Crashed the computer twice so far.

First time was freeing the photo puzzle. Removing the third obstruction pc froze for a few seconds and then crashed. The crash was so bad it went to blank screen and then emergency reboot. Second time through it did not crash.

Second crash was the piano puzzle. While pressing the keys it froze and hard crashed again.

It might have been the download. It took over 8 hours and had to be restarted often. Thankfully Firefox has a resume feature. Frustrating on a 130 MB fiber to the home connection.

Win 10, AMD A8, 6 GB, lots of free HDD, Avast with PUP turned off

Hope that helps. Thank You for the game.

Running Win10/64 on two devices. When I obtained the ticket in the railway station and the (second) train arrives during a thunderstorm, the game crashes on my desktop pc (with AMD CPU and NVIDIA GPU)and on my tablet (Intel atom intel graphics) too. I'll try to download it again from http://www.myplaycity.com/psycho_train/, because it is always free ("This game is brought to you by our sponsors. It is always free. NO TIME LIMITS!").

Got no more crashes the last few days since I installed the version without themida-obfuscater :)

Hi Hans

Thanks for your feedback. Once the game has been installed, the Themida wrapper is no longer involved and can be deleted along with the rest of the game giveaway download.

I was happy that this game was offered for free because I love the hidden object and puzzle genre.

Although I had difficulties to download the game at first due to the antivirus software, I managed to downloaded it via 'Safe Mode with Networking'.

In Psycho Train, you follow a protagonist who at first I gender assumed to be a male is actually a female, in a journey to find her daughter kidnapped by the psycho villain after a train crash.

What I like about the game -
- A good combination of easy to medium puzzles and hidden object games
- Great storytelling
- Creepy atmosphere
- Great graphics and environment
- Interesting cut scenes
- Long game-play worth the price
- Logical puzzle

What I dislike about the game and improvements -
- Simple puzzles. It can be made a little more harder.
- Hidden objects. You can add more hidden objects in the game.
- Generous amount of hints. I admit that I played the game in regular mode but I think that there were just too many hints. Since the protagonist has already given some clue, I don't think the shimmering is needed. It made the game way too easy.
- Ending. The ending could be made more interesting by giving some puzzle or hidden objects game.
- Timer. For those who wants some challenge, this game could allow a setting to find the hidden objects within the time. But for me, I love the casual approach of this game because it doesn't make me feel stress.

Hi Torque

Thank you for your excellent feedback. Check out the list of Steam games. I think you qualify for one, or two (if you choose one of the low priced ones). Let me know via the thread I've linked to at the end of my review and I'll email you the code. regards Whiterabbit

For those that did manage to get this installed and working properly and your stuck somwhere; there is a walkthrough over at "You Tube"; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_2Ph6GR7u4. Not the most conventional walkthrough, but better than nothing. You'll have to do a little research to find all the parts.

Thanks for the link Jon. There's also an excellent series of 11 you tube videos that I linked to in the review, the first one can be found HERE. The other 10 are linked via the panel next to the first video.

I downloaded this game last night and tried to install it for several hours last night and again all day today. It says it has activated the the game but when I close that message, I have to go through it all over again. I even crap cleaned my laptop and downloaded it again but still could not install it. The night before......different game same problem. So over 2 nights I have downloaded 2.2 gigs and got one ounce of satisfaction. I posted on the GGOTD Facebook timeline but I got no joy there either.
I have to say I am totally disappointed would be an understatement.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Lorraine

Did you check the FAQ's thread or read any of the replies I made to others having problems? Virtually everyone's computers will be set up differently, and it is more than likely that it would be something on your computer (usually your security) or the way you have it set up, that is stopping the giveaways from installing. . Thousands of community members have no problems installing the game, but, because of the wrapper which contains a Themida based security code, some security software will block the installation. This is the most likely scenario that has happened to you.
The giveaway team have been giving games away virtually every weekend for the past ten years and have never given a file away that was infected. Unfortunately Themida wrappers can also be used to hide malware, so some security software will automatically block the installation as a precaution.
The game was definitely worth downloading, so I would suggest you download the MyPlayCity version, which is basically the same game. The only difference is the check boxes that you get when you first install the game and possibly an advert at the beginning of the games start up. So long as you uncheck those, everything should be hunky dory. You may get an advert showing whenever you boot up the game, usually for one of the online games they have available, but as soon as the game starts, it's exactly the same as the giveaway version. I've posted a link to the MyPlayCity version in my review above.

Hi,
It is the longest download I've ever had, but from glancing through reviews, it may be a very long game!
It took a few minutes to open. The graphics are very good and play is smooth. One activity or find follows another. The hidden items are pretty easy to find. I did get stuck as the only hint is where to go, but that doesn't really help! I have played a fairy long time and enjoyed it. Would like more interaction perhaps.
Thank you for another great game and have a good week, Lee

I'm running Win 7 Pro x64. Yes, it's a big download; it took over 20 minutes for me, but I don't see that as a big deal. It installed flawlessly and seems to be registered to me okay. So far, the graphics look great. I think this will be fun. Thanks very much, GAOTD and MyPlayCity!

I want to put this on a couple machines in the house, so since it's taking forever to d/l, once I get it can I put it on a flash drive to transfer the zip over to the other machine and get it installed and activated before the expiry and still have it work or do I have to physically d/. in on that machine too?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Jon, sorry I didn't get back to you until the giveaway was over. Was dealing with my kids school run when I got up. As for your question, yes you can do that. Thankfully, you can also copy over the installed games folder onto a flash drive and copy it to other computers. You will have to create a new shortcut, but I assume you know how to do that. :)

Thanks gotd and MyPlayCity for the great game. Really like the clear hidden object scenes. Other games are so dark.

Anyone else having problems where the combination lock and floor safe dials will not turn? I running Win10 but also have tried all compatibility settings with no luck. I also don't see any way to skip them. Thanks for any suggestions.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

I can't judge how far I'd got with respect to time because I also spent a lot of time taking screen captures (around 150 or so), but I did get out of the train and into the second area of the station where there was a strange head with movable eyes. If you are referring to the combination lock , you have to find the code which I think is hidden behind the dirty glass door. You have to find something to clean the glass to find the combination. All the codes will be found elsewhere. You may find some clues in the images I've posted in my photobucket slideshow. I've also posted a link to a video walk through, that leads on to another 10 that cover the whole game. You could check those out.. (

Thanks for your help. I figured out my problem. You have to physically click on the code on the window to get the code into your diary book. I just wrote the code down before. The dials are locked until the code is present in the diary book. Thanks again for your help. MARVELOUS game.

Ok Windows 10 x64 Pro. Boy this one is really slick, polished, well done!. Like the graphics, music, tone, sense of engagement, and the puzzle flow so far. Two options for easy & advanced as to when Hint reloads. Get this one if a fan of HOG that is clever indeed. I was beginning to wonder what would become of this genre but what it needs/needed is a well crafted theme. Don't want any spollers. Just broke away from game to drop in this bit.
Maybe moderator should go lighter on the sheer number of posted images from game. I closed eyes after a few to avoid getting overloaded. as soon as decided this is download worthy.
Thanks GOTD for a really good one. Doubt I'd have stumbled upon this at the online site. Thin pickings for me there so ignore it. Happy pre Val's Day (must be one soon in some time zone).

Downloaded, installed, and activated with no issues on a laptop running 64-bit Windows 10 build 14393.726.

It is not very often that you will find me downloading a game from GOTD. I'm not sure if it was the dark and creepy look of it, but I decided to try it. I did like the fact that Psycho Train wasn't just a HOG game, it has a some great elements of puzzle solving to.

When I first started the game, I was kind of worried about the 4:3 screen ratio, but after unchecking the "Aspect Ratio", I was concerned that the scale and proportion would maybe off, but the game looked and played just fine even in the 16:9 screen ratio.

The artwork looked great even on a smaller 1366 x 768 screen. The game sounds and effects created a very eerie atmosphere.

Because I have only have had a short amount of time to play this game, I've made it to the train station and have just assembled the telephone so far. I'm not really sure how long the entire game will be, but so far, I am having a lot of fun playing it.

Thank you GOTD Team, myplaycity.com, Alawar and Viva Media for today's giveaway. I will definitely be keeping Psycho Train.

Took about 5 hours to download. Cox "high-speed" internet. But I installed it with no problems (Windows 10) and played the first chapter (until I got out of the train) with no problems. Decent gameplay. In the first area there were not so many places to go and inventory items at a time that figuring out what to do next was challenging/annoying. (Not too much running back and forth, but some.) Hidden object scenes were not too difficult, although a couple of items were tricky just b/c they were in a shaded area in the scene. I didn't need to use any hints, though.

Hi, WR! I guess it's rather late, but I thought posting might still help someone...
I'm using a WinXP SP3 system, and it usually cannot handle the installation when the files are so big as this one is -- but most times the solution is to boot into "Safe Mode with Network" after downloading the file, and then it installs fine. I remember someone suggesting this solution for a previous large game file, and it usually has worked for me -- like this time.

Took almost 3 hours to download over DSL. Once unzipped, when I clicked on setup, I got the normal activating popup with the key icon and then the completed activation box that links to the GG activated page when closed but the actual game installation never opened up. I deleted the extracted folder, unzipped the archive again and tried but the same things happened.

The game has Psycho in the title which is intriguing in itself but then there is Train, and I love trains! On top of those, Whiterabbit-uk rates it a 9 out of 10! So suffice it to say, I would like the game.

Thinking (hoping!) perhaps it was something that went wrong in the download so started a new download. It is cold and snowy here, so I had nothing else to do today anyway.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

I had the same problem. Had to turn off my security to install it as Xemana kept deleting the exe file when i tried to install it. The wrapper can cause some anti malware suites to block the installation. either boot up in safe mode and install, or temporarily turn off your security (or try white listing the wrapper.

Reply   |   Comment by jboy  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Thanks but no, was not due to the Zemana error that sees the setup.exe as a virus. I had turned Zemana off before starting. This is just that after those 2 things I described happen, nothing else happens. The game installation files do not seem to launch. Oh well, waiting for this other download to complete to try again.

I am giving it until 9PM when The Walking Dead returns.

I will try to post a review if I do get the game to run. Meanwhile, thanks to all parties involved for giving/getting us all these great games.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hope you get it sorted. Failing that, the MPC version is basically the same apart from the checkboxes, which you need to uncheck.

Reply   |   Comment by jboy  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

I used Soft Organizer for installation and this is the file name it installs from the setup.exe, "AppCrash_setup.exe_Psycho_28f761e4679496363d59d285383446a7c655b6_4a9755ba_270e787e".

Not sure why that is but giving up on it now, guess it was not meant to be. Anyway, thanks for the help!

I got a quick download and install. I know I will enjoy playing this. Thank you so much. My only criticism is the MPC installer. It asks if I would like icons placed on my desktop and I uncheck this "option". Yet two icons are placed on my desktop. I understand I can safely delete these icons. That is not the point, Why bother asking if you would like the icons on the desktop if the installer ignores your preference?

Your downloads have a virus attached.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

The games .exe file is wrapped in a Themida based code that protects the game from being ripped by hackers. Trouble is, Themida can also be used to hide malware, so some security programs block the installation, Your security software has detected the Themida wrapper and seen it as a threat becasue of the potential for Themida to be used as a carrier, but in this case you are getting a false positive.
To install the game you can either reboot your computer in safe mode then install, white list the wrapper or temporarily turn off your security while you install the game. The giveaway team have been giving games away virtually every weekend for the past 10 years (and for 18 months every day back in 2006 to 2008) and have never given away a game infected with malware. the giveaway team thoroughly check all files for download to ensure they are safe. They are highly regarded by the major search engines; if they allowed malware to be downloaded they would lose this standing.

Hi Daniel

Although I've asked the community not to use download managers due to the strain already present on the servers due to the large download, you can set them to download in fewer packages. The advantage of using a download manager in these cases, where connections tend to get severed is that even if that happens the download manger can continue where the interruption occurred, so there's no loss of data. There are free download managers available. I've not tried the following as I purchased a commercial one called 'Internet Download Manager' after a good friend recommended it (there's a usable demo available). You can find a free one HERE, but I've not checked the safety of the site.

Psycho Train
A HOG from MPC, I too ran into the slow downloading, and since we have to go again, as I run a youth group today will try and finish it later, but a friend had this before, and I played it some so can say it's a rather detailed HOG game, which most of you know isn't my favourite genre ;) plus I don't care for the 'evil' storyline in many of these, even if I know it's for a background and not intended to offend, I do remember he ran into a spot that kept hanging on him on his machine, but since I didn't play it enough can't say exactly what that was, and it was a earlier iteration of this game than is being given away here, so YRMV. Apologies for a incomplete review, but wanted to get it in here before it was mostly over like has been happening many Sundays, as it's a busy day for us often.

won't install downloaded three time says setup files corrupted

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

That meaage is usually thrown up with giveaways when the exe file has been blocked by security. due to the Themida wrapper, which was put in palce three or four years ago due to hackers, some security will block the giveaway even though it is safe to install. You should be able to install the game either by whitelisting the wrapper, booting up in safe mode then installing, or temporarily turning off your security till you've installed the game. In the decade that the project has been operating there has never been an infected game, however, since the wrapper was updated with Themida, virtually every weekend we get at least a couple of community members either reporting a virus or the file is corrupted. If the file really was corrupted, no one would have been able to install the game. It is a false positve

There is no malware. The wrapper contains Themida, which is often mistaken for malware. booting up in safe mode or temporarily disabling your security would allow the game to be installed.

Hey Moderator - what's with the 6 hour download time? Even though it's a freebie - 6 hours is ridiculous down load time. Been doing giveaway of the day for years and never had this happen. I am running a window 10 - 3.7 gHz machine. Don't have this problem with another giveaway site.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

The long download times are because of the load on the giveaway servers. With hundreds downloading at any one time, the bandwidth is shared between everyone who is downloading. If only one person downloaded, the download would be relatively fast, but with a hundred plus, the times is increased by the number of community members downloading. Because the file is quite large, there is more of a chance that more community members will be downloading at any one time.

As someone else mentioned, mirrors or having the giveaway dev hosting large files themselves would be a great addition as my download claims to be running for the next 5 to 6 hours which would be unacceptable on most sites. That said... this being a freebie site I will deal with it. Game looks interesting enough on the posted screenshots. Will report back in few hours with my thoughts on the actual game.

Mavadelo,

I've found that later in the day, late afternoon to early evening, traffic is usually much less, & download times, while still maybe longish, are what I feel are reasonable. Right now for me it says 6 hours +... I won't wait that long, & at the same time, don't want to add to the wait for those who choose to download now.

Reply   |   Comment by mike  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Mavadelo, this is when using a download manager makes a big difference. I only use it for the larger downloads. Added advantage is that it takes up where it left off if it stops for any reason. Big time saver for me!

That's okay Buster. I've just told a community member who is having issues downloading that is is okay to use in some circumstances. You can always configure the download manager to download in fewer packages to cut down on the use of the servers. Thanks for helping.

Mavadelo, started downloading when I wrote the above, just now finished the download... gawddarned

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Mavadelo

Unfortunately, with so many community members downloading such a large file (at least for an arcade game), every additional community member joining the que, lengthens the time it takes to download the zip file. With thousands downloading this game it's certain that there will be large numbers clogging the que for much of the giveaway. Unless the giveaway team were willing to spend a lot of money on more bandwidth, this situation will always arise. I doubt the team will invest in better servers becasue the game side of the project has been running at a loss (from what I was told several weeks ago) for quite some time now.

Mavadelo, Meh don't worry about it, been here long enough to know the drill :)
After download the game installed just fine on my Win 10 64 bit. Interesting story, very well made when it comes to the visuals. After a while playing I finally found my daughter but...... aaaargh... I should have known it wouldn't be that easy hahahahaha. For those that like HOG games this is for sure a recommended one. Do you happen to know what the DeLuxe version offers more than this one Stephen?

As far as HOG games go this one get's 8/10 from me, this is due to the fact some items you need to find are a bit hard to see on their background, something that I find highly annoying in HOG games :)

Keep getting "psycho train has stopped working" during the setup

Your security is most likely blocking it. Read some of my other comments related to this issue. Cause most likely to be the Themida wrapper. The file is safe.

I was waiting for a game for a while now. Thank you, it will probably take 2-3 days to complete.

Hi everybody and Whiterabbit-UK. :-)

No problems detected after doing pre-scans and post-scans with Win10 Defender, SAS free, MBAM 2 free, EEK free, GSAM (all definitions updated).
Package too big to be sent to AV virustotal, metadefender, jotti, virscan.
They show the same false positives for GAOTD setup.exe found in last days/weeks/months/years: links at the end.
No problems during game download, during its installation, at its startup.

Problems appeared when I try to change the game options:
- untick full screen option: the screen remained black and I had to terminate the program (alt + f4).
- changing an option (sound, volume, cursor, and so forth) seems to cause "unbootable game"; i.e., the game will start only once after I changed an option (yes, this is annoying).
Solution: go to %appdata%\AlawarEntertainment\VelesStudio\PsychoTrain\saves and delete options.xml (or every files).

I'm using Windows 10 home x64, DEP always on, custom scaling 150%, resolution 1920x1080, color depth 32bit, refresh rate 60Hz.
Hence this game is not fully compatible with windows 10 (just don't change its options to enjoy it).

Hope this helps!

Thanks to the GAOTD team, in particular to Whiterabbit-UK!
Follow the white rabbit, guys!
Thanks for the game to RainbowGames, BigFishGames, MyPlayCity!

xilolee,

"Hence this game is not fully compatible with windows 10"

Please forgive if you've already tried this, but often right clicking the setup file &/or the app or game .exe file, and clicking troubleshoot compatibility helps in Windows 10. Others in the forum have had success with various games right clicking the .exe file, selecting properties, & trying changes on the compatibility tab. Windows xml handling has also advanced over the years & there may be some compatibility issues there -- I wonder if it would work to try editing the options.xml file in Notepad?

I won't be downloading this till later when traffic dies down, so can't try any of the above myself yet.

xilolee, have you tried the compatibilty troubleshooter? If you right-click the shortcut, Windows will apply settings changes for you to test until the game works properly. An easy fix, worth a try...this game is likely more compatible with Windows 8.

Morning, all and especially WR! I'm looking forward to what sounds like a fun adventure/HOG game, my favorite genre (as you know all too well :)). I'm at 58% after an hour, but you generously warned us, so I'm hanging in there. I will of course, as usual, post my reaction to the game once I get to play, but did want to quickly mention that I hopped to the site, HOG Games where you said we could find a written walkthrough, just to bookmark it in case, and all kinds of hysterical security warnings popped up (I almost never get these) saying that "this site has been known to serve malware" and other dire warnings. Just thought I would put this out there just in case it's valid. I will search for another walkthrough (I know there are videos on You Tube) or just hope I don't need one as I usually can get through these with just the occasional hint button.

Thank you for your feedback neme

Have had a chance to play for a while and liking it! Took 2 hours to download; the install went fine, and all is working fine on Win 8.1 (although as with many of these games, fullscreen is not really full screen on my higher res monitor). This feels a tad harder than some, which is good :). While I will use hints if I must, and have even on occasion resorted to a quick peek at a walkthrough, I almost never use the Skip button for a puzzle, but had to with the marbles---I'm having a tough morning and was a bit impatient :). Overall, kudos on this one!

I am curious if anyone else got security warnings on that HOG Games site with the walkthrough---for now, I'm steering clear.

Thought I would post that it took me approximately 13 minutes to download this game. I have a 75/75 fios connection. Now to install and try it; thanks gaod for this game. I have a program called zemana malware that I have to turn off prior to installing any of these games from My Play City as it constantly pops up after removing files disabling the install. I always check the download with Malware bytes and it proves negative. Just thought I would mention this; now for the install and I will post my thoughts after playing this game. Thanks again.

Thanks but, Installation gives an error: failed to launch program!!!!

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

The games exe file is wrapped in a Themida based code that protects the game from being ripped by hackers. Trouble is, Themida can also be used to hide malware, so some security programs block the installation.

I am having the same problem. I disabled my security software - that didn't work, then I booted in safe mode - that didn't work either. I get this problem off and on. Last week's giveaway installed without a problem; this week's is a no go. I really don't understand why this happens. I'm running XP by the way.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Lwaxana

Try installing the game once you've set it up in compatibility mode for XP and make sure the Admin option is checked as well. hopefully that will cure the issue. If not, check the FAQ's thread that i'v elinked to. There may be other fixes that you could try. Sorry i can't be of any more help.

I think I may not have explained myself properly. The error "failed to launch the program" comes from Giveaway of the Day when the setup.exe is trying to get the activation key.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

It still means that the exe file is being blocked. Try the suggestions I mentioned.

Why do you keep saying that you are going to give away free steam keys when you never do? You have claimed that you are going to give them away for a month but I haven't seen a single list showing who won them. Are you really giving them away? Or are you just giving them to the people who post that you like without telling anybody else? if that's what your doing, tell me so I can kiss your ........deleted............... too and get some free games!

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hello Billy,

Read the last two paragraphs of the review above; it explains how to qualify for a free Steam key. These are my own personal keys most of which I paid hard cash for and that I'm happy to share with the community. Anyone who writes a decent review including the suggestions I've posted will get a free Steam key. Attitudes like yours are not welcome here, please refrain from posting such nonsense. All I ask from the community, and that includes everyone who is willing to follow the guidelines, is some decent feedback about the game; something I've been asking for for the past several years. Because I have thousands of Steam keys spare, I thought as a good will gesture, those who are happy to spend a little time posting what they think of this game (and following the guidelines I've outlined), I'd give them any game from the list I've posted in the forums.
Please get your facts straight; firstly I did say only if a community member won a key would i announce winners; if you can find any comment posted (since I made this announcement) that has followed the guidelines I've outlined at the end of my review then I'll give that community member a Steam key. I haven't seen one yet that qualifies. Also, it hasn't been a month since I first announced this, in fact I originally announced free keys way back last June last year, and posted well over a hundred Steam games that I was happy to give away as well as other games over in the game discussion forums and did give away quite a few games when I returned from my vacation. I actually owe keys to at least three community members from that particular giveaway. I stopped it simply because I'd made it too complex and found I was spending hours trying to figure out who got what. It wasn't worth my time or effort, especially as I had more important family business to attend to. All those still awaiting a key will get them eventually, ( when I have the time to find the documents that I kept with the community members names and requests). This particular giveaway was first announced just over 2 weeks ago not a month ago and I do not give many of the games I've listed to friends, though I may give other games that are not listed if I wish as they are my games to do with as I please, so please get your facts straight before pointing your accusatory finger.. No one has yet posted a review that qualifies for a free game. I've deleted part of your comment because it was inappropriate for this family site, where children may read what you had written. If you want to qualify for a free Steam key then read the end of the review for details.

If the bandwidth limits on the GAOTD servers really can't be raised for whatever reason, perhaps it's time to evaluate third-party file hosting options?

Or simply ask the publishers to host the files themselves if they're larger than a certain size.

Or some combination thereof; simply having multiple mirrors (not bound to the same bandwidth limit) of the files would make an enormous difference.

Looks like a great game, but over a gig when installed!? Hidden object games used to be less than 100mb and still good. Is the massive installation due to movie and sound files? I know in these modern times everyone is expected to have the most cutting edge pc, but I haven't, and I don't have disk space to waste on huge files. Still, it looks good, thanks

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Over three quarters of the files that take up the installation are image files and animations.

It's a pity you don't live close by as I have a couple of 350GB HDD's (that have hardly been used) that would probably fit your computer. They have been gathering dust for several years now together with a couple of half decent graphic cards (Nvidia GTX275) and other components such a several IGB memory sticks and a couple of 2GB sticks, power supplies, motherboards and cpu's with heat sinks etc.. I was originally going to build up a computer using one of the motherboard that has a 2.4 GHz dual core already installed. I was going to use it specially for arcade games and to create a dual boot system installing some of my older windows such as one of my copies of win 98 and Win XP, but since then I've acquired a couple more computers since buying my kids newer quad core computers. All those components, basically everything 's there apart from the case to build a half decent computer. All will be dumped next time we have a clear out, which will probably be this Easter.

Bob,

"I don't have disk space to waste on huge files."

If it helps at all, the cheapest hard drives seem to be either remanufactured or take outs, where they disassemble often new but older model PCs that haven't sold for the parts. That said, it can take a bit of patience waiting for the right deal at the right price.

"I was originally going to build up a computer using one of the motherboard that has a 2.4 GHz dual core already installed... basically everything 's there apart from the case to build a half decent computer."

*IF* the 2.4 GHz CPU will run 10, maybe get a cheap matx case & motherboard, which together might be had on sale for ~$50-$60, maybe less, and you've got a media center PC for the living or family room TV. 10 will run OK without activation, or the upcoming cloud version is said to be free. There's loads of free media player software, you can stream using a browser, add a BD drive & you've got a Blu-ray & DVD player etc.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Thanks for your contributions Mike, appreciated.

I still have a couple of dual core computers, both running win 10, though they do tend to be rather slow. My idea was to just use it for arcade games, of which i have well over a thousand ready to install from my Reflexive collection plus all the others i've purchased over the years. Was even thinking of installing a few hundred MPC games, but as I already have thousands of unplayed Steam games I couldn't see the point in building another PC, especially as the two I originally build for my kids *two dual core 3.2GHz cpu's with Nvidia GTX 470's and around 4GB of RAM in each) have been discarded by them for the quad core computers I've recently built for them. I hate to see hardware thrown away, but as I don't know anyone nearby, all of the spares I have will end up in the skip before the year is out. I though of boxing it all and donating it to a charity shop, but they no longer take such things). My wife is fed up of all the spares hanging around in my cupboards, in the attic and garage.

Your security is probably blocking the installation due to the Themida wrapper. please read other comments related to this. I've answered the issue several times. i.e.

Anna, I know that I never had a problem, I am downloading your games since the year 2006 and I never got a problem. I do not know where is the problem here, because I suspected that the firewall was blocking, so I "opened" the firewall to allow the game to install, but for some reason this time nothing worked.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

The only thing I can suggest now is to download the MyPlayCity version. which I've linked to in my review above. If you do opt to download that version, do make sure you uncheck the check boxes at the beginning of the installation. The game is definitely worth the effort. You may get an advert at the beginning of the games start up as most MPC games do advertise one of their online games, but once the game has loaded, everything is exactly the same as the giveaway version.

Today's giveaway is almost 1 GB in size (and over 1GB once installed). The giveaway servers have limited bandwidth, so downloads will be very slow, especially in the early hours of the giveaway and more so when America wakes up. This is due to large numbers of community members downloading at the same time. The large file means more community members will overlap while downloading, which could mean an excruciatingly slow download.. Please do consider not using a download manager as this will add more of a bottleneck, especially for those not using a download manager. for example the download manager i use can download in sixteen separate packages, which means if i used the download manager, it would take up 16 download slots on the giveaway servers, which would be unfair to those not using a download manager.

Please only post comments about today's game giveaway; other comments either not appropriate, or not about the game will be deleted at the moderator or administrators discretion; however a little light banter among community members and with the moderator to keep this a friendly place to visit is acceptable and welcomed. All comments not specifically about today's game giveaway will be judged by the moderator and if deemed not appropriate, will be deleted with no explanation.
I am posting this in light of the massive increase in negative comments not related to the game being given away, inappropriate comments and spam (Almost 700 spam comments were posted over a 24 hour period last month ) that have occurred over the past several months since the site was updated and in particular since the site started using Facebook, Twitter and Steam

I believe if we get lots of decent feedback about the games we get here, more developers will be happy to give away their games. Seeing lots of complaints (and spam) instead of feedback about the giveaways will not persuade other developers to give their creations away for free. So please bear this in mind when posting your comments. Any comment not about the game for example complaints, or if deemed unfriendly or inappropriate, will be deleted (usually with no explanation) or added to the spam folder, which automatically black lists the IP address you used. Although I have enjoyed responding to many of those comments, I will no longer waste my time answering comments from community members who should have read the moderation policy.
Negative feedback about the games given away will always be welcomed because they can also be very constructive for developers, however, complaining about the way the site is operating or problems about downloading or installing the games or about Steam keys not received should be directed to the giveawayoftheday contact form (with evidence of completed tasks if needed). I've linked to the contact form HERE; alternatively, if the problem is game related and it is late in the day (I can't moderate 24 hours a day), please also post your issue in the forums where you may get a response from the community. Often, such problems are related to your computers set up. i.e. your security may block the installation (for example quite a few game giveaways I've installed have been blocked by my copy of Zemana Anti-malware suite) Also please read the moderation policy which can be found HERE and if you do have a problem please check the FAQ's thread HERE. Thank you.

Psycho Train aka Mystery Masters: Psycho Train

In Brief

Suggestions:

Whether you like or dislike Psycho Train please give some feedback about your opinion of today's game giveaway, for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, and how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What improvements would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or good may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would you give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only takes a few moments of your time. This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free instead of complaining about the way this site has changed or that they don't like Steam games. If something isn't for you then move on to the next giveaway, or check out the extra's section at the end of this review; you never know, you may find something that interests you..

If you miss today's game giveaway you can always get the game via MyPlayCity 24/7 HERE. If you prefer the game on Steam you can buy the deluxe version of the game that includes a strategy guide HERE. It costs £6.99/$9.99 (cheaper if you get a friend from the UK to purchase it equivalent to $8.73)

An interesting HOG with excellent graphics and animations. I've only played the game for a short time so haven't posted a full review. You can play either in regular mode where the hint button recharges in 60 seconds and interactive zones sparkle. In expert mode it takes twice a slong to recharge the hint button and there's no help with interactive zones. As with most HOG's of this type you can skip cut scenes if you wish, but I'd advise not to as they do add a lot to the overall feel of the game. The game starts )once the cut scene has finished with a tutorial, which you can close if you wish. The usual advise such as when the cursor changes into an arrow or magnifying glass it indicates something to take a closer look at. When you click on such items you'll zoom in on them and if a hand appears you can interact with the object you are hovering over; basically standard fare for HOG's of this type. If you get stuck with respect to not knowing what to do next or where to find an object, the hint button is a handy help. Personally I try not to use the hint button unless I'm totally confused, or have been searching for that last item for ages.

The game starts off relatively easy, finding various useful items, all of which are required to progress further into the train. It took me a good 30 minutes and almost 60 screen captures to get to my first full HOG scene, and over a hundred to get to the second. The puzzles are quite logical, but do require you to find various codes for example one code is written on a window, you need to find a cleaning cloth to clean the window before you can see the code. Once a code is found it will appear in the journal. On returning to the puzzles, which are liberally scattered throughout the train some can be solved simply by clicking on the appropriate clue that you found, which is usually located in the inventory, though some puzzles do require more interaction such as the Chinese chequers like puzzle, where you have to move sets of marbles to fit the pattern. You find the pattern via two separate finds, one of which is ......spoiler alert....... in the camera. These interactive puzzles are timed. If you run out of time you can skip the puzzle.

You'll find a written walk-through over on HOG Game HERE - (someone reported a possible issue with the download version of this walk-through), plus a slide show of 170 images in no particular order (mainly the earliest images are near the end due to numbering), also a lot of the images will contain spoilers such as codes and show you where interactive area's are located. You'll find the slideshow HERE.

Conclusion:

I found Psycho Train very entertaining. would have liked to have had the time to complete the game for a full review, but time was limited this weekend. The game is very interactive and relatively easy, especially for HOG aficionado's. I'd score this a 9 out of 10 for the graphics, game play, sound, interactive are's and excellent puzzles. A good family HOG, though the theme may be inappropriate for young children

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away Psycho Train and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games, in this case Steam keys.

Useful Information not related to today's game giveaway:

The problems section that used to be posted here in the Game review is now included in the Game Discussion FAQ's thread; which you can find HERE.

I've updated the games section that used to be posted with the review. The thread is now called 'Weekly round up of game deals', formerly the games section of the weekly reviews. You can find the new thread (which I've posted in the sticky section of the game discussion forums to make it easier to find if you are perusing the game discussion forums) HERE.

If The Legend of the Golden Tome didn't appeal, you may find other games either free or for less than the price of a cup of coffee via the 'Weekly Roundup of Game Deals' thread which I've posted a link to above, or HERE.
The free game over on Origin is still the excellent atmospheric Sci Fi RPG third person Shooter Mass Effect 2, but it will be ending soon. If you've still not got a copy, get it now, it's well worth. It usually costs £19.99/$19.99 (though I paid the pre-order price of over £30 prior to it's release back in January 2010) . You can get it HERE. Please note that you do require the Origin game platform to be able to download and install the game.

You will also find lots of deals over on Green Man Gaming and Big Fish Games usually have 70% off the first game you buy from them, plus they also have other deals occasionally. Desura was purchased from Bad Ju Ju games last year by One Play. If you already have a Desura account you can read details of what is happening HERE. As yet you can't access games you previously purchased via Desura (I have around 1400), but One Play are working to recover everyone's accounts and hope to do so by the end of March 2017. Indie Royale will also resume on a weekly basis, though at this time I don't know if previous Inde Royale Greenlight bundles will be honoured? Alawar, Gamehouse and Playrix entertainment have free games available (usually online versions) and other game houses such as the AAA distributors Ubisoft and Origin always have some games on sale. I've updated the Weekly roundup of game deals HERE to include a large list of other sites where you can find games on sale ( eg Origin, uPlay, GreenManGaming etc, as well as links to free online games as well as other game houses such as Alawar, Playrix and Gamehouse plus gaming news sites such as Rock Paper Shotgun and Game Seek, and included a list of free to play Massive Multiplayer games such as World of Tanks, world of warships, Liberators and Allegiance to name a few. For more details please go to the Weekly roundup of game deals over in the game discussion sticky section HERE.

There are 1180 games on sale over on Steam at the moment, with up to 91% off. Game prices range from as little as £0.15p (Plasma Being, Splatter: Zombie Apocalypse, Drago: A game about a Dragon, See No Evil, House of Caravan, Squirbs), all with 91% off, and there are almost 300 games and dlc less than $1 and almost 400 for less than £1. You can find all of the deals HERE.

If you spend more than $3 in the Indie Gala store you'll also get a free copy of the atmospheric point and click horror adventure game 'Between Me and the Night' worth $14.99/£9.99. There's also an RPG sale on over on the Humble Bundle site featuring Fallout 4 (50% off), Victor Vran (75% off), Grim Dawn (50% off), Torchlight I & II (75% off), Elder Scrolls Online Gold Edition includes all expansions so far (40% off), Elder Scrolls Online Ramriel Unlimited (50% off), Van Helsing Complete Pack (75% off), Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition (25% off), plus other non RPG games on sale. If you subscribe to the Humble Monthly, which costs $12 a month you not only get a large collection of decent Steam games you will also get for the first month of the subscription Total War: Warhammer, which was released last Spring and costs $59.99/£39.99. The great thing is, you can cancel at any time, so only need to receive the first bundle of games. I personally haven't bothered, but only becasue I usually have already purchased most of the games included in the monthly bundle. The usual savings on the games you get are around 90%, not counting the introductory offer. There's also lots of games on sale over on the Bundle Stars and Indie Game Stand (IGS).

For those who missed out on the Alien Shooter 2 - Conscription giveaway from last month or Zombie Shooter from last October or Alien Shooter 2 - Conscription from last June or Zombie Shooter 2 from last May you can get six games from the series including Alien Hallway, Zombie Shooter 2, Alien Shooter 2: Reloaded, Alien Shooter: Revisited, alien Shooter and Zombie Shooter for $1.49. HERE. Pay an extra $0.50 and get a second bundle to give to your friends. All keys are Steam based. stores.

...........................................FREE game offer from the moderator in exchange for quality feedback...................................

I've posted a list of over 100 Steam games in the forums HERE, some of which I will giving away to those community members who post decent feedback for the game given away that day. It is quite an extensive list of games taken from the 10 000+ Steam keys I've collected over the last several years; all were either purchased by me, or received free for pre-ordering games on Steam, plus a few from entering competitions and other offers). There will be a limited number of other keys available, such as Origin, uPlay and Desura keys (Desura has recently been purchased following the original owners demise and should be up and running by the end of March). I will announce the winner's from the giveaway the following week. If no announcement is made, it means no one posted feedback that qualified for a free game that week. There were no winners from the previous two weeks, though I am still considering a couple of comments from last week. I will inform those community members if I decide they are worth a game by email. If you have won a game, I will also post details in the thread I've created specifically for that purpose HERE. Once I've given a key away, the game and any comments by the winner will be removed from the list.

Depending on the quality of the feedback, I may choose to award games to more community members for each game given away, 'at my discretion'. The feedback must be about the game, and it must include a couple of paragraphs of feedback following the guidelines I've posted in the suggestions section of my review. i.e. your opinion of the game, what you liked and/or disliked plus suggestions for improvement. If you choose a game that is very cheap I may give you a second game; so, when choosing from the list I provide, please list more than one choice. If a game is chosen by more than one community member and only one key is available the key will go to the one I deem the most useful. I do have multiple keys for quite a lot of the games I've listed, so, don't be put off if you see someone else has chosen the game you want. I haven't indicated any of the games I have multiple keys for (though for example I do have several keys for the excellent Western themed AAA game Call of Juarez, which i picked up for free for purchasing several games via the Indie Gala store several months ago. spending a few dollars got me a copy of the game, so I made several separate purchases over a couple of days while the offer was still live.
I do own at least three community members a game from the previous giveaways that I posted several months ago. I'd totally forgotten about those. I do have a document with their names on, so they will get a game from the original list when I find the document (I'm extremely disorganized); or they can peruse the new list and choose something different. Just post a comment over in the forums in the appropriate thread. If you do post feedback with a view to getting one of the games and think you have covered the requirements, you don't have to do anything until I announce the winners the following week.
Please remember, this comments section is mainly for feedback about today's game giveaway. If you're not sure, read the moderation policy, which you can see HERE
