Well, it's something a bit different! Worth having a try, so I downloaded it. It's nicely designed, and so far not hard to play - though it will of course get harder!

I didn't fancy Sudoku until I tried it . . . I think this one could become quite addictive too.

Simple games are good for passing the time during a break, and this one looks like a goodun for my purposes. Thank you!

This looks to be a very fun game. But the game didn't register my mouse clicks when it should have and messed up the sequence. By the time the first click registered, I had already clicked the second and/or third number and the sequence wasn't correct. I ran out of time before I should have because of the slow response. I had to stop playing because I play to relax not get a frustration headache when the game doesn't work properly. Excellent and fun game if it worked right.

Hi Juanita

Try dragging the mouse across each of the additions to the equals instead of clicking. Click the mouse on the first number, drag across the ones you want to add together then when on the solution release the mouse..

Hey Wabbit,

I don't think i will be posting any more games from Giveaway Club. They have gotten too aggressive with their hidden or deceiving installations of unwanted software(PUPs, etc). But I will keep my eye out for other games.
Indie Gala has a new free game.. It's now....
The Adventurer - Episode 1: Beginning of the End https://www.indiegala.com/dieyoung?massive#giveaway

As far as the GGOTD..Boy, does Numericon bring back memories. I used to play it a lot because I like the Sudoku games. For it's time the graphics were pretty. The only thing to improve this game would be to add a mode that is not timed. Especially for figuring out the game when you first start playing. I haven't downloaded it yet because I have to disable my Malwarebytes Pro..but I will. It will tax the brain matter.

Thanks to GGOTD and MPC for the opportunity to try this game and the Wrascally Wabbit for his review.

Huggles to you and the family. Sorry I haven't been posting a lot..Been busy since I got back with lots of things. I have tried to keep up on the forum at least.

Thank you for the update.
I remember this. 10 years ago when it was given away it was ideal for my 6 and 8 year olds. I used to play it with them a lot for quite a few months. Call gets his a level results in 3 days and will know whether he's secured a place on his M. Pharm (Master of Pharmacy) course at Manchester Uni. He needs 2 x A's and a B to be accepted. We are worried about one of his results, but two should be okay. Fingers crossed.

Whiterabbit - I was wondering if your kids had their results, Fingers crossed! :-)

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Mac

My sons A level results come out on Thursday morning. After lunch time he will be able to check is UCAS applications to see if he has been accepted onto the M. Pharm course that he applied for. My daughters GCSE results come out the following Thursday 24th August. My son is burying his head into his favorite game except when he's on the phone to his girlfriend who is away on vacation at the moment. My daughter is in Switzerland with the girl guides until next week, so comes home to the news of Cals sucess or failure. fingers crossed. Whatever his results he does have one unconditional offer, but it's not Pharmacy, but Pharmacutical science. The difference being that with the latter it would mean his job options are limited to research only. He wants to be a pharmacist, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that he worked hard enough. He's worried about one of his results as he felt he made too many mistakes on one of the papers. We shall see. Thanks for asking. :).

Wow, Meridian '93! Good memories!
Game is pretty good, although I wish there were an option that is not timed. Like some others, I play games to relax, not be timed to complete a task or mission. I have enough of that in the RW.

Thank you, Game GAOTD and MPC! (and of course, good 'ol Meridian '93!)

Part of the strategy of this is the use of the numbers. Using 8 as a total, if I used two numbers, such as 4+4=8, I won 16 points. If I used three numbers, such as 3+3+2=8, I won 24 points. If I used four numbers, I won 32 points. Larger combinations seemed to make the game pretty happy too. This strategy becomes a drawback when doing the ones where you need to use up all the numbers.

I couldn't quite follow the description of the 'game' -- it really seemed like the last thing from a game to me. A better description is it's sort of like a flashcard drill for young children to practice their addition skills. Because that's basically the whole idea: click or drag a sequence of tiles so the last number is the sum of the ones before it. Like 3+3+2=8. Whoopie. That's it. I can't see how anyone over second or third grade would play this game for more than a few minutes before being bored out of their minds.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

There are loads of bonuses and not to mention the frog that eats bonuses. Personally i play a lot of games from most game genres and although not aimed at adults, didn't find this boring at all. With a head injury that affects my memory, I actually found this a good exercise practicing my mental arithmetic. The early levels are relatively easy, but they do get harder as you progress. Each to their own. I think I originally scored this a 7 out of 10. At the time I was still a dedicated shmup and breakout fan, rarely playing other genres. it was this site that gave me the inspiration to try other types of games and now love most (don't like some TM games, and I do find most of those manga anime story games a little tedious. This game is not bad and woul;d still score it a 7 out of 10. Maybe the addition of some mini games would spice the game up and maybe add a story to follow. :) Thanks for your feedback Susan; appreciated.

This download is listed as 18.2Mb in size - yet the setup file is in fact 48.7 Mb. Sounds nitpicky to mention it, but when you have limited data access it makes a difference.

#justsaying.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Ikhukhu

I don't understand what you are getting at? The download size for Numericon is 18.2MB (as listed). I re checked the size of the download just to be sure. Even if the set up file was as you said 48.7 MB which it isn't, it shouldn't affect your limited data access because there is no data credits used to install the game. The set up files are 2.42 Mb for the set up file and 16.2 MB for the setup.gcd file and once installed the game is just over 22MB. I don't know how much bandwidth would be used to contact the giveaway site for the game to be activated (i.e. phoning home), but it's insignificant and would not be as much as you are quoting . Where did you get the 48.7MB from?

Reply   |   Comment by Ikhukhu  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-4)

Ikhukhu, Aaaand what's more, the link provided in the email is in fact NOT for the game, but for the download manager. Thanks a lot.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi again Ikhukhu

I don't use the email response so cannot comment on that, but I've never seen any one complain about it before. As for getting a link to a download manager. The game giveaway does not use download managers. Maybe you've clicked on a link that you shouldn't have? (just trying to make suggestions and am not trying to be clever etc. Always here to help with issues. If you think there is a problem please contact the giveaway team HERE

Ikhukhu, I never use the email thing either but fr the heck of it I did the email route this time to see what he is talking about. The poster did not understand or read the page he was sent to. As a gesture and because I trust GOTD I have adblock disabled on this site and he is talking about an ad on that page for the (in)famous free downloadmanager. He most likely failed to spot the link that very confusing is called "the link" in the line "Click the link to download." and he just clicked the first thing he noticed which is the ad that also very confusing has been labeled "advertising"
bad gotd

This installed ok, when I disabled my anti-virus (avast) for 10 minutes, which I have to do now with any games from this site.
However I tried the puzzle mode, and am 'puzzled' as I can not work out which tiles to group, is it a sequence, do they have to add up to some set number? A hint button would be helpful. I might try the other modes some time, but found it totally frustrating.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Barbara

The puzzle mode has the same basic game play as the survival mode but you have to try and remove all the pieces from the playing area. You cannot leave a tile as an orphan tile. All tiles that you use must be contiguous. You can restart the level, but doing so you will lose one life.

I guess the word "clade" (as in: "find the hidden clade!") comes from the developers? I didn't think it was an English word, but I was wrong; Oxford defines it as:
"A group of organisms believed to comprise all the evolutionary descendants of a common ancestor."
Um … right.
But I'm still guessing the developers actually meant either "code" or perhaps "glade." Any thoughts on that, Stephen? "Code" seems unlikely to me, because there doesn't seem (?) to be a bunch of numbers left at the end of a level that will "unlock" anything; and the flowery design of the game makes me think the reward at the end is likely to be a Nice Picture :), possibly of a glade?
Anyway I was just wondering because the word "clade" in the headline above originally had me baffled!

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Cad

I thought it may have been Code as well, but I wrote the review over 10 years ago and cannot remember the references I may have used. I usually reference any material that I use, but not in this case; however, have since discovered it was from Big Fish games. And after playing the game again for a while do think they have made a spelling error, though having five letters, I initially thought it wasn't possible; that said, knowing what my keyboard is like (it is a gaming keyboard {A Razer Black Widow Ultimate Stealth}, with very sensitive keys), sometimes my sausage like fingers catch 2 or 3 other keys, which are registered with the one that was intended, so I'm going to change the word to code as it seems appropriate for a word based game. (that said as A and L are at opposite ends of a standard keyboard, I'm still not 100% sure). :)

Installed and played well on W10 pro 64bit.
It could be a great maths game but
it could use better instructions with the power ups and what you're actually trying to do in the level. eg complete a sequence with 6 in it or is it use a sequence that adds up to six? Collect a certain number of jewels or do something that makes the jewels appear or ?
(Also the jewels are hard to catch. )
I was left confused with what to do.

I remember this game when it was offered years ago and was glad to see it again. You have to match the numbers to make a sum eg 1113 easy to learn but is challenging at the same time. The one thing that would make it better would be to make it fit my wide screen.

Suggestions:
After you've had an opportunity to play today's giveaway please give some feedback about your opinion of the game, for example, what you liked or disliked about it, or how it could be improved from your point of view . If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What, improvements, if any, would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality?

Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or good may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would 'you' give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only needs a few moments of your time.
This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free instead of complaining about the way this site has changed, for example, they don't like MPC games, they hate HOG's, have had enough of Match Three and Time Management games, or they want to see the latest version of Call of Duty or some other big name AAA game given away or that they don't like Steam games. If something isn't for you then please move on to the next giveaway, or check out the forums HERE, HERE and HERE, where a few members of the community post details of various free games and free game sites as well as links to various indie bundle sites etc; you never know, you may find something that really interests you.

Introduction:
The game was originally given away way back in March 2007 a few months after the game site was opened, where the community gave it an 85% positive thumbs up out of 219 votes. You can see the community comments HERE. It was given away the following year January 2008, where it received 70% positive votes out of 428 and garnered 56 community comments, which you can see HERE. I also posted a short review in the forums HERE, part of which I've re-posted today.
It's time to train your memory! You think that you are good at counting? Numericon is a challenging adventure that gives you a chance to check it! This puzzle with numbers will never let you be bored! Well, let's start! Make chains of numbers and remember that the last tile should be as big as the sum of the previous figures. There are three modes at your choice - adventure, puzzle and survival. Playing adventure game you have to get through lots of levels where every following is trickier than the previous one. It's the best workout for your brains! Watch the sand-glass, and think as fast as you can! Solving the eye-teasers you can get some power-ups and skills - increase your time or just freeze it, enlarge the number of remaining attempts or double your points. By the way, you can select the bonus yourself. Sometimes you'll see the jewels on the tiles - break them and catch extra points!

Playing Numericon puzzle mode concentrate on the gameplay without paying attention to the time left. Forget about everything and enjoy the game! Keep in mind that you are to build the chain in such a way that all the tiles will disappear from the field. Here you should take into account all possible paces. If you like to risk, you'd better choose Survival stage. Here you have to sharpen your wit! The time is limited, hurry up and be flat-out to win! No doubt, Numericon will be in the list of your favorite logical games! You can download this remarkable collection of puzzles with numbers right now absolutely for free!

You can also post details of problems in the forums HERE, where it's more likely to be answered after the giveaway ends.
The Game:
You can set up multiple profiles and when ending a level you can return to the same spot whenever you decide to return. The options menu enables you to set the game for full screen (default) or windowed mode, as well as have a custom cursor. There is also a toggle for hardware acceleration and another toggle for turning on and off in game tips.
Ashampoo_Snap_2017.08.13_14h05m41s_014_Numericon

1-5f_Gameplaytype-_Adventure-levelcom
There are three game modes: Survival - You select a sequence of numbers to complete a sum by dragging the mouse from one number to the next for example 4+2=6 including the jewels that can be found scores bonus points. You have to score as many points as you can before the time runs out, which is indicated by an hour glass to the right of the screen. You can reshuffle the board if required, though this will take up valuable time from the sand trickling out of the timer.
Puzzle Mode - This has the same basic game play as the survival mode but you have to try and remove all the pieces from the playing area. You cannot leave a tile as an orphan tile. All tiles that you use must be contiguous. You can restart the level, but doing so you will lose one life.
Adventure Mode - There are 30 levels in the adventure mode. The way you use the tiles is still the same as in both other modes, but in this mode you progress in a linear fashion through the levels, all of which appear to be laid out in different patterns looking at the levels map that’s provided, though the first two levels had exactly the same board lay out. As with the survival game you can re-shuffle the board at any time. There are two ways of using the tiles in adventure mode; that is either to use the required number of pieces or use each piece at least once. There is a feather at the left side of the screen that indicates which mode you have to play in. The peacock feather indicates the latter mode.
1-5c_Gameplaytype-_Puzzle-restartinga

1-6b_Gameplaytype-_Puzzle2
The longer the chain of number the bigger the score you will get in both the adventure and the survival game, for example 1+1=2 gives 4 points, 1+1+1=3 gives 9 points, 1+1+1+1=4 gives 20 points and 1+1+1+1+1=5 gives you 30 points, though the scoring isn’t as simple as that as the higher the numbers you use to attain such sequences the higher the bonus you get. Eg 2+3=5 gives you 10 points compared to the above 1+1=2 giving 4 points.
You also get points for the speed at which you make sequences; one each for sequences of 3, 4 or 5 tiles, there’s also jewel sequences and a time bonus. In the adventure mode, at some points you will be able to upgrade certain skills for example, the Dwarven Engineer skill upgrade which causes a bomb to appear at the beginning of a level or the Leprechaun skill that gives you more jewels. Then there are also extra lives and an Alchemist skill that enables the bomb bonus to be used more than once. I didn’t check whether these were applicable in the survival mode though.
When using the Jewel mode you gain even more bonus points by clicking the jewel as it leaves the playing area.

Conclusion:
This is a great game for the young ones. It’s really cool that you cater for all sections of the gaming community. I’m really pleased and thankful for the wide variety of games you provide here; from my favorite arkanoids, to strategy and adventure, racing games, sports and basic arcade games such as the platform and color matching games, as well as space shooters and the more unusual games such as baby drive and soup and even Hacker Evolution. Keep up the fantastic work.
The three game modes with this particular game, called, Adventure, Puzzle and Survival, which will undoubtedly give the game some extended playability. The graphics are nicely presented and thankfully you can turn down the music if you find it too distracting. Well worth 7 out of 10 for family fun and educational for the kids to IMO
