In Brief
Rescue Lucy is a point and click, escape the room adventure game. I’ve used my Steam version to play and then based my short review on that version. Despite the mostly negative reviews on Steam (140+ reviews) I would recommend this game to any point and click, mystery, adventure, HOG lover. It’s not a HOG per se but does have HOG elements. The Steam version includes two free DLC packs called ''Rescue Lucy - House Escape DLC #1 and #2''. I cannot say whether these are incorporated into the free standing giveaway version we have been given today? Hopefully the developer will clarify this later.

Edited reference accessed HERE 6th August 2019
The Game:
Rescue Lucy is a point a click puzzle adventure flash game that has been ported over from android games. You have to enter what looks like a broken down mansion in search of your dog Lucy, who had earlier been startled and ran off while you were walking through the woods. To find Lucy you have to search various rooms in the mansion for clues and items that you pick up. You will require these items to escape from each room you enter, either by creating tools, finding keys, or using items to kill monsters that you encounter during your search for Lucy. You’ll find lots of puzzles to solve and monsters to avoid or kill to survive your stay in this creepy mansion. To use an item you go to the inventory and select the item you want to use. Some items will need to be combined before you can use them.
Rescue-Lucy-005

Rescue-Lucy-007
When combining you choose the first item then click on the inward pointing arrows then click on the second item that is required to combine the items together. This will then appear in the action window below the combining arrow icon; for example, the first item you will be required to combine is a screwdriver, which you’ll use to open the front door of the mansion. You’ll find both pieces of the screwdriver, i.e. the handle and the shaft of the driver around the front porch of the mansion. You then enter the inventory and follow the instructions given (via the blue arrows). Once selected return to the main game and use your item, for example once you are inside the mansion, you can choose to go upstairs or attempt to open a door to your right. The door is locked, so search for a key, then go to the inventory to select it. then you can open the door. You’ll often be confronted by monsters (which have excellent skins) and a timer that is counting down, if you stay until the counter reaches zero, and haven’t figured out how to kill the monster, you die and have to start over because you get very little time to react once you encounter these monsters; so, will need to have already prepared yourself by having the appropriate object in your 'active' inventory slot. (Please don’t read the following if you don’t want any hints/spoilers) - The first monster you are likely to meet is upstairs from the main hallway, or through the door on your left if you found the key quickly. To kill either of these monsters you will need to find a spell book, or a coin, (depending which monster you encounter first. Once found these items need to be placed in the 'active' inventory slot below the combining arrows.
The graphics are pretty nice as are the sound effects; though you can tell this is a ported game from android games. Not that it should present any issues.

If you get stuck, you can see a pictorial walk-through guide via Steam guides HERE and several game play videos (spoiler alert) videos HERE, HERE, HERE (Deutsch), HERE, HERE and HERE
Conclusion:
The game was released on Steam just over three years ago HERE; where you’ll find over 90 English reviews (plus another 50 of various languages). The reviews are mainly negative, but to be honest, quite a lot of the negative reviews show limited game play of less than 10 minutes to an hour. I bought this when it was released, and spent about 2 hours playing it and at the time didn’t think it was that bad. I’ve just played a refresher to remind me of the game and would say, the best thing is try it out for yourselves and see what you think. any feedback is welcome. Personally I found it mildly entertaining and worth the price i originally paid for it. .

Whiterabbit-uk, I tried to use the hide/reveal text code for WordPress, but the plugin hasn't been added to the site, so i'm unable to hide the spoiler I posted in my review above. I have given a brief warning in italics and bold just before the spoiler appears. also avoid watching the videos if you don't want any spoilers as all of them do reveal puzzle elements etc..

Well, the game and I just don't seem sympatico. I loved the beautiful opening illustrations and the sound effects. But after arriving at the house, I couldn't manage to escape any room or its 'monster'. Killing these creatures is not my idea of fun, so that's that, I guess.

Couldn't play. While the game is loading it wants to contact the Falco site, which loads a blank page telling me I do not have permission to access the page, then the game shuts down.

jgf, Hi Try right clicking on the games shortcut then select properties and open up the compatibility tab and make sure the admin rights checkbox is checked. Also change the operating system use via the Run this program in compatibility mode for click the drop down menu and select the preceding operating system to the one you are using now, i.e. if you are using Win 10 select Win 8, if you are using win 8.1 select win 7 etc.

It may be your security that is blocking the phone home. Falcoware rely on advertising revenue via their game loader so that they can pay the original developers of the game a cut in the advert revenue.

hope this helps?

p.s. I'd not bothered installing the giveaway version until now as I already had this game via Steam. I just installed it now and it worked perfectly on a Win 10 64 bit system. It also appears to be the same version as the Steam version, but i've still not confirmed whether it includes the two DLC's?

Whiterabbit-uk,

Everything at this end seems to be working (fwiw, an old W7 laptop used for online work and "phone home" games, all my MPC games have no problems). When I try to start the game the loading bar goes about halfway then pauses as the browser is accessed, it opens a new tab to the Falco page, which is a blank white page with an Apache message that i do not have permission to access that page. If I do nothing the page with the Apache error sits there and the game window sits there with the progress bar halfway; close the Falco tab or close the browser and the game window disappears.

Unfortunately this isn't allowed. Falcoware rely on the in game advert and browser redirection to pay the developer of the game so that they can give them away for free. I appreciate your help, but I've had to delete your comment. sorry.

@admin, how can it be not allowed to run a *.exe file on your own computer??

Reply   |   Comment by voorbijganger  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

@administrator , in fact you are telling me that you are giving me a free executable but I am not allowed to execute it...... you must be kidding me...

voorbijganger, Hello,

''Unfortunately this is not allowed'' was referring to the comment you posted. I apologise for not putting my comment in context to your comment (which I'd already deleted when i posted my answer). I assumed you would remember what you had posted and see what I was attempting to explain. I'm definitely not saying you cannot play the game; What I was trying to say was, you cannot post details of how to avoid the Falcoware installer and adverts as well as the browser redirection when you close the game down. I should have added the context as well.

When you install this game you are agreeing to the EULA, which includes playing the game via the Falcoware installer. What you posted is not allowed on this site. If everyone did as you suggested, Falcoware and other free game sites such as MyPlayCity, FreeGamePick, Game Top and others would not be able to pay the developers of the games that have allowed the distributor to give the games away. All these games given away here are not freeware, they are commercial games, that sell at various outlets. The developers allow them to be given away on the proviso that the middleman, i.e Falcoware Games and the others I mentioned above split the money they earn from the adware that is included with this and other games. Every time you boot up the game via the Falcoware platform and others such as MPC games and whenever your browser is opened to their sites, money is earned. If everyone started to play the game minus the adverts, these middlemen would no longer be able to pay the developers who would no longer allow their games to be given away and the distributors such as Falcoware, MPC, Gametop and others would go out of business and we would no longer get free games like we do these days.

I know you meant well, and I was not trying to be funny (in a negative way), condescending or negative towards you. I was only saying what you posted about avoiding the Falcoware installer and browser redirection every time you close the game down was not allowed. Developers can earn a lot more money by giving away their games via sites like Falcoware and MyPlayCity than what they would earn by selling them. Personally I prefer my games without adware and browser re-directions so I usually buy them or avoid them. I only download the games here to write the reviews. Many of the games I've already purchased, so usually avoid the adverts.
