An exciting game where you act as a soldier facing other soldiers in the city.

The game has 7 locations with special tasks. You must fulfill them until the end of the day. It can be used to collect N amount of oil or earn several thousand $.
To start playing, you need to choose the complexity of the game.
There are 5 difficulty levels (easy-normal-difficult-very complicated-insane). It is recommend to put it on easy or normal to start. After selecting the difficulty, you are moved to the location selection.
At each of the locations there is a different atmosphere. When you hit the location you are given the opportunity to look around, after which you can hire a geologist for $ 200, which shows the approximate location of the oil.

Or you can manually guess the source. At light levels of complexity, oil is often seen on the surface, so the complexity within the search is minimized.
Buy an oil rig for $ 1000, and immediately after you can buy an oil storage tank. After installing the tank, you choose the depth of the well. The deeper, the more money you need to spend. You can be lucky and get an oil, but you if missed a bit - you can hit the edge of the source. Every second the oil source becomes smaller, and as a result, the oil rig stops working. At this point the game is not FINISHED. You can sell the current tower for $ 400 together with the tank and set a NEW one. You can buy an unlimited number of towers, but at one location there can't be no more ONE. After the tank has the right amount of oil you put it in a bucket and carry it for sale. Do not put the tower too far from the market. Time is important here. The rate can random pop up between 0.20 $ / 1 unit of oil (in one bucket without pumping 15 units of oil). Wait for a better course ($ 3-4) and then sell. For each oil sale you get 15 units of experience, when you reach the right amount, you level-up. You get improvements for each level. You spend them on a bunch buns that improve the gameplay and make it more dynamic, everything happens faster.

delenn13,

Thanks Delenn for the heads up, been a little remiss at checking recently due to life being manic. hope hubby is fully recovered?
I posted a comment over at Chrono re: the Sci Fi book for children thread. Though my name is a weird jumble of letters. Don't know how that happened?

Anon,
Hi Anon, Try clicking on the Exit button in the top right hand corner. That should take you to the actual game. I thought the game was frozen initially, but when i clicked on the exit button it took me to the beginning of the first level.

Hi S. / Whiterabbit-uk,
Thank you very much for being so kind as to offer me your advice / tip.
However , I have tried the game maybe 5 times and it leaves me stranded at same spot every time....
I have tried everything including frantic clicking on everything in sight including the 'exit button' , but the only thing is the close the game window top right X - which shuts down the game..

Anon,
Hi again, :)

When I boot up the game I initially get a short introduction/tutorial where you have to click on the screen to proceed to the next stage. Once the tutorial scree has finished you should be left with the first image below. If I click anywhere on the screen it appears that the game is frozen. To actually start the actual game play you need to press the enter key on your keyboard. This will then open up the difficulty selection screen as in the second image below. Once you've selected the difficulty and pressed the button, the game will automatically start. There is a clock indicator along the top that will slowly move indicating that the game is ready to go.

If the above doesn't work; have you tried going into compatibility mode and changing some of the parameters. For example make sure the admin check box is ticked and try changing the screen resolution as it may be the monitor resolution you are using isn't native to the game so collision mesh positions may not line up.

Also, check the FAQ's thread over in the Game Discussion forums sticky section.

I hope one of the above fixes the issue?

S. / Whiterabbit-uk,
Yes that helped (using enter key) , thank you very much.
I am sitting here feeling a little stupid for not going crazy on the keyboard as well rather than just clicking...
I am really not going to become good friends with the interface of this game (or the lack of help for it) any time soon...
Thank you very much for the assistance :-)

Anon,
It's easy enough to do, I've done the same thing. :) Personally I think this game has been copied from a similar game called Turmoil, which has better graphics and more diverse game play. Thanks for letting me know it worked. :)

Whiterabbit-uk, /S.

Yes S. , you are absolutely right, Oil Baron looks like a knock off of Turmoil, I couldn't remember Turmoil myself so I were initially very confused over Oil Baron because I could remember having seen Turmoil but thought that Oil Baron were Turmoil.
Anyway , I will get a copy of Turmoil myself instead since it is available on both GOG and Steam - were I though on the friends list of a certain 'Brit' still do not have Turmoil ;-) :-D

Oil Baron
In Brief
An oil mining management game using the free Construct 2 engine.
Ashampoo-Snap-22-November-2019-08h30m07s-001

Ashampoo-Snap-22-November-2019-08h30m32s-002
The Game:
Today's game looks like a cross between those early miner games like manic miner and a resource gathering game. :) There are seven locations to explore with certain tasks that you must complete, these tasks enable you to earn lots of cash and.or large amounts of oil. At the start of the game you can choose from five difficulty modes that include:
Easy: This has the most sources of oil that are large reserves and ther eis a high chance of finding oil on the surface, indicating where to/Hard drill.

Normal: This has many sources of oil that are moderate in size with a moderate chance of finding oil on the surface

Difficult: There are few sources of oil with small reserves and only a small chance of finding signs of oil on the surface.

Very complicate/very hard: There are few sources of oil found and what you find will be small reserves. There's no chance of finding oil on the surfaced.

Insane/Crazy: Very few sources of oil, almost absent, with tiny reserves only. It's impossible to find any signs of oil on the surface.

Once you've chosen the difficulty you can then choose one of several locations that include The Manor of fitts, Oil Station, The Storm Manor, Farm of Winston, Pass and Wasteland. Whichever you choose you are give a short period to check the site out, and employ a geologist that will cost you money to hire ($200). As you progress there are specific levels that give you upgrades for example when you pass level 3 you will get a brief glimpse of where the oil fields are, this gives you an opportunity to select a suitable place to build your rig to ensure you get the largest amount of oil from the well before having to place a new drill elsewhere. Two levels on (i.e level 5) your research by your geologist is 10% faster and by level 7 you are able to carry more oil to sell, level 10 raises the price of the oil you sell as well as their being more sources of oil You can see from one of the images below the various upgrades that are available.
Rigs can only be placed on open ground. If there are any obstructions the indicator that covers the size of the rig will be red. when you find a clear patch, it will change to green. Once a rig has been situated, you then need to buy and place a storage tank that will temporarily store any oil you drill for. Locate the tank next to the rig and with your LMB click for each length of pipe you require. To extend or make a branch in the pipe press the LMB twice on the rig, then an icon with a pipe will appear. To place the extension or branch click on the red dot that appears at the end of the first pipe that automatically appears when you place the oil storage tank. Keep hold of that pipe with your mouse pointer until you have selected exactly where you want it to be. The pipe needs to be inserted into a reservoir of underground oil for the tank to fill, once it is full you approach the tank with your character and scoop up a bucket of oil and return to the market and sell it. From the sale you earn money (in dollars) and experience.

As mentioned previously, there will be improvements added as you increase in levels. Spending some of your earnings on a geologist from level 3 will enable you to roughly determine where oil can be found (this is where your geologist will reveal all the oil reserves under the ground for a very short period). If you don't spend cash on a geologist, you will save some money, but conversely you may also lose out on finding that big reserve that could potentially earn you a lot more money and also know approximately where to place the pipes for maximum profit. If you had guessed where the oil is, drilling may be more of an hit and miss affair depending on the difficulty you have selected. On the easiest levels the location of oil reserves may be given away by leakage onto the surface, so not spending money on a geologist may be a wise move, at higher difficulty levels you won't see these signs, so the geologist's fee becomes much less important compared to the profits you could potentially make knowing roughly where that black gold is.
Once you've chosen the site where you want to locate your well, you have to purchase a rig and a storage tank. Also the deeper you want to drill, the more money you will require to pay for longer pipe lengths. It's important to get the location of you pipes as central within the reserve as you can because as you remove oil, the reserve shrinks. If you start to remove oil with too short or too long a pipe, (the length of pipe is determined by the LMB when you add each section to the initial pipe, which is also controlled length wise by the movement of the LMB) you'll find the oil rig stops taking the oil because the pipe is no longer located withing the oil reserve, despite there still being oil present. Once the oil rig stops you have to sell the rig, tank and the oil you've recovered.

ss-5982f3a05d98dfd9f6302835eac3bf689d6fe030
The further away from the market the rig is located the longer it takes to sell the oil. When you first start drilling in a location, you can send your porter out to look for signs of oil on the surface (only in the easier difficulty modes). Time is an important factor in this game because there is a countdown timer telling you how long you have before the end of the level. When you reach the end you will be awarded up to three stars depending on how successful you were, plus some stats will be quoted such as the total you earned, the total amount spent and the total production of oil. The price of oil can fluctuate dramatically, for example rates can fluctuate from £0.20 to $4 per unit of oil; so if you sell at the wrong time you will not make as much profit. The profits you do make from the sale of tyour exhausted oil rig and oil can then be used to build more rigs. Each bucket of oil you sell equates to 15 units of oil and once sold you also gain 15 points of experience. The steam version of this game HERE also features 14 achievements, but the version we have is a free standing non Steam version, so you don't get the achievements. You can see several Steam community reviews of todays game .
You can see a few in-game videos of game play for Oil Baron HERE, HERE & HERE.

The aim of the game is to make as much money as you can within a certain amount of time. There is an indicator along the top of the game screen that tells you how much time you have left. The money you earn from selling the oil can be spent on various upgrades and other items such as a mole that will dig and locat oil, the mole can also be upgraded to be more efficient at finding oil. You can also buy housing of various types such as a caravan, small garage, country house, house and cottage,. Purchasing these enables you to employ more porters for collecting the oil and selling it, speeding up the process especially when the price of oil is high. You can also improve the rig to make it more efficient at collecting oil and trying to sell the oil when the price is high and store it when the price is low.
Conclusion:
Despite the game feeling a little repetitive, I would have considered buying this on Steam as I did find the game mildly entertaining, however there were a few concerns that would need addressing before I would consider buying this game via Steam. But the fact that there are quite a few un -translated Russian text within the game, which does affect game play significantly as well as there being very little instruction that is easily understandable. I did find the and it does have potential if the developer made a few changes including translating all the text to English when selecting the English mode and adding some better background environments. My two main concerns are that not all the game has been translated, for example pressing R while in game brings up the bank, but everything is in Russian and I haven't a clue what I'm supposed to do, so a decent help would also be a must have. There is a short tutorial when you first open the game, but its poorly delivered and a little confusing as its done with still images instead of an animated one. With respect to the poorly translated English mode; I've tried clicking on the three items you can find when you bring the bank up, (see images below). Also, when you do click on one of the three items, a small message either in Green (indicating it was a successful transaction) or red (indicating a negative transaction) appears in the bottom right of the screen with various information, all of which is in Russian which I cannot understand. My second concern is that Oil Baron appears to be a copy (minus a few extras) of another mining management game called Turmoil. The graphics are similar, though Turmoil looks 'a little' nicer graphically and the game play is virtually the same except you get a scanner instead of a geologist to find oil reserves. Plus Turmoil also includes selling gas as well. Because of the un translated portions of the game I wasn't able to explore the game much, just to check the different scenarios, which apart from some slight coloring and in one level a dark sky and rain, the levels looks virtually the same. These could have been much improved by having different style buildings in each level and maybe even different rigs.
