well, i for one was one of those hoping it would come around again...
i had to re-load my puter after a bad crash and hoped this would come around again.
downloaded it, played one game to level 15, the damn thing won;t run since.
i even re-installed it with the GAOTD installer, after cleaning it from the registry...
same thing.
i love the game...bummed it doesn;t work on my machine.

I guess it was fun. Repetitive and mind numbing, but at least it has blood and guts and mayhem.

It was good for an hour for me. My grandson (who I sometimes play Doom 3 with) seemed to think it was pretty funny. He lost interest faster than I did.

I'll probably keep it installed for now, as I sometimes like my mind a little numb. I'll bet this is funny as heck while drinking beer!

I agree with TauCeti, though. I use both a sandbox and a registry monitor that can edit or rip out unnecesary registry changes, and I've kept a number of games running after unnecesary registry change stuff was removed. I;ve even upgraded upgradable programs from here using this technique, and removed the license limitations. All legal, as the registry certainly belongs to me and not the publishers, despite what they may think.

I also agree that many of these downloads on GOTD and GGOTD are a tad too intrusive, systemwise.

What can happen is that as you install and uninstall many of these games and utilities they leave residue that can kludge up your computer. Many create problems when dll's (libraries of commands and drivers used not only by an individual program but also frequently by the system) are altered, or when removal causes what is called a "race condition" where one thread of a driver or library fights another for important system resources when they are not unloaded correctly. This is probably the number one cause of the infamous blue screen of death, greater than virus damage.

Just be aware that it can happen, and pick and chose your downloads to the ones you really want.

Many of us who test regularly use a sandbox of some sort for testing, so we are in little danger of that happening to us. In fact, sandbox testing is one of the ways I search for registry changes to block/remove/alter if I decide to _really_ install a program. (hint to the junior hackers out there)

I would prefer repeats to no games, as there are some that I have missed. Thank you, you will not find me grumbling about this site. I appreciate the opportunity to download the games that I wish. This is an awesome site.

The previous giveaway of RIP was version 1.0.9, this is version 1.1.0. The website doesn't give a history as to what, if anything, was changed between versions.

Vista fix:

The problem is in the audio library that the game uses (Audiere). The one in the game is too old. Download the latest version of Audiere from here:

http://audiere.sourceforge.net/download.php

Open the zip, go to the "bin" folder, and copy audiere.dll to the RIP folder where you installed the game. Overwrite the old file.

I downloaded my first game from this site on 4/11/07, so I appreciate some of these repeats. Not all of them are games that I want, but if there were problems with the build that was offered the first time, and the build was improved for this second offer, then why on earth would anyone object unless they were just supremely selfish people who don't understand the community aspect of this site?

The sense of entitlement I intuit from some of the posters here is simply stunning in its arrogance and narcissism. I feel that most enjoy the varied offerings and while no one wants each game, most have the good grace to appreciate what this site does.

If there is difficulty in procuring new titles for this site, then surely it is a byproduct of the intense screaming of the negative vocal minority. No wonder there are repeats.

@ TAPASH NATH - I have found that deactivating Data Execution Prevention for the free games usually makes them work in Vista. Other attempts have found that running the application as Administrator works.

Also, to you repeat-haters: stop. I have friends that don't have access to the awesome games until the time has run out. Running the giveaway again gives them the opportunity to get it the second time. Most of them have added GGotD to their RSS readers and get the info in time to download and install. A few of these I have installed on my old computer (which my daughter uses now) and would like them for my new machine. Repeats are PERFECTLY acceptable. So stop looking the proverbial gift horse in the mouth!

The previous offering here was "RIP Strike Back". This is slightly different but still lots of shoot-em-up and blowin'up fun. Love the flower mode where I can kill 'em with Peace and Love like in the '60's. It would be funny if the descriptions of the weapons followed that too.

Glad to have you back GGotD.

Plenty of people here who should know better...Especially #24. No the registry is NOT for software developers to dump crap into. If you look at all the portable apps out there (including games!) you will see that a registry is not needed at all! Developers use the registry with protected keys to monitor when the trial time is up as well as log program info so it is safe from the typical computer interloper. You may think you know the keys but unless you can monitor all the protected keys you will be in the dark. As far as junk left behind I have uninstalled 7 apps from here & 4 left junk behind with 2 leaving entries in the context or right click menu.

Just what we need more blood and guts. My hats off to the guys for not being pressured by a few people that don't like this type of game.
If I can't shoot it, bomb it blow it up or kill it with some type of virus or infection than why play it? So if you don't like this type of game, then go play with the farmer game from yesterday. Just don't tell me why I shouldn't play it!!!!

What an entertaining little game. Addictive, good graphics, various gameplay options and some nice power-ups and skill level add-ons. I played it for a good hour after I downloaded it, and I can't say that for some software I've gone out and bought in the past. Highly Recommended.

... and for those who are commenting about it being a repeat download, I do have sympathy for you, but as someone who only found this site yesterday, I for one, am grateful.

... and also, for those of you complaining about it being a violent game - the only thing I found offensive was that you could turn the blood off and have your 'kills' turn into flowers instead ... but then, I am a long time hayfever sufferer. Achoo .... ;p

TAPASH NATH (No.8) & Bobo (No.30)
You're probably better off switching back to XP for at least the next twelve to eighteen months. There are very few programs that run on Vista yet as it's too different. It's like when Windows '95 came out and we all still had Windows 3.11. The difference is too radical.

Typical Shot-em-up. I've played many games like this. Maybe you will like to play it for 1 hour, but not longer. It's too boring.
P.S. If you use vista only for DX10 and it's nice gui and you want to play games posted here, go install xp. (and have both XP and Vista)

Unacceptable level of violence? Yeah, with people reaching new heights of cruelty and depravity in the rest of the world, we should be raising the biggest wusses in the world. NOT.

GOTD should only post Vista compatable games and programs? We havea lot of "wave runners" out there, who raced off to the public beta release of the next OS and think we should all follow or wipe-out. If you were simple enough to upgrade to Vista, bite the other 98% of us.

TauCeti, activation and registration don't damage your registry. While software installations certainly can and do damage your registry, the games generally don't (and I do track the changes). There's always some risk of file (common component) damage, but that's possible even when installing Microsoft applications.

Hi all!!

Great game, thx!! Regarding comment #8., NOOOOOOO!!! Please, stick with non-vista games. Considering the percentage of people who HAVE ista and those who don't, I'd say Vista is a novelty at the moment. And I suspect it will continue to be a novelty until they smarten their acts up and fix the bugs, incompatibility issues and hardware conflicts. For now, I would go out on a limb and say that if you changed the games to Vista compatible games, you would probably lose the majority of your clients, as they have not and perhaps even don't intend to change to Vista.

Anyway, thx for 2 great sites!!! It's like Christmas. And btw, just like at Christmas, you don't always get what you want, and sometimes you get stuff you already have. Does that mean you're going to be rude to the people that gave you the gift??? Or are you going to smaile, say thank you, and remember the IDEA behind the gift?? I'd say there are a few sniveling, spoiled brats here who wouldn't get ANYTHING from me!!!!! Why bother?? Nothing will ever make them happy, anyway!!

Not playing such games as a way to blow off steam is what causes more death and mayhem in the real world, you fake hippie... now go get a haircut and a job.

I like this game...it's fun and the flower mode is pretty funny too.
TauCeti - YOU ARE TALKING NONSENSE!
The games companies dumping all sorts in your registry??
You obviously know NOTHING about what the registry is for!
Yes the GOTD installers DO place registry entries and I have looked at them all...why you have any kind of problem with the using of the registry for software to 'register' itself and store it's info, is very mysterious!
Wait a minute, do you think that only the OS is supposed to use the registry or something??
I could see your point if the installers messed with the autostart areas of the registry and enabled programs to run on startup. Or if they messed with settings of other programs or windows - BUT THEY DON'T.
Your comment is nothing but junk. You will needlessly scare some people into not downloading the game because they think you know what you are talking about with your very ill-informed scaremongering.
Please, until you understand the very basics, keep your opinions to yourself.

Activated OK - tried it on Machine 1 (XP Pro) just blew up with the familiar "contact Microsoft" no other error - so US on this machine .. deleted and tried again - same problem.
Loaded it onto second machine (XP Home)again activated fine - seemed to work fine - got to level 3 and machine rebooted itself .... shame really - looked like one of those mind numbing games I use to relax with.

Guess I might as well delete.

For those of you who like trials-demos but don't like the time restriction then download trial-resetter 3.0 (google that name). It does not 'crack' programs but simply removes the keys that the program uses to access your registry...We all want to keep the crud out of the registry & trial-resetter does that. It is actually classified as a registry cleaner. side benefit is that your time limit on a demo will be reset...infinite demo-trial! Nothing morally wrong here as you have every right to limit registry access...The program is never touched. Takes some time to get used to it & set up as it is not totally auto. But it is free......

I would suggest that one should be careful & picky about what one downloads here. These activation & registration apps dump alot of crap into the registry. Day to day software collection turns the registry into a domino game...fine if there is no problem but if one of those threads gets corrupt you could be looking at the blue screen of death. There are alot of freeware games out there that match or beat anything here...you just have to dig a little to find them as they are not advertised. Todays offering looks OK but not tempting enough for me to allow this site & that game company to manipulate my registry.

No matter what5 compatability I set it for it locks up at the beginning of loading and needs to be rebooted through the power button.
I'm sure I got this going on Vista last time it was put up. But it's refusing to load at ANY setting, and crashing my comp.

Total mayhem. I dont even dare to try it in real time on a a4 paper.

This is a cool little game. Lots of action, fun, and simple to play. If it's a repeat to some, it isn't to others, like me, who are fairly new to the GGOTD and GOTD sites. It is also a good action game for those with slow/dialup connections, as it is a very small file to download.

Very nice!

With suggestion to #7, you can try and add some indie games here just like garage games. You can find most of them on game engines website.

Honestly, don't know about others, but I believe putting some old cool games would be fine. I would also be fine with some cool free games. I have played a few. There are a lot of free games. But no one has time to browse through these.

But hey, just my suggestion, ofcourse everyone will not agree with it.
