Moai VI: Unexpected Guests
In Brief
The following review of Moai VI: Unexpected Guests was taken from Ladies Gamers and was the collectors edition from a switch version. We do not have the collectors edition, so the strategy guide will be missing.

You can find video walkthroughs HERE, HERE and for virtually every level HERE

Of the eight Steam community reviews all were positive except the only one written in English and their main grip was that there were no Steam achievements or Steam trading cards. You can see them HERE
The Game
Guide Hika-Ri and Kao-Ri on the adventure of their lives and enjoy countless hours of fun on the enchanted island of Tapa-Tui! In this Time management/Strategy game you’ll race to complete 80 thrilling levels that challenge you to strategically figure out the best use of your resources.

When you start Moai VI: Unexpected Guests for the first time, you’ll be introduced to the gameplay with a few tutorial levels that have been designed to teach players the basics of the game.

Each level in the game starts off by assigning players a series of objectives that they have to complete. In order to complete these objectives you’ll efficiently have to manage the workers and resources at your disposal. The goal of each level is to complete what you’ve got assigned in the least amount of time possible so that you can get a high score.

Objectives for each level are shown at the bottom right of the screen and along the top of the screen is the list of items you have in stock, food, gold and stone being some of those items. You can purchase additional items from a merchant if and when needed in some of the levels.

Moai, VI Unexpected Guests has all the usual gameplay you would expect from a time management game: clear the roads and build various buildings. Send your workers to build extra fields or goldmines, whatever the requirements are to complete the level. Along the way you pick up power-ups like Faster shoes for your workers to wear so they speed up their movements. The Horn or Plenty power-up is a good one too, as it doubles the amount of resources your workers can collect.

As well as these power-ups you can also collect Artifacts in your backpack. Equip these artefacts to your character, like the Luck Amulet which increases your goldmines production by five percent. Or the Agronomist Book which increases food production by five percent.

Along with Artifacts to collect there are also Runes. You can equip your character with four additional magic spells in each level of the game. But first, you have collected the Runes of course.

The addition of Artifacts and Runes in this genre of game is unusual but that’s not to say its unwelcome. It adds extras to look out for on the levels. You don’t always need a boost from the power ups and Runes to complete a level. But as you progress the levels do become more challenging to complete within the time limit so the extra power ups come in very handy to beat that timer.

Off course there is also an Easy mode in the options menu if you wish to play without a timer.

Moai VI: Unexpected Guests Collectors Edition can be played on the Nintendo Switch using either the control or touchscreen. Sometimes the touchscreen controls can be a bit of a hit and miss, it’s not always responsive. I mostly played using the controls which work absolutely fine as it’s just point and click the A button.

As for how the game looks, all the levels and environments of the game are packed with detail, the colors are vibrant, the animations and special effects are lovely and overall the game is a treat to look at.
Conclusion
There is great variety in this game. With its price point it’s not much more expensive than the Steam version. In my opinion it’s well worth a buy if you’re looking for an engaging time management game to have on your Nintendo Switch.

Other Stuff, mainly Games.
The latest free games from Epic Games is a clicker game called Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms. If you install and start the game before the next game changeover this coming Thursday, you get around $100 worth of extra's. You'll find details of the game HERE.

Please see Delenn's threads for other Steam and Non Steam freebies HERE and HERE respectively. There won't be new freebies every week from these sections apart from the Epic games, but it is worth keeping your eyes open regularly for details. Delenn usually posts details when a game is being offered free for a temporary period. These include games from Good Old Games, Ubisoft's uPlay client, Valves Steam client, EA Games Origin client and other indie developers. You'll find hundreds of freeware games of all arcade and indie genres on Itch.io and Caimans Games as well as other sources. Check out the game discussion forums for older posts HERE (the sticky section is useful). Many of the earlier posts may be out of date with respect to the links I and others have provided to the free games; however, you only need to know the name of the game to find most of them via other sources. Many of those games from 2008 to around 2017 were posted as part of a project to supplement the lack of weekday games when the game giveaway stopped giving games away around Easter 2008 (due to the financial crisis) until November 2019 when Falcoware stepped into the weekday slot, with the occasional limited (restricted to a specific number of Steam keys) free AAA and decent indie arcade games game from Steam starting back in 2017; (for example lucky winners have had Warhammer Vermintide 1 & 2 plus DLC for version 2, Dreadlands, DLC for World of Tanks and World of Warships, The Last Roman Village, ADM: Angels, Demons & Men and the sequel ADM 2: When Worlds Collide, U-BOOT 1945, Mount & Blade: Warband, Immortal Unchained, Onion Force, 1993: Space Machine, Runaway VR, Jump Step Step, Megamagic: Wizards of the Neon Age, Tree of Life, Star Vikings Forever, Rogalia, Alien Hallway 2, Cargo Cult: Shoot'n'Loot VR, Bold New World, several Forge of Gods dlc packs e.g. Team of Justice Pack, The Apotheosis Project, TangramsVR, Mighty Party dlc, UnnyWorld - Founder's Pack, SteamWorld Dig, Minion Masters, Dreamals: Dream Quest, Destroyer: Invasion, MIND SHIFT, Madrobot X, MIND BLOX, MIND TWINS - The Twisted Co-op Platformer, Next Up Hero, Runaway VR, ZBlitz with 1000 Gems, Conan Exiles as well as others).

I've not posted details of any Indie Gala freebies since my older computer went on the Fritz back in October last year. Since then Indie Gala have added quite a lot more free games, some of which are definitely worth downloading. You can find the latest freebies HERE and their showcase list, which includes all the freebies still current; (many of which have been included for a couple of years now) HERE.

It’s worth adding these links to your favorites and checking regularly for available freebies. Most are only free for a specific time. If you miss the deadline you’ll miss out. Once added to your account, they are yours to keep. :)

Whiterabbit-uk, This verision is NOT XP compatible AS installed since the executable that inserts a launch of their website "C:\Program Files\ToomkyGames.com\MOAI 6 - Unexpected Guests\Moai6UnexpectedGuests.exe" requires at least Windows VIsta to be loaded and run. "C:\Program Files\ToomkyGames.com\MOAI 6 - Unexpected Guests\game.exe" is XP loadable so if anyone wants to test or use this under XP or avoid the unecesary browser launch modify the shortcut for the game to point to "game.exe" and not "Moai6UnexpectedGuests.exe" and there is an unmentioned system requirement of a Direct3D hardware accelereted video driver and hardware, having software rendered Direct3D support of DirectX 9.0 is NOT enough. It is 32bit windows compatible.

snakeman,

Hi Snakeman, did you check to see if the graphic card fans needed cleaning. They can get clogged up with dust. When I fist started to build serious gaming computers about 15 years ago, I installed a pair of GTX 275's which ended up overheating due to the fans being clogged with dust. I'd not thought to clean them regularly. That was before gaming cases included filters to keep out all but the finest dust particles. Most of our floors are either marble or wood apart from two of the bedrooms that have carpets (though all the rooms with wooden floors have rugs), yet the amount of dust that collects is still amazing.

really like the MOAI "series" but they all become very hard (specially when the ghosts appear it's click, click, click - killing my mouse (lol)-). I know, I could play the easy way but less challenging!!

My question where to find reading soluces (i know you give YouTube links but not easy for a non english native speaking, I can easily read but less by hearing, maybe they speak too fast and I couldn't say (sorry could you repeat -lol-)
Thanks
Gil

voorbijganger,

Yes, regularly. Usually when we have a game in the admin lists that will be given away via TooMky Games.

I'll download it so that I can prepare the review.
