My six year old loves this game. You should definitely market it to parents who want something to teach their kids cause and affect.

It's not the usual game I play but I decide to give it a try anyway. The music is not bad. It will be nice if we have options for different music that we can alter from.

Some levels are very easy. Some levels do require a bit of thinking. Once you fail, you can keep trying the same level again and again with no penalty. If there's a penalty such as players have to go back to the level 1 again, it will make the game more challenging. No matter how easy or repetitive the game is, players have to be extra careful to prevent penalty.

@29, GMMan
How do I PM you?
I tried the proggy, win7 x64, DSL -- I have absolutely no problems with my internet connection. I get a popup:
(It would be nice if I could cut-n-paste...)
There was an error troubleshooting your network. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)

I tried running "as administrator"; I get an error that it cannot find the DLL (I am guessing that it wants to find the DLL in Windows\System32 or the like)

Hmm...
Try googling up "Grab items, collect crystals and avoid touching bad guys! Submit highscore and get awards!". The top four results are from Wheemplay. I don't believe that four of their games share the common characteristics of items, crystals, and "avoid touching bad guys".

Whiterabbit, you've been misguided. This game has zero items, crystals, or bad guys, and there are no highscores and awards either. You just can't trust their descriptions.

(Though to think of it, items, crystals, and bad guys would make this game a smidge more interesting.)

.......................Moderator comment......................

Yes I realize that now. I was assumng because wheemplay had said so in the description that it would be so. I obnly initially played the first 10 levels so assumed things would hange. I also though the game would get harder, but it didn't. There was only one level where you had to balance one medium sized snail on a single box that I had problems with; the rest were far too easy.

I was too busy with family to ammend my review a second time (I did re-assess the score an changed it from 4 to 4.5 but I should really have left it.

like most cheap games, this could use a level editor so ppl can create additional levels

but for a buck it might give you a few hours of entertainment

I agree with #2 and the others who appreciated the online version. I completed the game in less than 15 minutes. Glad I didn't go to the trouble of downloading it. Frankly, I don't even think this game deserved being published here at GGOTD. But thanks anyway guys!

I think I finished all 30 levels in less than 30 mins. I was expecting more. Also, you said something about "Once you’ve played several levels you’ll be introduced to bad guys and collecting crystals. You have to collect the crystals while avoiding touching the bad guys, which makes it a little more difficult to save your snails from falling into the water" above. I didn't see any crystals or 'bad guys' maybe this was a typo?? This game has the potential to be better, it just seems like they didn't finish the game. These 30 levels were great 'starter' levels. But where is the rest of the game?

....................Moderator comment...................

Yeah I know, I was wrong. I also played through the 30 levels. I really though it would get harder as it seemed to be doing. The guys over on Wheempla lied.

Good game. It reminds me of when I was a kid and played the original Mario Bros. I wanted to raise my leg and bite my lip as I tried it the first few times. I don't have it down completely but I am glad to have something to bring back some happy memories. Thank you guys so much and keep up the good work.

Thank you for the game offer, but I just couldn't get into this one. The snails are pretty cute, for as grumpy as they are. Unfortunately, 'cute' didn't offset the repetitive levels.

Thanks anyway

I'll skip this, and any other Wheemplay game. They make up quotes from "customers" and attribute quotes to websites (such as the ign.com quote on Caesar Quest) where there is no review. No need to lie like that, makes me wonder what other lies they'd tell or trouble their software is going to cause.

...................Moderator Comment..............

I've not had any problems running any of their software so far and have got some excellent puzzle games for free. As for trouble, all games distributed via the game giveaway site are rigorously tested to make sure they are safe. Tis is one reason why we have thousands of community members downloading everytime a game is given away. they know the site can be trusted. As for Wheemplay themselves, I can't answer for them.

I played the online version and it only took me about 20 mins to complete (lost 1 snail lol) I agree its a very simple game but probably worth it if you have young children, otherwise its not really worth downloading. That said, thanks to the developers for giving it to GGAOTD and thanks to GGAOTD for all the game syou manage to get hold of for us xx

Hmm... Let's go over the features as described in the giveaway description:

- Enormously emotional snails!
The look angry or defiant. Is that emotional?

- 30 awesome and addictive levels with different approaches.
Awesome? Sort of. Addictive? Not really. Different approaches? Yes.

- Achievements and highscores.
Don't see them.

- Highscores and awards.
Also non-existent.

This game only fulfills around 40% of what is advertised.

@Whiterabbit: Your game introduction is wrong: it should be "Save the snails from falling in the water in this great physics based puzzle game. Use the buoyant objects provided in each level to keep all of the snails afloat.", though it's probably Wheemplay's fault for having things all over the place.

Well, this game I somewhat enjoy, but it's one of those single-play games that once you beat, there's no point playing it again. It's not very challenging, and the objective's the same for each level, but you do have to do a bit of planning if you want things to work the first time.

I'd suggest:
1. More levels
2. Make them more difficult
3. Have more than just snails. Maybe some sort of bonus.
4. More graphics variation
5. More music
6. I still feel something's missing, but I'm not quite sure what it is. Maybe it's a level editor.

I downloaded yesterday's free game - Star Defender 3. I was told by several people that it is just a 5 day trial. After the 5 days, I would be asked for credit card information and told to purchase the game or give it up.
Is this true?

.......................Moderator comment...........................

It's called Gamegiveawayoftheday. You have to download and install the game within a 24 hour period which ended at 8am GMT this morning (3am Eastern time, 1am Mountain Time and midnight Pacific Time). If ou don't install and activate the game within that time period then you won't be able to. As for asking for credit card info, that's a total lie. Someone was either pulling your leg or lying to you to try and rip you off.

Thank you so much for the link to play first before downloading. I'm not going to. It's way too simple and I couldn't bring myself to play after level 7. Wheemplay might consider making this into an iPhone app though, as my kids would probably like to play it on their iPods. It's not going in my computer, but thanks anyway Wheemplay and GGTD.

I would definitely say give this a go and persevere. The first few levels are repetetive, but from level 9 on it is far from easy to say the least! Altogether quite good fun later on! Would be improved if you could choose the items/snails or not, with two or three difficulty levels, and if some of the earlier repetition was removed and replaced by more, difficult levels!

I just played the game on the link. It isn't bad for something to fill a small amount of time and I imagine it would be a nice exercise for very young children to learn about balance and planning. However, it is too easy for most adults.

I am glad that I didn't spend time downloading it and then having to remove it.

I would suggest that if the developers are going to market it that they do a bit of a rewrite and gear it towards a children's learning tool.

A great thanks to GGTD for having something for us to check out.

"Can you please stop publishing Wheemplay games on here?"

Personally, I like seeing them on here for a few reasons.

- I know there's ways to scrape them off the web if you're into that, but I like having them nice and legal like.

- For security reasons I usually have my LAN disabled and do most of my work disconnected from the web, so having simple games I can play during a break without being online is quite valuable to me.

- The majority of Wheemplay games, though short, are a good break that usually require some thinking but are still entertaining. They've contributed quite a bit here and without them we wouldn't be seeing nearly as many games on this site - it's not like other developers are being pushed aside to provide space for Wheemplay.

- The sites that host flash games aren't just doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. They usually drop a Flash cookie (aka Super Cookie) on your computer to track you. A lot of the cleaners and privacy programs only recently started dealing with flash cookies (and some still don't).

So, for my vote, please keep publishing Wheemplay games on here, even though most can be played online elsewhere.

..............................Moderator comment....................

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Thankfully it's unlikely that the giveaway team would stop getting Wheemplay games. They are actually quite popular.

Personally i'd love to see a whole bunch of the games released in one package, sort of like a compendium of games. All of the games are relatively short, so it would go a long way to extending the length of the game. There's an underlying theme about most of wheemplays games, that is they tend to be physics based.

I do so appreciate links to sites where you can try the game online first before downloading. Thank you for that. This is a very simple game and I played all 30 levels, but there is not a challenge in the game at all. It is far too easy to be interesting. I will not be playing this again and I am sorry to say that I am not going to download it either. I am looking forward to next Saturday's give away game though.

Went straight to the link mentioned by Whiterabbit to give it a try online and also followed the walkthrough. Managed to put up with it for 4 levels but found it very tedious and repetitive. Not one for me, but thanks for the offer.

Just a very basic review today:

Installation:

Here's another Wheemplay game. Most of you know the score with these games. They are flash based games that install to the following path:

C:/Games

The 7.88Mb zip file unpacks to a read me and a dual activation and set up module that's wrapped with the giveaway custom wrapper. Once installed you'll need to create a shortcut. You'll find the executable in the games folder but not in one of it's own (as with all Wheemplay games).

The game plays on XP, Vista and Win 7

Introduction

Grab items, collect crystals and avoid touching bad guys! Submit highscore and get awards!

Reference accessed HERE 14th Aug 2011

The Game

Here’s a very simple physics based game where you have to balance snails on rafts of various sizes and shapes. There are 30 levels in total. Each successive level includes extra snails sometimes of different sizes and eventually enemies and crystals. If you tip the raft so that the snails fall into the water you’ve lost and have to restart the level.

PicDepict.com
PicDepict.com

Once you've played several levels you'll be introduced to bad guys and collecting crystals. You have to collect the crystals while avoiding touching the bad guys, which makes it a little more difficult to save your snails from falling into the water.

Initially you'll get logs for the snails to float on but later things become more complicated with barrels, boxes and other shaped floatables. The aim of the game is to make sure the snails don't fall directly into the water because they sink to the bottom. You're allowed to immerse the snails in water, but they must still be supported by a floatable object beneath them. If a snail does fall off a floatable you have to replay the level. At the beginning of the game all levels are locked apart from the first two levels; as you progress you'll always find two levels unlocked which helps a little if you've become stuck.

There are only 30 levels to play with achievements to win and a high score table. The game starts in windowed mode, but you can play the game in full screen mode by clicking on the maximise button to the top right of the window. You can also close the game from this location. To the top left of the game playing area you'll find three buttons. These are toggles for sound and music plus a reset button that allows you to restart the level.

There’s a spoiler video walkthrough of the game HERE.

Conclusion

Save the Snail is a very simple game that for me got tired very quickly. There’s little variation in the game which makes it hard to enjoy (IMO). Though after playing through the first several levels I did find it increasingly challenging but not impossible. You needed to balance the snails on the variety of floatable objects that changed every few levels from logs to rafts and various shaped pieces such as barrels, boxes, and even triangles.

I'm a little torn with this game. My initial thoughs basically said "boring" but persevering and getting past the first 10 or so levels I found the game to be quite challenging. It's still got little in the way of variation but I wouldn't write the game off totally. Give it a try and try and see if you can get to the end without falling in the water. I bet you can't go the whole 30 levels without at least one snail falling into the water,

Scoring

Gameplay - 5
Graphics - 4
Sound - 4 (became very annoying after a while)
Re-playability – 5

Overall score 4.5 out of 10
