcuts to MPC sites and, as Whiterabbit mentioned, can be safely deleted. That and the way the game opens the MPC site every time it's closed are mildly annoying features, but harmless, so no big deal.
Thanks MPC and GGOTD for another good freebie.

Good job on this one. What a clever (and tough) game. It reminds me of one of those old handheld/wooden pin ball games with a twist. (who remembers those?) The graphics are VERY nice and the music fits. It downloaded, unpacked and installed on my windows 10 machine with no problems but as the others have stated there's some MyPlayCity stuff left. GGOTD stripped out as much of the adds as they could and I'm satisfied with the results. I think it's going to be difficult to get games for free that aren't from sites like that. But back to the game now, pushing around the ball launcher seems a bit stiff/jumpy to me I wonder if that's just my problem, if that's a glitch, or something simply fixable. Other then that this game rocks :) Thank you for the free game.

First of all, thank you for a new game that you don't have to "hope" to get! I understand the key aspect - I guess - but it's still nice to have a free game that you can just get with no strings attached! GOTD game team is fighting many variables at this point and I appreciate that you were able to get this one.
Slingshot Puzzle downloaded and installed with no problems on my computer running Windows 10 64. I just put all the extra links that appeared on my desktop after installing into the garbage. One thing I found interesting.... Even though I've never had this game previously, it knew my name the first time I played - didn't have to enter it myself. I have quite a few Alawar games on my computer and have also gone to the Play City site directly, so not sure which one is responsible.
The graphics are pleasing and non-cluttered. The music is simple, easily tuned out mentally if you wish (or go to options and turn it way down). I didn't find it particularly annoying - just repetitive.
Game play is easy to figure out and the play itself is actually quite simple as far as the concept of what you have to do. Of course, I've only played the first 3 levels of Novice and I'm not naive enough to think it's not going to get much more difficult. One thing that throws me out of sync is the fact that even though I bring the spring all the way back to shoot the ball, it doesn't usually go as fast as I think it should when released. This can result in the ball not quite making it to the hole.
Even though it appears to be a simple game, you need to use your brain to figure out the angles the ball will take when hitting certain spots in order to do what you need it to do. Reminds me of pool, only played on a computer instead of a table. As I said, I'm sure that it will get much more challenging as I go through the sub-levels within the different levels, and there are many available.
At this point, other than the spring release tension, I can't think of anything that I would change. This game is a keeper for me.

Thanks WhiteRabbit!! That probably is correct... haven't gone into my registry account to find out. I'm not particularly worried about it. I saw that yesterday's game was a win a license game, but not one that I was interested in. I've gotten games through licenses a couple of times. I actually think I've managed to get a license both times I've tried! I figure that maybe they handed out more than they originally said they would in both cases since I was notified a few days after the days they were posted.
Thanks for all you do here. I for one really appreciate the time you take to be the top-notch moderator you are!

FIRST AND FOREMOST, IMPORTANT REMINDER
If you have the new version of AVG Antivirus, you must temporarily disable it to install the game, if you don't, it won't install, and gives you no indication as to why.
I love these kind of games! This one is probably the best of the ones I have played. I really like having something to challenge my mind and spatial comprehension. It takes some getting used to the different helping and restricting items on the game field, but that makes it interesting. Overall I recommend this game.
I didn't really appreciate the 4 extra desktop icons, but they are simply deleted with no ill effects.
The window popping up when you exit is a small annoyance, but acceptable in exchange for a free game.
Thanks GGOTD and MPC.

I truly like this game so far. I still absolutely hate that the game opens a browser window to MyPlayCity on it's own and as such will probably clean it off shortly. I would appreciate seeing tool tips when I hover over the buttons. While they may seem self descriptive enough I wasn't sure what some of them did until I clicked on them (full screen for instance) It truly is a nice confirmation to have. Otherwise good game play just sad that it has to be pushy and open links to a site I wasn't intending to navigate to.

Lynx Ravenwing, quite right Lynx MPC have no business launching adverts on games they have already been paid for by GGAOTD according to the "For Developers" page in the links at the end of the page.
MPC is trying to double their revenue streams at our resources expense. Stick their adverts servers domain into your systems hosts file and block future access.

I watched one of the spoiler videos of this game, and thought I'd like to play Slingshot Puzzle. Then I found that this game opens browser windows during installation and every time the game is started or closed, which is such a nuisance that I've just used Revo Uninstaller to be sure I was completely rid of Slingshot Puzzle. The windows can be closed of course, but, still, they were more of an annoyance than I really wanted to put up with. My security software can be set to prevent the game from calling home, but I don't think I want to have to protect my system from a game. Why does MPC do this? They can't sell much by annoying the users.
Save | Cancel
Walter Snodgrass, I also just used Revo uninstaller to get rid of this game; I couldn't believe the shortcut to games, plus when attempting to play it, naturally more game offers pop up. I deleted the shortcuts; and also took them out of the folder where they were located and now naturally, the game itself doesn't load; thus, I just deleted everything. Don't care for MPC; never have never will.

Walter Snodgrass, When you take control of my computer, for the purpose of making money, then you violate the trust I put in you as a developer. I gladly pay for games, and I come to GGOTD to look for new and interesting games to try out, then I BUY the games.
I'm now sorry I downloaded the game. You oculd offer a game with fewer levels, or a cut back interface, but my understanding is that you use GGOTD to vet games and get feedback.
I think the game itself, and the browser window openings, violate the trust we put in you, and your EULA is a damned joke and a way to infiltrate this concept to mine it for dollars.
Shame on you.

Hi, I can understand You WR speaking and defending GGOTD Site in recent 'turbulent times', but now You also appear to 'rush' to explain and defend other Free Games Venues such as MPC for 'all that comes' with their downloads, and (further) how such Sites make their free offerings and existence possible, I quote what's above: 'One of our regular community members has posted a fix over in the game discussion forums that stops the browser opening, but this would be considered a breach of the EULA that you agree to when you install such games. If everyone started to use such fixes, MPC and the other free game sites...would soon go out of business'..
I find it rather contrary and sad that You, main (and only) Moderator here should feel His place to remind everyone here about this, whilst not that long ago pointing out that GGOTD stood proud and deserved to be praised as more SUPERIOR Site to them - always offering truly clean, truly safe, truly straight forward, truly free and without any such 'trappings' Venue for downloading Games!??.. And, what's more - each Game could be simply deleted (didn't need uninstalling), as it only occupied a Folder..
My question (and perhaps attempted answer) here would be: so how did the past GGOTD 'Donators' like Alawar, Big Fish Games, Playrix and many others 'afford' giving their Games for free here from their native Game sites ('no strings attached'!)?? Well, as we all understood - by gaining feedbacks, recommendations, promotion, wider recognition, future sales, and naturally 'seal of approval' by GGOTD users and Community Members, not to mention often unique Reviews of their Games. If the general notion is to maintain that UNIQUENESS of this Site - inviting people to stay faithful to GGOTD has to be done without finger wagging?.. Did we in the past also 'breach Games EULAs' and had to feel guilty over using GGOTD, as people might now feel for using MPC-via-GOTD in somewhat convenient, but still partially 'fixed' way? As it happens - Today's Game looks a lot of fun (not for me, but for my husband) and I consider recommending it in that very (if old-fashion now) GGOTD way, by saying - Go for it, good Game!! The rest of it - remains my, and mine only business. Wishing All pleasant afternoon. Thanks.

Walter Snodgrass, "They can't sell much by annoying the users." They sell no games. All games are free but with the restrictions you don´t like. I have no problems with them and have many games from this site. Only by installing and than by every start of the game you must be careful and click away the changes of the browser-settings (or you turn off your internet-connection before running the game). You get used to it...

Horst, I find the intrusive advertising so unpleasant that I'd rather just pay a few bucks for games and not be bothered with having to disconnect before playing a game. Games like Slingshot Puzzle - in that they would run on machines without special hardware - used to be sold on disk; they were displayed in shops like CDs. I wish I could still buy those disks. I'll just have to do without the games.

Mardel, Thanks for your response. There's just too much advertising on the Internet. I wish advertising that serves no useful purpose could be gotten rid of.

fran, quite right all the excuses for MPC enforced advertising on GGAOTD offereings are based upon their businees activities distributing games for free from THEIR site and do not apply to games distributed by GGAOTD site as this site claims the games are given away for free that we would otherwise have to pay for, implying that GGAOTD are paying MPC for the distributed game licensing and not getting the games for free from MPC, as described in the "For Developers" link in the page footer.
Anything else would be fraud. So MPC have no excuse for leeching further advertising revenue off purchassed games regardless of whether GGAOTD prurchassed them for us from their ad-revenue or we purchassed them direct.

Hi Stephen, my sincere thanks for replying to this Comment of mine and so generously sparing Your valuable time on matters I mentioned.. We had been rather busy over this weekend pruning our two gigantic cherry laurel trees (Prunus laurocerasus) in the garden, and what's more treating them with more than ever before 'suspicious minds', lol, after learning how toxic they can be!:) Oh dear, is that why even ivy will not climb on them, and explanation why nothing else 'wants' to grow on the ground beneath? Never mind the shadow and lack of grass below.. well now, apparently the drips of water (when watering with hose in really hot, dry season), or rain can produce 'toxic droplets' that kill everything underneath and around them!!.. Looks like bad news for our beloved 'magnolia trees' then, as we commonly referred to them all these years and decorating with their twigs numerous bouquets of flowers and plants in vases at home because they were adding that ever green, glossy beautiful look?? I've been reading some really scary stories people fainting (or worse!) when in contact with it's plumage, smelling 'almonds' (err, cyanide..) a.s.o, and yet - it's so widely used as perfect common hedges.. Naah, I'm not buying all this:) and think we have to take it with proverbial pinch of salt (extracts of Prunus Laurocerasus after all are also useful in medicine, like so many other plants!)
Sorry, now to matters in main subject. I really see it all from a different angle and with more logic and clarity (ironically enough - so do many other 'Gamers' who regularly play logical puzzles and even.. Detective Games!:) You talked (a lot!!) about growing negativity of community members here, about past and present statistics (downloading Games, comments, feedbacks - or lack of them!?) and wrestling with often contradictory notions where is ALL THAT coming from!
It's simple and truly beyond community, or Yours control. I honestly don't believe 'this side' of GGOTD is responsible for this sorry state. Yes, we could argue what came first - chicken or egg, and why certain things (changes) were necessary, but nothing will alter TIMING of matters going that bad.., that is - that crucial 'pin-point' WHEN it started to deteriorate on such scale!?..
This morning I was reading with interest some comments You made yesterday and found these lines, where You seem to observe that same 'starter point', as I see it, but with the rest of it our logic go separate ways, forgive me. I quote what You said: 'since the site changed to the new look, most of the comments have been rather negative and i think it's scared away those developers we have been getting games from for the past several years'.., and this one: 'Unfortunately the increasingly hostile community is in my opinion driving away developers who may have given us games previously'..??
The best (and not forced on, or bullied out off!) INCENTIVE for members here leaving 'happy, useful and plentiful' comments is..being in an interesting place, a Site of FUN (not proverbial pain and misery..??) Such place is NO MORE. When happy, appreciative and playful - people behave accordingly? I for one don't believe many of us were coming in such numbers here because we were 'desperate' for free Games (like You, some of us contributed to 'the Industry' small fortunes in purchasing Games, or in form of paid memberships, in our case these funds later on were turned into Charities instead, or more needy) So that was never the only factor and incentive to visit GGOTD in the past and willingly play part. It was pleasure combined with commitment, but mostly Fun!! Get that happy Place again - and the tide will turn!..
Lastly, don't beat yourself too much WR over something that is neither Yours, or community's doing! Sincere good luck, and please stop stressing!:) Ps. If I may add something else: what also might further discourage folks in present situation from posting comments is this ridiculous method of 'comment-ghosting' in favor of what was much more polite and fair before. Please bring back 'your comment is awaiting moderation' so people know where they stand and don't feel in limbo being shielded from general view for hours on end. Not clever, but v. obvious!..

Nidda, Why the hell is GGOTD allowing a company that is clearly a spammer/hijacker/scammer offering games that 'only open a browser window instead of what we NORMALLY do which is hijack your computer, add stuff you don't want, and generally screw your life up trying to remove the garbage we install without your permission' on the site. This is the last straw. GGOTD and GOTD, have a good life. I'm done.

Nidda,
Fortunately, it just goes to MPC site, which has nothing but free games. Now, he might download something and you could get a browser hijack, but you can still revert those with a few clicks. It isn't convenient, but he also won't be causing too much trouble if he does it.

Nidda, when he click on the advert it will open the browser with an online-game. Mostly you must have an account to play it. So relatively harmless - this can happen just by clicking on every advert on every internet-site.
