I am not ususlly the one to complain but I dont find anything appealing about this game.First off the mouse movement is very "jerky",This makes the game difficult to play. The ball moves unrealistically. The words are hard to read, some letters seems to be faded, and when I started up the game,it closed itself and reopened. My Rating For This Game-2 Out Of 10.

Well, I had a bit of fun with this. The graphics are pretty, and it plays well. At least, that's what 30 seconds play told me.

On the other hand, it decided to overdrive my monitor, and while I could change resolution, I couldn't tell it to drop the scan rate. So bad marks there, and it's what caused it to be uninstalled rather quickly...

Excellent game, best played using the mouse, the mouse pad on a laptop is a waist of time.

Keep the good work up chaps and chapess's

Looks promising. But couldn't read most of the text - just random letters. ASSUMING the opening screen said Welcome? Only 1 letter of the word was visible, then a comma, and of my name, R----l. So no story line visible for me. :( I've been known to play a bad game for hours for a good story line. Maybe I don't have the right fonts installed? Looks good when you load it up, but felt like I was dragging the bat, I found myself leaning left and right trying to get the bat to move and stop. So reluctantly, this one has been sent to the recycle bin. Yes, I've got a slow computer - bottom end 3 years ago.
Thanks so much for letting us try these games and keep them for free - it's keeping me sane! LOL

I love games in this genre. I got it to run without any hang ups
played it for a while and uninstalled it. I think Giveaway gave us Egyptoid a while back, That was/is a good game. Jarkanoid 3 is an old break-out game that plays a lot better (as far as game play) than
Musikapa.

I agree with #48 about reading comments and then deciding for one's self wether or not to download and test a game. One thing that will prevent me from being able to test a game will be the download time. Some of us are on "dial up" and have slower connections. For this reason I appreciate games that can also be purchased on a CD at a reasonable cost. However, often the cost will be quite a bit more than for the downloadable version - making the game too expensive for those on tight budgets. I wish more games were available on a CD where an unlock key code is included on the CD case.

More info on graphics problems. When I went to uninstall Musikapa, I discovered we had an older, unused version installed. I uninstalled both, then reinstalled the new version. That seems to have cured the driver crashes, but the performance is no better than netbjarne and little better than what hellfireburn reported.

D/L-install-activated w/o problems. It plays well on my XP-SP2. It does have a different "feel" than most games of this type. I've found a "steady hand" helps gameplay alot. Lacks any explaination of "bonuses". Maybe they meant to leave it that way to add to the challange. I don't really care for trial and error personally. Not much more to add that hasn't been mentioned earlier. "Thumbs Up".

I agree about the pleasant tinkling glass sound effects -reminds me of how soothing our wind chimes sound:-) Also it appears that much thought and effort has gone into the artwork and graphics to have these as authentic as possible. Again, the game plays nicley and loads quickly on our DEll pc running on XP. I hope that my comments are of some use to the game creators. The game, for me, is both relaxing and a bit of a challenge. It does not take long to discover what each of the little bits do to the blocks. Wish I had been able to install it on my notebook PC (a DELL INSPIRON running on the VISTA Home Premium OS). Very nice game. Thank you for the opportunity to test it.

The game plays okay once I adjusted the speed of the bat. The edges were a bit ill defined and could use some smoothing. I have AMD Sempron Processor 3200+
1.00 GHz, 1.43 GB of RAM; OS Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. For this type of game, I have others I like much better though for these reasons:

1. Font. The font of the storyline was difficult to read even though I am very familiar with Celtic fonts and wording. Sometimes the placement over the background added to the difficulty. I stopped reading what looked like a quaint folk tale because I was frustrated and moved on to the game. I know nothing of game development or the use of market research in that industry, but perhaps your target audience could help with input here.

2. Help. I've played this type of game before. A simple one page "HELP" file should still be included for someone who hasn't. For them, it is nice to know what each type of falling disc means. Include a simple tutorial. Gradually adding new bonus discs might make the game more interesting to me – although I only played for 30minutes.

3. Scoring. This was confusing to me. There was "My time" + "Ice time" of 1:00 and a "time bonus". Even when my actual time was less than 1 minute for a stage, it seemed to only register 1:00 for "my time". (At the bottom of the screen however, it would show a "best time" of 13 seconds)

4. Music. Okay, the music is gloomy. Someone else noted they muted it as well. How about something … errr Celtic? Simple hammered dulcimer, harp or penny whistle tunes? The works of Turlough O’Carolan come to mind, easily put into a looped midi file and there would be no licensing fees since his whole book is traditional. Although certainly NOT representative of all Celtic music in Europe - they are recognized by most consumers as Celtic in theme and would add to the enjoyment of the game. They should be easy enough to reproduce with a computer. If not to your taste surely you can find something else Celtic in origin from Brittany, Isle of Man, Astoria, Scotland etc.? Not for everyone, just my 2 cents.

EleFun Multimedia, thank you for the opportunity to try your game. With a few tweaks, this could be a more enjoyable game that I would play to the end of each level. Instead, I uninstalled it after 30 minutes of play and it did not take the desktop shortcut which I find annoying.

Game Giveaway of the Day, I thank you for my daily pick-me-up. Ordinary games like Musikapa are still worth a look-see, and make me appreciate the other outstanding games so much more. Huzzah!

Personally, I enjoyed this game. I had no trouble with mouse response, and I'm using an optical USB mouse, so if anyone should be having problems with it, it would be me. I like the musical tones of the ball hitting the bars, too, it's nice and soothing. I found this to be a good game to just sit down and relax with. The text is hard to read, but it doesn't really matter that much to me, I play cheapo casual games to play games, not read. Other than that, gamepad support and widescreen resolutions would have been nice, but it's a $15 game, so I can forgive no widescreen. 9/10

Well, this definately was not my most favorite game, lol! My first problem is that the words are sooo hard to read. I spent way too long trying to figure out what the game was about and even then I wasn't sure. The music is slow and lulling, almost putting me to sleep. The game itself is very slow and I too had problems with the mouse (I have a good optical mouse and usually don't have that problem). I hate to rate a free game poorly but I'm afraid this one is probably about a 2/10.

Makes musicbox-like sounds when you hit the bricks. Runs good for me, and had no problems installing. I hate the fact that it has no help menu at all--not even a readme.txt file! However, I will continue playing it as it does seem enjoyable to me.

Also, thanks 'whiterabbit aka Stephen' for your detailed review and alternate game link.

The concept of 3D breakout isn't so new these days and it takes something a bit special to make it worthwhile playing. Unfortunately, for me Musikapa doesn't have that "something" :( And a story? For an Arkanoid clone? Yeeess... well, okay, if you insist... :)

Oh, and cheers for giving Poing a mention :)

I'm fairly new to the site, and have not posted before. I have downloaded several games here as well as a couple of pieces of software, and I must say a big thank you to GOTD for providing all of these freebies for everyone. I've told other people about the site as well, and they are also very pleased with it.

I do read all the comments posted about the software and games, but in the end I make up my own mind as to whether or not to try them out. After all, if I don't like them, I can simply uninstall them. It's a good thing I do, because if I just went by the comments here I would not have downloaded this game. However, I did decide to try it, and I can honestly say that I had no problems downloading and installing, and no problems with how the game runs or plays. Mouse control is very good, graphics are decent, there are no problems exiting the game at all.

I do agree that the font is difficult to read, but other than that there are no problems with the game so far.

I'm very pleased with most of the things I've obtained from GOTD. I have downloaded a few games that I'm not overly fond of, but that has nothing to do with the games themselves. They are good, but they simply don't appeal to me. I am just pleased to have had the chance to try them out, and can uninstall them if I wish to.

I must say all the negative comments I find on this site make me shake my head in disbelief. How anyone can complain about something that is offered for free is beyond me. People need to start being thankful that they are being given these freebies. If they don't like them, then simply uninstall them. You can't put things up everyday that everyone will like, and it's highly unrealistic of anyone to expect that. It also amazes me to see people telling you to give them this or that - talk about demanding and ungrateful. You give us what you have available at the time, and for that I am certainly grateful.

Thank you so much for all the work you do, and all the freebies you offer, GOTD. You're doing a great job, and I for one very much appreciate it. Fortunately the complainers are balanced out by others who do as well.

To #14 - GGoTD doesn't create the intro text, it comes directly from the publisher, or the other sites that sell the game. So blame the coders or publishers for what sounds like inane jibber-jabber at times. BTW, It's harder than you think to come up with a self-promotional blurb that describes something in a paragraph or two. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. That's the way advertising/promotion goes.

LOL. from what i saw the game has fair graphics, and only took me about 12 seconds 2 download!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even with all of that the game was super slow. it took it approximately 3 min 2 start loading and another five 2 get the point where you make your characters. i never got anywhere after that point because the mouse went crazy!!! it jumped from place 2 place!!!!!!!!!!! so ggotd i know this is free and all but it says it's like the real thing, so whats-up with all of this.
(My computer is super fast so it must be a problem with the game)
P.S: only download if your a master programmer and can crack the protection, 2 debug this game.

I have played better arkanoid games then this given from this site, i still like this type of game also nice feature you get to adjust the volume of the music and sound .. I also had too hard of a time trying to read the storyline. That font needs to be bigger. Better yet, choose a different font. That one looks nice, but just isn't readable.

My mouse was too jerky, making me miss the balls. I'll try again some other time. But if it isn't better, it'll be uninstalled. Thanks, anyway.

Pros: looks good, doesn't violate my 'timewaster rule'
Cons: BIG gap between 1600x1200 and 1024x768[lots of people use rez's inbetween those two like 1280x1024], controls leave much to be desired, stingy: this has got to be one of the stingyest arcanoids with the extra lives i've ever played, no difficulty settings, no help file, no description of what dropped bonuses do[green=good red=bad, but thats as far as it goes]
-
This game has potential to be very good but needs these cons looked into.
this is one of the few arcanoids i've uninstalled.

Usually the games here install and run with no problems on my computer. This is the first I've had trouble with in quite a while. Somehow, I never seem to encounter half the problems others seem to be having...however this particular game, for whatever reason, is a dud.

I installed it...activated it with no problem whatsoever, but when I ran the game, you could hear the program running in the background, but it wouldn't load on the desktop. Also very hard to get the game to close.

As I said, I rarely have problems with the games, but this was just not a good one for my computer. Thanks GGOTD, will be back as usual tomorrow!

Ciao

Despite the developer's grandiose claims, this IS just another arkanoid, and a sub-standard one at that. It plays well enough but IMO gets boring long before you get the hang of the various bonuses, etc. It'll kill some time if you're desperate, but it's not up there with some of the arkanoids given away here. Thanks muchly, GOTD! You folks rule!!
BTW, Vilulf (#4): Whoever told you that you were funny was lying to you. Would you like some cheese to go with that whine?

As usual, lots more negativity over a game that is being given away free of charge. Remember there are a whole host of people out there with differing tastes. The comments so far say very little about the game, or why they don’t like it; nothing constructive anyway, the comments do however ‘definitely’ say a lot about the personalities of the people who are spouting forth.. I would agree to a point about not having similar games on offer over such a short period of time if there was an infinite number of genres, but there aren’t. Also if I was paying for this service I would also feel a little ‘conned’ if I kept getting games of the same genre. But as already mentioned it seems some of you out there have forgotten that this is totally free and you have the choice of going away empty handed. The comments are generally uncalled for.

Thankfully I’m relatively easy going and find most games a treat to have especially free ones also I happen to find arkanoid games much more pleasurable to play or at least soothing to play, as opposed to say a Pac man or a platform game, so this game is definitely a keeper.

Of course they are only opinions so I shouldn’t really complain…… As for my comments about this game:

Firstly thank you for providing it free. It’s one of those Arkanoids that I decided to not buy after checking out the demo quite some time ago. The main reason was that except for the story line that was based on Celtic lore, and the reasonable graphics, the game didn’t inspire me to continue on once the demo ran out (twice, because I’d installed it on two computers). The power ups are run of the mill and the ball physics do not add to the game in any way.

For a much better freeware Arkanoid game called Poing go to the following address:

http://www.firestormproductions.co.uk/poing/index.php

The game has ‘superb’ ball physics ( with ball spin effects that can be turned off if you find it too difficult) and 80 levels divided into 10 different themes of really pleasant but challenging arkanoid game play, with a Z-Ball like playing arena (that is on it’s side) with interesting effects. (ie each board has hidden surprises). The graphics are good with the option of changing between 16 and 32 bit graphics, so if you have a low end graphics system, you’ll still be able to enjoy this game. The options menu is better than most and on top of all that you get an easy to use levels editor, which for a freeware game is very unusual (Kasbrik is another one). In my opinion this game is much better than some of the Arkanoids that have been offered by GGAotD

Back to the give away….

The positives for this game apart from the quaint story line include a scoring system that gives you a target to aim for. It’s reasonably challenging in that respect. The options menu allows you to change several parameters, including all the usual ones you’d expect of a game today as well as the mouse speed. With respect to that particular option, I did note that several people did say they were having problems running this game. I’m sorry to hear that; I thankfully have not had any problems.

The game runs a sweet as honey. (on two different systems ranging from a 1.5GHz cpu, 512Mb DDR RAM and a reasonable graphics card --NVidia GeForce FX 5200 128Mb---- to a---- Athlon dual core 4000+ {2 x 2.1GHz) cpu, 2Gigs DDR2 RAM and a more reasonable graphics card Nvidia GeForce 7900GS 256Mb), For those that are experiencing problems it may be that your graphics card doesn’t come up to scratch?, or that you need to adjust the mouse speed from the options menu.

There is an auto save function that saves your last completed game, so if you decide to quit half way through a board, you only have to start from the beginning of that level. You can also start from the beginning by starting a new profile.
As I have some time on my hands at this moment I thought I’d rant a little, lol: :) ……

For those who skip even downloading a game because it may not be fully explained, well all I have to say to that is…your loss. What a weak excuse for a comment. As for those who complain about the poor English that some of the developers use in trying to sell their product. Most of these games seem to be developed in non English speaking countries, some of which have very complex grammar, so I for one am impressed by their efforts. My brother in law works as a translator, and I know it can be very difficult to translate some languages such as Polish that have several male and female forms as well as neutral forms within the grammatical structure. Shame on those that have to complain about this

This game is awesome. I agree about the difficulty in reading the script that describes each mission, but have to disagree with the comments about the controls. Loaded, installed and launched with no hitches at all, easy to play, controls are fine. This and Hyperballoid a while back are 2 fab games, and yes, I would have paid for them both.

As for those of you who don't like this type of games, quit b*tching and moaning, if you don't like a game because of its genre, leave it alone, there is something FREE here every day. I bet you were the kind of people who, as kids, moaned if they didn't like the contents of your party favours bags ;-)

The mouse controls for this game are pretty awful, and I couldn't find a way to play this with the keyboard. Even setting the mouse for various speeds did no good, it's just not responsive with the game at slower speeds, and it's way too fast at the higher speeds. This is one that I uninstalled after testing the game at several settings.

Same here netbjarne(#12). We have Intel 965G graphics, and the video driver kept crashing, leaving us at 640x480 in 16 colours. This required a reboot to restore the video to its correct settings. Since we have the latest driver (Sept. 2005), Intel is no help for this. We also encountered other programs (Internet Explorer) crashing at the same time. MS had no cure, but encouraged us to keep submitting crash reports, so they have info to analyse.

d/l & install on our XP system w/cable internet was fast and flawless. Set-up worked fine. I noticed in options that it allows for mouse control (faster/slower) for those of you having some difficulties there. The game played smoothly and there were no system or game errors. The ballmoves quite fast in this arkenoid game compared with some others, so depending on your preference, it can go either way.

My recommendation to Elefun would be to allow control of ball speed to some degree, or change in difficulty levels, in order to make this game more appealing to all. Possibly make it compatible with the Vista OS folks that aren't able to enjoy the game at all.

As always, Thanks GGoTD.

*Do you think this process needs only ball, bat and blocks?*

Gave it another try on our family pc running XP OS and the game installed and played smoothly and co-operated easily with the mouse control. This type of game is new to me and reminded me of playing ping pong. My old eyes had trouble reading the introductory story line, however, one does not need to understand the 'story line' to enjoy the game. A player must pass one level before being allowed to move on to the next. I was glad to be able to mute the music and turn down the sound effects. For me, good sound effects add to the enjoyment - while the music in any game becomes annoying. I am giving this game a rating of 8.

Another breakout game except this one has really cheesy graphics and the ball doesn't really roll in a normal way. Also jerky graphics. A piss poor Arkanoid knock off. Don't waste your time. But thanks anyways GAOTD.
