Downloaded product. Was able to open it once and enjoyed playing it. Now I am not able to get it to open properly. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I went by the instructions in the readme file. Could you send me detailed instructions to open it properly and create a shortcut to the opened file. Thank you very much. Enjoy your site and look forward to your offerings.

HI Vera - Problem with" rotation puzzle ".

Here is a cheat to solve your problem.
Those that do not like cheats look away now.

Put your curser on the first square and look at the "correct number"
Not at the picture.
Click and note did the number go up or down or stay as it is.
Keep clicking till it goes up - to correct.
Do the same for all squares till you have them all ok.

Please let us know if you solve it ok.

I have recently taken delivery of your hidden object game "Cairo".
It is an excellent example of the hidden object game.

I would like to make a ,I hope,a constructive comment.
At the end of the game you congratulate the player and then we can play again.
During the game there is the option -bottom right of screen - to take a hint or use the map which has a choice of a number (3/4?) of levels.
In the relaxed mode I would prefer unlimited time with the hint only refilled with a time delay.
What about a page which shows all the levels. This could be used as a sort of bonus for completing all the levels successfully.
Also could you not include more "hidden objects"?These could be obtained from the objects already within the program.

I do realize that suggestions from the public - if implemented - do cost you time/money but in this case (I would say that would't I) the cost would be quite minimal.

Good luck.

C.M.

any way to adjust the screens? Tried running on window and with that box unchecked. Can't get past first level as the leaf (per hint) is below what appears on my screen.

Am I crazy or is the rotation puzzle on level 37 unbeatable? I have all the pieces of the puzzle in the right place but it's still telling me I have 1 piece incorrect. I have rotated all the pieces again and again with no luck. Help anyone so I can go to level 38. Thanks

Enjoyed "Golden Prague" a lot more than this one the first time around. I kept banging my head against the wall trying to beat the (IMO) MUCH harder puzzles in this one, and uninstalled it out of sheer frustration. Going to give it another go, and see if I can run it in Wine on Linux... maybe try out the "relaxed mode," if I can figure out how to get it all working.

Jon and Trilbo, this is a common misconception. These games are what are called standalones, an older method of design and installation. Actually, I believe this is highly preferable. They don't install anything on your system. All they do is unpack all their files into a folder, and the game runs practically completely from that folder. That's why they don't show up in add/remove. They haven't really dug into your system. They're just sorting of floating on top of it.

Games and programs with installers add extra things to your system. Sometimes those are highly desirable - like desktop icons or start menu items. But sometimes they represent potential problems later - like new modules in your system or other critical folders, registry entries, or even modules that produce advertisements on your system. And those games usually aren't portable, as gmon points out. It's true, that sometimes these standalone games leave files in other folders, but that's Windows fault. In XP and Vista, Windows actually deflects files that the game wants to put into the game folder and sends them to folders like Program Data, or App Data, or Common Files, etc. Windows does that with ALL programs, installer or not, so you can't really blame the game manufacturer. The fact that standalones don't include uninstallers to remove these extra files - which you can usually find with a simple search, anyway - is the only thing you can fault these games on, and, again the fault is in Windows. And many developers don't understand these somewhat arcane features of Windows, and their included uninstallers many times miss those files, anyway. Most importantly, since standalones don't go mucking about in your system, the chances of messing up anything are practically none. So your thumbs down, Jon, is a BIG thumbs up for me.

Now to the game. I have been terrible on hidden object games, but this is a type I haven't played before. The one's I've played integrated objects deeply into the background. But this type hides objects by using clutter. And that I can handle a lot better. So the games a thumbs up for me.

Some bugs. The main one I'm having on Vista is that sometimes in changing from Windowed mode to Full Screen the window will reduce to the taskbar and I can't restore. It won't even respond to a right click so I have to kill the process. Also, it doesn't appear as a program on my task manager, but only as a process.

The rest aren't really bugs, but the occasional minor annoyance. Using hints apparently doesn't just cost you 2 minutes in relaxed mode, but really seems to kill your score. Also, if you bail in the middle of a level and come back, it seems like the point counter might reset. But, overall, it's still worth it.

The music is representative and not annoying. And the graphics may not be great, but they're pretty good and work for me.

Thank you GGOTD and Goalhouse for this fine offer.

One of my favorites. I downloaded this one but can find no difference between it and the April Giveaway. Even the extracted files were the same size and I played the new one all the way through and found no difference.

These games (and most of the ones from this site) are stand alone games which is why there are no registry entries and why they don't appear in the add/remove programs. Being stand alone they can be saved to external drives or flash sticks and will play on different computers. I wonder if playing from an external drive might solve the Vista 64 problem.

BTW the latest version of Golden Prague added the 'relaxed' option so if it is offered again it is worth getting even if you have the old one.

#17 Weezie - if you didn't toss the laptop, you can get the hard drive out of it and put it in an external enclosure to access any files you need on it.

#33 Jon - Why thumbs down?? A program that you install manually is portable, you can take it anyplace and put it anywhere, with no residual impact on your system, which leads to:

#49 trilbo - uninstalling the game is as simple as deleting the directory to which you extracted it, and deleting any shortcuts you created for it.

Hi Jon, Actually the fact that their is no registry entries makes it all the more easier to delete a game giveaway. All you need to do is delete the installed game folder and it's gone.

Actually there will be some registry enties, mainly evidence of the downloaded zip file and other nondescript enties, but these don't constitute a big impact on system running.

I wanted to uninstall the previous copy of this game and install this new one. Does anyone know why this manufacturer's games (i.e., this and Golden Prague) do not show up in the control panel 'add or remove programs' list? Nor do they have an uninstall option in their file folders.

Sorry to ask this question here as I realize it's a comment board but it is relevant to this game and perhaps others might be helped by this also.

Thank you.

Thank you for today's game offer ... the dsl download and setup were very easy - only a few minutes total. You need to locate the file and make your own desktop shortcut. The game plays in the same fashion as Prague, but the relaxed mode will give you even more time to play each scene. The graphics are nice and so far the storyline is interesting. Also, this game looks kid-friendly. Thank you Stephen, WR for the great review ... always a good read for me.

Well, I played this before and enjoyed it but because of Whiterabbit's comment about the size I am in the middle of downloading again.

The previous game did get quite tricky if an object had a name not usually associated with it, but with experience it got easier and the hints button helped *winks*

So here's hoping that this was the adjustment that has led to a larger size.

All I get is a blank screen however the previous prague version I have works with no problems. I am not wasting anymore time on this just considering it a writeoff this time

Mysterious City: Cairo definitely has a potential to get a thumbs up from me. Though a fun game overall, because of certain annoying gameplay issues, I will give a thumbs down for now unless Goldcasualgames fixes them.

The main issue is that it does not define objects well. This makes it very hard to understand what we are supposed to look for at times. Also, sometimes multiple objects fit the word. For example, it may ask us to look for a beetle, but three objects in picture are beetles, but the game does not recognize two of them.

What is worse is that the game occasional incorrectly labels certain objects. Like in level 11, it asks you to find a "peaked cap" which is supposed to be a military hat with a visor (as defined here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peaked_cap). I was annoyed when I found that I was supposed to click on a baseball cap (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball_cap) for "peaked cap." That really ruined the game for me and made me refuse to play anymore.

Improvements?
- Add some definitions to the words. Just have the game show a sentence or two that defines the word when the player clicks on it. This game should not require the player to spend ten minutes Googling an obscure object to figure out what it wants.
- Also, give players an option to revisit old levels without starting a new profile. If I wanted to replay level 15, I don't want to have to play level 1-14 again to do so.

Thanks Goldcasualgames for Mysterious City: Cairo. It was fun at first, but the poorly defined words and inability to revisit completed levels has ruined the game for me.
