Seems like a very basic type of shoot em up game. Grew bored very quickly. I do really enjoy the Master of Defense, Dragon and Gem Ball. This is a very good site to pick up some good games. Would like to see some stragety games along the Age of Empires mode though.

Re: #42 Gar, #44 Thomas:

#49 DVD536 is right. The d3d9.dll error message is because you don't have the Direct X 9.0 listed in the system requirments to run this game. First thing to do is go to manufacturer's web site for your graphics card and make sure it supports Direct X 9.0, older cards and integrated (on-board) graphics don't support it. If the manufactuer's site says your card supports it then go to Microsoft's Direct X download page and update Direct X to 9.0 and the game should run fine.

Re: # 52 Timm Heery:
You need to run the activate.exe file to register the game. Close the game, go back to the zip file downloaded form this site and double-click it. Tell your unzip program to show you the contents instead of running the file or installing. When you see the file activate.exe, make sure your internet connection is open and double-click that file to register the game. Reopen the game to find the full registered version.

Hi GOTD team! ;)

I think it's a great game and as always I'm grateful for the freebies you make available to us. This time though, when I try to record my score, the game somehow takes over my keyboard putting letters entirely where they don't belong - it was the weirdest feeling!

At first I thought it was the creator's joke on us for getting it for free, but then I closed the game down twice and the same thing happened each time - and as you can see, I'm certainly not having any problems with my keyboard here.

Would you please see what the problem might be? *sighs* There goes my GOTD fix! ;)

After installing and activating which seemed to work. When I try to start game I get a warning saying application failed because d3d9.dll
was not found.Tried reinstalling with same results.
I have not had that problem with the other games or software I have dowmloaded from you.I guess I'll try to download it again.

Thanks for The freebies.

Cool game. WhiteRabbit already posted all the particulars so read his post. :)

Really like the sound track, lots of electric guitars. It would be nice if the turret moved instead of just stationary and turning 360 degrees. But then they'd have to add more levels, better graphics and call the game Crimsonland. ;)

Thanks McD for the tweaks, I can't get past level 15 either, before that it's pretty easy. As a purist I hate the whole concept of "game cheats" and "cheat codes" and will have to go back and finish it legit but in the meanwhile I gotta see what's past level 15.

Re: #16 Angela: They had a few Luxor-type games recently, Butterfly Escape and Dragon. Perhaps you had not yet found the site when they offered those? :( Stick around, they will probably get more. If you like Luxor you might like this game too, it has a turning turret shooter so it's like Luxor if Luxor was all about killing stuff. :D

To #32: Happened to me as well after i set higher resolution.
I fixed it by modifying Config.ini file. First i set it back to 800x 600. The game worked OK again. Then i modified it to
width=1024
height=768
No problems after that.

Cheats - goto weapons.ini - make a copy first, then alter all the characteristics of the weapons (go on have some fun - unlimited ammo for start, then play about - I suggest the uzi), can't find a way to get more experinece yet - will keep trying!

I just downloaded RIP and I'm running windows XP.
I didn't even get the chance to open it up and play it.
As soon as I clicked on the icon to play I got an error message stating that RIP has encountered a problem....

I've uninstalled it.

Haha! Rip.zip!!! Get it?? :D

...anyone?

Oh well, hit and miss I suppose.

Anyhow, I thought this game was awesome. I played the "story" mode, which really didn't have any plot except "Beat the bad guys!", though that really didn't matter. The learning curve was gentle, but not so much that they were babying you; I got frustrated enough to work on my tactics, but not give up on the game in disgust.

If there was one thing I didn't like, it was the shortness of the game. I flew through this in about an hour or two, and that includes trying the last level quite a few times (that was a toughie!). That was only on one of the "stories" though, so since there are two more of those as well as differing difficulty levels, I suppose one could squeeze a fair amount of time from it.

The graphics were satisfactory (nothing amazing, but good enough to do the job without distracting you) and I rather liked the background music and sound effects. The controls were intuitive, and the game as a whole was packaged together very well.

All in all, I'd have to give this game a 9 out of 10. It gets one point taken off because it's too damned short!

This is a good, top down, stationary shooter with great graphics. There's a useful tutorial mode for getting to grips with the game controls which are relatively simple. I've only played it on easy so far and it looks like the higher levels are going to be challenging. :) You can also select Medium or Hard modes. The options menu allows you to change the usual parameters like music, sound effects and screen resolution, although for the resolution there are only two settings. 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768, those with higher end monitors may not be pleased about this, but hey, who’s bothered, as, after all it's only a game and the playability is what really counts. I like any type of shooter game so this is a must have for me. Pity the gun emplacement wasn't a mobile gun as it would have made the game play that much more fascinating, but it's still a cool shooter, with a difference.
The eye candy gets better as you collect power ups to improve your weapons killing power. (Which as in any shooting game of this type, you’ll need as the game progresses). There’s an option in the menu that allows you to capture power-ups either by clicking on them directly with the mouse or clicking off the power up. I’m not fully conversant with this as yet though, but I think its self explanatory. ??? ;) The power ups remain on the playing arena for several seconds then fade out. You can still capture them during this fade out period (which is rather fast), but beware as your enemies may overwhelm you if you stray from the targets for more than a few seconds to pick up the power ups.

There are two game modes:

Story mode: Where you have to choose a character which remains throughout the game (from a choice of three). You pass through all the levels with the same character.

Rush mode: This is based on how long you can survive for. For those who love manic games..... You’ll love this one. :D

You have three characters you can choose from, all have different powers that can be useful in aiding your survival. There’s ‘Halloween’ that is able to add a freeze spell to all the ammo that is fired and will freeze any enemy target it hits. He can also cause the enemy to be thrown back a certain distance with each hit. The second character is called ‘Death’ who has virulence which causes a cloud around the emplacement that if the enemy reach will cause extra damage to your opponents as well as invulnerability, which causes a proportion of your enemy’s bullets to miss. The final character is called Rock ‘n’ Roll, which is in reality: D 'the Devil'. His attributes are: Vampire which enables the strength of his bullets to be increased whenever he kills an opponent as well as the burning look which causes extra damage to his opponents.

Whenever a target is destroyed a splatter of blood is left behind. If you find this little gory, (which some may), you can turn this off by selecting flower mode. So whenever an enemy is killed instead of blood a flower is left behind. It’s a similar idea to one of the free mod’s made for the ‘tongue in cheek’ first person shooters 'Serious Sam: The first encounter'

This is an unusual take on a popular shooter genre, which I think I'm going to like. The gun emplacement is situated in the centre of the arena and can be turned a full 360 degrees to cover the whole arena. The game starts to become manic as the game progresses, especially in Rush mode. My son has just finished the last level of Mad Magic and I reckon this will take its place as his present favourite. And now it's the weekend (well in a few ours, lol) he'll get some time to actually get well into it. :)

Thank you Elephant Games and the GGAotD team. This is another great game to add to the multitude of games that have been given away since late last year :D

Hey a suggestion for the GGAotD team. Have you tried approaching Garage games.

http://www.garagegames.com/

They have some great arcade games such as Marble Blast Gold, Chain Reaction and Gish, The latter winning the 2005 best game of the year award for independent game developers. all of which are unusual arcade games. I already have them by the way. I just think all three are brilliant and all come with an editor so that you can make your own levels. There are many fan made levels that can be downloaded from fan sites for all three games.
