In Brief:
Primal Age is a challenging 2D top-down Battle Royale arena game with retro styled graphics.
The Game:
Initially the game starts in a window but you can create a full screen window via the buttons in the top right of the window. You'll see a flashing 'Press any key' that opens up the main menu. Here you can access 'how to play' and 'options' by clicking on them with the left mouse button or alternatively start the game immediately or exit the game. The options menu includes a full screen/window toggle as well as toggles to turn off the chip tune music (a very short loop) and the sound effects or change the language from the default English to Russian. When restarting the game it always defaults to a window, but language changes remain .

The There's no actual instructions on how to play the game. The menu item 'How to Play, takes you to an almost blank screen and indicates that you use the WASD keys to move and the LMB for action.

My advice move around constantly, and hit as many enemies as you can to increase your survival time. Run over all joints of beef and other food if seen as this allows you to take more hits from enemies. Enemies can also pick up these joints to gain lost health, so try to pick them up first as it'll be easier to kill off opponents. You start off with only three lives (denoted in the top left of the screen as joints of meat). The bottom left of the screen tells you how many opponents are left in the arena.

Game play appears to revolve around throwing objects at your 'initially' many opponents. You start a round with fifteen seconds to survive before losing a life and having to start again. Every time you kill an enemy you get some extra survival time. If you are hit by opponents an unknown number of times (The game was so manic I couldn't figure out the number of hits it took) a skull appears above your head, which indicates that you need to pick up a side of beef before you can continue throwing objects at the enemy and also that your health is dangerously low. One more hit from an opponent and you'll die. Food is dropped by enemies that you have killed. Running over food (denoted by what look like a side of beef or other meat) removes the skull symbol and you are again able to throw objects at the opposing force.

Kill all enemies to survive and win the first Battle Royale, then, move on to the next level and repeat.

Don't step out of the bounds of the arena as that will kill you instantly due to the forest fire surrounding the arena.

You can see a video of game play HERE

Controls:
W = Move Forward
A = Move Left
D = Move Right
S = Move Back
LMB = Throw object
Mouse pointer + LMB = Access menu items
Conclusion:
Primal Age is an extremely difficult game to beat (at least for me), but I bet it's rewarding when you finally get past the first level. This one I'll be keeping despite it's chip tune music; mainly for it's challenge, but also because I like the retro styled graphic and simple controls. I didn't get past the first level despite having played the first level over and over for almost 30 minutes (I did managed to get to only one enemy left, but lost it after running out of time). So I cannot confirm whether the game saves your progress?

The game was released to Steam HERE on the 11th November 22, but there are no Steam community reviews of the game yet. It's not discounted in the Steam sale, costing £4.29
Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 63 antimalware engines. You can see the scan HERE

Whiterabbit-uk,

Continuing my limited giveaways for Christmas to whoever asks first. There's only one key for each of the games listed. These giveaways are not part of the usual game giveaways from this site, but directly from me. I've added several more games for this last day. I'll be removing all unclaimed keys when the next game goes live Thursday morning at 8am (UK time)

Please list at least three games in order of preference, if only one person claims a particular game and has listed more with only one claimant, then they may (originally posted 'will', but thought 'may' better) get more than one key. Please list no more than five games in your preferences. I'll be sending keys out later today to those who asked between the 25th to 27th/

Also, please check out the game on Steam first to see if it is something you'd definitely play before listing any game you fancy. Thank you for your understanding.

I've removed most of the games previously listed that have already been earmarked by community members who posted requests before todays game went live.

I'm assuming the first in your lists are your main choice. Please note that second choices are open to other community members.

Please reply to this comment via the Reply button rather than posting a new comment. This will keep all posts related to my giveaways in the same group of comments. Thank you.

At first when I launched the game the framerate was unplayable. And then I reboot my laptop and all was fine. The enemies on the screen are relentless as they try every trick in the book to defeat you on the map.

I often scrambled to collect the meat on the field as in a faint message that appears on the screen it says your character needs to eat. My skills were just not there. The computer got to it before me. If anyone does better at this game I admire them but this game throws a lot of weight around to make sure you are challenged 100%

For arena shooters I prefer the fast action of Robotron, Smash TV and Total Carnage. The only thing is that if you play on an emulator you will want to run it on one that you can map your twin analog sticks to, one for movement and one for 360 degree shooting as the default keyboard controls in Mame are quite tricky to manage.

If you are looking for fun retro classic fun on the cheap Namco Museum Archives 1 and 2 are on the Steam store right now for $4.99 per game that's $10 for a great day of fun between two collections.
