i don't know whether to give this thumbs up or thumbs down. there's something really annoying about the little guy, but game play is sort of compelling (it's not my first choice to play, but when i do start playing, it's hard to stop for a few levels). i would prefer if the physics of the game were clearer. for example, it's apparently ok to let the robot fall any number of levels, as long as he doesn't fall out of the bottom of the window. also, it seems random where some of the teleporters will send him, so you can't strategize how to complete the level until after you've played through once to see how the teleporter will operate.
installation was fine on my acer aspire one d250, win XP SP3, 1GB RAM. so slow at first that i was writing emails and watching videos while waiting for the game to respond. installed game booster 3 and game play became responsive.
thanks, wheemplay and GGOTD!

I liked the game but also think that only 30 levels is a little short. I had the same issue that #7 had with the comments appearing prior to the actual level being reached. I have a suggestion. How about adding advanced or expert settings so that if you get through the first 30 levels and want to try some more there would be the harder more detailed levels to try. Or perhaps adding additional levels but setting it up so that in order to get to the additional levels you had to unlock them with a more challenging level say every 10th board or so? Thanks for the great games that you give away we really appreciate them. I hope you are doing well Whiterabbit.

I second the request for resolution options (or at the very least a 2x and 3x option for window size). Even better, a full screen option. As it is I use the windows magnifier (Hold WIN key, press + key on the keypad) whenever I try out these Wheemplay games. The game was simple enough to get into, though I would think an improvement can be made in making the first several levels into a separate tutorial set of about 5-10 levels with the onscreen instructions matching the level you're on. The hints it gave me at the beginning of some levels were in fact for the next ones. Then make a set of 30 or more actual puzzle levels.

Re your query from yesterday. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply back. The other two admins have no recollection as to why you were blocked. One has said that you may have commented in such a way that one of our moderators may have done the deed, but there's no way of discovering who.
did you say that one of your comments was removed? if so can you remember what the comment was about? Thank you for any clarification

Having tried rob-rob on my PC I decided I liked it and wanted to put it on my Macbook Pro (10.7.2)...perhaps its just me but after I extracted the rob-rob.app to my Games folder it just won't start (I just get a bouncing gear in the dock). I left it few hours to see if it was an issue with the vendors site being offline, but I still can't get past the bouncing gear. I'd appreciate a bit of help getting this working.
Thanks

@24: The file's been there for at least a couple of days. Just remember that if there's a Mac version, the link will be in the description, and not the main download link. Also, Mac software from GOTD usually don't have a wrapper, so unless specified in the readme, there is no activation.

No problem installing on Win XP but at level 9, it got very slow.
The platform that moves left to right and back, it took 14 seconds to move once I got the robot on it.
At level 11, where I stopped, the platform was taking 16 seconds.

Oh yeah, if you're having problems with the game not starting, updating your Flash isn't going to help. The reason for the game's heft is because it includes its own Flash library, along with other support for the Zinc platform (which isn't used by the game at all). The actual Flash file size is 2.3MB, decompressed.
@Whiterabbit: FYI: Activation is somewhat a myth. Usually, a Setup.exe GOTD wrapper only contains a setup file, and a final message if applicable. Activate.exe contains a custom DLL (usually a registry file parser) and data for the DLL (usually an exported registry file). Setup.exe does not activate anything, unless the developer decided to be creative and merged a custom activation DLL and the installer into Activate.exe. Also note that Activate.exe and Setup.exe has the same base wrapper module. Only the data after the module is different. So to apply that to today's giveaway, the game EXE is merely extracted, and not activated. And heck, there wasn't a setup either. It was just a RAR SFX. That barely counts as a setup. This is just so you know how things work (and that seeing "dual activation and setup module" always make me feel something is inaccurate).

Not bad. Some improvements I would make are:
- Provide a way to control volume rather than just turn it on/off.
- Provide screen resolution options.
- Give some instructions. Although this isn't too hard to figure out, something as simple as a help option on the opening menu that then showed the controls and icons for major game elements like teleporters would be nice.

This game is pretty nice. I've had a chance to try it yesterday, and it ran pretty well, though it gets slower as the levels get more complex. The levels are not bad. They weren't extremely hard, but not overly easy either. The graphics are nice, though the music only seems to play once. The level editor works, but you can't return to it once you start playing the level (so be sure to save the level code before you play). A couple of other bugs include the moves counter, which count key presses instead of actual blocks moved (meaning that if you hold down a key, you can generate dozens of moves in a second), and the hint texts start one too early.
@2: The Flash movie needs a little nudge to get it started. If you can extract the original Flash file (first from the EXE, then from the Wheemplay intro loader), load it up in a standalone Flash projector (http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html), and hit Ctrl-Enter.
A hint: To disable the fan (looks like a jump pad, and carries you to the top metal platform above it), melt all platforms above the fan.
@5: Check out the link in the description. Download and unzip, no activation necessary. Drag the .app into your Applications folder if you want.
@8: And you're playing this because you have nothing else better on your Windows system? Don't try and start a fight.

Ok Win 7 z64 Ultimate. Had a little initial d/l snag. Got Bad Gateway first try (maybe result of having run some disk cleaner?).
Second effort got it. Then when ran the single executable file first time it bombed but ok since then. Unusual for both issues.
Does go fullscreen. Keyboard moves, no jump key so if find self 'trapped' go in a dif direction to solve level. Does seem 30 levels will be shortish even with level editor. Honestly who really uses that?! Can cut off music & sound.
For a time passer 7.5/10.
For a little gray matter stretching make it 8/10.
Thanks guys.

The game itself is good, but the graphics are a bit too wishy-washy for my tastes. I just wish they'd include more levels and a level editor for this sort of game! 50 levels would be great! :)

I had the same problem as ozwriter, maybe. It started with its (probably annoying in the long run) music and I had no idea what to do. So I just started hitting random keys and the left and right arrows seem to move rob-rob left and right and I'm assuming that's all that one needs to use.
Since it's a standard flash game, mac users just move the .app file wherever they want it and click on it to run it. It runs on OS X. I don't know whether it runs on OS 9.

In case it helps anyone having Flash-related problems... [And if today's Wheemplay game won't play you likely have Flash problems that'll show up elsewhere too]
Google/Bing using the terms: "flash about" to get to the Adobe page that lists the current version along with whatever version you have installed. To download the latest version you have to click the link for the Flash home page & then select the download link. While installing Flash in or for your browser, e.g. Internet Explorer, doesn't require a restart, often the installer will run the next time Windows starts, so you may want to re-boot to get that out of the way. Note that if you use a browser or browsers beside Internet Explorer you normally need to visit the Flash site & install or update Flash for each one.
Somewhat often the old version of Flash won't uninstall & the newer version may/may not be present next to it in the C:\Windows \System32\ Macromed folder -- in win7 64 you might have Macromed folders in both System32 & SysWOW64 folders. If you dig down, follow the links on Adobe's site for troubleshooting Flash you'll find an uninstaller you can download, & uninstalling followed by a fresh install usually fixes things.
I've only had this happen twice, but mention it anyway because it took a bit of digging to find the info... The files in the Macromed folder(s) may be protected, so when uninstall doesn't work you can't just manually delete old versions -- Google/Bing on "Xcacls.exe" to both download the app's setup file & find instructions on how to use it to unprotect those files.
Windows registry entries/keys for Flash can also get screwed up so Flash won't work, or installation may abort etc... You can find info on how to fix that, what keys to look for & so on at Adobe's site in the troubleshooting sections -- remember to back up at least the registry before diving in, at the Very least setting a restore point in win7.
Sophisticat [comment #3] mentioned Flash hardware acceleration... as noted it can have *issues*. Hardware acceleration is relatively recent, & still being worked on & improved by both Adobe's developers & those working on the drivers for your graphics hardware -- along with checking to make sure your graphics drivers are current you *might* want to check out Beta versions of drivers &/or Flash when available. Not everyone knows about Beta versions of Flash since you have to Google/Bing or do a bit of hunting on Adobe's site to find them. As far as Pros go, Flash can load up your CPU pretty hard, so graphics hardware acceleration can help both in terms of display & giving the CPU a bit of a break [so for example your laptop doesn't feel like it's going to leave 1st or 2nd degree burns]. OTOH I've read reports of Flash down-clocking ATI graphics while it's running, which bothered those folks trying to do something else at the same time. And as mentioned, it doesn't always work.

BTW, My idea was to make the game mouse controlled. People like me with Carpal Tunnel have a hard time playing keyboard controlled games. Repetitive movement such as right and left arrow operation aggravate the Carpal Tunnel. It isn't nearly as bad with mouse controls.

Installed easily on WIn 7 Home Premium 64.
I do like this just as I have the other Wheemplay games - need a bit of thought and planning to get to the end!
This one has a bits of confusion for me however. It seems to me that a few of the information/explanation bubbles are a level ahead. As I don't have a long memory, this is a bit hard.

Checked my flashplayers on all browsers to make sure and I have it up to date. Re my graphics card, that was way out of date, but is now updated.
Still no luck.

This is a very cute game and I can see myself getting quite addicted to it, I've come across a very strange issue though. Rob-Rob's little messages are showing up too soon, for example, he spoke about the teleporter on the level before the teleporter appeared. I don't know if it has to do with my XP SP2 machine but I thought I'd mention it anyway. It's more of a minor annoyance than anything else.

What you are getting is a False Positive. The file is absollutely fine. tested with Virus Total. You need to set your AV software to accept the game. I don't use norton, so can't tell you exactly how to do that. check the help section or google.
alternatively turn the AV software off temporarily then reinstall

#2, I've had a few flash non-loading problems even though I had the most up to date flash. I've resolved them by unchecking the acceleration - you have to right-click on a flash which does run, to find this setting - and upon reloading the game it's run OK.

Hello ozwriter, you may not have adobe's flash player installed. you can get it from adobes site. just follow the link below:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer.html
If you know you have flash player installed it may need updating, otherwise try changing your screen resolution and as a final suggestion update your graphics drivers. If you're not sure what your graphics chip set is you can find out using the dxdiag command; just type dxdiag into the search field via the Start menu and click return. The Direct X diagnostics pane should open up; click on the display tab and you'll see whether you have a NVIDIA or ATI/AMD chip set - (ATI has been bought out by AMD, so I'm not sure whether it will show as ATI or AMD as I use NVIDIA graphics). There are other graphics chips, but the two I mentioned hold at least 95% + of the market share, so it's likely to be one of those. Once you know which you have, Google the manufacturer and select the driver page. Actually, here are the pages you want. you'll need to know which graphics card you have which can be found under 'device' which is on the left hand side o the pane.
NVIDIA Drivers:

ATI/AMD Drivers:

Alternatively you could use Speccy, a free tool that details all your system specs. It's available from the developer of CCleaner 'Piriform'. You can find the speccy download page via the following link:

Please ignore the gamesgames.com address on all of the images I've posted. I wasn't able to review the game using a demo, so had to use one of the flash games sites to capture the various levels. I may redo them later; depends on whether i have the time. :)
Installation:I've checked today file via virus total and it's as clean as a whistle. If anyone gets a report of a virus they will be getting a false positive. Please don't post your reports here as it will put users off downloading a perfectly good game. check that your AV softwae has been fully updated and ensure it allows the giveaway downloads. The download contains a wrapper that phones home, so can often be tagged as a virus by some AV software, especially when used by a novice who hasn't set the software up. Todays game does not have a virus (and neither has any other game ever given away via this site over the five years since Dec 2006 that it's been running. It needs to phone home to register the game. This can sometimes be read as a virus by some softwares.
In Brief:
RobRob is a flash based puzzle platformer with 30 levels and a levels editor. Graphics are simple but add to the charm of the game.
The game downloads to a 6.67MB zip file that unpacks to a read me with the terms and conditions plus a dual activation and setup module (the orange icon with the key symbol) Click on the module to install and register the game. To those new to the game giveaway project, basically this means that once the game has installed the game is activated. The installed game is 9.25MB in size.
[ul][blockquote]
Main Menu[/blockquote][/ul]
[ul][blockquote]
Level map[/blockquote][/ul]
The game installs directly with no folder just the games executable to the following path by default, but can be changed during the installation wizard. The C drive may be different depending upon if you have more than one hard drive installed and whether your OS is installed to the C drive or a different one like mine (which is the F drive):
C:/Games/
There is no shortcut installed to either the desktop or the start menu/programs list. Also there's no uninstaller. There is no significant registry files installed so to uninstall the game all you need to do is delete the games executable. I would create a specific folder to install the game into. You can create your own shortcut by following the path detailed above and opening the games folder then right clicking on the executable and select the option from the drop down menu that sends a shortcut to the desktop. you can also create one for the start menu programs list if you wish. to do this you need to find the start menu folder that's located for Vista and Win 7 within your profiles folder in the AppData folder (which is a hidden folder), or in XP in the Documents and Settings folder . To find it in Win 7 or vista is a little more complex than it used to be, but it's useful to know if you like to rearrange your programs list, especially if it's become very large. you can find it via the following path. Because it's located within a hidden folder you will need to go to the Control Panel and find folder options, then change folders to not hidden:
Start Menu > Profile Name > AppData > Roaming > Microsoft > Windows > Start Menu > Programs
just a note to newcomers, when the game has been installed you'll get apop up asking if you want a shortcut to the game giveawayoftheday placed in your favorites/bookmarks, this is quite innocuous, howvever beware of the Install software Informer button. The program isn't adware, it's actually quite a useful program that informs you about updates to programs you have installed on your computer, but many users don't like the program, so i tohught it prudent to warn you, just in case you end up accidentally clicking on the button and accidentally installing the program. You can also set up a firefox permatab from this window.

Intro to levels[/blockquote][/ul]
Introduction:
You can play Rob Rob online to check out what the game plays like via several sites. The game starts off extremely easy, so don't let that put you off. Later levels can get a little more complex, so it is worth playing through to at least level 15 to get a feel for the game. I've posted about 16 level images below, which show how the levels get harder and harder. Some of the sites I visited have an annoying pop up after every level, but THIS site
seems safe.

Into to levels[/blockquote][/ul]
[ul][blockquote][/blockquote][/ul]
The Game:
RobRob is a flash based puzzle platformer. The basics of the game involves moving a robot called RobRob using the left and right arrow keys from point A to point B using moving platforms, trapdoors and various colored teleporters and floating devices. There are batteries to collect. The more of these you collect in a level the higher the score. It is possible to complete levels without having collected all of the batteries, but to earn achievements you need to collect all of the batteries. The game is fairly short with only 30 levels included. However there is an easy to use levels editor included that enables you to create your own levels.
If you've never used a levels editor before one way of creating your own levels is to take one of the ready made levels and create a new one from that by adjusting the platforms and adding new ones. It's quite simple to do and can be a rewarding activity that adds lots of replayability to this simple game.

If anyone is interested in sharing their creations please post a comment saying so in this comments section and I'll create a thread over in the forums where you can post download links for your levels. You'll have to upload them to your own cloud based storage or one of the file sharing sites like Fileplanet.

Conclusion:
Although the game only comes with 30 levels the inclusion of a levels editor makes this a worthwhile download in my opinion. Creating levels isn't everyones cup of tea, but for those who can be bothered, the editor adds an almost unlmited scope for creating more complex levels and adds to the fun of this simple yet captivating puzzle platformer. The game for all it's simplicity is worth a good 7.3 out of 10. An ideal game for those few moments your stuck for something else to do. :)
Scoring
Total … 29.5 out of 40 that’s a score of 7.3 out of 10 which equates to a game worth downloading and playing.
Suggestion for the developer:
1) ... Include at least twice as many levels in the non browser version
2) ... Combine this game with several others to make a decent arcade type game. Something with a variety of level types would make this an excellent game well worth purchasing for the price most arcade games go for.
3) ... Package the game so that when it installs it installs with it's own folder rather than having a bare executable installing into the games folder.
Problems installing, activating and running today’s game:
If you are posting requests for help late in the day I would suggest posting in the main giveaway forums in the game Game Discussion . If you’ve installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn’t guaranteed. It’s always worth checking out the free games sites as sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them as well.
If you are looking for something else other than a puzzle game check out the game discussion forums and the free games synopsis. We’ve posted a couple of thousand free games over the last three years, some of which are fantastic. All of the major game distributors such as Steam, Direct 2 Drive (soon to combine with another site), Impulse and GOG all have some sales with savings as good as 75% in some cases. You can check out all of the main distributors deals via the Didematic Site
