I usually come here a few times a week, forget a few days or am too busy. I admit to having stopped reading the BladedThoth (White Rabbit / Stephen) reviews a long time ago, however. Personally, there are too many questions raised for me that give his insights any real weight. Reading his blog I am hard pressed to find that he's probably at best an enthusiast. While he may have, and is entitled to have, his fans, others are also entitled not to be one of them.

If you really want to be a good reviewer, then you should be in possession of a somewhat firm backbone, and not write to please the crowds, but to give your honest opinion, scathing as it may sometimes have to be.

I've gotten plenty of useful stuff over time from the Giveaway site and have a link to it on my own. But I don't rely upon someone else's opinion. If I can figure out how to turn on my computer and get my web browser, then I should be capable enough to download a piece of software that *might* interest me and see how it works. Each software has its own learning curve, and if a person only gives a piece of software 15 minutes to figure it out then they should probably stick to downloading and playing around with web browsers. Adobe would have sunk years ago if we all had gotten discouraged in the first 15 minutes.

On a final note, Stephen, if one comment leaves such a sting, I think as a reviewer you should ask yourself if you're really being as objective as a true reviewer should be. While you're not answerable to me, if you do this as a service, maybe the community would be better served and your growth as a writer would be enhanced if you took a honest look at the matter.

Happy 2008 to everyone.

Tried this one, too similar to the Alonix game (which I love) that was offered before, but just not as good, IMHO. Played once, uninstalled.

Right on, Karzon... else why does this forum exist at all? For our insights on the game being offered. I wonder why "Jack" is even reading this forum, if he can find out all for himself, simply by downloading the game.

I would just like to add that I always use whiterabbit's reviews, even if I download and try the game first. His positive reviews of one game made me reinstall it after removing it and I ended up liking a game after giving it more of a chance.

I am one one looks to everyones comments on the game. Sometimes I read everything White Rabbit writes, and sometimes I don't. His opinions, along with others helps me determine what to download and what not too. I feel everyone is entitled to an opinion but certainly do not have to be rude about it.

What I DON'T LIKE is having to read through 50 post of who agrees or disagrees with someone's post. White Rabbit is secure with himself and doesn't need everyone's support to build his ego, he already knows his comments are valuable to others. So, everyone PLEASE, let's keep the post to this site strictly to the games themselves so others can review pro's and con's of the game and not have to waste our time skimming through all the rest of the crap that has nothing to do with the game. Thank you!!

Re: jack #52, "and some facts and observations anyone can find by simply installing the game" -- the whole point of a review is to help people decide if downloading/installing a game is worth it for them (as many are in locations where dialup is their only option). Which might not even be an option if they missed the game that day and are wondering what past offerings were available.

To #9, Phil... what's your problem, buddy? Most of us really appreciate whiterabbit's reviews, and the time he takes to write them. Who cares about how he scores? WE do. Who cares what he thinks? WE do. If you don't, then don't read it, and stop with your inane critcism. I admit I don't read his reviews in total... I look for the parts I'm interested in, and skip down to his overview. He writes extremely well, and in a very professional and organized way, and GGAOTD is fortunate to have his views. So why don't you try keeping your second-grade opinion to yourself, as perhaps YOU are the one who's remarks people are sick of reading.

Laurie, you don't need to enter any codes, just extract contents of .zip file to your hard drive and run Activate.exe, then restart the game.

@everyone defending WhiteRabbit:

Give me one good reason he shouldn't post his reviews in a blog, and link to them in the comments (ala BladedThoth with the non-game giveaways). Don't have a blog? Tough luck. There's no reason anyone should be spamming this site with what's essentially a rehash of the game description, and some facts and observations anyone can find by simply installing the game, or looking at the developer's website.

Honestly...

I always look for Whiterabbit's comments because I know that he at least try's the games before he posts unlike so many others who moan and complain endlessly here. Please keep those comments coming. If I have trouble with a particular game, I can often figure out why because of his comprehensive posts.

I downloaded the game in the early hours before there were many comments and it installed flawlessly. It is probably not a game that will get played a lot but some of the boys will no doubt enjoy it. Because of my disabilities, I really need more mouse driven games.

To Phil (#9) You are perfectly entitled to post your opinion of the games offered here, that is what this comment section is for. But, instead, you choose to post personal attacks on another commenter, over and over again! That is just pathetic! Life is to short, get over yourself! Find a new way to vent your insecurities, get a new hobby! If you were able to write a better review I suspect you would have done that by now but you haven't so... LET IT GO!!

As for today's game, I will pass. Thanks anyway! :)

With all these so-so games, I find that I play Treasures of Montezuma way too much because it's just miles better. I would love to see a game of that caliber if possible. Some of these companies really make me miss Alawar. They may not be everyone's favorite, but I really appreciate their games.

This whole "White Rabbit" thing has gotten out of hand, and not just in THIS comment section, but in many previous days as well. Both his supports and detractors are wrong because both of them do it in such a vehement way it makes everyone including White Rabbit himself look rather feeble minded. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing with White Rabbit. The problem lies in the fact that people who disagree with him do it in such a pointlessly rude way, all they get is to be flamed by people who appreciate White Rabbit's reviews. The other problem lies in the fact that his supporters go way overboard and end up turning the comments section into a sycophantic "defend White Rabbit" tirade. Both of the parties seriously need to relax. White Rabbit is not being hurt by one person's poorly thought out criticism, nor is he benefiting from what is quite frankly people kissing his ass all the time. All of you need to put this to rest by ignoring the stupid comments and not contributing to a pointless "argument".

As I stated before, this game is creepy and not worth downloading.

Phil your opinion is that Whiterabbit aka Stephan should keep his mouth shut and my opinion is that you keep your big fat trap shut. You are soooo unappreciative. His reviews aren’t complaints about the games. His reviews are the good and the bad and his opionions are on how to improve the games.

I'm not sure why this game is receiving so many thumbs downs. It's a good game. OK it's not great but it's OK. Especially for free. Download other "free" games and decide which you prefer. I choose the games I get here. This game is a repeat but for those that did not get it the first time I would say to go for it.

I want to add my comments about the bickering. Of course everyone is welcome to express their opinion. But my opinion is that people that only bash others opinion without offering any views of their own is wrong. A person can bash a person once. A person can bash a person twice. But after so many bashes... give it up. After so many mean comments it becomes a pattern. It's a pattern of bashing that is nothing more that mean spirited comments. BTW do you have a web site? I imagine if you do you get few visitors. I don't have a wesite but I have an email address. --- email removed ---

HELP PLEASE! I am brand new to using a jump/thumb drive. I just downloaded the game to my jump drive - but when I went to try to play the game, a screen came up asking for registration name and code. There was nothing hinting to this in the readme file - and I am assuming that the registration name is to Giveaway Of the Day - but what is the code. I have decided to try to save any games and programs I choose to keep from GOTD on a jump drive - so I keep that space open on my computer. I am baffled about how to get the registration done so I can try this game out. It may be easier to just email me directly with instructions at the following email addy - fill in the spaces that I am creating as I doubt I will get back to this site at all today. --- email removed ---

Many HUGE thanks in advance & I look forward to trying to play this game. (Less anyone gets testy about my screen name - it stands for the wonderful Arabian HORSES - of which I own and breed a few of ). Laurie

White rabbit/Stephen is lengthy at times, but he's certainly a lot more informative than "I hate/love this game". Personally I love the alternatives he throws in! I find stuff through that, I would never otherwise see. Good stuff too.

Thanks for all the freebies GAOTD. I am going to have to get an external hard drive & I just bought this laptop. :) Not sure how you work this out, but if you want to give me an old game that's good, I'll just say thanks very much for the gift.

Read my review of Agent 2002 and substitute "gladiator" for "Santa". All that they really did to make that game was change the player character from this one.

Also, I don't understand why people are all praising Whiterabbit for writing his reviews when they've already done that. Sure, Phil flamed him, but it was an inept attack that Whiterabbit could easily shrug off. Whiterabbit already knows that everyone likes him(except for Phil, of course) - he's not so insecure as to need reaffirmation of that. People should direct their comments at Phil - no amount of praise to the target will deter a flamer.

Actually, I don't even read Whiterabbit's reviews for two reasons:

1. When writing mine, I want my impression of the game unaffected by others' comments and reviews.

2. They're really long and I have a short attention span when reading reviews of something that I've already played.

>Phil

"The fact that you actually like this ancient game reveals your demeanor."

"Ancient" doesn't describe this game at all. Come over to my place for a game of chess to put this into perspective.

#9 - Phil, do you work at being obnoxious, or does it just come naturally? Not everything in the universe is for your personal benefit. I often depend on whiterabbit's thorough description of a game in deciding whether to download it, and appreciate his reviews very much. Unless you have a problem with compulsive behavior, Phil, you can simply not read that which does not interest you. Surprising you didn't figure that out yourself.

I too , am one who rarely comments on a game....first I look at the game...then I read the comments....then make a decision for myself to download or pass.....and I have to say that the opinion of Whiterabbit weighs alot on it. The information he gives is very informative....and over the months I have learned alot about the "technical aspect" of each game. I find his comments vey informative and extremely unbiased. I appreciate everyones comments and experiences with the games. The old saying is everyone is entitled to an opinion........Whiterabbits comments are far more then an opinion...they state facts about the games..and I for one look forward to reading his post everyday, as I do everyone else.........opinions are like butt-holes......we all have one.....right? Thanks for the daily games GGOTD.......and thanks to all for the comments......

Thanks for another game - downloaded quickly, setup was simple and no problems playing on Windows XP. I gave this game a try - not a big fan of arrow-key play. The levels became larger/harder - not a keeper - uninstalled after 20 minutes. Thank you very much.

* I read the comments before downloading - great info in most of them, except all the child-ish bickering ... "Please comment only on the software here. If you have technical problems or suggestions on our project, please leave us a note in our forums."

SUGGESTIon: Please create a forum so all the 'bickering' can be in one place and all the SOFTWARE comments can be listed here. Thanks.

Add me in as another one who never comments, but always reads what whiterabbit has to say before deciding whether to download. I actually decided NOT to get today's option based on Whiterabbit's info (I don't like keyboard controls) so the review was hardly useless. I can see Phil's point about the comments getting longer and longer, but I'm sure we can offer our opinions without getting so snarky.

Whiterabbit.. while i dont always read your whole review, i am by nature a speed reader, i skim thru it. I appreciate your comments and so do so many here. I think GGOTD should give you your own place like they have for BladedThoth on the main site.

Phil.. you may not appreciate his comments but many of us do. I am not a mindless person and like to come up with my own conclusions BUT the time it takes me to read is quicker than downloading and trying the game just to delete. I try many games ppl say are boring but the comments i look out for are ones about the playability. If it doesnt perform well then i wont download it. Also, he is not the only one who's comments i like to look out for but his is here almost every day. But most of all he is a game lover ALL kinds of games and thats important. He always explains how he comes to his conclusions which is important to me. And i also agree with #18, your comments are not constructive.

#21... while i agree with everyone having an opinion is a liberty not all the world can enjoy, the ppl "bashing" phil are excersizing their rights as well. As u can see i didnt bash Phil even tho i dont appreciate his comment. There are alot of stupid comments i have seen posted here and i dont comment to all of them, but its very rude of him to attack someone who is doing a service to the ppl who do appreciate his comments. I just scroll past what i dont like and so could he.

Thank you to everyone who downloads, tries and then give us some info about the game, i appreciate all of them.

To #21: Had Phil simply disagreed with WhiteRabbit's opinion of the game, that would be fine. However, he attacked him, in a very rude and completely uncalled for manner. Of course people are going to jump on him. There was no constructive commentary, simply a cranky, childish little rant that smacks of jealousy.

As for the game, I'm normally not into the Pac Man clones, but after reading WhiteRabbit's review, I will be giving this one a try, as it sounds like it may be different than the usual clones I've run across. Thanks for the reviews, WhiteRabbit - I am also one who looks forward to seeing what you have to say, and I find your comments on the games to be very helpful.

To commenter #9, I have far too much time to myself generally, so actually enjoy writing the reviews most days as it keeps my head ticking over. I need something to keep my mind active, because as I've said several times in the past I have to take quite a large dose of morphine daily, which really dulls my thought processes. The reviews that come with the games are usually either non existent or overly wordy, and rarely include the facts that some would like to see. The other main reason I write these reviews is for those on dial up as I know how frustrating it can be downloading something that you later find was useless. I have a friend over in the US who lives out of town and his phone line is rather poor, so most bigger downloads can end up arriving corrupted. Having to discover this several attempts later, (that can take the best part of a day) is really no joke, especially when you find the game wasn’t suitable in the first place. If he really wants a game from this site that's more than a few Mb's then I’d hope that my reviews would help him to decide whether it's worth the download. I’m not saying my reviews are perfect, far from it as I don’t get the time to write a succinct and erudite review simply because of the nature of the giveaway project. I would if I could but I can’t

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but as others have said, this is a comment section about “the game”, and information related to the game, so why you have to constantly flame me over what I’m trying to do is a mystery? (Well…… perhaps not, as maybe you feel that my replies to previous posts that you've tried to put me down over, that have ultimately back fired on you, have something to do with it? In any case, your responses do seem rather adolescent most of the time (which you obviously aren’t as you have children of your own). Anyway, I hardly think your rants will deter me from doing what others quite obviously find useful. If they didn’t I wouldn’t continue.

There is a third reason I write these reviews, and that is to thank the developers of the games that are being given away as well as to the Giveaway team for bringing us these games. I will always try to find the good in any game, no matter how much I dislike it. As for your comment about my demeanor, I do have a very wide ranging interest in games as they do keep me entertained a lot as I can no longer pursue the hobbies and sports I used to. How you can make such judgments about a person’s character by what games they like just reinforces my feelings already mooted above.

Thank you to those that penned words of support ‘they are appreciated’ though that’s not why I write these reviews (as already indicated above). I am only human after all and sometime do find such comments hurtful; especially after all the effort I usually put in.

I would ask the moderators of these comments section to be a little more vigilante over such personal attacks as they really do have no place in a public forum such as this, despite some who say they do. I know one of our moderators has been working hard to persuade the community to stick to the point of this comments section, and has had to take unfair criticism from those who are just plain ignorant. I thank you for your hard work.

Whiterabbit, I'm someone who comes here every day and rarely posts a comment, but I want you to know I always not only read yours, I copy them and store them in with the game file. Your review often determines whether I download the game, and I've found that when I go to play the game, your comments help me get started on how to play. You list keyboard controls and give other advice which is helpful in figuring out how to play. Many of these games are not designed in english and their instructions are brief, so your reviews are invaluable, even for games already offered. Stephen my friend, don't get discouraged by bitter remarks of unkind people. You can count me as another fellow traveler as I too spend many hours between doctors' appointments exploring GAOTD's offerings. I'm sure there are lots of people like me who come and go every day without commenting who never leave without reading yours. Thank you from one of them!

Great game! Thank you so much GGOTD, this is the kind of game I've been waiting for. I had this a long time ago, I think even before windows. Loved it then, love it now. It's so much better than Pacman. At least you can use some strategy to "blow up" the enemy instead of just running from him. I love that you can save your progress, I hate games where you have to keep starting back at square one.

Whiterabbit, I like your comments. Actually I'm glad for all the comments (about the games - not each other) mostly because I want to know if a game is causing problems. If there are no serious issues I usually try the games even if the majority is thumbs down because I like to judge for myself. Just like todays game....I think it's cool! Thanks again GGOTD.

GGotD - I already tried this one when it was first offered. The arrow controls were a bother, slow to respond on a good machine on cable. But the game was fun so I persevered and played it for a long time. I'm not interested in getting it again, but thought I'd put in my two cents worth about the controls.

Thank AxySoft for partnering with you again.

#9 PHIL - Newcomers to this site can definitely benefit from all the "useless comments and requirements on a game when GGAOTD has already posted it". To be honest, I never even noticed some of the provided information at the top of this page until whiterabbit aka Stephen pointed them out. Not all of were born computer savvy and his guidance has actually made me more so about my computer in general.

And hey guys. Opinions like Phils are valid too - if only he would have reviewed THE GAME TODAY INSTEAD OF YESTERDAY.

Thanks Whiterabbit! I usually look for your comments first before downloading.

You ever think of creating some sort of gaming website geared towards "indie" games?

Add a forum to it, some ads and you might have something!
You already have some followers here to get a forum going.

Goodness gracious!!!! Whiterabbit posts a comment on a public site that not everybody in the world appreciates and one person says so and you all climb on his back and start beating him about the head with harsh words??? Since when is having a difference of opinion a bad thing? Is Stephen so insecure that EVERYBODY has to approve of what he says or he's going to leave and only give his opinion on another site???? Grow up the lot of you!!! Phil is allowed to have an opinion as well and if YOU don't like it at least be intelligent enough to realize that in some countries, being able to say that you don't agree with something is a precious liberty and not something that should draw criticism, all you're doing is trying to deny him the same freedom of expression that you yourselves are demanding the right to exercise when you criticize him. Think about it!!!
Is the game any good? I sure as heck can't judge from most of your comments...just like you won't be able to tell from mine!!!

I strongly concur with #15 and #18. I find WhiteRabbit's review more than helpful. Thank you for the time you spend doing them WhiteRabbit aka Stephen.

Phil: You need to stop giving Whiterabbit all the crap that you usually do and keep your comments to yourself. If anyone has "useless" comments it is you. I took a look at your comments over the past several months and not a single one compares to those of Stephen's. He at least has some very constructive things to say about everything and everyone. If he is put down by people like you he still comes back and says "thanks" and he always has nice things to say, even to those who put him down. Whether is it copy and pasted or not, he seems to be very knowledgable about every game that is offered here and those that are not. You never have anything constructive to say. For the most part you put everyone else's opinions about these games down and you never have any worthwhile comments of your own. IMO you need to stick to your "useless" website and your "useless" poetry (if that's what you call it), and leave the reviews and the comments to the professionals.

Stephen please keep up the good work. Most of us on here actually wait until you post a review before downloading some of these titles, and we really appreciate you and GGAOTD for your hard work.

PS, I like this game and all other Pacman clones.

When I saw the title I was hoping for a 'money sim' (like pizza tycoon and others) or - why not? - a Monopoly clone. It is pacman revisited. Pass.

Stephen aka Whiterabbit: Thank you so much for your daily comments! I very much appreciate the time and effort you put into reviewing the software, and I always look forward to your insight. Please don't let negative nellies like #9 dissuade you in any way. Thanks!

The rudeness of some people is beyond my comprehension. Usually I don't offer any comments here but the remarks made by Phil (No.9)with regard to Whiterabbit's review aggravated me so much that I simply had say something. Phil, if you didn't approve of the way Whiterabbit outlined his views regarding the merits of the game or the manner in which he assesses game playability, was it really necessary for you to make these snarky comments? Along with many other individuals who visit this site on an on-going basis, I look forward to Whiterabbit's reviews. The reviews which he presents are informative, detailed, reasonable, well-written and always presented in a positive, friendly manner. I, for one, was pleased to learn Whiterabbit's rationale for rating games for the simple reason that I attach a great deal of significance to his carefully crafted comments. He is an individual who obviously knows a great deal about various types of games and I know I can get a valid appreciation of how the game may or may not appeal to me.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone at GOTD for the excellent service which they are providing. With all of the griping, bitching and complaining they must endure on a daily basis, it amazes me that they continue to offer this service. I can only say you have much more tolerance than do I. I would have discontinued the service long ago. So all you idiots out there who persist in this childish, boorish, selfish behaviour....why don't you smarten up before GOTD decides it's just no longer worth the trouble and effort.
