Sea Legends: Phantasmal Light Collector's Edition:
Sea-Legends001
In Brief:
Sea Legends: Phantasmal Light Collector's Edition is a casual HOG - After their yacht crashes in a mysterious storm, Jane and Mike found themselves on the coast and separated. Exploring the mysterious island, Jane must figure out what happened to Mike. Hurry, before it's too late!

The game was originally given away on the16 th January 2016 where it received a positive 77% from 269 votes with 46 comments which you can see HERE. It was also given away the following year on the 16th of February 2019 where it received a positive 89% from 36 votes with 39 comments which you can see HERE.

You can see a few videos of game play SPOILER ALERTHERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE and one via the Steam store page HERE.

You can also see some Steam community reviews of the game HERE and feedback from the Big Fish Community HERE.

If you're in need of some help, there's a written walkthrough for the game HERE.

The Game:
Mike and Jane are enjoying a beautiful afternoon aboard their yacht, the Sea Bliss, when a storm suddenly appears. The sky turns dark and a strange symbol glow in the sky right before the yacht is hit with a powerful wave. You come to on a deserted island just in time to see Mike’s unconscious body being dragged away. Thus begins Sea Legends: Phantasmal Light.

You will need to explore the island and uncover the secrets of the mysterious lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper. Is he a madman or is there something more sinister at work here? As you explore your surroundings you will uncover some of his writings which will give you more insight into his motivations for trapping you and Mike. However, if you don’t read these notes, you are likely to be very confused by the plot. You may be confused by the end even if you do read everything you find.
Sea-Legends004

Sea-Legends005
To progress in the game you will need to search through a lot of hidden object scenes. While the graphics in the scenes are clear, they are essentially junk piles. The number of useless items and oversized buttons that have been lost on this island is crazy. You will also be revisiting most of the scene's multiple times.

You will also need to solve a variety of puzzles as you search for Mike. The majority of the puzzles you will be solving are inventory based but there are also quite a few traditional puzzles sprinkled across the island. The puzzles range in difficulty from simple to intermediate. If you become stuck, you can skip any puzzle once the skip button has fully charged.

The atmosphere in the game is well done. The scenes are dark and stormy, and you definitely get the feeling that while you are alone on the island you really aren’t. The music is somewhat repetitive but not overly annoying. The game is fully voiced but seeing as you are alone for the majority of the game you won’t be hearing a lot of talking.

The Collector’s Edition includes a bonus chapter that lets you play the game from Mike’s point of view. Unfortunately, most of the areas you will be visiting are places you’ve already visited. There are a couple new scenes though. Also, the bonus chapter includes several unique puzzles and I found myself wishing that several of them had been in the main portion of the game. The final puzzle may actually be a puzzle within a puzzle, so make your choice wisely.

Sea-Legends007
Sea Legends: Phantasmal Light doesn’t really offer anything new, but it is a pleasant game nonetheless (well as pleasant as a game about abductions and creepy cursed lighthouses can be anyways). Give the demo a try first though, to see if the plot interests you.

Whiterabbit-uk, Thank you for your detailed reviews as always. The time change has kind of put my body into some kind of reset mode as we are one hour back now. I think this may mean that Game Giveaways may be normalized once again due to the time change but can't be certain on that.

sailorbear510 aka Jason, I forgot to mention the game giveaways have a possibility of happening at 12am PST now instead of 1am PST.

sailorbear510 aka Jason,

During the summer here in the UK the giveaway changes over at 9am, which for me is perfect. Fron the last Sunday in October until the last Sunday in March it changes over at 8am, which is sometimes a stretch for me . That said you get it late in the day or early morning depending on the time of year, which I think is worse.

Jason and WR, of course, the problem is the USA has extended daylight time, which President George W. Bush instituted to save even a little more energy. We just went back to standard time this morning. For example, for me, - on USA eastern time, 4 hours different from Jason - the games in the summer change at 4 am, now they will change for me in the winter at 3 am. The changeover time is reflected for everyone in the countdown clock, of course.

Amusingly, the USA is now talking about going to permanent daylight time, and others are saying why??? If you're going to permanent anything, ought to be standard time. Permanent daylight time means that some people in the dead of winter will be going to work in the dark and children will be going to school in the dark. Although part of this silliness either way is that we haven't abandoned the old fashioned USA "bankers hours" of 9 to 5 - which invites daylight time so there's more daylight in the evening in the winter (and summer, of course) - for the more common government hours (and closer to school time) of 8 to 4:30.

To quote Confucious: Simplicity is difficult, complication is easy. :P

Oh, thanks. Nice little game. I'm not really very good with these, but I like them just the same. This is just about my speed. I am even succeeding with the mini-games. Now, look, I've spent a whole hour with it. Only closing for today because I feel guilty playing instead of getting work done. Thanks, Toomky or BigFish, GOTD, and White Rabbit.

Kelltic, hope I didn't create any confusion. Big Fish is a rival, probably older, to Toomky. Big Fish is, mostly a pay site, Toomky a free plus advert site. The reason you often see a Big Fish link in the blue game info. box is that the site owners link to Big Fish when they can - even though GGOTD isn't getting the games from there - because Big Fish usually has user reviews, many with a good amount of detail, just like some community members give here. Gives you another review source.

I like hidden object games and have enjoyed many in the past. I've gotten stuck on the last few though and deleted them before finishing them. Maybe I'm just not good at puzzle solving, or lack patience. But this one... I placed the binoculars on the tripod and everything froze up, requiring control/alt/delete and a restart to unlock it. I came to ask if anyone else had that problem but I see from the comments that other people seem to be enjoying the game. Maybe I'll give it another try or two before pulling the plug on it.

As I'm looking this over, quick note for the folks: the Big Fish link in the blue info. box below the download button is malformed, I believe. The connection keeps getting reset. However, the link provided by Whiterabbitt below for the Big Fish community works fine.

Just for info. purposes,I believe the reason the blue box link is not working is that it's incomplete. The game is available in more than 1 language. The typical Windows link on Big Fish ends as the GGOTD mods end it with ?PC. But, since language must be specified here the correct working link ends with ?PC&lang=en. Btw, Big Fish also has versions of this game in German, Spanish, and French in the Collector's edition, and Portugese, Italian, and Dutch, though only in the regular edition. But, you would, of course, have to buy it from them, unless you have a Big Fish coupon. Toomky only has the English version available.

Though some may notice that Whiterabbit's Big Fish link is for the Mac version, which sometimes generates different reviews, the Mac and Windows versions for this game have the exact same # of reviews, 69, so they are likely the same reviews, or almost the same at worst.

Oops, forgot to mention that the one thing that might help, if folks who don't speak English well can understand me, is that you can see reviews in maybe your native language, or a language you know better than English, on Big Fish. Just search for Sea Legends: Phantasmal Light in the search bar, and you will see those other 6 languages in the results.

Also forgot to mention that the Toomky raters weren't as kind as the Big Fish ones are. Big Fish has it rated in English as 4 stars out of 5, but Toomky raters only give it 3 stars. Big Fish requires a review with the rating, though, were Toomky doesn't publish reviews, so no way to know what the whys are for the Toomky raters.

no map but then you have to work at this first thoughts i thought it was going to be too blue the screen but i was wrong it is not - the graphics are good the hints only works when you are in the place you need to be otherwise it is nothing to do here thank god for the strategy guide but i only used it once the puzzles were not always easy but they were challenging in all i loved the game a really good story sad in places you want to read all the notes you find the bonus game brought it all together to give an ending and of course the bonus content very worthwhile thanks for the game

Your write up says it was originally given away on Jan 16, 2016 but my personal records show me installing it on Feb 02, 2014. So perhaps that wasn't the EXTENDED edition which had been given away then?

not working properly. language in the guide changes from english to ???, and there is no exit from it other than task manager.

Reply   |   Comment by bill  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Oops, sorry Bill. Just posted a comment that Big Fish has it in 6 languages besides English, but Toomky only has it in one, so didn't think that would happen to you. Toomky does have pages on it in German (or maybe Dutch, but I believe it's German) and Russian, but both of those pages say the Toomky version is in English, and have screenshots with English hidden objects list. Wouldn't be surprised if it's available in Russian, but haven't seen any evidence of that, yet, and haven't downloaded yet. Of course, if the lettering is not in a recognizable alphabet, then it's the Cyrillic alphabet, used in Russia (along with other Eastern European countries, btw).

mediaman(watcher)13, Downloaded a copy from the toomky site and it appears to be the same.Havig got into the game for a little way I've just realised I've done the game a few years ago, so it really doesn't matter since I won't be doing it again.

OOOH! I must have missed this one first time around. Definitely My Kind Of HOG from the look of the screenshots. Thanks to ToomkyGames, Big Fish, and GGOTD for today's game!

This is a very decent hidden object game with good productions values in my opinion. There are also mini cut scenes to help make the story more dramatic as you continue to play the game itself.

You will have to do a lot of searching in this game as I found some of the scenes difficult to play at first when searching for the objects which is the reason I chose relaxing mode.

The main game involves clicking scenes to get to different areas while clicking on certain areas bring up mini games. Although I don't find them really a game to be honest. The mini puzzle where you had to pull the pegs to lower the staircase was hardly a challenge.

This game will bring lots of hours of play to those who download it as this HO game is not short by any means.......

Really atmospheric game. The gameplay by design is very good. Naturally, new locations are only available after running some triggers in the old ones, but it's done impressively here.

The only thing that just freaked me out at the end of the game: I have to remember the order of these strange signs appearing. Other than that, would have been absolutely thrilled with the game.
