Hi, I installed it yesterday on win8 without problems. To put in the name I had the same problems as Lori till I found out that I had to use "Return/ enter" to be sussessful.
For me as non-native Englishspeaking it takes a while to understand how to play this game. But it is ok.

Thankyou for your feedback Anita, does the game save your progress, or as with other community members, when you restart the game at a later time, all progress is lost?

K, played through that level without crashing. It was day 10. Closed game normally. Reloaded, no profile. Don't have the energy to try for day 20.

It's an ok game, I like time management games. The mouse control is a little squirrelly but fairly easy to get used to. There is really no need to enter a profile if it doesn't save :P

1) to get past the papaya stage requires planting something else (peanuts) to earn enough to purchase the tree.
2) got to a stage where there a lot of predators. Shut down the game to figure search the intarwebs for instructions, none. In the process of reloading and shutting down the game I lost my profile, thought I'd quit too soon at one point and I was lost. Restarted from scratch, figured out on my own how to kill predators (right click, the cross hairs are for shot, then click on the predator). Made my way back to the many predators level. In the process of much clicking, game crashed... my profile was gone again. After committing 3 hours to this game, with no progress I'm uninstalling.

Thank you for your feedback CalamityJanet, from yours and previous commenters, there's got to be something wrong with this game. sorry you wasted so much time.

I must admit I dumped this game after my initial trial run, but in response to everyones comments I've reinstalled it, created two profiles, played a little, then closed it down, then reopened it, the profile I used had completely disappeared, and only one profile was left. I played through the Cassava stage (and was actually enjoying playing the game), then closed it down. Yep I can confirm, the game doesn't save your progress. Xing you really need to fix this game.

p.s. Just wondering whether you have to complete several stages before it saves? I've got some older games that only save progress every 10 levels. If I play to level 9 then close the game when I restart I have to start afresh, but, if I play to level 10, it saves my progress. Same goes to level 20. Another game is a little more forgiving, I only have to play five levels for a save to apply. If anyone has found this to be, please let us know. Thanks.

Installed on Windows 8.1 - only able to open in small screen.
Tried both windowed and not windowed, unable to change graphics in any fashion to make it full screen.

Cash does not increase, unable to progress past the papaya stage.

Kids interested until they were unable to progress.

Shut it down immediately.

Thank you for your feedback Deb, sorry the kids were disappointed.

As stated the tutorial text is too fast and not the best font. Also not a lot of information in the tutorial, a complete example of the task would be of help especially for younger players. Unfortunately the options selected such as windows mode are not retained after closing the game, and neither is the player name, so your progress is not saved. The gameplay is easy to follow and typical of the genre, but having to start from the first level on opening each time is tiresome and likely to make the game lose it's appeal.

Installed fine, I was able to choose the location so I put it in a separate drive that I try to use for installations of additional programs. Ran fine too, tutorial isn't really required as the game is pretty simple. Rather relentless planting with no choice of what you want to do. I would call this a time management sim, with more management than I would like. One nice feature is that it let me play in a window instead of full screen so I am able to monitor other things like emails and such with minimal fuss. Looks like it runs in low resolution so most people should be able to take advantage of this feature if they want.

Had no problems downloading on my XP3 machine. I agree with you, WR, that the tutorial is so fast that you don't have time to read it but it doesn't seem to be any different than other TS games. It would really help if a different font were used. The one in the game is kind of hard to read. I don't mind the cartoon graphics but the music needs to go.
I am getting a Windows Security Alert when I shut the game down. It is blocking a file called "Java(TM) Platform SE binary" and I don't know if I should keep blocking it or unblock it. Perhaps someone could enlighten me???
All in all, I'd give this a 5 out of 10 rating. Thanks to you, WR and the entire GGOTD team.

By default, most programs are blocked by Windows Firewall to help make your computer more secure. To work properly, some programs might require you to allow them to communicate through the firewall. It is still more secure to allow program in FW exception list then to allowing a port

Java is used by lots of programs including last weeks game giveaway.

From the message you are getting I suspect you've previously blocked JAVA from updating. The message is just a reflection of this and in no way will harm your computer. JAVA is a legitimate software which is frequently updated. That said, because of it's ubiquitous nature on peoples computers it's also a prime candidate for attack. If the game runs without JAVA and you aren't running other software that requires JAVA to be updated, i'd just ignore the message and leave it at that. It may be in the future a new piece of software you install may require a newer version of JAVA. also, allowing JAVA to be updated may also prevent it from being exploited becasue those updates often include security updates.

Some community members always post that if JAVA is required as part of a game installation they wont install it; for some reason they think it's a resource eater, or possibly something less secure. I personally have always allowed JAVA to update on my computer and have never noticed any slow down, or other problems. You have to weigh up whether you can do without JAVA based programs if you are going to prevent it from installing or updating.

Please excuse the long winded explanation. If anyone disagrees with what I'm saying, please do comment as I do not consider myself competent where Technical issues are involved. I'm a builder of computers, not a software expert.

Just been kicked off my main computer as my son friend has come for the afternoon, and they wanted to play some coop games. I've been consigned to an older computer. Just installed the game and got the following message when I started the game up. That would lead me to believe that this game may require JAVA. A allowed the update to go ahead.

java

Same as many of your games lately, type your name in as a new player and it just deletes it and you can't play the game.

..................................Moderator comment..............................

Hi Lori, I hd problems trying to get my name accepted initially. It's just an awkward way to add a new profile to the game. When the game opens, click on the button to the far left bottom of the game area, this opens up a window. Type in your name then press return. That should set up your profile.

The game requires Java.

It's a basic time management farming game. There's nothing new or special I can see about it.

Wow. I am completely underwhelmed. Crappy looking program with a time management theme that has been done to death. No independant creativity here; variations on a theme. Twenty-seven thumbs down.

But it wont start/run the program. so i deleted all and started again but still it wont start the program
tried another computer with W7 - same thing.
Not sure of the problem

................................Moderator comment..............................

Hi Krystal, sound like the same problem i had running it on my old win 7 machine which only had 6GB of System RAM, a 2GB gRAM graphics card and a dual core 2.4GHz cpu. When i clicked on the games shortcut, it took over a minute for it to boot up.

Didn't realize there was going to be a game today. So haven't prepared a review. I may write up one later if I have time. There is a nice looking game available tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvinience.

After a quick play, was thinking this game was perfect for the young uns, partly due to the cartoon like graphics, but the tutorial was appalling, thankfully game play is relatively straight forwards, so most adults should find it a breeze.

With respect to the tutorial, I barely had time to read the instuction that flashed up on screen; they passed so quickly I only had time to read part of them. Also they wern't very easily read due to the color of the text and the background color.

It's not obvious from a cursory visit how you play this game, but with an adult in tow, it should be easy enought to figure it out. It seems like a typical farming Time Management game, but there's times where you are twiddling your thumbs waiting for the crops to ripen. I only played the game for 10 minutes initially (I revisted the game for at least another hour after reading some of the feedback later in the day), so it may be as you progress you can have several crops maturing at different times, so there will always be something to do. I will attempt to continue later once I've had a couple more hours sleep.

later.......:

Judging by the abysmally low positive score on this game, I wont be bothering to write up a review. Some of the comments already made sum up this game.

I didn't get any sound on my Win 8.1 computer and on this Win 7 machine, the game took over a minute to boot up once I'd clicked on the shortut.

Unusually (for a giveaway game), we do get a shortcut placed on the desktop during the installation of this game, and there's an uninstaller in the Start menu programs list. If you are using Win 8 it will be easier just to go to the installed folder to use the uninstaller. :)

further comments.................

After reading comments from the last 12 hours and checking the game by creating more than one profile and playing as far as fruit harvesting, it's obvious that the game is broken. Basically one of the two profiles I created and then played four levels disappeared totally when I closed the game down, not only the game progress, but the profile as well. The first profile remained, but whenever I played a few levels, then closed the game down, all progress was lost. I don't know whether playing more levels will eventually come to a save point? I just didn't have the time to continue to test the game further.

As mentioned in one of my replies to a community member comment below, I did mention that I have several older games that don't save until you've played several levels; in one of the games you have to play 10 levels before it saves your progress (I think its one of the earlier Ricochet breakout games but not played it in a few years so can't be sure).

Overall Xing need to repair this game if they want it to sell. I do hope they read these comments, and even better leave a comment themselves. It's rare that we get feedback from the developers themselves.

Thank you to the community for your contribution this week. The feedback has been excellent. :)
