Conclusion:
Mystery Solitaire: The Black Raven is a darkly themed solitaire card game well worth downloading, especially if you missed the previous giveaway Mystery Solitaire - Arkham's Spirits. If you get stuck, there are enough cheats such as the Mulligan, use of Jokers and a shuffle to enable you to complete levels. These ‘cheats’ can either be awarded by playing the game or by using points earned during game play to purchase them from the in-game shop. I loved the stories of Edgar Allan Poe (and similar authors such as Franz Kafka) when I was a teenager. The game is well worth a 9 out of 10 for game play IMO. Definitely a keeper for me. :)

There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers new or fresh ideas as to what their consumers (i.e. you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini-games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and need re-skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or good may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would 'you' give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only needs a few moments of your time. I believe this site could be transformed into a hub for developers to visit and take away useful information on what you the consumer wants in their games; if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free. If the giveaway doesn't grab you, then please move on to the next giveaway, or check out the forums HERE, HERE and HERE, where a few members of the community post details of various free games and free game sites as well as links to various indie bundle sites etc. You never know, you may find something that really interests you.

If you miss today's game giveaway you can always get the game via MyPlayCity 24/7 HERE. If you prefer to purchase the game you can get it HERE via Big Fish Games.
Problems getting the game to work:
If you're having problems installing or activating or getting Mystery Solitaire: The Black Raven to work please visit the FAQ's Thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game are blocked by their security because Themida code has been known to hide malware, (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not); so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though the files (i.e the setup, read me and setup.gcd files are actually totally free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. You could also try whitelisting the setup.gcd file. In the almost 11 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.

If for any reason you want to contact the giveaway team, for example, you have a game to offer the community, or are unable to download the latest game or other issues that the FAQ's thread or these comments don't cover or solve you can do so HERE
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away Mystery Solitaire: The Black Raven and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games.
Useful Information not related to today's game giveaway:
If Mystery Solitaire: The Black Raven doesn't interest you, but you still hanker for something new to play, you'll find details of some game deals whether they be sale items, indie bundles or games being given away for free HERE (I've not updated the thread in a while, but most of the links still take you to the latest deals).
The rest of the information that used to be posted in the game review can be found in the forums HERE. Finally, check out Delenns threads for details of other free games and offers HERE and elsewhere in the game discussion forums HERE, (usually on the first page of the game discussion forums).

These 8Floor solitaire games are all fun. Granted, they're more or less the same, but each game is also different. Just replay a level, and it's a new randomly-generated layout. And I enjoy the different backgrounds, even if they're only "somewhat" different.

So thanks to MyPlayCity, GGOTD, Whiterabbit, and to the community for your helpful reviews and comments.

The only thing that did install is the Software Informer. Mystery Solitaire did not install at all.

Software Informer will only install if you click on the Install Software Informer button to install it. To avoid installing you must click close.

I cannot get this to install!

Please excuse the very late reply. Been out all day.Check your event logs to see if there are any error messages that may give you an idea as to what the issue is. Check the read me file as well, it does mention that some security software blocks the installation due to the Themida wrapper (which can also be used to hide malware)

JodyE, my virus protector did not inform me that it was stopping the download. This game will not download at all. I uninstalled everything and tried again and the same thing happened.

...................................Moderator Comment..................................

Check your event logs immediately after attempting to install. Then post the messages here. Will see if we can figure out your issue. :)

This solitaire game pretty much shows both the good and bad of 8 Floor games. What they do well, they do very well.

The backgrounds are beautiful and the gameplay is solid. There are no bells and whistles in the gameplay, though - no little special things to look for, no pretty card backs (or fronts, for that matter), no minigames, etc. Also, other than the theme and backgrounds, every 8 Floor solitaire game is exactly the same as every other 8 Floor solitaire game.

I personally have bought two of them - which is one too many, honestly.

Enjoyable enough game to pass the time with. I am a little annoyed every time I'm done with the game my browser pops up to go to their website. But, overall, I'm happy with it.

A nice solitaire game with my favourite 40 thieves as variant. 8 Floor games are fun to play. Not too easy and with a replayable contest. Installation went smoothly as always.

This is virtually identical to the offering a week ago. The only difference is the skin; the play is EXACTLY the same.

Installed it twice. Got 2 errors in the setup.

First one is: IPersistFile: Save failed; code 0x80070002. The system cannot find the file specified.

Second one is: Runtime Error (at 12:32:10): IPersistFile::Save failed; code 0x80070002. The system cannot find the file specified.

Then it loaded but I'm pretty sure there will be problems down the line. :-(

Marcy, before you run the game, right-click on the shortcut and start the compatibility troubleshooter. That usually fixes such problems for me, hope that helps you too.

Yet another excellent review, Stephen, with plenty of illustrations. I very nearly passed on this giveaway because I have 'Solsuite' installed, but just for once in a long while I followed your links to the in-game videos, and I then realised why you gave the game a 9/10 !! The graphics are amazing, as is the game play, and with all the options available, it's going to be a game that will hold my interest for quite a while. Although your review is obviously about today's giveaway, I do like all the extra information you give us about other game sites and so on. I almost gave up on 'GiveAwayOfTheDay' because (as an older person) I don't use 'Social Media' at all, but then I discovered that you can apply for a direct link to the giveaway. More importantly, I must remember to look for your in-game video links ! Needless to say - this game is definitely a keeper.

The game downloaded and installed on windows 10. This is a great solitaire game I like the way you can get my bonus like the mulligan shuffle or joker when you are playing a level. Well worth trying if you like card games.

I download and install it but I get thirt party advertising and browser add ons.

Every time when I get a game this happen. So i don't like it

...................................Moderator Comment..................................

The browser add-ons have been removed from the giveaway version of this game so I don't understand how you are getting them. No one else from the thousands of subscribers mentions this. The in game advert only occurs when the game is loading and should not be present in the game once started. If you have installed the game directly from MyPlaycity then unless you uncheck the three checkboxes that present themselves when the installation window opens, you will get browser add-ons etc. Unchecking them will stop them from being installed.

Reply   |   Comment by Fea  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Fea, Are you going to the MyPlayCity site to download the game? It sounds like you are downloading the game from there and NOT from GGOTD?
Do NOT click on the game's Homepage to download the game! If you download from there, yesy you will get the tproblems you mentioned. Instead, click the Big Green Link to the right of the download countdown clock labelled "Download Now" and follow the instructions there. If you don't use Facebook, click the "email" link at the bottom of the pop-up box and GGOTD will send you a download link by e-mail.
There are NO browser add-ons in the GGOTD version, and if by "third-party advertising" you mean ads for other MPC games appear while the game is loading or after you exit, that is normal and expected even in the GGOTD versions (and also, it is not "third-party" advertising, it is MPC advertising).
I hope that helps?

Reply   |   Comment by Cad Delworth  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

What I always get are Icons for 1 or 2 broswer games plus 1 icon to My Play City, maybe if you create the desktop icon yourself, you don't get those.
Also it always wants me to install a browser plugin for MPC, it's annoying but you don't have to.

Reply   |   Comment by Anu  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Anu, When I used Opera as my default browser I would always get asked to install the plug-in. I agree that it was very annoying. I currently have IE set as the default browser and it no longer asks.

I use Chrome btw. Funny that it's different in different browsers. Thanks for your answer.
