Pirates Deck
In Brief
Pirates Deck is a 'simple' tower defense game; however, the game was originally a 3D space shooter, that garnered massive negative comments from the Steam community the developer decided to replaced the original game files and retained the name with this Tower Defense game. If like me you are curious as to what the original was like you can see the original Pirates Deck HERE.

Pirates Deck is a tower defense game with a modern day pirate theme. The pirates attacking the coastal emplacements have been aided by aliens. There are only three weapons to choose from, Machine Guns (cost 50), Lasers (cost 70) and Rockets (cost 100). I found I could buy the most expensive defenses to fill all emplacements for the first three levels. You get 500 gold to start and the first two levels only have four emplacements to fill.
There is an upgrade button, that you drag to whichever emplacement you wish to upgrade. There is no indication of how much each upgrade costs, but you can work that out by seeing how much is deducted from the total amount of money you have, which is displayed in the top right of the game arena.
There is no speed up button and there's no true full screen. You can expand the games window by clicking on the button in the top right hand corner of the window. There appears to be a total of 12 levels.

Pirates Deck is one of those cheap £0.79 games that is on sale at the moment for £0.39 ($0.49) over on Steam HERE . The game has mainly negative reviews, which you can see HERE. You can also see a couple of videos of game play HERE and HERE. Today's version is free standing and does not include a Steam key.
There are some graphical glitches such as the remains of rocket trails that don't disappear immediately and when I rebooted the game it looked like all my progress had been lost, so I started from level 1 again, but once completed, all the previous levels I'd completed appeared again. If you are a seasoned tower defense aficionado, then this game will be far too easy; for those not as familiar with tower defense games, this would be an ideal starter game as it is relatively easy to beat once you know the mechanics of the game, which for Pirates Deck, it's basic.

Robert ,

Hello Robert,
Falcoware games like MyPlayCity, Gametop, TooMky Games, FreeGamePick and other free game sites all use low level adware installed within an installer so when you play the game you see an advert while the game is booting up then your browser is opened when you close the game down. There is no malicious software installed separately to your computer, the only files responsible for the adware and browser opening are within the games Falcoware application (i.e. the red and white file) and their alternative installers depending which free game site you use. All the games given away from these sites are genuine full version, free standing registered games. The adware is included so that the middle man i.e. Falcoware/MyPlaycity/TooMky Games etc can pay the original developer or the license holder of the game a cut of the advertising revenue. All the games from these sites will also be found on most of the big name game distributors sites such as Alawar, Big fish, Steam, Gametop, Game Fools etc.

My Win XP PC Specifications
Windows XP Pro 32bit , Intel Core2Duo E8500 3,16Ghz ,
4 Gb memory (DDR 2) , NVIDIA GeForce GTX460 768Mb .

Downloaded and installed without a problem .

It doesn't work under Windows XP .

Error : not a valid Win32 application ... AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN ...

Whiterabbit-uk hi .
I've read your answer to Robert's comment .
I must say that I , as a gamer , don't have ANY problem with the way
that's been used by the companies , to give as their games for free .
I understand that they have to make some money .
On the other hand I have a BIG problem with Falco games , because
their games , 8 out of 10 times , do NOT work under Windows XP , even
though in the description of the game I reed "Windows XP compatible" .
And to top that , there were some cases that the game didn't work , even
under Windows 7 ...
Also , I don't have a problem to fiddle a little bit with the settings , in order
to make the game playable .
The problem is that , is one thing , as a company , to giveaway a game in
order to receive some valuable feedback and reviews about the game from
the gamers and a completely different thing to "force" the gamers to
jeopardize their computers by shutting down their antivirus/antimalaware/
firewalls , or forcing them to actually do a full troubleshooting of the game ,
just to make the game to run .
As a company , you should give the people working/playable games .
I , as a gamer , will spend time and brain power to give the company an honest
review of the game and provide , if possible , some ideas for improoving it .
This way , we both get something for free .
I get a game , you get valuable info and insight about the game .
Enough ranting .
On another note ... thank you GOTD team for all the games that you gave as ,
all this years and THANK YOU Whiterabbit-uk for the excellent job you do here
at game.giveawayoftheday.com .

JEDIGEG,

Hi G,
The giveaway team were forced to used the Themida wrapper after the original giveaways had been compromised. Basically you could find several sites dedicated to showing the community how to circumvent the original wrapper. All you needed to do was go to the hidden temp folder via the appdata folder and copy the file that appeared during installation, and rename it as an executable. This then gave you a copy of the original registered game executable with no time limits on installation. These would then be uploaded to peer to peer sites where they would be free to download. Even now if you know what to look for you may find some of those games that were given away before the Themida wrapper was added available via some peer to peer sites.

I think the giveaway team were warned that if they didn't find suitable security to protect the games they were giving away at the time , those companies who used to give us games for example Alawar and Playrix would no longer be associated with the giveawayoftheday site. so they were forced to add the Themida wrapper. Unfortunately, because Themida code can also be used to hide/wrap malware, some security software will block and even delete files that contain Themida code.

It's not an ideal situation turning off your security to guarantee installation; but as there has never been a game given away via this site that was infected with malware since the site opened in 2006, its virtually guaranteed that it is safe to temporarily turn off your security until the game has been deleted.

Whiterabbit-uk, hi .
I've read , over the years , all of your comments/answers in this site , so , I know
all about the ... "problematic" Themida wrapper . :-)
I don't have a problem , (well , I do have a small one) , with Themida wrapper , but
I understand it's necessity .
Under the current circumstances is a necessary "evil" .
If I was a inconsiderate person , I could say to GOTD Team :
find another way , or I will never set foot in this place again , or/and
I'll put a curse on youuuu (love this song ... ;-) ) , and other unnecessary stuff ...
No one is forcing me to visit the 2 GOTD sites daily .
Every place has it's rules .
When I visit , I automatically accept them .
I have the right to complain , (a little bit) , and to ask for a better solution ,
(if possible) , but it's not polite to yell , shout and demand ...
Besides , I believe that the Team consists from intelligent , logical people ,
that are aware of the fact , that the use of Themida is hurting their business .
So , I am sure that they are looking for a better solution to the problem .
Also , it's' not a secret that after the implementation of Themida , they've lost
a lot of visitors , but , on the other hand , they were also loosing a lot of game
providers (before Themida) .
That's a tricky problem to solve and a hard choice to make ...
No visitors , no site , no income ...
No game providers , nothing to offer , no way to have an income ...
So , the bottom line is that , at the moment , the use of Themida is , as i said
before , is a necessary "evil" .

Maybe it will work under Windows XP 64-Bit. Which, by the way, you can install.. Your license is valid for 32 an 64-Bit versions.

But yeah, the version should be made clear by the dev of the game until 32-Bit is extinct.

Burni, hi .
Thanks for the info about Windows XP 64-Bit ,
but I will need a new HDD to install them and
that's not possible ... for now ...
