Watch out for more mid week games over the next week and beyond. We have nine more games in the listings, six of which will be mid week games on top of the usual weekend giveaways. Looking at them, some look really promising, so do check back between Monday and Friday and the following week for a variety of casual arcade games. See the end of this review for links to the Epic and Indie Gala freebies this week..
Congratulations to all those who entered and won a key for the OMON ( Police crowd control) Simulator; there was a 45% chance of winning if you logged in every day. The game was supposed to have been released last week around the time the giveaway went live, but was delayed until yesterday; however, its still not available via Steam, but when you get your Steam keys, you can activate it, but not install it until it is officially released.
Mosaic: Game of Gods
In Brief
This was a Steam Greenlight project (now defunct) that was also released via the big arcade distributors such as Big Fish games a couple of years ago. It’s a casual arcade game featuring 150 mosaic puzzles that are ideal for the whole family, with two modes of play casual and timed plus excellent music score and some decent art work. It’s approximately a third of a gigabyte when installed.

The Game:
The title of this game hints to a story, perhaps to a story on a deeper level. It sounds like the game would happen between two deities who both want something. That sounded extremely interesting to me. While I didn't expect too in-depth background due to the type of this game, I was still disappointed by the lack of it. There are exactly two cut scenes, at the beginning and at the end. The title mislead me quite well for making me believe something particularly exciting would happen between the packs you have to finish.
There's not much to the characters and that's not really surprising. Still, the two main characters (and I use that term loosely) have a connection to each other. It's hard to tell what kind of relationship it is, because they never, even once, speak. So in that as well, the characters lacked depth.
It's very simple, but nice nonetheless, if you know what to expect. I expected the Fever Mode to be a timed version of the main game, but it's not. You have a certain time to finish a mosaic and you gain more time every time you finish one. So you can go on as long as you have time. It was a pleasant surprise for me, since I typically do not like timed versions. It was a nice add to the slower, more relaxed version. If you start with a Fever Mode, maybe the game mechanics work differently? That I can't say.

When you first begin the game, the main screen has BEAUTIFUL art. It was gorgeous, and had quite sharp details. The colors were wonderful too. It was pleasant to look at and I expected it to apply to the whole game. But. I was once again disappointed. The cut scene animations don't have similar style at all. Admittedly, animations rarely look as good as the main art. But the level dropped down a lot, almost made it look ugly. Visually appealing games are my thing, so to be first introduced to an amazing view and then to have it change... It was a true shame. The only good thing is, that there were only two cut scenes.
As for mosaics, all of the packs had different textures. From glass-like to rough, it was interesting - and some of the textures made the game play more challenging.
I loved the music. It hit me immediately when I began the game. I actually wished that I could listen to it some more, which is rare for me. I liked the main tune the best, but the others were quite pleasant to listen to too.

The latest games available over on Epic Games include my favorite post apocalyptic shooter 'Metro 2033 Redux' (A re-skinned version of the original release with other improvements using a newer game engine), and 'Everything' a reality simulation. You'll find them both HERE until the 3rd October when they change to Minit a sixty second adventure recommended by Jim Sterling, who holds no punches and tells it as it is when reviewing games. Also check out the latest free games over on indie Gala, they add more weekly, for example: Packed Train, Survivor Squad, Crowd Control, Merry Glade and Hell Cat; so its worth checking the site frequently as they also remove some each week. Some of the games such as the Hentai Hexa Mosaic are not suitable for children due to inappropriate content. It may also be worth checking out Good Old Games weekly as they give away games fairly regularly, for example two days ago they gave away the classic sci fi space simulation Freespace 2. You can usually find details of most of the current deals and freebies via the Epic Bundle web site. It's definitely worth checking every couple of days for details of any free games; they include games from the big guys such as Steam (fairly regularly, plus they have a stable of around 90 permanent free games), uPlay (infrequently), Epic Games (weekly) and Origin (infrequently). Also check out the Humble Store(every several weeks) and the game giveaways own game discussion forums HERE for other occasional game deals.

someone wanted to know how to get out - bottom right hand corner are two small parallel lines, click these, then select maps. This will take you to the menu where you can exit.

I am trying to activate to days game. Mosaic Games of the Gods and every time I try to Activate the game I get a pop up saying "Giveaway of the Day
Failed to launch the program"
Then an ok button to close it
???? Not sure what the problem is. I even tried downloading the file again and I still get the same results.

sherry pennington,

It's a security issue due to the wrapper that comes with the game. That wrapper, called a Themida wrapper can also hide malware, so some security will automatically block it. See my comment to Martin I've listed three ways to fix the issue. The first being temporarily turn off your security software. If you miss this message until after the giveaway ends, you can get the game via MyPlayCity. The only difference between the two is that the Inchdata folder has been removed from the installed giveaway version.

Whiterabbit-uk, Thank you :) Will download from the site. I have downloaded lots of games here over the last couple of years and I have never had that problem before. Seems like every time we get an update on windows 10 it makes something go wonky. Grrrrr
Thanks again .....I will copy the instructions and save them to my game file. Have an awesome week :)

Well, I love the opening song! And I love the art for the pictures. I tried it out without time limits....but I think it is most likely better to do it with the timer on. Otherwise, it just seems kind of dull - unless the picture get more intricate & detailed later on. For the person who didn't know how to exit..Pause/Map/Back/Exit.

How do I get out? So far the only way I've found is ctrl-alt-del which also means I have to restart from the beginning when I come back. Help???

Jen, here's how you get out: Hit the pause in the lower right, then go back to Map, choose "Back" in the upper left and then "Exit".

Why does it keep flashing and blinking when I try to play?

Reply   |   Comment by Victoria  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Victoria,

Hello Victoria, try changing the screen resolution. It may be that the resolution you have your monitor set to is not native to the game. Alternatively, try going into compatibility mode (right click on the games shortcut or executable and select properties then open the compatibility tab), change the graphic settings by checking the check-boxes you find there. e.g.

Whiterabbit-uk, do you feel that 640x480 is the recommended setting for this? Seems a bit new for a resolution that old. Or did I misunderstand you and it's a lot older than I'm assuming? Or did u just feel it was a last resort setting for Victoria, you might try the administator and Windows 7 boxes that Whiterabbit is showing checked 1st, then, as a last resort, try 640x480 too. It's a pretty old setting. Or maybe even try the full-screen optimisations box too. Don't know if high DPI would help with that kind of problem or not, WR. What do you think?

Reply   |   Comment by watcher13  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

watcher13,
Hi Watcher, No you didn't misunderstand me. I was only showing an example, and thought the way I'd worded the suggestion that implicit in the wording was 'try other settings as well'; basically fixing by trial and error.

The game is around 2 years old.

With respect to resolutions, when going into compatibility settings there are very limited options There were no other resolutions to choose from via the compatibility tab, though I didn't think to suggest changing the high DPI settings as that may have fixed the issue. I just happened to check the 640x480 check box instead of making another suggestion.

On top of this I've not been to bed or had a cat nap since Friday morning (40 hours ago), so by the time I replied to Victoria I was (and still am) feeling a little disoriented , so maybe my working wasn't as obvious as I thought it was.

Anyway, thank you for pointing it out. hopefully Victoria has sorted it out now. :)

I've had this problem with several other games, as well as this one. In the past I have found if i took it out of full screen mode the flashing stopped, although that wasn't always good for the size of the game depending on what kind of game it was (like hidden object ones)
This game wouldn't let me change to window instead of full screen without changing my screen resolutions.
I played around a bit and found that using the compatibility tab and just checking the "disable full screen optimizations" box it fixed it.

Checked back with a few other games that had the same problem and this fix works with all of them.

Marie, Yes, that worked. Thank you so much. I just removed other games that did this. Now I know if only I can remember. :)

Victoria,

Hi Victoria
The compatibility tab is always a useful 'Go To' when you have issues. There are various things you can change. Often you just need the Admin checkbox checking. If its a graphical issue there are a few options that can be tried (usually by trial and error). Finally, if you are forced to play a game in windows and you find the window is a little too small, it can be increased in size by reducing your monitors resolution to a lower setting; for example, say your resolution is 1920 x 1080 ( a common setting on newer monitors) reducing this temporarily to say an older standard such as 1024 X 768 would increase the size of your game window by about a third. Reducing it even further to say 800 X 600 or lower if your monitor allows will increase the size even more. Unfortunately, the effect of doing this can sometimes mess up your desktop icons, especially if you forget to change your monitors settings back to your usual settings then reboot. If you change the setting back before rebooting your computer; usually after finishing the game, your desktop icons shouldn't be affected.

There are programs that can help keep your desktop icons in place, even if they're messed up by a resolution change; for example, there's a decent commercial desktop locker called Icon Shepherd, or decent freeware ones such as Desklock v1.2.

If you don't want to add more programs to your computer, there is 'apparently an easy fix if you are using win 10 that only reqires you to type in a particular word in the run command and then follow instructions, delete a particular file in the hidden folder section (all explained via the following link HERE. You do need to know how to find hidden folders, which can be easily found by googling how to find Hidden Folders in Windows.

Ed Eddy's comment was translated for the English speaking community. :) He said:

''Hi Pretty nice game, but the 150 levels are played through in no time.
Too bad, a bit of variety and lowering tasks would make it a game that would still be fun after a few days.
From bigfishgames there are tons of better games ... ''
