I love this little game :) - it always takes me a while to figure out how to get "Expert" - I'm not satisfied with justr being "Master" ;).
Time management games are my favourites anyway and I hope to see more of those (loved Dragon Keeper as well).
Thanks a bunch.

This was a very nice game. I've not finished it yet but am enjoying trying to get gold medals rather than silver ones. I'm rather fond of time management games as they can be played again and again until the level is mastered. Having to rethink your strategies all the time hopefully keeps the brain active!!

I'm running a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop, Windows Vista Home Edition, 32 bit. The mouse is invisible in full screen mode and the game won't let me run in a window because my resolution is 1024x768. I know my mouse works fine with windowed games and not always well in full screen so that's why I made my suggestion to allow more window resolutions.

Very good game (between Time management game but not as annoying as Dash games and a building or restoring game). It starts with a news special report on devastated areas and give a few clues where to start and then you are transformed into a rescuer receiving humanitarian help once in a while. Make sure to get the bank as it gives extra cash... I really loves that game. Same graphics as Farm Frenzy. Thanks for this giveaway.

I can't wait to play this. It looks similar to the time management game, Roads of Rome, and I've been looking (unsuccessfully) for something similar. Thanks GGOTD!!

Add on to my last review--
I now remember what it was about this game that drove me nuts (played a few levels again)! The falling supplies and popup boxes! Those--NO! They made me crazy and not in a fun way! There are far better ways about going about doing that and making it better. That was a big bad ERK for me and reduced the fun in playing by a large margin and why I never went back and replayed this the way I did some others, such as Island Tribe, Hidden World, Rescue Team, etc.

I purchased this game a long time ago through Wild Tangent. I love, love, love it, and often go back and play through it again, even though I finally got a gold on all levels. There is a whole series of the Rescue Team, and this is my favorite. I think I like it the most because it doesn't make you wait until your worker(s) are back in the building to click your next task. I really dislike the hectic "frenzy" type of TM games, and even though "Frenzy" is in the title, it's not like the "dash" hectic type of TM games. I'm not as young as I used to be, and this one, and really the whole series is right up my alley.

you'll probably enjoy the far Frenzy gsames a swell. they are similar to this one. you can get the first two or three free from Jenkat Games and MyPlayCity.

WOOHOO! A time management game! My favorite!

Onto the review...

Like all Alawar puts out, it's a quality game in terms of graphics and such. The music--turn it off, m'kay? It's bad. The playability is good. It's fairly fast moving and such. As was mentioned before, by more than one, these type are--yeah, it's hard to do something creative and new with them. I think that Alawar and some of the other big names in these kind of games need to take a look at the Adelantado trilogy to get an idea that there is room for improvement here and you can make something very different of them if you think outside this basic format.

This one is the basic format. If you don't like these kind, you're gonna get frustrated. The replayablilty of this one isn't good. Once you've replayed a couple of times you know pretty much how to go about what you need to do then nail it, especially if you're old hat at TM games. I would suggest that you allow us to turn off the tips, especially in the first level. Not only are those that are familiar with this format very capable of figuring out what we need to do, shoot, most that aren't can!, but dealing with that each time you replay makes you roll your eyes.

The graphics are good. We won't talk about music-- The action is good. You can line up tasks, a great thing all TM games need to learn should be basic in all of them. It plays fine on my machine (Win7 whatever the current SP is) with no stall. The idea of rescuing animals was cute. Overall, though, this wasn't one of their better releases (I actually own this one already so... :D ). It's fine for what it is, but there are plenty of ways to improve what's here and the format. And, I agree with an easier way to replay levels and number them. That's all -_- for me as I do that to hit gold. They also need to not dump all you can do on one level. Powerups, ways to help you, whatever, should be added gradually to make it better.

Overall, it's a good solid game. Though it's more fun for those that don't play these kind on a regular basis than it is for those of us that do! That's one area they do need to focus on, honestly.

Thanks again for a great giveaway!

While I wait for the 60 minute download (!!!!) of this game, I thought I would just say that Alawar did not write the Island Tribe series. The developer of that series is Realore. Not sure who wrote this one, although the "Farm Frenzy" and related games are by Melesta and distributed by Alawar.
I hope the game downloads before the time expires to install it.

Thanks GAOTD, you were the company that got me interested in Alawar and their listed games with Farm Frenzy many years ago.

This game refuses to install in my Windows 7, x64. I have tried 5-6 times and every time I get an error message.

>> The archive is either in unknown format or damaged <<

I am used to the computer and used to installing - don't understand why this happens. Previously I have downloaded and installed a number of GAMEGOTD with no problem.

Any solution to this?

.........................Moderator comment..........................

sorry I didn't get to this in time. Did you read the FAQ's section that I linked to in my review? There are a couple of solutions to this problem.

Nice simple game. I am not seeing a way to be more efficient in order to save the animals before their time runs out. Many of the needed resources are out of reach and only become available via air drop in order to reach what you need to do to get more resources.

But that is probably a practice thing. Nice little time waster.

I was about to give this game a try...I normally like Alawar games. Then I saw the "A baby seal was trying to escape an oil tanker..." and "...nuclear power plants have to be destroyed to avoid a horrible disaster." Thanks, but I think I'll skip the leftest propaganda.

Download was no problem (a mere ten minutes on my old DSL connection), installed and runs fine in Vista 32.

Not a great fan of TM games, they're usually a bit too hectic for my tastes, but this one seems fun for at least a couple of run-throughs. Graphics and animation are nice, and time limits, so far, aren't too strict. Haven't played enough to see if this one is guilty of my major complaint with many such games - inability to proceed if you don't "beat the clock" on each level.

Alawar, like Playrix, always turns out a solid product; I've never had any problems installing or running their games.

I've used GOTD often without problems and the odd GameGOTD as well.

However, this installation tried to install "Software Infomer" which I do not want.
As far as I know there was no pre-warning of this so I am not happy!

Right back at you, Stephen!

Two things with the game that need improving -- the first is that there are no names or numbers associated with the levels. Would it be so hard for them to be identified, say the way they are in the Royal Envoy series?

Also, there is no way I can see to easily replay the level if you want to improve your score. And since the levels are named or numbered it's pretty difficult to go back to previous levels and pick one for replay!

Well, the UK medaled on the snow -- from what I understand, a 1st. And congrats to the Canadians, aquaman100 -- we'll have to see how the Wings do Wednesday. ;)

Back on topic, I've really got my fingers crossed no problems with this game after the last couple... still no joy with Alexander the Great towards the end of the game.

Hi Stephen I use cable, is that what you mean? I have trouble with my words sometimes. Yes that does make sense on why it takes so long though. Last week I tried all different times. I believe I let the download start and end in the wee hours of the next day. So, that I could still get the game.
Thank you for your help and this game is not like the other Frenzy games in my humble opinion. I do like it.

Thanks for this offer, but in my case: time management, blowing up stuff, and rescuing baby animals = stress X3, though I see the appeal it would have for others. Besides, I'm still stuck in the desert on the way to Atlantis from last week. Y'all have fun!

Cute little time management game, worth at least a play-through. Thanks. And thanks to the person who posted a tip a few months ago for those having problems with install. Download in Safe Mode with Networking, which is slower than molasses in January but this is the first GOTD or GGOTD I've been able to install in months.

I love this type of game. Alawar thank you so much for giving your games on this site. (The only free trusted site I will use). I have purchased too many to count games from them. Saying that. I can't figure out why the down load time from this site takes so long. Today's time is 2 hours. Last weeks was incredible at 3 hours. And it really did take that long.
I still down load them though because I trust the makers to have a good game.
WHITERABBIT, do you have any ideas to the length of time? I try to d/l early in the day so that I can let the computer take its time.

Also Stephen, can I delete the entire installation folder after the game is installed and running good?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE time managment games. Also, this game looks like the Roads to Rome, Royal Envoy games. I haven't played yet as Im waiting for the down load to finish. Thank you GGATD for always coming thru for us and offering different venues so everyone should be able to find something they like.

..............................Moderator Comment......................

Hi Cindi, the reason it takes so long is because of the bandwidth of the servers that the giveaway team use. there are thousands of people downloading these games and even more downloading the applications. The number downloading at anyone time is quite staggering. If only one person downloaded they would get a pretty quick download (limited by the bandwidth of the server and their own bandwidth). If two people start to download, the speed is reduced, four people even more etc etc. Todays game was quite a large download for an arcade game, so a bottle neck can be creatyed. the best time to download is late in the giveaway, when the demand has reduced significantly.

I downloaded it earlier in just over 7 minutes (60MB connection). what sort of bandwidth do you have?

I have about 150 games at Bigfishgames.com and of those very many are time managers... Having played many of them I they kind of look alike and that there seem only so many variations in general and a lot of recycling of looks from other games seem to be taking place.

Maybe it's been a while since I last played a time management game but in Rescue Frenzy I didn't notice to start with that the start mission were shown on the blue map above I thought that what must be the level indicator below were the mission indicator (I use the word mission where Alawar in this game seem to use the word level).

Anyway , I think that it is nice that the music can be turned off because I generally do not like in game music.

I think that in time time management games it is often a problem that the "resource icons" look too much like each other but at the first mission/level I played then Rescue Frenzy didn't seem to suffer from that.

I would say that it appear as if the time is tight for Gold from the start as there are not that much time to ponder on what is what and what to do next on the very first mission/level before Gold is gone , on the other hand then of course on replay of mission/level when you know what to do then getting Gold on the mission/level then it is very easy to get Gold on the first mission/level , however it would appear as if the game on higher levels most likely is built for time management game fanatics that like to replay missions to get Gold.
Personally I wish that Rescue Frenzy and all other time management had an adventure like mode instead where there were no Bronze , Silver or Gold , so that the games more became resource management games than time management games. Of course my opinion is because I A) Hate if I don't ace it (don't get gold and have to look at it saying Silver or Bronze) , and B) I generally hate the eternal stress of beating the clock all the time...
The game ran without problems on my Windows 7 - 64 bit.

The game didn't really seem to bring anything in terms of game play though some of the graphics seen in other time management games had changed to something else....
But the game does at first hand seem to run without problems and to be nice so I see no reason to why not recommend that people , especially time management game fanatics , gives this game a go :)

This looks like a great time management game. Though I loath time management games. I hope there may be a relaxed mode or other things that may make the game fun to play with out having to defeat a clock and win x amount of resources per minute to win a gold cup for every level.

I think the graphics look pretty good at this time but I am relying upon still images and you tube video's to see what the game play is like. I don't download games blindly I like to know a bit about them first.

Thank you Alawar for another marvelous & free game to play. Thank you Game Give Away Of The Day and give Away Of The Day for giving us all a great web site to come to several times per week to check out what programs and or game's are now available.

I love how many programs and games are readily available to be Downloaded & Installed by the GAOTD Community. So while we test out the newest software let's also not forget all about the Fun Game's that we all get the privilege to try out too.

I always enjoyed Alawar's Island Tribe series. This is a revamped modern version of that game (modern meaning the time period the game is set in.) In fact, I always wondered why they haven't offers Island Tribe 1,2 or 3 here since Island Tribe 4 is already out. It would make a great giveaway for visitors, this site and Alawar since it would be promoting the purchase of 3 others. (Hint hint:-)

This game and Island Tribe starts out slow but after the first 2 or 3 levels it grows on you. It mixes strategy with time management but not like the dash games since you don't have people frowning at you if you don't get everything done quickly. You eventually get multiple helpers so it fun, busy point and click action. It's a fun game and this is coming from someone who primarily plays games that require a gaming computer.

Rescue Frenzy:

alawar

rescue Frenzy 001

Rescue Frenzy downloads to a 189 MB zip file and unpacks to a wrapped setup file, a security file (setup.gcd) and a read me doc with the terms and conditions and instructions

The game installs to the following path by default and is 189he music is pretty dire, MB in size once installed:

C:\Games\RescueFrenzy_game

There is no shortcut installed nor any uninstaller. To delete just delete the installed executable

I’ve not tested it on all of my computers. Most are offline at the moment awaiting various repairs or upgrades. It works on both my Win 7 and Win 8.1 computers.

rescue Frenzy 002

rescue Frenzy 003

The Game:
As a sort-of sequel to the so-so resource management title Rescue Team, Rescue Frenzy takes a more urban approach to time management. Instead of saving an island after a natural disaster, the the new game introduces pump stations, nuclear power plants, large apartments and people as well as animals in danger. The game is very entertaining and unique, in spite of some nagging issues.

Rescue Frenzy features 45 levels in one mode. Those levels can be beaten in expert, master and normal time, so it’s not really possible to fail, and there are no advantages for beating any level quickly. Another mode, a couple of bonus levels or some achievements would have been a nice addition, but as it is the game still offers around five hours of frantic playing time which is decent if not spectacular.

rescue Frenzy 006

What mostly distinguishes Rescue Frenzy from similar titles is its setting. Instead of fantastic, fairytale-like scenes, the game plays in our time, thus featuring rather realistic scenarios and modern buildings. Resources your team needs to get moving include fuel, food, money, materials, metal and medicine. Those are produced at restaurants, hospitals, gas stations, houses and material shops, but can also be recovered from resources and obstacles in the way, or repairing damages on the street.

At the beginning of each level, a TV report displays the current scenario and explains your objectives for that level. The goals in Rescue Frenzy are pretty varied and fit the theme - fire stations have to be rebuilt, pump stations should be repaired to fight floods, citizens and animals have to be saved by removing burning tree trunks and have to be taken to a hospital, and nuclear power plants have to be destroyed to avoid a horrible disaster.

rescue Frenzy 011

The really interesting aspect of Rescue Frenzy is the strategic thinking it requires. It is very clear from the beginning that the developer put a lot of thought into level design, since most of them offer varying challenges. Sometimes you will have to produce metal by delivering money and materials to the foundry to rebuild the fire station, at other times you have to beat a level without a gas station under your control, or you are totally dependent on resources from international aid funds.

It makes a significant difference in which order you construct and upgrade each building, and which goals you fulfill at first. In contrast to other games it is obvious in which ways you could replay any level differently and that certainly increases the motivation to reach expert time in every level. Each building is tied to another building, for example money and materials are required to upgrade other buildings, and most obstacles require food or fuel to be removed or repaired but offer other resources as a reward.

rescue Frenzy 010

The graphics and animations of Rescue Frenzy succeed in creating a convincing atmosphere and setting. The screen is always busy with running and driving workers, people and animals in dangerous situations, burning buildings and obstacles, and regularly appearing resources. This along with the timer and the comments from the tv station add realistic pressure to your tasks.

Apart from all those positive aspects there also some issues. Every feature is right there from the beginning; no buildings, bonuses or other surprises will be introduced later on, which simply decreases a possible feeling of reward when progressing in the game. Furthermore the game severly lacks help and explanations which is also tied to the first issue, since the abundance of buildings, resources and obstacles can really overwhelm even experienced players of similar titles.

rescue Frenzy 019

In the end, fans of this genre will definitely be content with Rescue Frenzy. It is just a pity that the game could have been even better very easily, and as it is newcomers or players who prefer a slower pace will surely have their problems getting into it. However, investing some time to learn the ropes and develop strategies is highly rewarding, not to speak of the feeling of pride when saving whole cities, if only virtually.

You can see a couple of videos of Natalie Brooks: The Treasures of the Lost Kingdom (spoiler alert) HERE, HERE and HERE.

Music:

The music is pretty dire, but standard fare for this type of game. Unfortunately there's no way to changing the music within the game but you can turn it off via the options then play your own music if you prefer music in the background.

System RAM: 128 MB
DirectX: 6.0

Conclusion:

A typical Time Management (T.M.) game with a resource system that’s easy to grasp. You get a decent amount of time to complete levels, (e.g. I took over 6 minutes to complete the first level because I was taking screen captures and writing notes for the review). The graphics are cute and will appeal to children. It’s a fairly challenging game, but not hard to complete, especially if you are familiar with Time Management games. There’s little in the way of a decent tutorial, so, if you’ve not played this type of game before I’d play a trial round just to get used to the game play. There isn’t much in the way of new content introduced as the game progresses; SO, what you see at the beginning is basically what you’ll see throughout the game.

Overall an average game. Will probably appeal to T.M. fanatics.

Score:

Game play – 7.5
Graphics – 7.5
Audio – 6
Re-playability – 7
Originality – 6.5

Total = 6.9 out of 10

Problems:

If you are posting a problem late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums in the game discussion section. If you’ve installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn’t guaranteed). It’s always worth checking out the free games sites as sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them. Gametop, MyPlayCity and FreeGamePick. The game is available free 24/7 from MyPlayCity and Jenkat Games. Please do remember that many of these free game sites will, if you don’t uncheck the check boxes, install toolbars, change your search engine and home page. These changes are reversible, but are an annoyance when they do occur; so long as you are vigilante and make sure you uncheck those boxes, you should be okay. Most of these sites will open up your browser to their web site when you shut the games down, but . Jenkat Games is probably the best place to get these games, though MyPlayCity has the largest catalogue, with over 1000 games. Other sites where you can get free arcade games include Gametop and FreeGamePick.

A Request for helpl>:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen

A "fun Strategy game" with the theme: "devastating storms, catastrophic earthquakes, and disastrous wildfires"?!? I think I´m dreaming...
