In Brief
Neptunia is a falling block match three game with an underwater theme.

Installation:
Neptunia downloads to a 32.5 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set-up file and a read me). Those with multiple hard drives can save games on any drive they wish. The newly installed game is MB in size. The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed by the user if you prefer:
C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\ Neptunia
Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop. three of which can be safely deleted (Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game which vary each week). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you uncheck the box when the additional tasks window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window)

Introduction:
For hundreds of years people tried to guess the secrets of the seas. Generation by generation fathers were telling their sons about mysteries which dark frightening waters kept. Nobody knew then what was there at the bottom. But the stories were so capturing and full of puzzles that many of young men tried to solve them. They prepared for long dangerous trips in attempts to discover new creatures they had heard about in their childhood. And sometimes those fairy tales turned out to be a reality. Now we can't say how many of them became victims of their own curiosity, but it is obvious that the mystery still remains the same. What is there in those seas? If you still haven't read tales about magic lands and civilizations, you have a perfect chance to learn a lot about them. Everything will depend upon your desire and imagination. Neptunia will show you a lot of things you haven't seen before. Try to be attentive while moving stones. Special bonuses will help you on your way. All you need is to be careful and release stones with crosses to proceed. Don't be shy, make attempts to reach excellent results and become an experienced player. Pleasant sounds and colorful elements will make the whole process interesting and calm. But you can't relax because riddles are waiting for you in Neptunia! Solve them, pass through the levels and learn all the secrets of the mermaids. Do they really exist? Download the Neptunia game and everything will become clear at once!

The Game:
Relaxing, fun and cerebral, Neptunia – an undersea puzzler notable primarily for its extensive storyline, solid production values and leisurely action – is in many ways the quintessential casual game. Based on a simple mechanic, accessible to players of all ages and skill levels, and designed to be enjoyed at your own pace, it’ll prove equally attractive to working professionals and feisty whippersnappers alike. However, being a textbook example does have its disadvantages as well. For example, the fact there’s little innovative or memorable about the game, its sluggish tempo and the general lack of challenge presented within.
Match 3 enthusiasts of all types will find plenty to enjoy with Neptuna, starting with the detailed plotline, displayed via an ongoing series of conversational cut-scenes. The saga in a nutshell: Young girl Lisa and her grandfather discover pieces of a map that lead to a secret submarine realm and promptly set out to investigate, meeting interesting characters and discovering fabulous baubles along the way.
Despite featuring a great deal more dialogue than you may expect, the script does a sound job of setting an intriguing, if oftentimes too laid-back atmosphere. Then again, this relaxed mood is obviously intentional, designed to help melt stress away, and is further accented by supporting effects like undulating waves and swimming schools of jellyfish that flit about stage backgrounds. (Not to mention, that is, the drowsily inoffensive and airy tunes which play throughout the entire episode…)
7_-_level_1_timed

8_-_end_level_1
It’s an appropriate feel for a game set several thousand leagues beneath the ocean, and one where the action’s largely limited to strategic mouse-clicking. Essentially, each stage – consisting of an individual board inhabited by colored, hexagonal tiles stamped with seaweed, nautilus shells, urchins and other aquatic symbols – revolves around simple pattern matching and removal. All you need to know to get started: Clicking on groups of three or more similarly-hued tiles causes them to disappear from the board, with levels successfully ending if you remove special Neptune tiles (ones with swirling patterns) from play before time runs out.
Later levels do introduce extra challenges and obstacles like stones that must be shattered, nets to blow up and sea mines that destroy all surrounding objects. But, by and large, added advancements are infrequent enough that you’ll have plenty of time to master one twist before the next is introduced.
As much care as developer Intenium has put into overall production values, you’ll probably enjoy watching explosives ignite, glass shatter and bubbles swirl as you progress through multi-tiered stages that surprisingly span several vertical screens in height. Nonetheless, the adventure’s hardly what you’d call a nail-biter, especially since in main attraction Normal mode (Timed and Relaxed options are also available) freeing Neptune tiles adds more time to an already generous clock. While these concessions admittedly do make the quest less stressful and more accessible to the general masses, they’ll do little to keep experienced casual gaming vets, or older players, glued to their keyboard.
8_-_level_1_story_board

13_-_level_2
The action does improve with time, and the more you progress into the tale, the cooler the surprises that wait in store. (We’ll refrain from inserting any spoilers here, however). Still, for all the nice touches you’ll find, e.g. collectible statues and clues that advance the already enjoyable plot, none are must-see attractions. More’s the pity too… We’re quite taken in by the overall package. Even if, that is, it’s possible to get stuck on certain levels. (Though you can always restart or skip ahead in exchange for losing a life.) And, of course, aggravation occasionally ensues due to blocks hiding at the edges of the screen that annoyingly prevent the view from scrolling downward when needed.
In summation, go into Neptunia with grand-scale expectations, and you’ll be disappointed. Dive into the adventure simply looking for a pleasing way to wind down after a hard day at work, however, and you’ll find that it’s full of sunken treasure.

Conclusion:
Although the graphics are a little dated by today’s standard (released almost 11 years ago), the game is well made, simple to learn, and relaxing to play. There is little to challenge you with this game. Even in the timed mode you have plenty of time to achieve the set goals. Neptunia is ideal for the youngsters in a family, at least the game play parts. There’s a fleshed out story that continues throughout the 40 levels, which are divided into 10 stages.
If you miss today's game giveaway you can always get the game via MyPlayCity 24/7 HERE; or If you prefer to purchase the game you can get it directly from Big Fish Games HERE.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away Neptunia with the toolbars etc. removed and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games.

Suggestions:
After you've had an opportunity to play Neptunia please take a few moments to give some positive or negative feedback about the game; for example, what you liked or disliked, or how improvements could be made to make it more enjoyable and perhaps change your mind about this game? Having problems installing today's game?
If you have a problem installing or activating or getting Neptunia to work please visit the problems section, which you can find in the FAQ's thread HERE. Also, read through the community’s comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted. The main issue we have is with the giveaway wrapper, which uses a Themida based code to protect the games executable. Unfortunately, Themida is also used to hide malware; so, as a precaution, some security software may block the installation and sometimes even delete the executable file. Blocking or deletion is usually determined partly by the way your computer is set up. Usually, you'll get a message saying ''the file is corrupted'', but, the files are okay. There are a couple of things you can do to overcome this issue. The first is to reboot in safe mode with networking, install the game then reboot, or secondly, you can (at your own risk) temporarily turn off your security, install the game, then turn your security back on. A note of reassurance to those that choose the latter and quicker method. The game giveaway team have been giving away games for over a decade (Dec 2006 & prior to that, via the main site 2 or 3 times weekly from Oct 2006 to Dec 2006) and have 'NEVER' given away a game infected with malware; they always test every giveaway with several of the top anti-malware suites to ensure all games are free from malware.
If for any reason you want to contact the giveaway team, for example, if you have a problem getting the latest game or other issues that the FAQ's thread or these comments don't cover or solve or if you have a game to offer the community you can do so HERE

Hi!
Its probably a nice easy game, but it went back to level one for me also. Game to that point was easy,
nice and simple! It downloaded okay, but I had the message to download direct play also. I'm on windows 8 and thought might run okay, but didn't. Overall, the finding/matching of pieces is fine, the story line is very dated sounding
and looking. I would punch it up! It kept repeating the opening also. I would like to try it without problems and am
sure it would be a nice game! Hope things going well White Rabbit!
have a good Sunday!

Funny, it seems to stop at different places for different people.
I can't get past level 1, someone else stated level 3 and a third person stated level 2.

Me again
Tried many many times, with different compatibility settings and still cannot get past level 2.
Rebooted PC, ran compatibility wizard and still stuck. It does save my game now, but only sees one player.
I tried using another player name, with the same results, only to find that my first player disappeared from the game.
This is really a disappointment as it is such a cute game.
Just want to thank you anyway but I shall uninstal.

The game play is very much my kind of thing. My only complaint is that I couldn't get passed Level 3. The compatible setting is XP so I am not sure what the deal is. I'll try a few system "fixes" before uninstalling. I would have love to keep the game if I could access all the levels. It's a real decent game to occupy away the hot afternoons here.

In case it helps...

The game's readme file lists compatibility from Win98 (? !!) to Win7, though I only saw a couple of I believe audio-related files dated in the 90s -- most are 2007. In a win7 HP 64 bit VM [I can't (easily) run win7 on this PC] after right-clicking game.exe in the game's folder, I clicked Troubleshoot compatibility, running the wizard -- it suggested XP SP2 as the compatibility mode. The next step using the troubleshooter is to test the game, & it worked, though when I exited the game I had to enter control + alt + delete to get the original sized window back, since it had stuck at the good bye screen.

The win7 VM's emulated hardware support is really minimal, so I'd expect the game to run on most anything, pending those compatibility settings. Win10 does seem to go further than win7 with its compatibility settings & related code, so I'd suspect the game might run better there.

"This game wanted me to install extra files called Direct Play"

As WR said, you shouldn't have to. As the game uses DirectX 8, which AFAIK almost nothing [except this game] still uses, it *might* be a driver-related issue, e.g. driver software seeing some request from the game it doesn't know how to handle, but that's just a guess. And if that's the case, if setting the compatibility mode doesn't help, there's likely not an easy answer.

Hi, I tried changing compatibility through troubleshooting but get the same message about Direct Play. Running the game without installing that gives me a black screen but I can hear the music. It also changes my screen resolution and I have to reboot. I'm on W8.1. So I take this little game over to my XP (which I use for older games that I can't let go - Zanzarah and Tomb Raider) and it runs fine. Cute game, went to level 20. In order to not lose my game save I have to ctrl/alt/del while inside of a game then it will reload when I restart the game.

Hi White Rabbit, how are you?
I hope you are coping Ok and am so sorry for your family member losses.
Continuing to pray for strength for you :)

ok - with regards to this game.....
Installed fine on Win 10 54 bit.
However I am not happy with this program.
It does not save my player name, so when I return to the game I have to make a new player.
Also, it allows me to only do the first two levels. And yes, I got excellent points (their words, I am not bragging lol).
I can only assume that this is a trial and not a full program.
The third thing I found is that it takes far too long to exit, and twice I had to resort to using Task Manager to end the game.
Up to now, if I have downloaded a game it has worked well. This is a first disappointment.

Anyways, keep well - I believe a lot of people are supporting you in prayer and I hope this encourages you :)

This is installed on Win 7 Home Prem. I am having another issue with the game. Seems I can't get past Level 2. I don't know if I'm supposed to have x points to go forward, or there's an error in the game itself. I've done L2 3 times now and it's getting boring! Same dialogue over and over so the game is not progressing. I will look online to see if there's an issue with the game itself, or maybe I'm just doing something wrong...

It is a quick click game and would be challenging if it would progress.....

Hi Sunnie, The game is 11 years old, so it may be a compatibility issue. It ran fine on my Win 10 pro 64bit computer. I progressed to stage 4/level 16 before giving up with no discernible issues. Try changing the compatibility to Win XP or Vista and maybe change some of the video options in the compatibility tab. Regards Stephen. :)

Stephen,

Please tell me how to change the compatibility to Win XP or Vista? I am running on a Win 7 Home Prem. Have no idea how to make that change.

Thanks

This game wanted me to install extra files called Direct Play. I've never had that happen before so I chose 'no'. The game continued to open but it changed my screen resolution so badly that I had to reboot. What is this Direct Play and do I need to install it? I didn't see it mentioned above.

......................................Moderator Comment............................................
Hi Nan Grif, no you don't need to install Direct Play. It's very odd? Direct Play is an old Microsoft API which was used to interface communications with games over a network and was used in particular for game development work. There's more to it than that, but I don't understand why the installation would ask for that to be installed as it isn't necessary because the game is single player only. no one else has reported this issue???? Regards Stephen. :)

Reply   |   Comment by Nan Grif  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Thanks for responding Stephen. The resolution going down to 600x400 is what I didn't understand. I coiuldn't even navigate to an options screen to window it. I'll try again later.

Thanks. Usually these $9.95 kind of games are pretty weak but review is promising and I do like this genre. Worth a poke but noting the older PC listing. Sometimes these break in the Windows 10 x64 Pro age but given the simplish style it may hold up.

beergas, Played to that level 3 and yes it reverted to level 1. Comments here warned of that. So I used 3 lives to get to level 4. Same deal there. Uninstalled it as not willing to deal with any compat issues, and game just not really holding me. Several others to get back to. Thanks anyway.

I would like to see a "save and exit" so that you can come back later and "continue" the SAME game. Lost ALL as it does not save when exiting. It just ends game!

UPDATE: I did finally "find" the SAVED game. Had to reboot computer and it finally gave me another screen with the "saved" game choice. So, you can disregard my earlier comment. Don't know why it took so long to show up, but it is there now...

Hi Stephen,

I found an online source to help me change the compatibility, which I did. The game is still stuck on the No. 2, and runs me through Levels 1-3 over and over. Unfortunately, will need to uninstall and give a "thumbs down" on this one.

Thanks for all the great games you post.... Have a great day!

Question for Stephen/Whiterabbit: Do comments posted AFTER the game download has expired get paid attention to? I would only want to post a comment if I had a good amount of time to evaluate a game, which would be at least a couple of days later... :/

......................................Moderator Comment............................................
Hi Diane, Every comment ever made on this site is still available to read. I cannot quote how many community members and/or developers visit those pages, but I'm sure they are visited by some, if only for information on the game in question. If you have anything useful to say or suggestions that would improve the game, please do post at a later date. To access older comments you need to go to the archives near the bottom of the main game giveaway page and find the appropriate game. If some time has elapsed it may be quicker to Google the name f the game with the gamegiveawayoftheday as one of the keywords. Because the site has a very good standing with the major search engines, you'll almost certainly find the correct link back to these comments within the first few links. Regards Stephen. :)

The antivirus "killed" a EXE, engine.exe in the submap BIN. A restart of Windows was demanded for safe cleaning.
The file was send to Virustotal.com and to my surprise: something was found:
https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/e6a824a6fed22a6d155a0c09ff76d7c4779d62ee9ec6cc2118f3a5287f242a48/detection
On this page a relation with 134.170.185.211 is mentioned
And that IP should be owned by MS:
https://www.whois365.com/en/ip/134.170.185.211?w365id=ac806fca661b004432560203f6b20170
Maybe to download Directplay.

Hi Ootje, thank you for posting your concerns. All games downloaded from this site are thoroughly checked using the latest antimalware suites. The wrapper, which contains Themida code is often flagged by anti-malware suites but is a false positive. It's flagged because Themida wrappers can also hide malware.

Moderator "It's flagged because Themida wrappers can also hide malware."
The game was already installed without any problem.
And after a restart of Windows the antivrus killed just 1 EXE, Engine.exe.
