Samurai in Africa

This is another of those £0.79 games from Nekyau Games. Samurai in Africa is a simple runner game, where you have just one key (space bar or LMB) to click when jumping from platform to platform. (though I discovered that you could press any key to jump). If you fail to make the jump and fall into one of the ravines, you start from the beginning again, again again and ...... Ad infinitum. There is a counter in the top left of the screen that tells you how far you have traveled.

I played the game for about 30 minutes in two sessions and never made it further than around 9000. There is a simple main menu that includes the Play, Tutorial and Quit buttons. You can see what the tutorial offers in the second image below.

The background hills remain stationary and don't change throughout the level. I don't know if there are more than one level, or whether this is one of those endless runners with just one level. I suspect the latter after playing a lot of Nekyau games, most of which only have one level. As with virtually every Nekyau game I've received, I deleted it as it became boring very fast. The music is very retro, and I had to turn it off via Windows volume mixer as there is no option menu included with the game. To quit the game just click on the little house icon in the top right hand corner. This will take you to the main menu where you can quit the game via the quit button. This is the first time I can remember being able to close a Nekyau game down without having to open up the task manager. The game starts in a very small window, but you can make it full screen by clicking the full screen button in the top right hand corner of the window.

It would have been nice to have a high score table so that you could keep a record of your progress, however, there's no option to create a named account (as usual with Nekyau games). My final word. This is a little better than most of the games we've seen from Nekyau games,;but, as said above, it does become a little tedious after a short run, especially if you have to constantly restart. Get the timing right and you should be able to easily beat my high score. :) Maybe if someone posts their higher scores I'll try the game out again; though I have much better runner games in my steam account. :)
