Depending on who your provider is and how far away from their servers you are, this game may take some time to download. I initially downloaded the MPC version last night so that I could take some screen captures and get a flavour of the game. I started a download for this game via the giveaway site over an hour ago and it is still downloading. It says there is 365MB left to download from 752MB; with just over an hour left to download. I'm sure some community members are using download managers to download this game. Although I don't blame you, it does impact on the download speeds of those not using such programs, for example if you are downloading it in say 16 parts, that is seen as sixteen community members at the server end, thus slowing the download speed significantly for those not using a download managed. That said, I appreciate those living out in the sticks may need to use one simply to protect their download from corruption. An online buddy of mine used to live out on a farm many miles from any provider and was forced to use a telephone line to access the internet. The line was constantly causing issues when downloading large file sizes and he would often have to repeat the downloads several times before getting the download (if at all). I used to send him programs and games copied to DVD's to save the bother as it was actually quicker to do that.

The game has loads of Hidden Object scenes interspersed with cut scenes . The HOG scenes are rechargeable, giving the game some replayability, though I found the scenes and mini games very easy to solve. Each stage is scored, which gives you another incentive to replay levels to beat your score. There are more than 50 anecdotes about paranormal phenomena scattered throughout the game. The game takes you around the worlds to various mysterious and often enigmatic sites such a Stonehenge.
If you like simple and easy to solve HOG's this is one to download. Personally I found the game too easy, and the regular cut scenes broke up the game play too much, but, it was still an okay game.
You can see some in game videos (spoilers) HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE. The game is also available on Steam as a 12 game HOG bundle for only £4.79. That's £0.40 per game.

Useful Information not related to today's game giveaway
Don't forget to check out the Epic Game store for the latest freebies HERE. This week it's Grand Theft Auto V.
Also check out Reddit's Free Games on Steam (These may fluctuate over the week, so it's worth checking daily because there have been quite a few developers offering their commercial games for free during the lock-down - if you see a game, just open your Steam client and search for the game in the store; if it's still available free you'll see that they are 100% off, the site is updated frequently, so if a game is no longer available it's usually tagged with an 'Over' icon. Hurry though because these free games don't stay free long. Once added to your account they become permanently attached).
You can also get loads of free DRM free games from Indie Gala and HERE. They have recently added a few more games that look worthwhile, including Construct, doodle Devil, lovely Planet, Dreamscapes: The Sandman - Premium Edition, Waste Walkers Subsistence plus loads more.
Conan Exiles is free to Play this weekend until later afternoon (UK time) Monday 18th HERE. If you like open world Sword and Sorcery fantasy games and loved Robert E. Howards Conan character (that has been expanded on by many notable Sci Fantasy authors such as Poul Anderson, L. Sprague de Camp, and many others), you'll love this game. It was a limited giveaway a couple of years ago around the time it was released and has had several major DLC's released since then. Whiterabbit-uk, I took your suggestion and got Dreamscapes: The Sandman - Premium Edition from IndieGala. Thank you so much! I thoroughly enjoyed playing it. It installed and worked flawlessly, with excellent graphics. I played it straight through to the end, even the bonus content. That is my first visit to IndieGala, I'll definitely keep the link.

Buster and Whiterabbit-uk,

I also went to the IndieGala website. I had to install a addon in Firefox (something to do with X Frame: addons. mozilla. org/ nl/ firefox/ addon /ignore-x-frame-options-header/ and that worked fine (placed some extra spaces in, because I wasn't sure a link would be accepted in a comment).

Scenes include a ridiculously fast timer and no way to deactivate it in the options menu. Much worse is how this timer extends beyond the hidden object scenes to the puzzles as well.

I can tolerate a timer sometimes but not one this fast and timers really have no place in a hidden object style game.

Developers should always try to include a "relaxed mode" as well.

If anyone needs to download and run the correct version of Direct X to get the game running, I used Microsoft's Direct X installer which downloads and installs software automatically. Here's the link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

Using EagleGet, downloaded in 6 minutes. Runs O.K. on W7. Color is not the very best & can't control the sound well. Does not seem to time me so far.

It's a very different sort of hidden object game. Some things I really like such as having the main character visible through most of the game, but scoring the result of puzzle quests and hidden object hunts is a bit annoying. The artwork is great, and the storyline is memorable and I felt as if on an import mission. lol I also liked the absence of paranormal ghostly figures and the game having more of an intellectual feel.
Thanks Whiterabbit!

The past many months now, I have been unable to download any of the games, without getting the OOPS 404 error message.

I have done dozens of searches for a solution with no luck.
I am running HP laptop, Windows 7, 64 bit. Does anyone have a fix or should I just give up completely?

My download went smoothly..but it took maybe an hour and a half? I didn't time it but it went smoothly. It installed just fine on Windows 7. It's timed. Nope, not for me. Plus, I didn't understand what to click on when I was finished with 1 part. You should close that window and click on the map underneath. I thought the only thing I could click on was the screen on top of the map, so I ended up having to do the first part again. And once I could tell that it was making me do the first part again, I tried to get out of it, but at that point, I think the only option was to redo that part.

But, anyhow..timed stuff is not for me. Plus, the art just isn't up to par for what I like. I'm going to uninstall it.

ian, why are you getting downvotes? It did exactly the same thing with me. So I was going to download d3dx9_39.dll and put it in the same folder so it could find it. However there are a lot more reviews now and they are saying it is timed. I am sorry but there is enough stress in my life already. So, full respect to the developers, but this is not for me sadly.

Mixed results Windows 10 X64 Pro. DL fine, install slow but ok. First run took bit, then game page began with just upper 1/3 of wide screen as the actual game. Tried options on/off, no chg. Played a bit but knew that's no gonna cut dat. Closed it. Reran & much better, just black frames both sides of game about 10% a side, still ample play field now & centered ok. Haven't tried that DX v9 installation. Believe have a ver anyway. No error messages & game play looks fun. I suspect the RTX vid card blows it out on initial try, not the DX part. Anyway could try as XP or Win 8 but so far worth a shot for fans. 8/10 from first fast.

The game installed fine (W10, 64), but I also had to install DirectX. Before installing I unchecked: install Bing Bar. After completion I got a notification that Bing Bar couldn't be installed on Windows. Good! :-)
Now I can play the HOG, so thank you for the game and the solution!
Have a great weekend! :-)

Installed just fine on Windows 10. I discovered that it's a timed game. I have no interest in raising my stress level so I uninstalled.

1. The game could not be launched under Win XP, but this system is declared as supported. Setup file does work, but the game does not.
2. Under Win 7 I've got the d3dx9_39.dll missing error. It's okay, just update the DirectX.
3. After fixing all these problems, the game starts. I did not find anything interesting in it. I played a little, and I'm just tired of it. Undoubtedly, not the best game in this genre.

Vladimir,

Hi Vladimir, the reviews for the 12 in 1 pack on Steam that includes this game also say 'generally' that the games are sub par. For £0.40 per game I wouldn't expect anything spectacular. If you want a really good HOG for free, check out the HOG called Dreamscapes: The Sandman - Premium Edition, that's being given away for free via Indie Gala

https://freebies.indiegala.com/dreamscapes-the-sandman-premium-edition/

The Dreamscape franchise is one of my favorite (older) HOG's.

Therese Shellabarger,

Hi Therese,
It seems that the giveaway server won#t allow the link to work, so I've got rid of the code and you should be able to access the page directly. You do require a Indie Gala free account. Once it's been added to your library the button changes to a button that takes you to your Indie Gala libbrary. From there you have to select from the list along the top the Showcase Tab. Thius will then take you to aall the games you've added to the library from the showcase and freebies section. redirection to your Indie Gala Library. You then have to select the Showcase tab locaated along the top of the page (it's in a black toolbar along with tabs for the store, bundles community etc. Once your in the showcase page you should see a list of all the games you've added to your IG library. click on the one you want to download and then look to the right paanel and clock on the button with a windows icon. The game should then be downloadable. It's a DRM free version so can be installed any time on any computer.

I've purchased bundles and games from the Indie Gala store since it's beginning ten years ago; and apart from some issues with bundles I received during their happy hour sessions (where you payed for one bundle and received up to five copies of the bundle to give to friends) the site is a safe and genuine site where you can be guaranteed that any game you get from them will be safe to install.

They have recently revamped the site and I had issues accessing some of the unopened bundles I#ve purchased in the past, but they have all been added to my account now. It may be that they are still updating accounts?

The difference in speeds doesn't make sense unless it's the distance I am from the giveaway servers?

beergas,

:) it was my son who messed it up. I told him not to bother updating the bios as it was working perfectly., somehow the Windows installation had become corrupted (boot record) and he'd failed to make a note of his windows activation code (he was still using the version that was given away for free a couple of years ago). Anyway, he'd contacted a friend who suggested while he was fixing things he might as well make sure he had the latest version of BIOS. End of MoBo. I've stripped the old board, cleaned the cpu and heat sink then reassembled everything. Now we have a problem not being able to get the monitor working. I suspect the new MoBo is faulty, but haven't had time to do any tests). I bought a test kit years ago after buying a faulty MoBo, so will find out whether it needs to be replaced again. In the mean time he's using his sisters desktop as I bought her a gaming laptop when she started Uni last September and she stopped using her desktop.

Seems I am one of the lucky ones.

DL was fast with only 3 -5 minutes, installation under Win10 without a problem, same with activation. I love it when a game is available in German and it directly installed in German. The translation is funny and clearly made from someone who didn't speak German well :-D

I only played some minutes but everything went smooth so far and I am looking forward to play the game.

Thanks to everyone involved, especially White Rabbit of course.

Flaky download (did the email thing and got THREE emails) and once it downloaded and was unzipped (yes, AV turned off---I'm not new to this!) it hung for a while on the first screen and then did the "successfully activated" thing without actually installing. The same thing newbs get when they don't turn off the AV, but the AV is completely turned off.

Sieska ,

The error message is telling you that Direct X v9 isn't available. You can download Direct X v9.0 from Microsoft. DX9.0 is packaged with Win 10, but sometimes with older games you may need to re-download it. If installing DX9.0 doesn't fix the issue, have the installation install directly into the games installed folder.

You can download the program HERE
or HERE.

Sieska , Glad to hear. :)

It's a common issue with older games that were from the Direct X 9.0c era or later, games that were designed with DX9.0 in mind despite Direct X being improved significantly over the years since.

Whiterabbit-uk, Thank you for this info. I was having the same problem. I'm running Windows 10 on a computer that used to have Windows 7. I found that when I downloaded Direct X 9 from Windows and ran the install, I was told that I couldn't run it because I didn't have the "proper" Windows installed on my computer. I ended up downloading the Direct X End-User Runtime Web Installer, used that and now the game is working fine. I'm mentioning that in case others are having trouble with trying to install just the Direct X 9......
