For you that are disappointed that there isn't a free game for you to download. Being a system builder, enterprise network engineer and web developer, you really need to find out how much time, work and dedication goes into their craft, only to give it away to you. I can relate to the developers, since I have spent years mastering my craft, and EVERYONE I know has something they want me to do for free. From simple computer repairs to remote access surveillance systems to data center, server and core switch configurations. Appreciate what these skilled, educated and generous folks GIVE you, and understand those developers and the moderators here need to be able to eat and pay their bills too. They've made a HUGE investment in their skill and share it with you, DON'T make them regret the sharing part!

Hi Tung, would you post what you said in todays game giveaway. i agree totally with what you say. Hopefully someone like yourself can give the community a message that makes them think a little instead of complaining about something they are getting free. Thank you for your feedback, it's appreciated.

Tung, I am a technology specialist/educator for a school system, web developer, game developer and cad/3D printing educator and I can certainly relate to what you say here. That said, having also been a commercial illustrator and airbrush fine artist for the last 30+ years (I was an artist first, then moved into tech) I can attest that people seem to want the free stuff from folks in a good many professions (after all, art isn't really work, is it...isn't it just fun?) In the art world, people want things from a quick greeting card, sign, flyer or poster. Once you agree to do their "quick" project, some, not all, become art critics...they know what they want to see (they don't really want your creativity, you should only be rendering exactly the idea that they wanted, but are unable to create themselves) and are sure to let you know what further changes to what you provide them with that they would like to see. I only mention it so that you might take some comfort in the fact that it isn't just tech professions that are plagued with this issue.

There is no game giveaway today, but we do have one tomorrow. The following game (I've not posted a review, just some images and a brief introduction to the game) is one of the giveaway teams new ways for the community to get a free game; but it is limited to 2000 community members. The difference between today's game and the usual game giveaways (apart from the limitation on numbers) is that you get an activation code that enables you to permanently own the game on Steam, i.e. you will be able to install the game on any computer any time you wish, once you've received your key (assuming you win one). All you have to do is click on the buttons, (see the image below). For some of them you will need to have Steam installed and have an account to be able to join the Steam group. You can also get entries by visiting the developers web site and subscribing to a news letter. You don't have to click on everything, but the fewer you click on the fewer chances you will have to win a key.
giveaway
I've already entered the competition and got 13 entires for posting on Twitter, joining the Steam group etc. As I have already purchased the game on Steam, if I win a copy I will be giving it away to someone who didn't win a copy.
"RabieZ-Epidemic" is a simulaton of a zombie apocalypse where several dozen "lucky ones" managed to escape from the city affected by the epidemic. An island on the lake became the new shelter for survivors, which was distant from the epicenter of the infection. Unfortunately, a couple of people in your group, who tested positive earlier, began to turn into zombies.

Brought to you by the developer of 'AI: Rampage' - the well-received robot apocalypse survival game! You can see several mini reviews of the game, which are mainly positive HERE

Extra information:
If Rabiez: Epidemic doesn't appeal I've updated the 'Weekly Round-up of Game Deals last night to include the latest games and indie game bundles. There's an Activision developers sale on at the moment over on Steam, with up to 80% off their games. plus there's also over 600 other games on sale. You can find the new thread (which I've posted in the sticky section of the game discussion forums to make it easier to find if you are perusing the game discussion forums) HERE.
The latest free game over on Origin is still the excellent FPS game Medal of Honor Pacific Assault. It's a little dated compared to the latest FPS games, but is still a great game with excellent graphics. It was released around 2005 so should easily play on most computers of today. You'll find details of that game and how to get it in the Weekly Round-up of Game Deals which I've linked to above.

Steam wont play the game for me after I downloaded it, it doesnt say anything, just wont do anytjing no matter what option I do when starting it.

...................Moderator Comment........................

Hi Joseph, Steam is just the client and a place to keep your steam library together. It may be something else that is stopping your game from playing. Try going into the Steam Apps folder, inside that is the Common folder. You should find the games folder inside there. Open up the games folder and find the games executable and see if you can start it from there. You may still require Steam to be logged in first. If that doesn't work, check the event viewer and searcth through the recent logs for any error messages related to the game. Also right click on the games exe file and select properties then select compatibility from the tabs. Mess around with the choices there, also make sure the Run the Program as Administrator is checked. Finally, try right clicking on the game in your Steam library and selecting properties. A Steam window will open . Select the Local files tab and click on the verify integrity of the game cache. Hopefully one of those fixes should sort the problem out. Failing those, check the Steam forums. They list most games in the forum, so find the appropriate game and see if anyone lese has had the same problem. You can also check any reviews that the community have posted about the game by going to the Store page and next to where you see images of the game to the right there is a hyperlink that says user reviews. At this time there are 12 reviews, mainly positive, but you may find some infor there. The game is actually the cheapest game I've ever seen on Steam at only £0.39, though it does have 75% off at the moment. :)

ive won the game now how do i download it lol

...................Moderator Comment........................

Hi Simon, you will need to install Steam. Go to the Steam page via Goole. You should find a download link. Once installed you will need to create a Steam account. Once registered you can input the code you got by clicking on Games, which is found at the top of the client next to Friends. From the drop down menu click on Activate a Product on Steam. This opens a window. follow the prompts and copy your code. Now the game is tied to your Steam account forever and you can install the game to any computer anywhere in the world so long as you can prove it is you via a couple of verification steps. :)

................................Moderator Comment.................................

Hi Victor, yes there is. Sadly we can't get games every week. Those other free game sites to have hidden easter eggs, most of which are negative. Technically they aren't free becasue those sites pay each developer for the games. They earn cash everytime your browser is directed to their sites, usually when you play the game and close it down, plus those that forget to uncheck the boxes get toolbars, home page changes and browser changes occuring. At least with the game giveaway site you can guarantee the downloads are free from all of that stuff. I do think the giveaway team give a small retainer for each game given away here, but it is minimal

This idea to win a game, is really ridiculous!
The idiot that thought of this crap, should be fired!
The next thing they'll want to do is change the name of the site!
There once was this great site called "Give Away Of The Day"
Now some jerk wants to call it "Take Away Of The Day"

The only reason for this is because Valve (the owners of Steam) will only usually give a specific number of keys away. The game giveaway community numbers in the tens of thousands (I think the largest number of downloads for one game was over 40 000). For a developer to give away so many keys that will be permanently tied to that account holder means a massive loss of revenue. The normal giveaways will last only as long as your computer is running, or until you upgrade your operating system, at least that's the way it's supposed to be.

Unfortunately the giveaway team cannot secure free games all the time. (and personally I believe all the whiging that has been going on over the past few months is scaring away our regulars). Recently it has become increasinly difficult to get those free games, so they have resorted to other means. We will still get free games when they can get them. Surely this new way of getting games is better than not getting any games at all? At least some community members will get a game and those games are actually better than the usual game giveaways because they are permanently tied to your Steam account (assuming you are a community member that is happy to install Steam)
.

I received an e-mail this morning advertising that Amigdala was the game give-away for today, April 23rd. I right-clicked on the link and ended up on this page. I right-clicked on the Amigdala title and got to a page for it, but it said that it was given away on April 23rd, 2016 and that it was EXPIRED! It is now 12:30 Mountain time on April 23rd. WHY IS THIS GAME EXPIRED??????

Jackson Andersen, -- Yep! I checked in at beginning-of-day and saw Amigdala as the game for the day, but came back now for more info and found the game gone! Too bad, 'cause it looked interesting. It did require Win 7, 64-bit, so many members couldn't get it, but still .....

What happened, GGOTD?

These guys and girls do amazing work to bring us free software and games is it really so much to ask just for you to share it with you friends, does it cost you anything? Stop moaning about this site and enjoy the content.

To all those people moaning about 'this isn't free I have to do something' here's an idea, YOU write a game then submit it to GOTD. Don't ask for any reviews or offer free keys in return for a review just do all the work of developing a game then just give it away.

Thanks.

Sad that free games are no longer available as often. I realize systems change and I appreciate what GOTD has done over the years but I'm not interested in playing the free license lotteries. I don't have the patience to play along and I guess it's not that important to me. I buy my share of games so it's not like I feel entitled to free entertainment but 'game giveaway' has been a game giveaway until recently and that always seemed to have worked OK. I'm sure the process would not have changed without good reason. I'll be moving on as this is no longer something I want to participate in. Cheers... James

If Steam would ever install itself correctly with no issues, I'd be all over this one.
See you tomorrow!

....................................Moderator Comment....................................

Hi SirPaul. what issues do you have with Steam? I been using the client since January 2009 and, apart from the occassionl freeze when perusing the store I haven't had any issues with Steam. One of the things I like about Steam apart from the fantastic sales is the ability to keep all of my games updated. I have so many purchased via Steam (over 7500), that it would be nigh on impossible for me to keep track of them all manually. One tick of a checkbox and all of my games are kept updated. There's also the market, where I've earned around £1400 selling Steam trading cards which you get free when you play games that have trading cards available, plus items from various Valve games such as TF2 hats. I got almost £40 just for one CS:GO pass that only cost me £2.99 Then there's the social side of the client. I've made some good friends via Steam.

Please do let me know what issues you have been having. Maybe I can help? :)

Reply   |   Comment by sirpaul2  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

sirpaul2, I have to agree with WR, My son and both me and my wife have steam accounts and have never had any problems. I don't play as many games as I use to as I tend to be out riding my motorcycle when the chance arises.
But my son has downloaded and bought hundreds if not more games from steam. The wife has also bought many games as well and neither of them have ever had any complaints. So maybe the problem is your end either your internet is to slow or there might be a glitch with your computer. But steam is an awesome gateway to many great games and deals so I hope that you can find your problem as you are missing out on many great deals.
I would also like to make a comment that backs a comment made by Dave. For those of you that don't like this type of giveaway because you have to actually do something like click a few keys then instead of shooting down this GOTD just move on. I think it's great we can come here each and every day and for the most part get a free game or program but sometimes they ask that you do a few things to get your item or if you want the game they make it like bingo and you have to play along and if you should be lucky enough to win the game then you can yell bingo and you will also be a lot happier because you were one of the lucky ones.
If GOTD wasn't here none of us would ever get any free games or software. So if you don't have the time or you figure it's to much work to do a few things that take all of 5 minutes of your time to take a chance to win a game then go buy it. I'm sure that 5 minutes of your time is much more valuable than the people that wrote and programmed this game so 30 or 50 bucks or more is dust in the wind to someone that 5 minutes is to much to ask to play along and try and win a license.
Thanks GOTD not my type of game but will mention it to my son as this is right up his ally.

Thank you for your comment Wolf. I miss motorcycling a lot. Since my accident 10 years ago, I've not been able to ride. If I can reduce my opiate intake I'm considering getting a motorcycle trike. Always fancided one. :) You are absolutely right w.r.t. getting free games.

Thank you, WR, for keeping this forum active as developers expand their markets to other devices. Understandably, that probably means that fewer new game options will come to computer users on this forum.

I am already pretty choosy in what I might download, so the marketing angle of developers reduces my choices too. I love that I can still find treasure here every once in a while. Keep up the good work. You and your efforts are certainly not under appreciated! Best!

Nice, I like these top down/strategy type games and being on Steam is a bonus. You keep those as long as Steam exist regardless of how many time your computer blows up on you. There's plenty enough keys in this giveaway too which means a good portion of the people who enter will get a key. Crossing my fingers for another win! :)

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the definition of "free" seems to have been thrown out the window here?

Why the change from a straight giveaway for everyone to this format where you have to complete tasks and then HOPE you are fortunate enough to be blessed with one of 2000 licenses?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the giveaways, but having to complete tasks for a limited number of opportunities just doesn't qualify as "free".

....................................Moderator Comment....................................

The giveaway team have managed to secure a different source of games, but these are limited resources, so not everyone can have them. The game giveaway site has just branched out a little to give community members an opportunity to get activation codes that will allow them to get a game with no restrictions. We still get game giveaways when developers give them to us.

There will be a free game tomorrow for everyone. Please remember that we rely on the kindness of developers to give us the games we get. If we didn't have todays offering, there wouldn't be a game at all, so at least those that are really bothered can try and win a free code. As there are 2000 of them, everyone will stand a very good chance of getting one with just a little effort.
