I rarely give a thumbs up or down to any game, but after pleying this, nearly all the way through, I have to give it a thumbs down. When one first starts the game they are asked whether they want to play a relaxed game or timed arcade type game. I pick relaxed because I play these games to relax. I'm beyond the age of being able to play action games. So I get all the way to the end and I have to get rid of 80 snow flakes. Closest I came is having 30 left. I'm never gonna finish this game. What happened to my relaxed choice?

The game is fairly enjoyable up to the point of the snow flake blitz, but this one thing ruined it for me.

Sorry! Thumbs down!

Thank you for your feedback Jon, sorry you didn't enjoy the game to the end.

The whole reason I play quieter games like match-three or hidden objects is because I don't like action type games. We called them "twitch games" back in the day for a reason -- it's all about how fast you can zap your mouse or whatever around, frantically twitching and clicking. Those kinds of games have a whole genre of their own, and people who like action games will seek out and play action games. People who don't like action games seek out and play other kinds, like match-three or hidden object games.

Presenting me with a match-three type game that has hidden-object screens is fine. Ambushing me -- and that's what it feels like -- with arcade screens once I've gotten deep into the game is not fine. It took me three frustrating tries to get past the bee-collecting-honeycombs screen, and I wasn't having fun while I did it. I just quit out of the catch-the-snowflakes screen. I'm done with this game.

I'm actually enjoying this one! The match 3 is a bit different for me; instead of swap, you just click (or if using a pen like I am, just tap) and they all blow up, so play is VERY fast. And the hidden objects have just enough challenge to engage me. So while not a real challenge, so far, this one's been fun for a few minutes of chill time while I wait for a more engaging and challenging hidden object or adventure game (my faves).
Thanks, WhiteRabbit-uk, and hope your vacation is going aces!

Hi!
Have a wonderful vacation!

I downloaded to save as normal and there was no exe.
I deleted and tried again with open instead of save. Usually
the games do not have the open option, just save.
It saved and didn't open, but had the exe this time. Clicked on it and works great. The graphics are very clear. The game though, seems to be simple. Usually you have to do more than just click on. thus, its an easy no brainer game, when you just want to relax and play. At least so far, only have done a few levels. I should say I put on the easy mode and will try the other another time.
Thanks for another fun game!!

Windows XP SP3, works fine so far, 3 umm... "characters" into the game.

I don't know if my left mouse button will survive very many more games like this, but so far it's different enough to be worth playing through.

Thanks again for another new game..!

Hi, Yes I use game booster when I have a problem game, which is rare on this new computer. I have it set to turn off avast as well as f.lux among other programs running. Still have the problem. Ended up deleting the game although I still have the first one.

As a suggestion... if developers are going to stick arcade & action click-fest mini-games in a game of a different genre, they should include that type of level in the beginning of the game so gamers know what to expect or provide a SKIP for that type of mini-game. It is unfair to gamers to not be able to finish a game because of this type of game development. I have hit this in several games but the worst was one that did not include it until the very last level making it impossible to complete. Very unfair, especially for those who paid for the games.

Well, I give up. Not sure if this is due to playing the timed mode or not but I got to level 80 and it was all fast-clicking & had to click 80 snowflakes. any missed snowflakes covered a small square of the screen. I barely managed to pass another arcade & action level earlier but replayed successfully. This level there is no way I can win so that's it. For everyone that is great at arcade & action style game play, have fun. For the rest of us, it's questionable. Was a pretty good game up until that. Too bad. I hate to not finish a game but it's just not worth the frustration. I may go back later to see if there is a difference playing RELAXED but I doubt it. Oh, well, it was nice while it lasted!

We have planned a day trip in the morning that means we need to leave before the new game giveaway goes live, so I won't be able to post a review of the game.

Would someone explain in the morning, (when the new game goes live) that I won't be able to moderate until early evening. I'm also unable to download a demo of the game, so can't even prepare a review of the game. :(

Thanks

W.R.

Just installed the game and went to play it. Like in the first one, I'm getting a "fatal error in GC" code then if freezes. Not sure what the problem is.

.........................Moderator comment..........................

See my previous post. This is related to Unity, which this game is built on. Try turning off your security software temporarily. It may be other programs you are running in the background. I sometimes suggest using game booster, which turns off unneeded system files and can be configured to turn off other background programs. Once set up, its a simple on off program. click once to turn on, click once to bring your computer back to normal.

I'm going to try this one. I liked Season Match however, it stopped working for me. It throws a GC fatal error and then freezes and I have no idea what is going on. Because it was free I can't delete and re install, so unless someone can come up with something guess it's going into the recycle bin.

I hope this one works better.

Nice addition to the little sister of Season Match. Adding the little mini games was a good idea. But I hated looking for the 4 leafed clover in all that clover. Took me forever to find the last one.

Thank you URSE Games and GGOTD for the sweet game. Thanks Wabbit and enjoy your vacation.

P.S. Had a migraine..... so not up to much....Later....

Installed it without problems. I am a match three fanatic. I have to say that this game promises good things ahead. I played it for about 15 minutes, and I was impressed. Graphics are very good and I like the music as well as sound effects. Personally, I would recommend it!

Forgot, cannot rate music and/or sounds as I never play any games with the sound enabled. Keep my sound volume off most of the times. Have never found any game that had music that didn't drive me right up a wall.

Okay, some problems with the game, last one fatal cannot recover. Am running Win7 Pro 32/64, everything up to date, also run game booster.

First problem; (minor) when matching butterflies in the first match game you need to double click....doesn't happen they rest of the game as least as far as I could get.

Second Problem; Level 37, Fatal Crash, msg "Get Thread Contex Failed", in task manger states "Fatal Error in GC". Was able to reload and continue.

Third Problem; Level 49, Fatal Crash, msg "Get Thread Contex Failed", in task manager states "fatal Error in GC". Was able to reload and continue.

Fourth Problem; Didn't notice level number, Fatal Crash, same msgs as before. However, this time was not able to load the game. Tried 5 times, got a window instead of full screen, would not load completely, got a touch to continue which didn't work with mouse (figure that msg for Win 8 which I hate and refuse to run.). Here is a screen print of what it looked like if I can figure how to post it.

Okay can't figure out how to post a pix to this msg, won't let me paste it and I see no way to upload. Will try to describe what it looks like.

Large window, can see normal start up background on both sides, with skip button in upper left corner. Large white area in middle in between background. Runs from the top almost to the bottom with a message window near the bottom that has "Gla Gla" in script letters. Under that is a message "Tap to continue...".

Clicking does nothing. Screen is frozen. Before the the center white area completely loads there is what appears to be a spray painted large fat question mark which disappears when the Gla Gla and tap to continue appears.

One more thing, in both games you have an extra slide in the beginning that just is a white background with the large declaration "Splash Screen". Need to ditch that is distracting and is totally unnecessary.

Game one did crash on me last week, but after I reloaded was able to play the rest of the game without any problems whatsoever.

I like Game II better, feel it is an improvement over the first one. Just wish I could play the rest of it.

Hope this information will help the developers fix the problems when running Win 7. Not a bad little game. Like that I can play without pressure. Sometimes I want a game that is stress free and both of the games fit that bill.

I've been away for a few weeks and not been able to access the internet. This is my first game for a month and I've enjoyed it very much. It's not stressful and though I seem to be stuck on level 31, I feel I will get past it. I like the variety it offers and its general 'prettiness'! Good one GGOTD! Enjoy your holiday WhiteRabbit and I hope your weather holds!

Since I like both match 3 & hidden object, this is a nice little combination game for me. Confused on some things in the game, though.

Timer does not seem to make a difference except to give points if you finish before it runs out. I see that it is supposed to skip the hidden object afterward if it does run out but haven't tested that. I did let the timer run out on 1 level but didn't pay attention whether the HOS occurred or not. I guess if you don't like HOS, you could just let the timer run out in ACTION mode?

Anyone know what the purpose of the coins is? I thought I saw that they could be used to buy things but can't find anywhere to use them.

Would be nice when mousing over the achievements if it showed a little better description of what the achievement is. I have the first 2 in row 1, the first in row 2, and the second in row 3 (1st one is not listed so I guess I missed something). Assuming the 3rd row is for finding all the gold coins because I know I missed some in the first level.

Thumbs up from me!

......................................Moderator comment.......................

Hi TopazMystique, thanks for the feedback. The coins can be used to purchase extra time when you play the timed mode or to buy hints when you play the hidden objects. I presume you just click on the timer or the hints buttons to spend the coins. :)

I'm not a huge match 3 fan, no matter what type it is, but, I have to admit that I did enjoy last weeks Season Match, with some reservatoins, and so I might as well give this one a try. I haven't installed it yet, but so I can't confirm that this one will install on XP, but the first one did so I don't see why this one won't.
My reservations: I found certain boards more than a bit cheaty; messing with the normal way gems (or whatever they are) fall - it's not much fun or even challenging when you have to click five to ten minutes just to clear one object; Frustrating is what it is, and takes away from the fun of the game, in my opinion.
My other reservation is that the game kept messing with my USB input devices (one mouse and a keyboard); I kept having to reconnect the USB connections to get those input devices to work again. It's a big pain in the neck, and other places, to have to keep reconnecting input devices. This is not the only game I've played that has done it, but when I find a game that does it I generally uninstall it as it really isn't worth the aggrevation to keep playing it.

But, overall I did enjoy the first "Season Match" and will download this one and see what happens.

......................................Moderator comment.......................

#3: "I enjoyed Season Match so why not try this follow up game?"

FWIW, dadams, my wife agrees wholeheartedly, though she's hesitant to get rid of any games, even the one's she's been less thrilled with -- a year or three goes by, & if she doesn't have anything new at the moment, or is bored, it's like a brand new game all over again.

* * *

#11: "Whoa! I spent ten minutes typing a nice little response to the game and I get tossed when clicking submit comment! Bad, dudes!"

:) Shame on you Swamp Thing -- I'd have thought you'd made it a habit years ago to select all -> copy before hitting submit. :)

[Actually just typing that for any new folks who've not yet discovered the utter joy of having a well thought out comment or response instantly evaporate.]

* * *

#16: "Installed it on Win7 64-bit. After two sessions played, the computer froze. Had to kill the process by task manager. Sorry."

Hmmmm... that's 2 comments saying basically the same thing, yet no complaints on the relatively few reviews at Big Fish. Whiterabbit's suggestion earlier re: Game Booster may help, freeing up resources that this version of the game may not (?).

............................Moderator comment..........................

I rarely throw a game away just in case I feel like playing it at a later date, even those I complete. They get backed up to DVD's/Blu Ray and externals. I've still got many of the game giveaways from the early days, including one of the very first, (apart from those that write registration details to the registry, e.g. Alawar and Playrix games).

I usually format my discs at least yearly to clear all of the junk I tend to accumulate so, inevitably lose some of those games that write to the registry. There are ways to find the reg details (which I'm not allowed to divulge, but i expect some of you already know how to). I tend to buy those games I really like, as a thank you for allowing me to play their games for free. :)

The first one was all match 3 - which I enjoyed. Played the quest version and have the arcade version in progress.

This version 2 is M3, HoG, M3, HoG etc. Only played about 5 games and am not loving the HoG part. I'll continue for a while more but if this is the way it ls, I'll probably set it aside.

Don't know what they would change it.

Ok Windows 8x 64. Full screen, usual options. Ran Timed mode, Relaxed may work dif since doesn't seem to allow intragame mode switch. In Timed it does appear ample time early on to solve main Match 3. The mini puzzles might get tricky since sort of unclear where last few pieces or coins are 'hiding'. Can take some random clicking. Hint part just gives general direction of where those last things are.
All in all nice short term diversion when need a break. 8/10 for fans.

Season Match (the original) is a pleasant enough way to pass a few minutes, but because it is rather repetitive it becomes a bit "samey" if played for long at a time.

Season Match 2 is as well designed as its big brother for looks, but has the advantage of more variety in what you actually have to do. The mini-games break up your playtime and give you a change of focus, which makes this a better game to keep on playing.

Even oldies like me need games to play during a tea break or similar, so these short-span games are always good to keep on your hard drive, even though you won't play them every day. To be honest I prefer short games to long ones; the ones which demand that you keep nose to screen for three weeks at a time tend not to be played beyond the introductory phase - so shorties are better value to me.

I shall keep Season 2, thank you very much - another goodie from GGAOTD! Thanks to Whiterabbit too, and URSE Games, of course.

Hope the holiday is everything you hope for, and that you will return in the best of health and good spirits.

I downloaded the game, no problem, windows 8.1 started playing, loved it bu after a while it just froze. I used task manager to get out, tried again twice and each time after playing about five minutes it freezes, so I will have to uninstall it. A shame as I like the game very much.

.........................Moderator Comment..........................

Hi Pamela, before you uninstall it, try playing it in compatibility mode. (Right click on the games exe or shortcut and select properties, then select the compatibility tab. Make sure it's running with admin rights then fiddle around with the settings to see if it will work properly.

It could also be a program you may be running in the background. A good application to use in those circumstances is Razers Game Booster (just Google it). The booster turn off ll unnecessary system programs running in the background. it's basically a one click fix. To come out of game booster it's just one more click. You can also configure it to turn off non system programs that may be running in the background.

Thank GAOTD team and WR.

This game follows nicely the first version and is not simply a copy of it. The gameplay is good to do, and my children love the graphics and storyline pictures in it.

Indeed not the best match 3 game, but the simplicity just click on set (not select the whole chain) makes it a good playable game also for the smaller players.

Also agree with the fact about the extra clicks after each level, anoying to wait every tie that extra second(s) before you can click.

But for sure a keeper here.

I enjoyed Season Match so why not try this follow up game? Add in the fact that there is no installation process. Instead you merely extract or unzip the game to a folder of your choice. There are no changes made to your computer. When you finish the game or decide you don't like it all you need to go is delete the game folder. A fast and easy way to try a new game. I say this is a winner. Thank you so much GGOTD and URSE Games

There is nothing special about this game. It is just another Match 3 with fluff and glitter. Put this in your collection and it will be forgotten about as there are many other Match 3 games that far surpass this one in quality and re-playability. The mini games are okay to breakup the gameplay, but have become standard in this genre anyway. I have uninstalled this after 15 minutes and won't look back. Thanks for the test drive!

As most of you know, I'm now on vacation so won't be as active as usual. I will still moderate, but only at certain times of the day as I'm off out enjoying myself with my family for most of the day. (Went to Tarragona yesterday, fantastic ancient capital of this region of Spain {just West of Barcelona}).

I decided to post today's game giveaway because there was already a review available via Gamezebo (see reference at the end of the game section). I've just copied and pasted the whole review. The conclusion is also Gamezebo's.

Unfortunately I'm not able to install the game due to limitations with the hotels internet service, so I can't give a personal opinion. :(

Good news for tomorrows game giveaway; we will be getting a popular arcade style game that's never been given away here (also a genre not seen here before)

Important Message to all community members who purchased any Bundle in a Box bundle, please read the message I've posted in the Games, games games section below, thank you.

Season Match 2:

In Brief:

Today’s game giveaway is Season Match 2 a match three game and the second in the season match series.

Season Match 2 1

Installation:

The giveaway downloads to a 63.3MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and dual activation and set up module. To new game giveaway visitors that means just install the game and it should automatically register because the activation module is wrapped with the set up file. The game installs to

C:\Games\SeasonMatch2_game

The game works on Win 7 and Win 8 platforms. I no longer use Vista or XP so can't confirm whether it works on those operating systems.

There is no shortcut installed to the desktop or the Start menu programs list, so, make a note of where you install the game so that you can create a shortcut yourself. (This is an assumption on my part as I've not been able to install the game)

If you get any problems once the giveaway is over, or late in the day (there's no moderation usually for the last five or six hours until the last half hour or so of the giveaway) please also post your comments over in the Forums where I've posted a thread related to today's games. There's also a FAQ's section where common problems are listed with fixes HERE.

The Game:

The Snow Queen in the original Season Match returns. In Season Match 2, Prince January has taken over his sister’s fairytale kingdom and turned it into a nightmare. He also holds all of the artifacts giving him control of the seasons. Ice and snow covers the castles of the three princesses of seasons and the Snow Queen. The kingdom’s little dwellers — ladybirds, bees, dragonflies and butterflies — struggle to survive the bitter winter.

In this match three game, players work to clear the grid to reach the magical artifact under guard. Each level contains three goals: Clear the grid, defeat the guard, and reach the artifact. Just match objects over and next to the crystals and other pieces to destroy them. You must destroy a set amount of each type of crystal to tip the scale in your favor and defeat the guard. The artifact appears after you defeat the guard, but you still need to break down the pieces protecting it from release.

When you meet all three goals and finish before time runs out (unless you play relaxed mode with no timer), you play a mini-game that has a tie in with the story and the enemy. For example, one enemy leads the wooden soldiers. After defeating him, you play the mini-game to burn down the tree soldiers with the torch.

Most mini-games involve finding the same type of hidden objects and three gold coins. You don’t find the same object every time you play the mini-game. In one scene, you wake up flower buds. In another, you light candles. Still another has you track down all the vials. The gold coins look meaningless unless you enjoy feeling proud of finding all three in every hidden object mini-game.

The nice thing about these mini-games is no two are the same. Most involve finding hidden objects, but the items always change. The mini-games at the end of a round are the hardest and most challenging part of the whole game. It doesn’t take much to win the matching games as you’ll rely on bonuses or power ups only on occasion. This is probably a good thing because it’s not easy to remember what each does.

The end of round mini-games varies. In a couple of them, you need to find something in a pile. For example, a butterfly appears and you need to dig through the sea of similar butterflies to find the exact match. These games take more work because you’re working to defeat the enemy. A couple of them make a player jumpy!

Not only does the game have seven different types of mini-games, but it also has seven colorful backgrounds and a different artifact in every level with 35 different guards protecting them. When making big moves, the sound effects help you celebrate as they’re snappy.

Season Match 2 tells the story using a not so easy to read font style, which does match the theme’s style. However, this font works better for titles and buttons rather than all of the content. The game needs capitalization, punctuation and grammar work. It contains misspelled words like collekt and phials. Every time you run out of moves, the game announces it with "No moved."

Here’s a sampling of some phrases in the game. "Now that the guard is defended and his magic doesn’t work." "I feel the turn for the better." "You’ve set up a new record." Sometimes, the game’s first language slips in when you lose and shows up in Russian instead of English.

As for the extra clicks, when completing a level — the Season Match 2 provides a story update which you click after you’ve read it. And it clears the story and you have to click again to play the next game. It seems small, but it’s annoying.

Conclusion:

Season Match 2 surpasses the original in overall production values. It also tells the story nicely in bite-size pieces. It may take a few levels of play before the story comes together, but it does and blends well with all the action in the game. Season Match 2 may not challenge every match three fan, but its variety and charming scenes could capture their attention. Those new to the match three will find this one worth trying and might open themselves to a whole genre.

Games, Games, and yet more Games plus Download, Installation & Game play Problems:

Important message to all community members who purchased any of the Bundle in a Box indie game bundles over the last few years. The site announced a few weeks ago that it was closing down permanently on the 8th August.

Until then, you can still download all your drm free games and make a note of any unredeemed Steam and Desura codes before this date. Once it has closed down you will no longer be able to access the downloads or copy the unredeemed codes.

You can find the site HERE. To get download links for each of the bundles you purchased go to the lost keys page HERE and fill in the email field with the email you used to create an account on this site. I think you will need to sign into your account before you can download the games and access your codes.

If you have any problems installing or getting to work today's game please go HERE for help. I've posted all of the common problems and solutions in a FAQ thread, which you can find in the sticky section of the forums by following the above link.

You'll also find some excellent deals over on the following Game sites, some of which have summer sales on.

GreenManGaming
Gamersgate Summer Sale
GOG
Desura
Gamestop
GameFly

To be honest there are too many game deals around too list them all. Just visit the sites I recommend above and I'm sure you'll find something that suits you. If like me, you prefer Steam-work games, many of the above sites also sell games that register via Steam.

If that's not enough, check out the Game Discussion forums HERE for details of other games either free or on deals such as the Indie Game bundles (there's over 20 of them - If you purchased all of them you'd be paying around $80 for around a thousand dollars worth of games); or check out the four day sales at IndieGameStand. I've updated the Indie Game bundle thread to include all the latest bundles. You'll find that thread HERE.

The latest IndieGameStand game is Glitchhikers a driving game with a difference. Pay above the average (stood at just over $2 earlier today) to get extra's such as the soundtrack.

The latest Daily Indie game is Arkadianax, a vertical retro shooter You can get two keys if you pay more than $1.04 (at the time of writing); (one for a friend or family member perhaps?). You'll find that deal HERE. They also have a mini bundle of several games that’ll cost a minimum of $0.99 HERE

Most of the bundles retail for around $5 give or take a few dollars, but you can pay as little as a dollar for some. Not sure if the GTR Evolution freebie is still live? see the game discussion forums for a link to the PC Gamer page.

Peggle is still available for free via Origin.

A Request for help:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you've checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
