Kayaknut comment #42, when you click on the link and the page opens, scroll down to the screenshots. Above the screenshots is a hyperlink which says:

Download Free Full Version Game

Click on that.... hopefully you should get the download to start./

If you get a beeping sound, check below the internet explorer toolbar, or fire fox tool bar, where you may see a yellow bar that says;

“To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options.”

Clicking on the bar will give you three choices, the first of which will say:

Download the file

Clicking on this will bring up the download window.

This site has been marked red by MacAfee Site Advisor, because of the nag screen I mentioned in my last post. I've thoroughly checked this site and found that this is the only down side to these games, and the nag screen is easily turned off once the game has finished. You get no screens until the game is closed down and then it's only one that takes you to the home page where you can download more games. The home page guarantees’ no spy ware, virus’s or other malware.

PS Carol, yes I'm from the UK

Pamela: I've got CSI:Dark Motives, that I'd gladly send to you as I've got far too many games to play. I’ve had it since Christmas 2005 and have never even installed it on my computer. I much prefer FPS or RPG games. (Although this particular game could be classed as an rpg.)

Swan: It's great that there are a number of us that spend the time reviewing these games as I’ve not got the energy to do it every day, lol.

later folks, have a great week. :)

Thanks GGAotD....you are the best :D

I like the Bushido Solitaire very much. It's just a pleasant solitaire game with that 'a win is possible every time' free cell thing going for it. I downloaded Ronin Solitaire and it is also OK. If Double Games is looking to improve it, work on mouse game play. Dragging cards to the right spot is a drag. I have another solitaire game where a right mouse click sends a card to the foundation. BTW, I never care about the music in these type of games. Always turn it off.

I sure don't want to get lumped in with all the Selfish Sams and Nellie Nay-sayers, but I have to agree with all of them who are getting fed up with the kiddie games, in particular those from DoubleGames. This here Ronin Solitaire bored me to tears and I'm older than Moses! Don't get me wrong, now. When the little drapery-climbers come over I'd much rather let them play on my computer than on my back. (This ol' horse hung up his saddle long ago! LOL.) But it seems to me that all we see here lately are kiddie games. I'm not ungrateful by any stretch of the imagination, but land sakes! - I've got enough bugs and fruit and little mousthachioed fellas to keep the crumb-snatchers busy till the cows come home. I'm crazy about this site and I appreciate everything you guys and gals do, but it's high time we saw a few more diversions for the older folks. We like to have our fun too!
Might I suggest something from the Titties 'N Guns series of games? It would make an old man very happy. Thanking you in advance,

*Gramps*

Hey GOTD, Did we lose all the other developers or what? Not complaining just wondering. I LOVE coming here everyday to see whats new! Also as many others have stated, I too would like to see games geared more toward the adult side.

Anyway, as long as were doing DoubleDay day in and day out and ppl want solitare games how about getting us Mystery Solitaire: Secret Island, now that looks interesting and its compatible for vista!

The game plays smoothly after download on Windows XP. After setting up the first player name, all controls can be accessed from the game board, a feature I find appealing. The cards move easily and snap into place. I had no problems with the RULES screen - there is a scroll bar on the right. The READ ME always suggests closing other applications before installing and I always do that with GGotD games. Try that and reinstall. Perhaps that will help.

I haven't played many solitaire games and find this fascinating. There are four sets of numbers to keep in your head.

1. the deck, dealt three cards at a time
2. 1 column of 13 "wild" cards - all can be seen but only the bottom can be put into play
3. 4 "feeder" columns in descending rolling order must alternate black and red. Cards from the deck and wild column can be played here then moved to their final destination when possible
4. 4 final destination piles - the four suits in ascending rolling order beginning with a random number

Folks who have short attention spans, can't multi task, or just have difficulty sitting still may find it frustrating. Of course some folks just plain don't care for card games. Luckily, GGotD will have another game to try tomorrow :) But I have a traumatic brain injury and a resulting cognitive dysfunction with numbers. It may seem lame to some, but I'm finding the brain exercise in Ronin Solitaire VERY useful. Today was my lucky day. Maybe tomorrow will be yours;)

I believe there is something for everyone here at Game Giveaway of the Day, if only everyone would learn the patience and courtesy of the samurai...

Good morning everyone! ;)

Wonderful! I'll always download another Solitaire game! It activated and installed well and play is absolutely seamless. No bugs that I could determine.

#19 Shy

The instructions screen freezes at the beginning, so you can’t read them all if you dont already know the game.

Hi Shy, (you don't sound shy at all! ;)

I thought this with another game too, but you have to pull the scroll bar down with the mouse. I admit that with the darker background, it's a little hard to realize that.

#20 PLady100

You provided some excellent comments today! And all true!

When will more trendy games be offered? Seems like all GOTD offers is kiddie games.

C'mon Matt,

Yes we've had a week of kiddie games, but this Solitaire game is definitely NOT one of them! As for being 'trendy,' Solitaire is timeless and will always be around.

Ronin Solitaire is more difficult than normal Solitaire and to be honest, I'm not sure how far I'll even get with this game - but I'm enjoying the play. :))

An interesting attempt at an innovative solitaire game. Not quite as good or as challenging as the superior Bushido Solitaire from a few days back. And a lot more confusing, at first, though once you get the hang of it, it's quite easy to play.

Not sure how many Crackdown players frequent GGOTD, but I found it amusing that the music loop contains a sound that is very similar to the low shields warning in the Xbox 360 shooter. About every minute or so, I'd flinch and look for cover!

Oh, to #26, most of the recent games have played fine on Vista - just try them and see if they work. If Vista isn't listed, it may be because the company hasn't tested it on Vista yet and thus won't officially support it there. This game (and every other from the past few weeks) has played fine on 32-bit Vista Ultimate (what I'm running). There have been a few titles of GGOTD that didn't run on Vista (R.I.P. was one), but they've been few and far between.

This is a fine working solitaire game, I did not find any errors with play. The instructions can be read, but you do not just click on an arrow to scroll, you drag the arrows up or down. Thank you GGOTD!

If Double Games is looking for a beta testing team, and the incentive is right they can sign me up. I love to test games! Well I love to test and keep anything. Games, computers, other software, nothing like free stuff! But having this be their testing site si not what GGAOTD is all about me thinks. I'll be back tomorrow! Whoopee!

To scroll the instructions, left click and hold on the arrow on the right of the instructions, then just move your mouse. Not your typical solitaire. It's along the same lines as yesterdays game. I had no problems what so ever in instalation or game play.

My only complaint is that you can't move cards to another discard/holding pile once they are placed even though they follow the rules of opposite suit in descending order. On a 10 scale I'd give it an 8.

A very nice, simple card game offering. However, the criticism of the instruction menu bar has been repeated throughout the double-games recent software give aways. That menu bar today had an arrow on it indicating up and down scrolls, but overall it is confusing and the set up may be unnecessary. The graphics are high quality, and convey the proper asian animation cartoon style well. Game play is good, and nice because it does not have a timer or time penalty system. The click-through on the cards moving to the final stack is good, but the game should give a shuffle warning or show how many shuffles are remaining and/or pop up a small box saying "this shuffle will deduct X points from your score, should you proceed do it yes/no" and "X# of shuffles remaining". Currently that info is in the information menu once and the shuffle key disappears like an award on an action game after it has been used.

AND, I can't figure out how to "cheat" and move partial piles, which is a good thing! Good tight scripting!

A general comment on the double-games software offerings of late--the program also loads two "free games/download more games" icons onto the desktop, as did the past few double-games offerings. The point of this is to sell software, so I clicked into the website to see what was available, and was really surprised to see the quality offerings after the GGOTD offerings from the same company.

There have been some complaints on the juvenile game themes lately, but the icon takes you to real intellectual and interesting grown-up games that require thinking and skill; like agatha christie's death on the nile with poirot, jewel quest II ion an indiana jones theme, and other mystery and grown-up games. Perhaps double-games should add one or two into this GGOTD offering group to show the membership list that they in fact are capable of developing a broad range of games, and that these are very challenging. This would go a long way to stop some negative and unnecesary comments on the non-software aspects of the company.

Thanks for the opportunity to try a new solitare game.

It’s nice to see another card game. This is only the second I’ve seen since the Gamegiveaway started on the 2nd Dec 06, so a big thanks to the GGAotD team and DoubleGames who have given away quite a few great kiddies games over the past week, as well as a few fit for adults such as these card games. Please ignore all the uncalled for remarks. A lot of these people have been spoiled by too many free games. If you look at the statistics a greater majority of downloader’s do like you games. The comments section is rather skewed towards negative comments, but the statistics do say otherwise. Only Intricate Words got less than 50% and then only just.

The game installs without any problems so long as you follow the simple steps in the instructions (for those of you who are new users)

The first screen to be presented allows you to create the first user account, then once activated you have the option of creating other user accounts or proceeding to the main menu page.

There is no options menu, but you’ll find all the usual options at the top right hand corner of the game screen. The advantage of this system, which double games seems to use in most of their games is that the options menu is always accessible right away as opposed to having to come out of the game to for example, turn the music off or put the game into windowed mode, or even turn the game off..

The overall feel of the graphics is bordering on cartoon, with the background looking much like the traditional stylized Japanese drawing/painting we all know (I love it’s ‘intricate ‘simplicity).

There is an information button that takes you to an easily read instructions window that has a scroll button on the top right of the window. If you wish to complete the game at a later time you can save the game by clicking on the menu which can be found below the scoring pane. Click yes to save the game or no to return to the game.

You also have access to the rules from this short menu on the left of the playing field.

Game play is relatively easy once you’ve digested the instructions. It’s not like the previous solitaire game given away (Bushido Solitaire0 and in my opinion much easier to understand and learn to play. This is definitely a keeper for me. As mentioned above, for those complaining of ‘yet another card game’….give it a rest, this is only the second card game to have been given away since the Game Giveaway started on 2nd December 2006.

As for those constantly asking for role playing games, (rpg’s), ‘No way’, they are far too large to even contemplate being given away. (Don’t get me wrong I love rpg’s). At least for the present anyway because the bandwidth to download any decent rpg would clog up the servers and stop many people from being able to download. If you want an r.p.g, go and buy one. I did only last week, purchasing the Shivering Isles expansion for the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion r.p.g game. You can pick up older r.p.g’s such as the Myst series, Wizardry 8 or Might and Magic 1X for example for $10 or less. I got Wizardry 8 for only $7.

With respect to Wilma Sue Gross’s request the other day. The following are some of the solitaire games you can download for free. There are several more, which I haven’t the time to locate the url’s for just yet because I have a mod and several game maps for an FPS game to test. (Mercenaries 10 for Battlefield 2, which has over 200G of free additional maps and mod’s to add to a game that costs less than $20 now). I’ll post those download links as soon as I am able, so keep a look out Wilma:

Golden Dozen solitaire:

Diamond Spiders Solitaire:

http://www.gametop.com/download_free_card/games_spider_solitaire.html

Amber Pyramids solitaire:

http://www.gametop.com/download_free_card/games_pyramid_solitaire.html

Silver Klondike Solitaire:

http://www.gametop.com/download_free_card/games_klondike_solitaire.html

You’ll find over 50 games for free from the site that hosts the above card games including previous commercial games such as the first person shooter hidden and dangerous and the top down car racing games Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft auto II. The price you pay for any of those games is a nag screen once you close the game down which basically takes you to the home page where you can download more games if you wish, or just turn the page off by clicking on the X. There’s no other ad ware, and definitely no malware or viruses, because I’ve been playing the games from that particular site for nearly a year and apart from that nag screen I’ve never had any problems.

The other card games that I have posted details of, about a month ago can be downloaded from a site that was mentioned by someone else yesterday or Friday. The only down side to those games are that you get MeMe an internet search engine that I’ve so far found to be useful because it searches the internet for similar information that you may have been searching for on the internet. This can be disabled using one of the auto start programs that we occasionally get from the sister site Giveaway. In fact I think today’s giveaway can be used to disable MeMe.

I thought this was a neat implementation of a patience game. It was quite soothing to play, and I preferred it to the similar Bushido Solitaire that was the Giveaway recently, because it seemed to me too easy to see immediately with that if the game would come out. The hidden
cards here at least delay that knowledge for a while. Of course, patience games aren't to everyone's taste, and there is too little variation to mean someone would play this for a long time, but for what it is, I think it's well designed, and I was pleased to get it free, so many thanks.

i think GGOTD should consider re-giving away the games which were higly appreciated in the past. i dont think 24 hours and even less than that are enough to fully play and evaluate a game and there is no use to write comments about a game which you know that will not be available in this site again.

GGOTD team has given plenty of games so far and there are only three or four games that i really enjoyed playing. but what is the use to share my experiences on these games if they wont worth anythnig in less than 24 hours, which is not enough to fully understand a game anyway. the same thing goes for GGOD as well.

Thanks GOTD!

Interesting idea on combining a few of our favorite time wasting games. I like it. Sorry I don't have more time to play today.

To all of you who are bored, disappointed and/or just plain RUDE, I'm sure GOTD could use some extra pavement pounders to find all of the games that would please you. Moreover, I'm sure you'd be willing to DONATE (meaning free of charge) all the hours you could to contact these game developers and beg for free games all day everyday. So, after you've given many hours of your precious time soliciting these companies, only to be laughed at, then you are welcome to come back here and whine about the sorry job you've done.

These comments are to be ALL about your opinion of the game play. Not whether or not the type of game pleases you. If it doesn't interest you, move on. If it does, download, play, THEN post your opinions on what you like or dislike about the play of the game. That's all the developers are interested in. When I saw the ratings of this game I thought, wow, this must be a bad game. Only to realize it's not the game that's bad. Just people whining again. 'Ratings' is posted for THE GAME. NOT your spoiled whining. If you want particular games, get off your butt, get a job and buy the game yourself.

D/L, install, and activation went smoothly. The instructions screen freezes at the beginning, so you can't read them all if you dont already know the game. Music and playability are OK. Solitaire is a good fallback game, so our house rates this game 6 out of 10.

A note to DoubleGames or any other developer - SCREENSHOTS! please! or at the very least describe the gameplay! Even the DoubleGames site doesn't have this information, and I'm not going to download a game when I have no idea what the play is like.

From a historical standpoint, the "flavor text" provided here also turns me off... I wonder if DoubleGames really knows anything about Samurai, Ronin, Japan, or anything :/

thanks for the offers, GGOTD, but I'm in with the people who are dying to see something by a different developer. I haven't downloaded a single DoubleGames product yet, and I don't think I will.

GGOTD, I appreciate the free game, but I know that I am not the only one that is beginning to feel like DoubleGames personal testing group. Surely there are quality minded companies out there that are willing to take the mass advertisement in exchange for one descent game. Oh well, thanks for trying GGOTD.
