For a person who has problems loading explorer windows & files, it can take a while to remove all the junk & links it downloads with it.

It's still a fine game. Spent ten minutes, then my eyes started protesting the colors on the board. I have yet to test what happens if you select one or all of the numbers on the board- but I must try =) I prefer to take the numbers down on paper and solve them- for fellow people who cannot keep their eyes on this game long.

Doublegames' stuff isn't -all- junk. Just because it carries such a brand name should not immediately turn you off until you try it.

#16: actually, sudoku puzzles are generally computer-generated. Still, most of the generators check for uniqueness of the solution. This one doesn't.

Like many others, I love Sudoku. But this version leaves me cold. No way can you logically work the solution out. Also, a good sudoku game should allow you to enter guesses into each square so that you can work methodically.
Thanks, but this one goes into the bin.

Hi, games on limited time givaway is good idea. In this case it saved me $10, I would be very unhappy paying for this. Simple random number generator would be better fun. Sorry but this is a miss.

hmm, i was sure it was DoubleGames and surprised when it wasn't. After reading the comments, i see I wasn't the only one who felt that way, and then come to find out, the 2 names are affiliated.
GGAOTD, give us a break, please!
Maybe tomorrow!

Never been a Sudoku fan. Too tedious for how easy it is.

I will try a game and give an opinion. If you like Sudoku, this is a fine version. I found no problems, except the inclusion of too many links. Why do people think that does any good? Most users have learned to just delete that garbage when it shows up, and it is just an annoyance. I hope all that garbage is not in the paid version, I would be PO'd if I paid to get a bunch of kludge on my desktop.

Decent game, but not for me. I have a couple of family/friends who I turned on to this one, and they have not stopped playing to tell me what they think. I assume that means it is good.

oooh . . . sudoku . . . one of my favorites. I didn't get too far into playing, but if it is true, as #8 suggested, that the solutions are not unique, then it doesn't truly feel like sudoku :(

Good morning everyone! ;)

I too love Sudoku in all its forms and I have played a few when I was learning where they actually have 4 tiny numbers in one of the top corners. These are not definite solutions, but 'possible' numbers.

What it's telling you is that these are the only 4 numbers that can go in any particular square - but does not give you the answer. You still need to make any one number work with the squares around itself, the line it's in etc., - this still leaves literally thousands of possibilities.

I've downloaded this one and will pop back later with a review.

At first glance from the logo I thought that this was a Double Games game and indeed when I saw the screenshot, the Chinese style cartoons are alarmingly similar to some of those in recent Double Games downloads. Confirmation that the 2 companies may be linked is in the Home Pages of each - Double Games and Free4Games are offering the same software, some titles of which include recently advertised on game.giveawayoftheday games as "Agatha Christie - Death On The Nile", "Grimm's Hatchery" and "The Apprentice - Los Angeles".

Royal Sudoku downloaded and installed seemlessly and the interface is simple and pleasing. It may be difficult to play for a long time looking at the dark board with pale numerals and with the fact that games cannot be saved anyone wishing to complete a game would indeed have to sit for some time as the board is comprised of 4x4 squares as opposed to the traditional 3x3.

The music of the game is, I found, highly irrating, it is not so much music as a repetitive noise, fortunately the game can be muted instantly from the game board itself.

It is a shame that the hints cannot be turned off for a more challenging game - placing the cursor over a square gives all currently possible options for it. The answer, of course, is to decide what your answer is before putting your cursor over a square!

What makes this game different and more challenging than other versions, aside from the 4x4 squares, is the fact that you can use letters instead of numbers or have a combination of the 2. For any regular players of the game this makes you think a lot harder to decipher possible solutions to a square.

Amazingly, the number of games appears to exceed 999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 (you can type in any number to play that game - I got up to this and they were still changing a few more 9s and the games stayed the same - although admittedly I have not checked for duplicates...!!!! ;-)) and you can also specify how many answers you want already given at the start of each game - so you really can make it as challenging as you like.

Probably not an engaging game for most children or anyone starting out on Sudoku for the first time but for seasoned players this is a challenging program that will no doubt while away many hours and is definitely one that fans of the game should keep installed.

Real Sudoku puzzles are man made and have only one solution. Computer generated puzzles can have many many solutions and are not as fun in my mind.

Keep up the great work, GGotD!

Tho' I love Sudoku I don't like the "hint" feature of this program (place your pointer over the box and get a list of potential answers) as this makes the puzzle very easy. Additionally the algorithm used for the puzzle generation seems flawed as it often generates puzzles with many solutions. Ideally a Sudoku has one answer.
Sudoku is popular in the geek community. Sure enough a quick search at sourceforge.net shows 87 active projects labelled "Sudoku". A couple of these programs even allow you to take on 3D Sudokus - now there's a challenge!
My two favourites are: http://sourceforge.net/projects/winsudoku and http://sudoku.snesreviews.co.uk/. As usual these programs are on GNU GPL's and are hence free now and forever.

Just what I was thinking.

BTW, I thought the links on the other Featured games were just to find out more details, but they are download links.

What folks are calling "16x16" is typically called 4x4. (My heart skipped a beat for a moment as I imagined a sudoku puzzle 256 square across and 256 squares down, comprised of 16x16 blocks! Darn!)

For poster #4: look around, there are 5x5 puzzles (I guess you would call it a 25x25?) both on paper and in software.

I've also once seen a 6x6 that used 0-9 plus A-Z for 36 characters.

The idea of a 16x16 puzzle is great. However, a good sudoku puzzle should have a unique solution, so that you should be able to get to the solution with just logic steps, and not by guessing. The first puzzle that has been showed me has at least 77000 solutions, and still counting. (I don't want to spend the next few eras counting all of them.) That's too bad: I could get an empty board, randomly fill a few squares with numbers, and I would have a puzzle as challenging as the ones proposed by this game. I have immediately removed this software and all rubbish links put here and there.

BTW, the graphics is similar to the one of several games from DoubleGames.

Went crazy after about 1min cause of the music, and the game is way to easy cause it gives you a box of possible numbers when you go over any square.......

Takes the reason I play sudoku out of the game, I give it a 3 for the idea

Very good game! Always are the Sudoku puzzles in the simple form of 9x9, and now it's 16x16. And not to much is already filled in. This is a really mind challenging program. So in a scale from 0-10 I give the program 10 points.

I love Sudoku in all it's forms, and this one is one of the toughest ones I've tried yet. Very Challenging. A save game option would have been a great feature to have with this one as would a hint button.
Thanks for offering it.
