I´m Hans from #18. Thanks for answering! No problem with the time.
I hope you will receive my second post also because I have another question for you! Here it is: Could I play this game also from a USB-Stick? I have the idea to copy that folder to my USB-Stick and run it from there. Is it possible? Thanks in advanced for answering! Greetings from Mexico!

.............................Moderator comment...........................

sorry for the late reply, yes it should be possible, though not all game giveaways allow it.

A fast comment... If the C64 had the same graphics at its time then would this game be out of business...
Using the arrow keys is below all standard today... we used them in the beginning of the first home PC, but we are writing 2010 on the calendar... The game is so easy that even I can move on to the next level without looking at the screen...

....................................Moderator Comment...................................

Did you manage to get past level 4 or 5. I find trying to get past one of the barriers impossible as bouncy is resting on a collapsible platform. Before I can break through the wall the platform collapses and Bouncy falls to oblivion. As for your question, not necessarily as the original is probably abandonware. now before we get into an argument I know abandonware has no legal meaning, but the developer who originally released the game no longer exists so the game becomes fair game to anyone who can find a copy. You can get an older abandonware version of Bumpy, called Bumpys Arcade Fantasy via the following link:

http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/210/Bumpys+Arcade+Fantasy.html

Game's not bad... I like it. :) Unfortunately, every time I enable boost with alt and turn, my laptop makes "beep beep" noises... a bit annoying. Did it have to be "Alt" too boost??

when i run the game it sets my screen resolution to the lowest setting even after the game has been closed, i had to go into my computer's settings to change it back. also, after i crash into something the game will become jumpy and my speed is slower relative to the time.
other than that it is a good enough free game.

............................Moderator comment............................

That's odd. It doesn't reset my screen resolution.

Worked on my windows 7 64 bit premium but had to reinstall with windows recommended settings. OK game but if you want a REAL free racing game try trackmania.com . Best racing game out there IMO.

............................Moderator comment............................

For free I agree, but there are much better commercial games around including some of those I mentioned earlier such as Dirt, dirt 2, most of the last four or five years of Need for Speed, Grid, F2010, Flatout Ultimate Carnage, plus several others. I've not tried the free online NFS game yet, but if it's anything like the latest NFS games I'd say it's a serious contenter to take the title of best freebie from Trackmania. :) (IMO)

Hi! Installed and runs just fine. But a question: In case I want to remove the game, how can I do it? Just delete the folder in "Games"? Thanks in advanced for answering my question. Have a great day all!

Scuze the delay in replying. Yes you just delete the installed folder.

Used Mirror Link to d/l. Ok Win 7 Ultimate x32 on iCore 7 plenty ram and 9800 video Release 260 October. No probs. Make a shortcut. No uninstaller.
Nice little game. Just tried first level & in flat out part it flies but at first left turn guess didn't plan decently cause ended up in a big loop of pile ups. Does give a bit of google machine street eye views of inner city. I'll mess with this one later. Hoiding for now.
Give it a fast 6/10 just for the immediate take (points for free!).
Thanks guys.

Tegan,

Ea games released a free multiplayer game called "Need For Speed World" and you can download it here: http://world.needforspeed.com
Controllers are enabled, 50 levels and a multitude of cars. Very good grahics and handling. May be worth checking out.

.........................Moderator comment.......................

I love the need for speed games. Beautiful graphics and great game play. If you don't mind multiplayer this is a great freebie. Thanks for commenting Rasguy. :)

I'm running win 7 64 bit on a quad core I had no problems loading ot running the game.
I just hate the sound it makes as I guess you miss the ranking time.
The crashes are excellent , the sound is maybe too good. especially if you have ever been in an accident.
I think this is one of the best race games we have gotten from gaotd

Hi, folks: My husband just got a PC game controller for his birthday (I think there's a better term for it but for some reason I'm blocking it), and I've been on the lookout for PC games (downloadable or playable online), ideally either racing games or flying games, that require a game controller or at least optionally allow use of a game controller as configuration options.

Today's game doesn't appear to allow that option -- can anyone identify any of the other suggested games that do?

Thanks so much for sharing your amazing wealth of knowledge with the rest of us. What a gift!

Doesn’t work on my Win 7 x64 with on board Intel G33/G31 graphics. (Core2 Duo E7200 (2.53gh) 8GB ram if that makes any difference.) After selecting Play a black rectangle forms in the upper left corner of my monitor which appears to be 1024×768 on my 1280×1024 screen. Windows gives the “very helpful” message “PSR.exe has stopped working.” I tried the option screen with everything turned off. I downloaded the myplaycity version. Same result.

I'll check out some of your other recommended driving games.

This game would have been so much better, if you could change the controls. More developers of freeware are listening, and allowing this to occur in their games.

Black screen of nothing!
Alt+tab right click on tab and close.
Remove game.

It worked on my Win 7 64 bit Ultimate with the latest graphics drivers. Probably some driver missing or needing updating. you can get this game 24/7 from MyPlayCity if you want to try again. :)

I love urban skylines and I love racing around them. Even way back in '95 playing "Crusin' USA" in the hotel arcade...

This is definitely getting my download. Looks like it has good graphics which is a major plus.

...............................Moderator Comment.............................

If you love urban landscapes I highly recommend Burnout Paradise; The Ultimate Box and Need for Speed Undercover, both have massive city scapes to explore, other games with great city scapes are both of the Crash Time games (called something else in the US) and all of the 3D Grand Theft auto games especially the latest (GTA IV plus the expansion Episodes from grand Theft Auto - 'The Ballad of Gay Tony' and 'The Lost and the Found'. There are other games as well, for example Midtown Madness 1 & 2 (both games are fairly old, but are still excellent games) as well as The Wheelman, and Saints Row 2, Driver: Parallel lines . There are some trucker games such as 18 Wheels of Steel (a couple of versions) and the tongue in cheek Big Mutha Truckers 1 & 2. Finally try Test Drive unlimited which enables you to explore a couple of thousand miles of roads on an Hawaiian Island including its towns. all of these games include loads of Urban driving as well as free roaming open world modes.

Windows 7 | 32bit | Administrator | 2GB Ram | Duel Core

Couldn't get the game to run!

Got past the first screen with the options, but as the game its self launched windows came up with a stopped working message.

Tried compatibility mode, and still no

..........................Moderator comment...........................

Hi Norman,

I've got it to work on a Win 7 64 bit ultimate platform, an XP Pro 32 Bit with SP1 platform and a vista Home Premium 64 bit and Home Basic 32 bit platform. Try changing the graphics mode via the options menu (see the first image in my review above), if that diesn't work get the latest graphics drivers for your graphics card (If you're not sure which manufacturer you have type dxdiag in the run field (at the bottom in the start menu in win 7) and click on the display tab. you should be able to see whether you need ATI or NVIDIA drivers. You'll also need the model number of your graphics card.

Very simple race game, but it seemed like the car wasn't really under my control sometimes... it felt like the car was floating and not on a road. I think the car physics need to give the impression that the car is heavier. I understand that in real life, control of a car is more difficult at higher speeds unless going in a straight line, but a game needs to be a little less lifelike in the physics so that the player experiences more near missess and less collisions... unless that particularly is what someone wants to do. Unfortunatly crashes aren't so exciting in this game, and it is sometimes difficult to free yourself from a pile up. In some instances the surrounding graphics seemed to split on a collision. Having said that, it will still appeal to some. The graphics aren't bad, but certainly not up to todays standards.
The Good: Installs fine and runs ok apart from a couple of graphical glitches.
The Bad: I don't feel there is a long term appeal here.

..............................Moderator Comment............................

Thanks for your review Terty. I agree wholeheartedly with what you say. i found when I crashed into one of the invisible barriers, especially where it joined to a building it was very difficult to extracate myself from the crash. reverse is very sluggish and sometimes after a crash it felt like I was travelling through treacle, even with nitro boost activated. Still, there is something for some here. It's not a difficult game. The car physics as you say are not realistic, and IMO not even arcade orientated, but the game is still a worthwhile download, especially if you like anything vehicular. I may have only given it a 5 out of 10, but then I'm spoiled for choice having purchased all of the most recent racing games over the past several years, some of which are amazingly life like.

Introduction:

The downloaded zip file is 64.6Mb and unpacks to a read me with basic installation instructions and the terms and conditions as well as a dual activation and set up file.

Sun City is the city of future with the best ecology and high tech infrastructure. But the rise of crime rate makes this place dangerous for living.
Extremists block roads, car criminals crash the traffic, hackers override automatic city traffic control.
Special Supercar Police Unit was organized to blow the whistle on these practices.

There are 2 new cars in the recharged version.

Reference: http://www.cccp-games.ru/psrrecharged/ accessed 22nd Oct 2010

Options Menu

The Game:

Today’s game is another car game from Handmade games/cccp games that includes elements of racing against time, smashing into bandit cars and destroying road blocks. The game looks similar to most of the vehicle based games that hand made games have created, however there’s no actual racing against other AI controlled vehicles this time

Instead there are four scenarios covering 16 levels, which repeat with different routes on four city maps, the levels get harder as you progress:

1) … Patrol the Route as fast as you can, avoiding traffic. Near misses gain you a charge of Nitro Boost, but collisions will slow you down. The route is marked by green arrows.

2) … Extremists have blocked the cities roads with cargo containers. Destroy the cargo containers using the vehicles provides. Each vehicle has a snow plow attached to the front of the vehicle. Destroy the blokades by hitting them at weak points. Each hit earns you a charge of Nitro Boost.

3) … Criminals are terrifying the city by purposely crashing into random traffic. Ram the culprits until you’ve destroyed their vehicle. You will earn a charge of Nitro boost every time you hit the criminals vehicle.

4) … Hackers have gained access to the cities traffic control system and have threatened the safety of citizens cars by remotely controlling empty cars. Ram all traffic cars but avoid oncoming traffic otherwise youll lose valuable time.

There are five different vehicles to choose from called the L560 (Bullet and Needle), the F400 (Phantom and Ghost), the C850 (Cheetah, the B1000 (Meteor0 and the P1200 (Photon), the latter three are locked at the start of the game. To unlock them you have to earn points by beating specific times of which there are three. Failing to qualify withn one of these times gains you no points and fails to unlock the next level.

If you miss today’s game giveaway you can get the same game for free 24/7 from MyPlayCity, however do read the information I’ve provided in the Alternatives section below.

Controls:

Accelerate – Up arrow key
Brake – Down arrow key
Turn Left – Left arrow key
Turn Right – Right arrow key
Nitro Boost – Left Alt
Hard Brakes/ Drift – Left Ctrl
Respawn – R
Pause – Esc

System Requirements:

MS Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7
CPU Pentium 1000 MHz or higher
256MB RAM,
Video 64MB

Conclusion

The game play is reasonable, but the graphics are looking a little tired, with little improvement over previous games from this developer. They have tried to make something slightly different from your usual vehicular game, somewhat on the lines of Crash Time II & III (this game has a different name in the US), but falls far short of that particular game in both game play, graphics and replayability. I enjoyed checking the game out, but once I’d worked through the four scenarios I can see it getting rather tedious. Also with only 16 levels the game could easily be completed in less than an hour if you manage to complete each level within the specified times, which I found easy to do.

In my opinion the game is worth a 5 out of 10, however, if you don’t have many vehicle based games you may enjoy this game much more than I did.

I would suggest to the developer that they create more scenarios that are customisable so as to increase the replay value of the game. I’d also consider using a different game engine so that you can increase the graphical realism. There are loads of vehicle based games available now, most of which are much better both in game play elements and graphics than this game.

Alternatives:

Other Games:

Gametop.com and MyPlayCity have several vehicle based games for example KGB hunter, Mad Truckers and Extreme Rally , you’ll also find a wheeled games thread in the forums and there’s also lots of car based games in the free games synopsis, such as the first two Grand Theft auto games GTA I & II, and Death Rally (there’s now an updated version of Death Rally that no longer requires you to use DOSBox) . Of course there are many more vehicle based games from these sources, but I’ve only mentioned those games that are not racing games much like todays game giveaway.

Gametop:

MyPlayCity:

you can get today's game giveaway from MyPlayCity:

http://www.myplaycity.com/police_racing/

There are several commercial games that I highly recommend which are available from various sources. Crashday (Atari) is one of the better looking ones though it’s now 5 years old, then there’s several available via Steam:

Crashday:

http://crashday.software.informer.com/

Clutch:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/35310/

Zombie Driver:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/31410/

Metal Drift:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/32200/

and an older one called:

Death Track: Ressurection, which todays game giveaway reminds me of a lot, though Deathtrack is much more fun and polished.:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/7840/

Crash Time III :

http://store.steampowered.com/app/33620/

Crash Time II:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/11390/

Flatout II

http://store.steampowered.com/app/2990/

Flatout

http://store.steampowered.com/app/6220/

Flatout: Ultimate Carnage:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/12360/

I’ve not included traditional racing games like Grid, Dust I & II, Race 07 and F2010. You can also get a free online game called Darkwind: War on Wheels that’s set in a post apocalyptic society. Also last years release called Fuel could be classed in this genre, and is probably the best of the lot for amazing graphics

Darkwind: War on Wheels:

http://www.dark-wind.com/

Fuel:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/12800/

Apart from Metal Gear I can attest to all of the other games being of good quality and very playable, especially Fuel, Flatout Ultimate Carnage, Crash time III as well as some of the freeware games, because I’ve purchased (or downloaded in the case if the freebies) and played all of them extensively. Most of the commercial games I've mentioned can now be bought for bargain price's if you now where to look. (check out GOG for the first flatout game, but too be honest I'd get flatout 2 as it's got better car physics.

http://www.gametop.com/download-free-games/deadly-race/download.html
You can get a reasonable quad bike racing game called ATV Quadro Racing HERE, for free from Gametop. MyPlaycity has two trial bike games called Trial Bike Ultra and Super Motocross

Just a note of caution about these download sites, especially Gametop which is increasingly becoming aggressive with respect to pop-ups, home page hijacks and toolbars. . The site now has a yellow rating with Site Advisor. Some of their games do try to install toolbars and hijack your browsers home page, but both can be avoided by making sure the boxes are unchecked during installation. The site also seems to have ramped up their pop ups, so make sure your pop up blocker is active if you want to avoid those annoying pop ups. Once the games are installed you will get the sites home page opening up when you shut the games down, but there is no in game advertising and effectively you’re getting free commercial arcade games.

Another free bike racing game called Moto Racing (which I think is better than the one being given away for free today), can be downloaded from HERE, though it doesn’t have the physics emulation that Super Motocross has. Monster Truck Trials the previous giveaway that is similar to today’s game giveaway, is also available for free HERE, though it’s had a name change to Monster Truck Challenge.

Here’s a couple more online trials bike games that can be played full screen called Bike Master, which you can find HERE and Trial bike Pro which you can get HERE. There’s also some newer additions to Gametops books such as Neptunes Buggy Online and Sky Track (which is similar to Star Racing).

There are more racing games available from Gametop, MyPlayCity and FreeGamePick and also some freeware and abandonware racing games available via the free games synopsis in the giveaway forums. You’ll find a sticky on the front page of the forums that'll take you to the lists of games. Trackmania is probably the best of the freeware games, but others such as the online game Darkwind and the abandonware game Death Rally (which was recently updated so that it will now play on windows).

If you don’t mind paying for your games, you can get a couple of excellent 3D Motocross games (that are rather old, but still look good and play well) called Motocross Mania and Motocross Madness 2 that allow you to move around a vast open world, and have several different modes of play. You can pick up either of the games below for less than today’s giveaway if you look for them on the net. I’ve seen Motocross Madness 2 (the better of the two games) for less than $5 on Play.com, though you may have to buy a second hand one.
