Namariel Legends: The Iron Lord: Collectors Edition

In Brief:
Namariel Legends: The Iron Lord is a steam punk-esque hidden object game. It was originally given away on the 12th October 2014 where it received a positive 73% from 483 votes with 147 comments which you can see HERE. Todays version is the collectors edition with some extra content.

You can see some videos of game play SPOILER ALERT HERE, HERE, HERE and some none collectors edition videos HERE, HERE and HERE.

You can also see some very positive Steam community reviews of the game HERE.
The Game:
Namariel Legends: Iron Lord has a rocky start, as its soft, blurry graphics don’t offer a promising environment for exploration. But once the game begins, however, players are launched into a fairly tense journey to save our hero’s uncle from the clutches of a robotic overload and his mechanical minions. The game isn’t a perfect experience, but while the game suffers from some technical issues, it’s still pretty fun where it counts.
Namariel-Legends-003

Namariel-Legends-004
Namariel Legends: Iron Lord is set in a steam punk-esque world with mechanical flying ships, personified robots, and plenty of robotic gadgets and gizmos. The world has been taken over by a robotic army, led by the Iron Lord, and the sitting King and Queen have been removed from power. The player character lives with her uncle, an inventor, high on a cliff-top until both are taken captive by the army: triggering you to help our heroine on her escape and rescue plan.

While the “family rescue” setup has been seen in adventure games more times than we can count, Namariel Legends offers the tale with enough originality to make the experience truly entertaining. Not a traditional hidden object game, Namariel Legends instead focuses on puzzles and adventure play, as players pick up key items scattered around the environment and then use them to open locked doors, repair mechanisms, evade pursuers, and so on.

Many of the game’s puzzles are fairly unique, and the game seems to purposefully stray from basic tile sliding puzzles. There’s a large focus here on mazes, but each one is presented in a slightly different way so as not to feel too repetitive. While many puzzles can be finished quickly, there are a few that are incredibly time consuming, and even those that rely more on trial and error than actual skill.
Namariel-Legends-005

Namariel-Legends-006

While players are alone through most of their journey, they’re always haunted by the threat of harm to their uncle, and may need to remove robotic enemies or other obstacles from their path before moving on. Thankfully, a mind-reading device sometimes provides hints as to what items they’ll need to find next, and a little robot by the name of Jim can be used in a pinch to grab or activate something that’s otherwise out of reach.

Even though there are tons of areas to explore here, and tons of items to pick up throughout the journey, items and tasks tend to be completed in small chunks. There’s not a ton of backtracking here, and the hint system (on the easiest of two difficulty settings) is great at showing where players need to go, and even what they need to interact with, only rarely emptying and requiring a recharge.

While the gameplay in Namariel Legends: Iron Lord is quite fun, it’s best to play the game without sound, as the many mechanical sound effects are far too repetitive and annoying. The game’s cutscenes come with voice acting, but much of it sounds rushed, as though the game plays multiple clips without allowing characters to pause for a breath. Furthermore, the game’s character models are pretty ugly, with horrible mouth animations that look more like a goldfish out of water than a human actually speaking words and sentences.

Namariel-Legends-008
Still, the technical issues in Namariel Legends: Iron Lord aren’t enough to eliminate the fun that can be had with this experience. The setting and storyline are both things that we’ve seen before, and the game doesn’t have any substantial challenge for those that might be looking for it, but those players that are interested in a casual puzzle and adventure game would do well to pick this one up.

As with many Toomky games, although XP is listed as a supported OS trying to run the game via the installed shortcut throws up the "Not a valid Win32 application" error. However, running the game via the game.exe file works.

Definitly something different, looks nice, and so I will give it a try. Thank you!

(As a non- native speaker) some sidenote to the title "Collector’s Edition" should’t it be: "Collectors Edition" without " ’ "? "Collector" is not a name.

Peter,

Hi Peter, sorry for the late reply. Did you use the orange coloured file to install or did you try to use the GCD file? The orange coloured file with the key symbol is the one you should use to install the game.

The version from TooMky Games is virtually the same as the one we got from the gamegiveawayoftheday. You'll find the download page via the following link:

"Todays version is the collectors edition with some extra content."

Was not the LAST time it was given away not also "The Collector's Edition"?

I've got it in my records as so.

I tend to like a game with good graphics, and this one looks very nice to me. Just installing now, but from the review, I think I'll like it just fine. Thanks so much.

Well this looks like a really good game I am keeping at present, but I have no idea how to play it. Not intuitive at all.

Today's hidden object game has plenty of puzzles and other things to find out. It's actually visually pleasing to look at. The beginning of the game really gave me a challenge. I had to use a hint or two in order to find what I'm doing to progress. Hey I even found a cat in a cabinet that when clicking on it hissed at me!

While the game is wide screen there are times where you must move the mouse in order to scroll the screen left and right. I also noticed at times when going to other parts of the game it says "Loading" while its almost instant that this goes away its certainly annoying to see in the game.

I also noticed several instances of where you have the custom cursor enabled on the system, the click detection in the scene is quite off. A good example of this is the opening cut scene. I had my mouse directly over the word Skip at the top right and it did not light up. Moved my mouse a little bit below it and the word highlighted so I just clicked on the blank space it was on and sure enough the scene skipped.

Also, once you finish an important part of a scene you can't go back to it. A good example is the drawers you open in the beginning and the amulet you put together. Some other hidden object games let you revisit certain areas but here its one and done. I suppose this is fine since it can help you focus on finishing the scene.

A strategy guide is at the top right of the screen, of course to be used only when you're really stuck and the hint button really does not work out for you.

It's certainly worth a try to play it today to see how you like it. Despite the flaws it's not a real deal breaker. So if you have trouble clicking on items properly turn off the custom cursor.

The game downloaded and ran on windows 11. This is a hog and I like the it. It has 2 levels of play one where the hints recharge quicker than the other. The game also has a stratagy guide which helps you by telling you what order you have to do the tasks to move on through the game. Defiantly keeping this one.
