Greetings, Whiterabbit!

I waited until late in the day, hoping the problems would be fixed -- but, no: downloaded the zipped files OK, unzipped OK, ran SetUp OK, but the game is nowhere to be found on my computer, even using 'search', and I've tried the process twice! Weird!

I'm hoping this giveaway will be extended or repeated, because I lost this game when my old computer died.

i've got 9 min to go and can't get past the 404 error. pls fix and reoffer tomorrow...

Hi,

I downloaded this the last time and still play once in awhile. Compared to other games of the same type, this one does get boring and is repetitive. The games works fine and graphics are decent, though not up to par with newer games or true action ones. I think the game is more suited to younger players.

I keep getting a error message trying to download game

I am getting an error message trying to download game

Not able to download - not on US site or NL site.
Disappointing!

Downloaded and installed but it will not run. System is Windows 7.

Oh and I had this game from before on my other computer.
It is a good Match 3 game.
It can get boring after awhile, but it is very good for when you need something to occupy some time. I tended to take it in chunks...play for a bit, then do something else, and come back to it a few days later.

I was able to download the file ok (after waiting from this morning when I got the 404)

I am still having problems installing though. I had problems a few weeks ago and only solved it by downloading it on a different computer and then copying the files to this one.

I have narrowed it down to my security suite. I am using Kaspersky on this computer. It seems to flag the setup.exe as low restricted. which only allows to read but not actually execute. I have tried changing it to trusted, but whenever I run it generates a new setup.exe and it flags it again. I have tried turning off Kaspersky & also turning off just that section of it but it still doesn't let it through.
I was able to get last weeks because I had a different problem with it and had to uninstall and re-install Kaspersky. I installed the game when it was totally off my computer. (and it installed fine, so I know that this is the problem)

I would really like to be able to find a way around this as I can't uninstall & re-install for each giveaway ;)
I have googled, but so far haven't found anything that corrects this, short of changing security suites.
(I have AVG on my other computer that I have no problem with installing from the giveway sites)

Already had the game. But I tried to download it because of the problem people were having. It downloaded okay for me...Ontario, Ca.

Thanks to GGOTD for the game and Star Ashes too. This game needs more explosions...or something ...different colours and bonuses. And a little bit of directions..I had 3 people wanting to tell me things..and I just picked who ever. Did it matter who I picked?..I haven't a clue. I hadn't played it since it was given away before. Finished the game but it was "meh". I usually like Star Ashes games..but this one..was OK.

Thanks again for the free game but I find these Match 3 games kinda boring and this one in no different. Not much brain power is needed.

I also wanted to add that I get the same timeout problem when using a proper ftp client and when using the regular url rather than the ip address via ftp. In talking it over with someone who does these things for a living, he's suggested that it's the result of incomplete mirroring to akamai (in less technical terms, it's a problem only the people running the website can fix, but that info might help them fix it faster).

Re: QM's question in #35 -- I'm one of those unable to download, and your instinct regarding the main site was correct. I can't download that either (it 404s as well). I tried the FTP link, which was at least a different error. When I use that the connection times out, and changing it back to try via http (but still using the ip address) took me back to the 404.

Thank you for your feedback Stacey; sorry I couldn't be of more help. I thought the owners would have tried to fix the problem. It may be an external problem affecting a server between yourself and the game giveaway servers. I'm not an expert, but know that we don't get downloads direct from the server; they are routed through several, depending where you are in relation to the giveaway servers. That's why it appears to only be affecting some and not all community members. It would have been interesting to see where all members still getting a 404 live in relation to the giveaway server.

Nice game for a spare 5 minutes. It needs more challenges but I will keep it for a while because of the great graphics and feel good scenery.

The download works for me. I do have a question- are those unable to download this, able to download the main site giveaway? They are on the same server (I got the filename from clicking the download link, then subbed in that file in WR's files.giveaway... link and it worked).

Hmm. Tried plugging in 199.101.132.209 for files.giveawayoftheday.com and got a 404. Noticed Palemoon prefixed the ip address with http://, and for kicks tried changing it to ftp://. That worked. Does this link work for anyone who is getting 404s?

If this is the same Rune Stone Quest as offered previously, I can say i enjoyed it. Graphics are a bit bland but the gameplay is somewhat different in that you don't necessarily play for the highest score but to remove or uncover certain items in the least time. I particularly like the alchemist levels where it doesn't matter how much you remove or how quickly, your goal is to free the gems at the bottom. You may have two or three "quest givers" at any one time, you can select any of them in any order, but you eventually must do all of them. And, on my system at least (Vista 32), I can slide items as well as drag-and-drop.

I only have two minor complaints with this game. You often end up grinding while waiting for usable tiles to drop ...and watching the timer run out (I "cheat" by restarting the level). And you frequently do something (I've yet to ascertain what) which causes an entire row or column to be temporarily blocked, often on the other side of the screen from where you're working.

The village building aspect is merely show, there's no interaction, just a new building appears as you reach certain points in the game.

I've kept this since the last giveaway, nothing spectacular, but a pleasant diversion.

For sth. Completely different: You gave the advice to follow a "2nd link"? If the link to the HP of this game had been in your mind, forget it. The downloaded program has benn less than 300k and trying to start it, led to a question if my TEMP folder would be OK. It is, because more than just five programs have got acesss to it. I liked Stars'n'Ashes for their breakout-style games. But today I#ve learned to avoid anything related to stars and ashes (except documentaries concerning the universe).

Why has my comment about loading the file via an US-proxy been deleted?
It has been the only way for me to get that game and I guess others would appreciate that experience.

hi Peter, I've been the only moderator on today and I've not deleted any comment. I usually allow all comments through. If there is any inappropriate language i'll delete that part of the post and explain why I've deleted it. It's possible that your post may have gone in the spam bin, especially if you posted a link.

Compared to what's come out already for match-3s, this is more on the lower end of the scale. It feels primitive and it gets boring just having to make matches until a certain count is reached.

Download from normal link works for me but I have seen comments (at least on the Dutch giveaway page) of people having 404's there as well So there might have been a server problem, seems fixed since I could download both giveaways without problems.

Install went ok, played ok. I can see why people say it get's boring but it is always good for a few hours of mindless fun. Did get an error (Runestonequest.exe stopped working) when exiting the game though

Plays fine Win 8.1 x64 Pro. Full screen, options. Tried it last time and wasn't super happy. Same version again but I seem to enjoy it bit more. Since doesn't seem timed maybe just seems relaxing figuring out strategy, at least in early rounds.
Don't exactly remember what bugged me last time since there are so many of these metch type games. Do like the easy movement method of click & drag vs ones requiring a double click. Will hang onto this one for now. Clean graphics. 7/10 for fans. Thanks guys.

I haven't downloaded much stuff from GAOTD lately because they started limiting speeds to 100 kbps and now it takes forever just to download software and games. It used to be much faster.

Anyway, I tried this game out and it is just your typical match 3 game... the levels are similar and it gets boring after a few rounds. Plus its harder to move than other match 3 games I've played.

Darn -- thought I'd found the answer...

Dumped cache...tried in both Firefox and Chrome but no success.

Would love to try this game...I'll check back later in hopes of gaining access.

404 Not Found

Windows 7 laptop. Everything installed just perfectly. No 404 errors, can connect to giveawayoftheday just fine. Not a very exciting game, maybe a child may enjoy. The game does seem to flash and jump once in awhile at first then more often as time goes on. Must be a glitch of some kind. I would have to give the game a thumbs down because of that problem alone. I do not have any problems like that with other games on my laptop. The game in my opinion is boring.

Downloaded and installed fine on my 32-bit XP Pro, SP3 machine.

At first play, it feels 'clunky' and slow, due to you, the player, 'actually' picking objects up, moving them over, then dropping them, rather than the more traditionally-straightforward 'sliding' technique. This is a pity since, with the right graphics, it could be a much more involving method of play such as the 'time management'-like storyline/instructions demand.

Although I don't personally like pure time-management games, I do like that there is that element within this game. I assume the fact that you can have 3 characters ready to give instructions means that you don't necessarily have to take them in any specific order (though you probably won't be able to ignore any of them for any length of time).

The need to avoid 'pests' is a somewhat rare element that I like - it gives the game a more strategic feel and I'm glad they can be destroyed by the 'explosive fire' (and maybe other bonuses?). I do, however, find it somewhat 'odd' that ONLY lines leading to/from pests, and not those that pass across them will set them off - not that I particularly want the extra difficulty that 'crossers' would bring, of course... ;-)

As far as match 3 games go, this one is kinda boring.

I installed it and it seems to be working; however, after installation the usual Window for connecting to giveawayoftheday.com is not working; and Windows says "Giveawayoftheday failed to connect to the website. But the game is working. Anyone else have this problem? I have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

There appears to be a partial global problem. I was able to download and install the game. Hopefully the admin guys will fix it later.
