Did anyone actually play this? It's a horribly disappointing piece of junk. For free, it's worth a few minutes of time--but the game is absolutely not worth paying for. Your $10 can go to so many far better games.

I tried downloading this game and it wds the slowest thing I have ever downloaded since getting a cable modem. It took nearly 7 hours to download, and by the time it was finished, it was past mightnight -thus, as it was the next day, when I ran the game, it told me I couldn't play it for free, since it was a day late.

How lame!
Might want a bit of leeway on that next time, lads, or determine why it would take so long to download.

I'm sure getting sick and tired of attempting to install offers a considerable time before offer expiration and being denied permission to do so because of receiving offer expired messages in error!!!!!!!
Tonight is the second time this week this has happened to me. What gives?

Really disappointed. Extreemly large file downloaded 3 different times and file would not install. Showed corrupted each time. Now it's too late to install. Really wanted this game! Thanks anyway GGOTD.

Thanks Tippex for clearing that up. Bear in mind it was around 5am when I wrote that. I just had this thought in my head about wasted space on each of the memory blocks. I'm sure there's a way to optimise this so that you can regain some of the lost space.

Of course with a clearer mind I see. (though it's yet again after 5am the next day, lol.)

Thanks to everyone who've made kind comments about the reviews I've posted recently. Hopefully I'll get into a routine once I've settled into getting the heads up on what were going to be given. At the moment I'm spending a lot more time on the reviews which wasn't my intention. I'd hoped to make the reviews more succinct and erudite, but instead I seem to be expanding them into something even bigger than previous to my statement about giving up on the reviews (which I may add was said after a particularily bad night.

I downloaded, then got message "Windows can't open ..." I tried downloading again, and it won't download. Since it may not be Vista compatible, it may be no loss. Does anyone have any ideas about how to deal with this?

I actually downloaded in about 20 seconds on high speed, so dialup might be faster than you think. If you start, you should get an estimate, only then give up. I'm hoping this is Vista compatible.

Okay, well, I managed to free up some space enough to install it and so far it's running great. Thanks for your help (you, too Mad Ollie). I guess I do have 4 partitions, but the destination drive was still supposed to be C: which has tons of room (it kept saying it needed 500K to install and that I only had 197K available, which made no sense to me), so I don't know what the program was reading or why, but anyway, it's working now..(and I'm sure much of what I just said sounds totally stupid, so I'll leave the techno stuff to you guys..haha..) thanks again guys, and sorry for rambling, it's been a long day :)

Yay, something a little different than what we've had recently. I'm going to have to make a little room for the post install size I think, but so far as the download, even downloading two other files at the same time, guestimated download time for this will only be about 15 minutes tops. No trouble finding the file when I click the download link, so they must have fixed that error (or the mirror link was never broken.)

Can't wait to get this installed and start shooting and blowing things up. LOL ;)

the setup loads the whole file in memory and then runs the installer and because I have only 256mb ram with lots of programs running in background, that didn't work..
after restarting windows+closing some programs, it works fine.
so #14, try freeing some memory and increasing pagefile size and running the setup in Safe mode with networking..

As for the game I will not be downloading today. I am on dial-up and I just don't like this genre.
Thank you GGOTD for all the games and software you give us every day.

OK - I'm having a bad day it seems.
Since the file is sooo big it took a while to download.
It seemed to extract fine (winrar) but on running the exe I get [Fatal error: key is invalid] so tested the zip file and it came up good.
So I tried downloading a second time and get
=> 502 Bad Gateway

Are the servers having issues again?
That may explain the validation key not being accepted.
......................................
Yup servers are having issues
=> 500 Internal Server Error
=> activation module failed to connect ....
.....................................
Yay we have connection ^_^!!!

And the game is pretty awsome for a basic sidescroller maze game... retro chunkiness ^_^!!

Thanks for today's offer. Very nice to have a different game than what is normally offered ... and more 'adult' oriented (blood). For me, this is not my 'cup-of-tea' but downloaded this for my husband and he will be very happy I did! The download was longer than I expected on DSL (about 45 minutes), but from setup to game play took much less time on a Windows XP, 2 system. Overall, this game looks like a very fun 'shoot-em' game. Thank you!

Slasher (#26): Try a tool like "RefreshForce" to set higher refresh rates than 60Hz (not MHz btw.) for fullscreen games.

But that's more a Windows issue than a problem of this game. As far as I know it's known as the "60Hz bug" of DirectX under Win2000/XP. Many games behave like this...

@whiterabbit, you're sort of confusing memory with hard disk, both are not the same, fragmentation occours when files are saved on non contigious sectors (hence fragmentation), all defragmentation does is moves the files into a contigious block, it does NOT free up disk space at all

the game itself though i played before, quite nice, and definately a nice one for ggaotd to release.. thumbs up

#22 Ladyluck... Open GL stands for Open Graphics Library and Open Graphics Language. It has nothing to do with whether the game plays online or offline. If you google Open GL you will find more info on it than you ever wanted to know. As far as getting the games back for free, soon, I think that would kind of defeat the purpose of the project, wouldn't it? Luckily games do come back around again. Even if folks complain about it.

#1 Stephen... Did you give up on putting your reviews in the Forums with just a brief synopsis here in the comments section? I enjoy reading your reviews irregardless where written, but was just curious. I had kind of hoped by getting people going to the forums for your reviews people would learn to use the forums for things like, oh, I don't know... technical problems and suggestions on software for the project and leave this comments section to comments about the game. :-D

I don't much care for Sci Fi background games as I usually prefer Fantasy to Sci Fi. But I took a chance and downloaded Robbox the other day and enjoyed it so I will try this game out as well. If I find I have anything significant to add to what has already been said, I will be back. ;-)

I'm sitting on top of a T1 line and I've tried six times to download the game. Each time I get the lovely "can't find this" error. Perhaps someone at your end could double check and see if there is a coding error somewhere or if the link has gone dead? I'd love to have this...great relief from dealing with students and grading.

Hi Goodgotd,
I can't comment on the differences between today's and last July's version of the game as I was on vacation when that was given away (as I was for yesterday's golf game as well). It's definitely 100Mb + lighter which can't account for all of the movies (me thinks???) Also I've not noticed a version number anywhere. I'm just wondering whether some videos and music were removed to help those with dial up as it's a 25% reduction in size, though I would expect a download manager would be needed?

Cheryl comment #24, are you installing it to your boot drive or have you accidentally changed the install position to one of your disc drives? That would be one reason for the "not enough disc space" message. Sorry I can't be of further help.

When you say you have 80G of free space on your hard drive; has it been partitioned? and /or formatted? If it has, the 80Gb may very well be on the partitioned side of the disc, so would be inaccessible unless you changed the install path to the partitioned disc letter. Or it could even be that you have 80Gb of un-partitioned space. When I first installed a large drive I remember getting a message saying that drives larger than something like 135Mb or was it 175Mb (I can't remember the exact figure) couldn't be partitioned and then formatted until Windows XP had first been installed (This was setting up a system from a new set of Hard Drives. I didn't know how to complete the job once the initial partitioning was done so I had this space on the disc that was unusable for ages. Google eventually solved the problem for me, (Sorry if that sounds confusing, I’ve only just woke up)

You could try doing a disc clean up by using the add /remove programs facility found in the control panel. .

Empty your recycle bin.

Right click on your internet browser and select internet properties. On the general tab you can delete cookies, browsing history and temporary files.

Also go to the Start Menu , click on the Control Panel. Choose 'Performance and Maintenance' then 'Free up Space on your Hard Disc, this runs the Disc Utility that scans for temporary internet files (there's always loads in that section on mine because I download a lot from the internet) There's a whole host of other stuff including temporary files (different to the temporary internet files) that you need to check, then click on the okay button to run the utility.

I've only recently built the computer I’m working on at the moment. It’s been running for about six weeks and already there's over 5Gb of stuff in my temporary folders. I don't bother running this utility often because all my computers have around a terabyte of disk space each, so there’s no real need to, but if you have smaller drives it’s a good idea to run the above at least once a week. Defragmenting the drive also helps to free up some space. (I can’t explain this off the top of my head though; it has something to do with data being stored in packets. Each of the segments that the memory is saved to is not always filled up. Nothing else can use this memory until the files have been moved by defragmenting I think that’s the way it works. I use Diskeeper which runs in the background so my discs are always kept un-fragmented. There was a program called Ashampoo Magical Defrag given away free if you bought a particular computer magazine. It was mentioned in the forums last week, though I can’t remember what the thread was called. That program also keeps your discs defragmented. They are a great investment as they keep your computer running much more efficiently.

Sorry for going off on one. It was all related though.
