This is the first time this game has been offered as a Game Giveaway. It's an old game, with slightly pixilated graphics, but the game play is solid enough to be worth checking out. There's nothing exceptional about the game play, but I enjoyed playing the game for short bursts as it does have some slight differences to the usual match 3 game (i.e. it's not strictly a match 3).

Pantheon - Valley of Gods is a match two or more puzzle game.

The Game

Pantheon is a match game where you only require two tiles to create a match. There are three modes of play:

1) ... Classic - Time based play, complete a level within the allotted time.
2) ... Puzzle - Solve puzzles in a limited amount of time.
3) ... Relaxed - No time limits

As you progress the levels become steadily harder to complete. Each level ends in a 'Level Results' stats info panel that lists your score, the number of combo's and moves you've made and the time it took to complete the level. It also informs you who made the fewest moves and the best time (both in yellow text). The top ten highest scores are recorded on the leader board for each of the modes of play.

The game is divided into stages, each stage is made up of several levels. When each stage is complete you unlock a new deity. Each deity according to legend bestows various positive attributes such as wisdom, power and fortune to anyone who completes the entire pantheon. When you've completed a deity; for example, the cow, where in Hinduism the cow is a symbol of wealth, strength, abundance, selfless giving and a full earthly life you move on to the next stage, where each level adds a segment of the next deity. Once you've completed the image of a deity you end the stage. Another deity you'll unlock on your travels is Surya the sun deity who is the bearer of light, healing and the all seeing eye of the Gods and celestial guard.

Also artefacts are unlocked at various stages; for example, the hammer which enables you to remove a single tile or the Breath of Agni that knocks down all of the gems vertically, horizontally and diagonally.
Various trophies are awarded for example making 10 quick successful moves in a row, activating seven powerups in a single move or earning 5000 points in a single move. There are sixteen different awards.

Overall a nice game with enough variation to keep you entertained for half an hour or so at a time. Though after a while if you continue to play the game does become a little tedious. It's great for coffee or other short breaks. Despite it's age, it still looks good and each stage introduces a new background image. Definitely one to keep for those spare moments.

The latest game from Epic Games is the excellent RTS game Wargame: Red Dragon; i.e. engage in a large-scale conflict between Western forces and the Communist bloc. From 4p.m. Thursday 11th March the free game changes to the excellent Surviving Mars, a Mars based RTS game that was also given away earlier last year.
