To echo Whiterabbit, I've completed all but a couple of challenges in the original version of the Origin giveaway, Plants vs Zombies, and it's a wonderfully fun tower defense game. Most TDs are exercises in intensity, but PvZ is a marvelously cleverly designed TD dripping with character and fun. It's the Candy Crush of TDs, maybe the most popular ever. Certainly in the top 10, probably top 5, and well worth every bit of popularity it's earned.

Installation:

Neon Void Runner downloads to a 30.6 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set up file and a read me). Those with multiple hard drives are able to save games on any drive they wish. The newly installed game is 55.7 MB in size. The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed by the user if you prefer:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\Neon Void Runner

Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop. three of which can be safely deleted (Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game which vary each week). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you uncheck the box when the additional tasks window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window)

The Game:

Neon Void Runner is a side scrolling retro looking runner game with no frills. If you're not sure about downloading todays game you can check it out for free online HERE or watch a video of gameplay HERE. To progress to the next level you need to collect energy balls, which can then be spent on opening the next level. These become progressivley harder to beat and more expensive to buy. You only need to remember three keys to play this game either the W,S and D keys or the up down and right arrow keys. W or up is for jumping over obstacles, S or down is for sliding under obstacles and D or right arrow is for firing at destructible obstacles. The levels are a monochrome neon color, changing every few levels to a different color, there are no power ups, just the challenge of completing a level of which there are only six to beat, which although small in number are very challenging. There are 15 achievements to earn which you can see in the third image above.

Conclusion:

A no frills running game with achievements. It's not got many levels, but becomes very challenging after the second level. Personally I wasn't quick enough to get past level 2 and got bored trying, though /i would give the 7 out of 10 for a simple designed game.

Problems getting the game to work:

If you're having problems installing or activating or getting Neon Void Runner to work please visit the FAQ's Thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game are blocked by their security because Themida code has been known to hide malware, (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not); so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though the files (i.e the setup, read me and setup.gcd files are actually totally free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. You could also try whitelisting the setup.gcd file. In the almost 11 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.

The latest Origin giveaway is Plants vs. Zombies Game of the Year Edition. which you can find HERE. If you love Tower Defense, or arcade games in general, this is a fabulous game. It's not like your typical TD game. It's easy to pick up, but hard to stop playing. A fantastic and well balanced arcade game, with brilliant game play and in my opinion one of the best of its kind. You can pick up one of three excellent games from Ubisoft at the moment (until Dec 23rd) i.e.Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, Watch Dogs or World in Conflict Complete Edition, the complete Edition also includes the Soviet Assault version of the game), or whizz over to the Humble bundle site and pick up Layers of Fear. If those don't interest you check out Good Old Games (GOG). They are giving away Oxenfree and Origin still has Plants vs Zombies available for free. There are also some Steam games listed over in the forums that are free for the moment HERE; most are available via indie bundles, though AX:EL - Air XenoDawn is available directly from Steam.
