Protect your Planet
In Brief
Protect your planet is an asteroid defender game using the Unity game engine. Unfortunately every time I boot the game up it crashes after the Unity splash screen. I've tried adjusting the compatibility in various ways, but nothing worked for me; so, unfortunately at this time there will be no review from me today apart from a short impression from watching some videos of game play, unless I get it to work later today)? However you can see reviews of this game from the Steam community HERE (almost all negative) and see a few video of game play HERE (via the Steam page ), HERE and HERE.
After watching the videos I can see why 'Protect your Planet' has garnered so many negative votes because all you seem to do is click on asteroids heading for earth. Clicking on them destroys them by shattering them to small pieces. If any asteroids hit the planet you lose a life. You get five lives in total; lose all five and you have to start again from scratch....... The game play appears very boring after a few moments becasue there is virtually no variety, just asteroids heading for the planet; that apart from the sizes, have very little in the way of individual asteroids i.e they all look similar. (Even the planet you are protecting looks like a giant lump of rock that is just a larger version of the asteroids). Today's giveaway is a free standing version of the game from Falcoware and does not include a Steam key. As with all Falcoware games, the installed game includes the Falcoware installer that does contain adverts, but these are not the malicious kind and are not installed to your system separately, but are bound to the games Falcoware installer. Adverts are only seen during the games boot sequence and then when you close the game down your browser will be opened to Falcoware's home page. These additions to the game earns cash for both Falcoware and the license holder of the game and is the reason it can be given away free.

Useful Information not related to today's game giveaway:
Don't forget to check out the Epic game store HERE for the latest freebie Sundered: Eldritch Edition , (a chaotic hand-drawn Metroidvania, where you resist or embrace ancient eldritch powers; a challenging and unique take on a classic genre from the creators of Jotun, and now including a local co-op mode!); This freebie ends later this afternoon (I think 6pm UK time). The next game will be Horace a huge platforming adventure which pushes the boundaries of the genre with a profound story of a small robot learning of life, the universe and Douglas Adams, plus there are more free games over at Indie Gala HERE.
If you are looking for a decent game bundle well worth getting that contains a decent selection of triple A and indie arcade style games check out the latest Humble Choice bundle (formerly the monthly humble bundle) HERE; it includes 12 games of which you can choose 11 for the princely sum of only $12; total worth of those games at this time (none are on sale) is over $300. This months games include Middle-Earth: Shadows of War, Graveyard Keeper, Two Point Hospital, Dirt Rally 2.0 + 3 DLC, Street Fighter V, Bad. North: Jotun Edition, Trailmakers, Unrailed, Whisper of a Machine, Them's Fightin' Herds, Mages of Mystralia and Grip Combat Racing + 1 DLC plus a DRM free game and while subscribed you have free access to a trove of almost 100 DRM free games that would cost a small fortune to buy. It's definitely a brilliant bundle and one of the best combined offers ever {apart from the THQ and Codemasters Humble bundles from several years ago when the developer THQ's and Codemasters whole catalogue of then recent games was up for grabs for $5 each; (both bundles were worth over $400 each) just before THQ went into liquidation back in 2008}.
Finally, check out Delenns thread over in the Game Discussion forums for details of other free games and offers HERE

I unzipped it, clicked on setup, got a number of files, one being a "protect my planet.exe" file, which is an application file, and a red circle with a white arrow file, which is a "Game.exe file.
I don't know what I could have done wrong, as I've been with computers over 20 years. The "Made With Unity" page comes up, and just when I though, "there's the game", the page disappears and does nothing else. It would seem to me, ONE of those application files would play the game! But, I get sent to the Falco Software page. I have always hated that website, for a few reasons.
I few years ago, I quit going to that site for good! The only reason I tried THIS download is the mention of the great graphics, and the screenshots show that, AND that it reminded me of an old arcade game of old, called "Astroids", that I used to play with frequency.
Any ideas of what could be wrong? I'm again, not pleased at all with that website. Wouldn't bother if I couldn't play it, but I could get an answer of what I might be doing wrong (which I doubt), and get it going, I'd play it.

I did not find the game to be very good, but had to get it anyhow, couldn't pass up the bargain to save all that money.

Game also crashes after Unity splash screen on Windows 10 - version -1909. Attempted different screen settings, etc but never got into the game. Even though this game has been getting unfavorable reviews, this is where it's important to leave reviews in hopes that the developers will rectify the problems and perhaps gain a part of the market share.

FWIW, running as admin got a couple of folders in the games folder that hold error logs. After trying & crashing in my win7 32-bit VM show direct draw 11 failure & a whole bunch of memory access read errors.

Add Icons to online games, this game opens the closes and then brings up online games! STAY AWAY!

Keith Maddox,

Hi Keith,

All free game sites use the same process. This is so that the games can be given away for free instead of having to pay for them. The online games are incorporated into the Falcoware installer that has been added to the game, they only show while the Falcoware installer is running, which is only when the game is booting up. Once the game is ready to play you get no more adverts for other games. These adverts are not malicious and only show while the game is booting up. Also, when you close the game down, your browser opens to the Falco home page.

This is a method that earns both the middle man i.e. Falcoware and the developer or the license holder of the game money every time the game is either downloaded, installed or played. Developers can earn more money by giving their games away than if they sold them via sites like Big Fish games Alawar, Gamersgate and Steam. You usually find arcade games older than several months included on many of these free sites after the initial release sales have dropped significantly.

Again, there is no malicious software installed to the computer system the game has been installed to; everything is within the games installed folder.

regards Whiterabbit-uk

p.s. the desktop icons are easily deleted with no effect on the game or the computer.
