Sucks when the capital ships get above you. There's nothing to do but sit there and take the damage until they go past or until they come back into range. Other than that it was a nice diversion.

Slick and stunning game! If you have a laptop, the keys you need are L/R/U/D arrows for aiming, Left Ctrl = fire, S = shield and keys 1 , 5 toggle weapons! ENJOY!

Installed and ran fine on windows XP SP3 on the menu under options you can select mouse sensitivity and I ended up setting it at either 1 or 0 but settings seem to work much better than the default. Not to bad a game doubt if I would pay for it though if that was my only option to get this game. Not to bad for a bit of mindless destruction to help relieve stress. All in all thanks GOTD. If I could make a suggestion would like to seea good RPG if possible? (not online type though)

It took me over 12 hours and over 20 attempts at various times through the day to finally get the game downloaded. I don’t have time to write a full review now as I’m going out very soon to sample the delights of Orlando’s many theme parks. :)
When installed Orbital destruction unpacks to 142Mb and by default will install to:
C:\Games\OrbitalDestruction
There is no shortcut created during the installation process, but you can easily create one once the game has been installed. This is another space turret game from Hand Made Games (not dissimilar to Star Warriors 2: Defender, given away last year) and after playing it for about half an hour I was quite impressed. The graphics are a big improvement over previous hand made games and the game play has also improved.
If you like space orientated shooters then you’ll like this space turret shooter. There are 20 missions to work through, each successive mission getting longer and harder to win, well that’s if you forget to use your shield, lol.
The game is controlled by the mouse and you can select from six different weapons that include missiles, gravity guns as well as plasma and pulse weapons. Once you’ve acquired the appropriate weapon you can access it via the numbers 1 to 6 or change them via the middle mouse button. Firing your weapon by the Left Mouse Button and using your defence shield via the Right mouse button.
You are attacked by waves of fighters and then battleships; the latter are much harder to destroy. Some destroyed fighters leave bonuses behind which you must shoot to gain. These contain weapon upgrades, extra energy slow downs etc. At the end of each mission you will see your mission stats which are always available to see via the mission selection screen, which will be visible once you’ve completed your first mission. Progress is saved and you can replay any mission that you’ve played previously.
Conclusion
Overall I like this game and will be keeping it. I wouldn’t say it’s the best space shooter I’ve ever played, but it’s a big improvement on previous games from this developer and I would happily give it a score of 7 out of 10. It’s not a game I’d play for more than a few levels at a time otherwise I reckon I’d get quickly bored of the repetitious game play, but that said I do still like the game. I do think most community members will be impressed by the overall look of this game. You can change the music if you don’t like it. The music format is MP3 so you should be able to make a straight swap, though I think you’ll need to rename the music you decide to use to the same names that are in the music folder, which can be found in the Nitro folder within the games main folder.
Hopefully I'll be back to my usual reviews soon. :)

Pretty fun. I wish there were screen shots posted but it is a pretty simple space turret gunner game. I love that you have to lead the enemy and use your tracers as you would a real gun. Not a bad "passtime" game.

the game install easy and defaulted to c;games, you HAVE to go to that folder and click on OD.exe to play the game, you can allways right click on that OD.exe tab and save it to your desk top to play it again. I had to go to my mouse settings and slow it down to play it better, if not, the mouse control is to fast and uncontrolable, vista, 32 bit it is a cool game, thanks for the free game today

Downloaded the 52.2Mb zipped folder from mirror link 1. Installed without a hitch on Vista 32, THUMBS UP! Total game folder size of 147 megs, and added a shortcut to the desktop for convenience. After clicking the shortcut, it opened up an intro screen and music. First thing I noticed was a "crackling" sound from the audio track. Not too bad but noticeable. No CD quality audio here, not too bad though...
The "Options" are limited to: sound volume, music volume, and mouse sensitivity. Music and sound can be turned off entirely from the menu. Screen resolution options however are not available. No help buttons or files.. prior to missions however you do get a blurb about the different weapons, and what they do. Game difficulty options are
divided into four categories: novice, experienced, master, and veteran. Novice levels were mildly challenging the first time around IMHO.
Gameplay was enjoyable and video quality good. Plenty of targets to shoot at, a few different weapons and power ups, multiple capital ships at the end of the levels. You have to find the "target boxes" on the battleships, so its more challenging than a point and shoot affair.
Gameplay was smooth with no lag on an Radeon 4850. I AM curious if it will run on my netbook with Intel GMA950 graphics. Its small size and hardware requirements would be ideal for a laptop/netbook.

Just gives black screen and background music on Windows 7 pro - 64 bit
Music also sounds as if it comes from an old scratched/dirty LP

Tried paying the game but the screen did not load properly on XP and had to discontinue using it. It came up with a typical MS error and asked if I wanted to send off the error to MS ... not what I expected for a simple .exe game.
Also, hand held mouse is required to use it properly so it's really not meant for laptop use unless you have the desire to attach one.
Thumbs down on this one ...

To fast to handle with a simple optical mouse at time I got dizzy trying to move and shoot, this game needs more work to be done.

Ok Win 7 Ultimate x32. Ignore any message Win might throw at inslall completion. Get that a lot w/ programs made earlier.
Space shooter, mouse driven. Bit like couple prior ones like this where waves of fighter ships come at you mixed in with some bonuses to shoot that refresh. Then a boss ship w/ several spots to blast.
Just played on novice to start and easy enough.
One thing at start of game launch at Main Menu. Wait like 3 seconds
for cursor to appear. It will. Don't assume it won't as I did at first. Just a lag there.
Game saves upon exit so Continue option will pick up where left on the 20 Missions. Haven't messed with the 6 weapon types much which
seem to be gained as go along. 1-5 eys for those. Options for sound, music levels & mouse sensitivity (tho seems ok on default).
8/10 rate for what it is for $10. Thanks guys.

Definitely a fun shoot-em-up game. Works fine on Windows 7 64-bit in compatibility mode (Windows Vista SP2).

Couldn't get it to work on Windows 7. Installed without a problem (though it didn't create a desktop icon) but when I launched it my screen turned black and music started to play. Hitting ESC exited the program, but nothing I did could get the start screen to load. I assume it's incompatible with my video settings, but I'm not going to change my resolution just to try a game.

Installs and runs perfectly on Win7/32.
A relatively simple, yet efficient game with good graphics. A bit hard, though, especially if the mouse is sensitive (start in Novice mode is advised for beginners).
Overall thumbs up

Really cool game, GREAT graphics! Can also use key controls, U/D/L/R etc.
A lot of fun trying to track and shoot enemy fighters, best to shoot them as they fly directly towards you! Excellent Implementation and a definite one to keep!

Had to run in XP compatible mode on my Vista64, but it did install and run fine. I did find the mouse targeting a bit touchy, but it probably brings some realism to a bizarrely fast turret.
Pretty simple, kinda like a 3d version of Galaga or perhaps the old Starlancer. If the older space shooters were your thing you would probably find this amusing.
I really like the Artistic style, reminds me of the late 90's early 2k's.

When I read that it was a Turret Game, I thought it would be a turret maze game and was disappointed to find that it isn't.
Your turret is placed central in the screen and is static. You have to move your mouse left, right, up and down to locate, and fire at, incoming enemies. My advise would be to slow the mouse response down otherwise you'll probably end up anywhere and everywhere and find it hard to actually target anything.
As previously written, hold fire and keep shield active.
I found that it got very boring very quickly. If it had actually been a turret maze game, chances are I'd have written a more favourable review. As it stands, I'm sorry but not much reason not to uninstall this one.

Hey, this is pretty cool.
Installed without a hitch.
Seems simplistic for a $10 game, for $10 you should be getting PSN quality.
Default Mouse sensitivity is very high.
No way to change video settings for higher resolution displays.
When I tried to Quit the game it stopped responding and I had to use the Windows 7 Task Manager to exit.
The games controls are very simple and easy to learn
Not seeing why not to just leave the force shield on all the time
Difficulty seems very simplistic after first few levels, requires no thinking, even the bosses are just point and shoot and hold.
