Using the Botnet Network, which was created after the infestation of millions computers with the virus Downadup, a large scale distributed attack has been launched. A large number of computers from all over the world were victims of the attack, which lasted for a few hours. After the incident the entire internet infrastructure was left in a disturbed state and many security systems were overloaded with data traffic.

Great game ! Thank you GGOTD and RVL Games for this wonderful weekend. I completed the game and it was a blast. Even though I prefer Uplink for it complexity, this game was very immersive and the puzzles were nice. You need a computer networking knowledge background to understand some puzzles though.
@37 If you ever played Uplink, you would find that this game does not really require pencil/paper for notes, you can go back in your console to retrieve your infos. And this game (compared to Uplink) does not really use too much IP addresses like 192.168.25.25 which are really a pain to memorize (so you need pencil/paper).
@31 It is not rv1.hacker.com , it is rvl.hacker.com (letter l not number 1)
Thank you again, I started to play Hacker Evolution Untold which is much harder than RVL hacker even though it is the same engine. But I love those hacker game... Keep posting original games please

re #12, "Does it work in 64-bit vs 32-bit systems?":
It installed & works very well on both:
(1) Vista Home Prem.-SP2 x64 (64-bit) system,
as well as on
(2) XP-SP3 x86 (32-bit) system.
AND it's "not too shabby", to say the least!
Gives you some "brain exercise", that's for sure!
While it IS a bit hard for me to see, too, (my eyesight is also "not the best", re #5, "Gaming Granma"), if I put my glasses on & adjust the monitor a little, then tilt it up a bit, (it's an LCD flat-panel), I can see things more than well enough to play it;
I got through the first level OK, since that's the "coached/learn how to play/how to do what" level, which was MUCH better & faster to learn how to play from, than an instruction manual would be,
...and the "instant help" is great, too, as is the "instant pause"...
So you can pause it, "put it in the background & get the desktop back" by using the "Windows" Key (or perhaps another key?),
and do something else on your machine, & then come back to your game later, right where you left off;
An exremely well-done & well-thought-out game!
...so next is the hard part:
I've got to remember all of the steps & commands to get through the next level, which isn't "coached", like Level 1 is!
Even that's OK, because there's always "Start a New Game", in case you forgot how to do something...
Someone really came up with a good game (that doesn't need an inch-thick book to memorize along with it in order to play it)!
And, no "controller" is needed, or relying on the mouse or specific "hotkeys", so it's as good on a laptop with a touchpad as it is on a desktop machine, (and if on a laptop or "NetBook", you can always plug in a $5 USB full-sized keyboard!)
I'm really impressed! (And it takes a LOT to impress me)
Thanks again, Games-GAOTD Team, for finding a game that's worth the time to play, and for bringing this site "back to life"!
...Now, if only there were more game publishers who'd let GAOTD get this site running with "a new game every day", like it's title implies...
But hey, it's a start, (or re-start),
And the game's definitely a winner in my book, and a nice change from the plethora of "FPS"-type games that there are too many of already; This one's a nice challenging change!
:o)

Hi GGotD.
Suggestion. Could you please make these two day giveaways? Since GGotD hasn't been posting recently, I missed this one yesterday as I didn't expect any more games from GGotD.
So, anyway to put this one up for offer again? I would really like to try this game out.
Thanks.

Great, game. I wish there was more info on the web about it, though.
(walkthrough's, cheats, tutorials, etc . . .)

I love those games, i just cant stop playing these. Just like when I first played civilization. I could not see the time running and you end up 2 hours latter in a heart beat. Thank you RVL for this free release

If you like playing games that are mind-boggling and take some time this is definately a great find. Thanks, RVL & GGoTD.

Looks like a neat game in the vein of Hacker/Uplink/Hacker Evolved. Only a few more like this and we have a fully "new" genre on our hands! But in all seriousness, much thanks to Giveaway of the Day and RVL Games.

Awesome, I love hacking simulation games! If I could rate this, id give it 5/5!

Looks a LOT like Uplink, which I loved playing some years ago. Sadly, I just switched to Ubuntu, and couldn't get this guy to run under Wine. (Installed okay, just had some MAJOR performance issues.) Not for me this time around, I guess.
Thanks anyway, GGAOTD. Good to hear from you again!

@ Oneiros If you visit the site you'll see that this game is NOT from Exosyphen Studios, rather, it is powered by the Hacker Evolution engine from Exosyphen Studios.
Yay! Game Giveaway of the Day finally has a non puzzle game for download!

This is a (yet another) modified version of Hacker Evolution.
Hacker Evolution is a Uplink clone, but I think Uplink is a better game because it has more features.

Great game. At the begining I have problem with typing because "l" looks like "1".Anyway its very good game. I'm waiting for the next "give away of the day" :)

It's not the same as Hacker Uplink but it's using the same engine, basically consider it a total mod of that game.
Problems with the game:
Horrible English, misspellings and syntax. Please guys, before you push this out to a (primarily) US audience get a native speaker of the language to clean it up.
Very difficult and not forgiving of mistakes. You need to complete each level at perfect or near-perfect because your status carries over. It is possible to complete a stage but not be able to complete the next stage due to too high trace level. This can be compounded by completing one stage poorly, causing you to really struggle in stage X+1 and making stage X+2 impossible. No save option, once you complete a stage you can't go back to re-play it. Your only solution is to start over from the very beginning.
You really need a piece of scratch paper to play also, not a deal-breaker but a bit annoying. You connect to several computers in each stage and will need to use several in the next stage(s) but you lose their names in the game. You either need to re-find them in the game (increasing your trace level) or search by the name you wrote on the paper.
Bug: You are supposed to be able to use a hacked computer 3 times as an intermediate step however it only works for 2.
Neat concept, does a good job of giving you the general feel of hacking computers however it's execution is poor.

cant get past level two. i cant download the file cuz i dont know what the file name is...HELP!

1) Glad to FINALLY see that this site wasn't "forsaken"!, and MUCH more importantly:
2) WHAT ABOUT 32-BIT vs 64-BIT Systems/OS's (in the "Systems Requirements")?!?
...At least the offering of the GAOTD "apps" site, (the one everyone still checks every day or so) tells you "right up front" that it "won't work on 64-bit system", so while I could've really USED that d/l, I saved myself a download & endless frustration, which would've ended with something between a "refusal to install" to a "partial install w/lockup", & those "partials" are best corrected with a "Full-System Restore";
(That's why I always run or update my full-system backup sets just BEFORE trying anything from anywhere, but even so, that "full restore" takes all day!)
That's why it WOULD be nice to know beforehand, not to mention knowing if one should avoid tying up bandwidth and server-time downloading something that one can't even install;
I'll "give this one a go", just in case it DOES work, since I've never been able to get anything from this "GAME Of The Day" site before, (and it sounds like an interesting "brain excersize" game!)
GAOTD-"Games"-Team, Thanks for "bringing the site back to life"!
:o)

I love the "look & feel" of this game. Reminds me a lot of the "simulations" I played on the "cutting-edge" Home Computers of the '80s ~ only here, the monochrome graphics are intentional.
The cyborg-like speech in this game suits the atmosphere.
This game is fairly "nerdy" and will require that you engage your imagination to progress. Pretend you're 12 again and play "make believe" to attain an immersive experience.

I can't play it. It tells me to scan rv1.hacker.com and when I do, server is unreachable. What kind of tutorial is that? If anyone knows, please e-mail me at rafel@qetour.com.br

This is a VERY good game. One of my favorites my far. You are a hacker, trying to figure out why the US's servers were hacked...
It is a puzzle...but a different puzzle than I have ever played...because there are so many parts to it.
You must keep your trace level below 100%, but every action you take to gain access to a new server will increase your tracye.
You must find all the files you need to finish your mission, and to find other servers.
The only way to decrease your trace level is by spending money...which is earned by transferring off of servers (yes, transferring increases your trace)
Every time you try to decrypt/crack/transfer, there is a timer that you have to finish the action by, or your trace level increases by 50 percent.
You may bounce off of servers you have already gained full access to, to double your trace time...but only 3 times per server.
You may increase your hardware, making trace times higher, and access speeds lower.
Now try managing all of that! (And doing it under 30 minutes)

Thanks for today's GGOTD, even if I can't run around and kill monsters.
Hmmm, OK, mysterious comment #11 by Robert - what is the difference - or relationship? - between Hacker Evolution and RVL Hacker? I also see in his link that there is a version for pocketpc, yay!

Installed ok Win 7 & makes desktop icon. In tutorial after doing the first two short type commands, it says server rv1.hacker.com is not
available. I'll read a comments here to see what others do.
Yes screen is darkish & small type even on 768x1024. Dull looking
hacker game so far. Thanks anyway. Maybe get some decent games later.
As for me going out to park to enjoy last weekend of summer.

The goal of this game is to hack into various computer systems using somewhat realistic commands and tool sets. While i've only played the first couple of levels, so far, this appears to be a little less complicated than uplink and more straightforward. This certainly oversimplifies what is required to hack most machines, but it gives a good idea of the basics involved in hacking.
The interface and graphics are pretty good and it appears that it will be a better than average game.
If you are interested in games that introduce you to hacking, this is right down your alley.
Thanks, GGOTD!!!

I agree with Jean. Just looking at the screenshots it gives me a headache. I won't be downloading this but welcome back. I will check in tomorrow (even a screensaver would be better than nothing ;-) ).

The games are back, that's fine.
Todays game not so fine.
Do to screensize and choice of text colour it is not readable on my notebook.
If you have a large bright screen it's worth trying.
Even works on Windows-7-Enterprise (=Ultimate) edition.

Doesn't look too appealing to me, I think I'll pass.
I didn't vote, though, since I didn't try it.
Welcome back, Game Giveaway, though. Hopefully you'll stick around for a while (or at least TELL US what's going on).
As for this game, at least it's different. It's not the "3-match clone giveawayoftheday". So credit goes for that.
Please keep them coming!

Thanks GGOTD for this game, I confirm it's an uplink clone !
But the bad news is : I'm playing on a laptop and it's impossible to enter some character (the underscore for exemple) so I can't complete the first mission. The SHIFT + Key doesn't work ...
Any issue ?

#7, Oneiros, a suggestion to you and all others, I use the Game GAOTD page as my favorites link. The page has a link to the GAOTD software, so every day I can see if there is a game or not, and with one click move on to the free software offering.

One more time, after a long dead time we have GamesGaD up and running with an Exosyphen Studios' (here named RVL Games) game. And one more time lots of gamers will lost a great game due to simply not expecting one at the Games site. Well, THANK YOU both RVL and GadTeam, anyways. Have great expectations on this one - people who knows what Hacker Evolution - Untold means should take a closer look on this one. People who don't - it pays the visit, but be sure to get some previous tutorial experiences.

I am not able to play the game, because it doesn't even start. Instead of starting it shows an error notice that my display should at least have a 1280*768 res, but my monitor has a 1280*720 res, which is a suitable res as well, according to the log.ini
Too bad :-((
