This game crashed my computer. Really crashed it.

I couldn't figure the game out at first. I tried this and that and finally figured it out. I started the first level anew. I collected my first flash, jumped...and frozen. It froze and crashed so badly, the game wouldn't allow me to bring up Task Manager. I tried control/alt/delete numerous times, no response. I had to shut down the entire system by using the power switch. And this is a modern computer, not some ancient dinosaur.

Thus, I dislike this game intensely. Anything that will cause such a bad crash on a modern computer is worthless.

Sorry for the late reply. Was away all day yesterday, got back really late. Did you check compatibility mode, making sure admin was checked? Also changing various other aspects such as screen res etc. No one else reported such catastrophic issues, though those that did report issues, it seems to me could be fixed using compatibility mode. The game isn't new, so maybe trying some of the above changes may help? Did you check your event logs following the crashes? Often there are clues to why the crash occurred. regards W.R.

Thank you WR and JDP!

WR, Thank you and no worries. :) I did plan on trying compatibility mode, though I want to make sure it's the first thing I run, as I fully expect it to crash again. :( Funny thing is this is specifically a graphics computer, so it shouldn't have issues at all. :(

JDP, I'm guessing if you had issues with a modern computer, I will, too, though I still plan to try compatibility mode. :( And I agree...it really is a shame because it's quite a different and interesting game! I had this once before with a GAOTD game and nothing would fix it...it just crashed. But at least that one let me close it through Task Manager.

Did you also have the issue of Task Manager simply not showing up? On mine it looked like it was going to do something, brought up the blue screen with the choices, but in the end choosing Task Manager did nothing. :(

Of course it's the best games that have problems. :(

JDP, Argh, I can completely relate! I didn't even get beyond the first level. Collected one flash on the first level, whatever it was, then that was it. I agree...this game would normally be a keeper. I haven't tried any compatibility modes yet, but hold little hope for any result beyond what you had. :( To so thoroughly freeze with no response at all, no Task Manager, no anything, was so far beyond any error in any other game!

Sod's law for sure! :(

Nice Game! I had no problems whatsoever downloading, installing, or playing. I am using Windows 10 (Spring Update) on an older Alienware desktop. The first lever was self explanatory. It basically said collect 100 "white" things to complete level and 3 "fragment" to see more of the "story". I am not sure why people were having problems playing. For those of you who are not new to this site, you should know by know that 75% of the time you will need to disable your antivirus to install and exclude folder from antivirus. The "wrappers" show up as false positives and with these type of games, I usually just run them to run as administrator and apply compatibility for windows 8 or whatever. Anyways thanks!

whenever I run, I get the error:

engine.exe has stopped working.

downloaded twice, installed, uninstalled, re-installed, 4 times.

Finally, uninstalled.

Very difficult game, IMO. I couldn't get past the first level! Jumping is difficult to judge.

Sorry for the late reply. Possibly changing the screen resolution may fix the problem?regards W.R.

I bought this a few years ago for my previous PC. Very nice to get it again on the new(er) PC! I think of OIO as a relaxing puzzler. Graphics are well done, the game play is unusual. You move your character from place to place by growing beams and climbing on them.
The challenge lies planning how to build them to move to the next area, timing your jumps, aiming the seeds you shoot to start a new beam, and finding all the artifacts (3 per level). Timing and aiming don't need to be pixel-perfect but it's easy to make mistakes if you're not careful.

There are lots of achievements, like getting through a level without dying, using less than 46 beams on level 3, etc. So this game could be quite difficult if you insist on getting all of them. If you're like me and looking for a peaceful diversion, then you don't need to worry so much about hitting spikes or falling into a pit or trying different ways to get to the next place. If your character does die, the screen goes black and and after a few seconds you restart very close to where you died -- so no need to restart a level from the beginning.

Press the Esc key to bring up the menu and you can change key and controller buttons to what you want, graphics resolution, etc. I played using mouse to aim and shoot seeds, and keys (A,D,W) to move left, right and jump. No need to memorize dozens of keys and combos, just simple controls that let you focus on exploring the game instead of your fingers. Music sets a good mood.

This one's a keeper! Thanks GGOTD and MyPlayCity.

The only good thing I can say about this is the graphics are superb! The opening is way too long and I almost gave up. There is no indication of what the objective is, no opening greeting, no way to stifle the annoying sound other than to turn down my speakers. I almost gave up before the game started. I'm not one for using the keyboard to control movement, so, in my book, there's another strike against this game. I'd love to keep this one because it looks like it has a lot of promise, but unless you provide a way to use the mouse or joystick to control game movement and provide adequate instructions for game play then this one gets deleted.

You get a 10 for effort and a 1 for execution.

hi got loaded down after second attempt ,the first attempt seems there was no contents in the zip file..
Game seems ok but the introductory not so good as one need to understand what is the whole story is about. Game play is good with 3d graphics is awesome .

I like this game! Very different from other games I've downloaded from GGAOTD. Works with keyboard and mouse or game controller. The game starts in a weird sort of cavern filled with what looks like the XP 3D Pipes screen saver gone absolutely stark raving mad. Getting OIO to jump from one pipe to another is a bit of a trick, and so is breaking the "lightbulb" things with the balls he throws when you click. Graphics are good and the sound isn't annoying and can be easily adjusted. There are plenty of OIO videos on Youtube. I'm going to enjoy this game.

I had no clue what kind of game this was until I went to its website.

So for anyone else wondering what this is (HOG? platformer? physics game?) it's kinda like Sonic but with (IMHO) nicer graphics, so I'd say it's a platformer where you collect all the 'bits' and the occasional power-up.

Not my kind of game, but I'm sure many of you will love it!

My game won't open. I get a black screen, then nothing, and goes to the web page. Tried uninstalling and reinstalled. same thing happened.

Luise, It sounds like a graphics issue. Make sure you have Direct X installed. It also requires a 2.5Ghz processor so make sure your computer has the power to handle it.
