Please excuse my absence over the last few days, I'm a little off colour at the moment. The whole family has been on and off ill for a few weeks now. My daughter and wife have both been off work; thankfully my wife has been cleared to be able to drive again and is returning to work with a reduced workload next week.
Mini Planet 2:

In Brief:
Mini Planet 2 is virtually the same game play wise and the same mechanic as the previous giveaway Mini Planet that was given away two weeks ago HERE

Apart from a different background image that comprises of two stitched together images. (When you pass into the second image you appear to disappear momentarily while the image switches). Also, in this second version you actually get a weapon to destroy the asteroids. So, when you first boot up the game you can either press the back arrow or the space bar to move back or shoot the oncoming asteroids. As with the first one, on spawning, you need to do one of these two actions immediately (preferably shooting), otherwise you get the You Lose message almost instantly due to one of the asteroids hitting you.

Ammunition is limited to ten shots; however, ammo is added every three or four seconds but only up to a maximum of ten.

You can see a video of game play HERE.
Controls:
Left Arrow = Move Left
Right Arrow = Move Right
Up Arrow = Move Forward
Down Arrow = Move Backward
Space = Fire Weapon
Mouse Click = Restart after the 'You Lose' message
Conclusion:
This is basically a copy of my original conclusion (with some additions and omissions) to the first game; although I think the addition of the weapon has actually made this game far too easy . Once I discovered there was a weapon I was able to complete the level after shooting two asteroids at the start and another one or two around the middle of the 100 seconds you get to complete the level. I repeated the game three times and each time the level was exactly the same. After completing the level, you just start the same level over and over.

The game could have be a reasonable coffee break game, but the lack of any other game play elements such as different ships, randomly generated asteroids, more background images, more levels and maybe some upgradeable weapons and enemy ships makes the game lack lustre and it quickly becomes very tedious to play; especially as there appears to only be the one 100 second level.

As I said when Mini Planet was given away last month i.e.

''In all honesty I could not recommend this game. It may keep you occupied for a few moments, but after playing it through a couple of times, you'll realise that there's only a few minutes of game play before the game ends abruptly. In my opinion it's not even a demo; at least the old demo games from years ago and those now available on Steam and other big name developer clients such as Ubisoft and Origin at least give you a decent hours worth of game play or several levels of game play that you could replay to your hearts content.''

Just take a quick look over on Steam and you can find some excellent free, very cheap or demos of various space shmups (SHoot eM UPS) for example there's an excellent demo of Vortex HERE, that not only gives you much more with respect to game play, but it's a much more challenging shmup than todays game. There's also a free game with vaguely similar game play called Pangaroids, that has more playability. Those took me less than a minute to find after Googling 'shmups on Steam'.

Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 61 antimalware engines. You can see the scan HERE

Whiterabbit-uk, Hope your loved ones recover soon. So: this is a poor and "single-level" clone of Asteroids, right? Hmm … think I'll pass. :)

Whiterabbit-uk, I'm sorry, I usually have no interest in the Weekday games, and some are not compatible on my old system, and on the Weekends I often get so immersed in sport that I come here very late and, when I do post, I forget to say this:

Very sorry to here about your family's health and other issues. Of course, you have all of our hopes that these problems die down and are worked out. Even the limited things you've been able to do recently have been valuable - as always - so, put family and yourself 1st, and we're all pulling for you.

And thanks to Jason and DataDragon for stepping up to fill in. Hope your tech problems work out, Jason.

Whiterabbit-uk,
I agree with the others - I hope you and your family are getting better soon.

100 seconds to survive a meteor shower until help arrives...with no help arriving? Instant Death upon startup unless you shoot or move back... Not an asteroids clone - its just avoiding them and shooting them doesnt break them down smaller. No shields, no other ship firing at you. No upgrades. No Fun. Graphics are ok, why not remove the timer and experiment.

'Open World' - You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride. Open World is two screens.

If you survive the 100 seconds countdown, you get a You Win...

Rating: E (plus detention after school for repeat offense - please watch asteroids, scramble, and sinistar arcade game videos and think about what you did)

Forgot to add, The asteroids did kind of remind me of those in the great classic Sci fi anime STAR BLAZERS/yamato series (unintentionally of course) but theres no saving earth from them here by shooting them down, or other reason to be attached to either the ship and its crew. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unqTQGFUXWU

DataDragon,

Someone should make a game based on the series. It would be great if a decent developer took it on board.

Sorry, moderators may not approve this and that's fine - and I hate to "look a gift horse in the mouth", though that might have revealed the Greeks at Troy - but I feels somebody needs to ask this sooner or later and Mini-Planet 1 & 2 is a perfect time to ask it:

Falcoware, is giving all of these barely playable games - that don't even have save functions - or, in this case, have 1 tiny level, actually working for you? I would think that it would just make people not come here on the weekdays. Not that I would expect you to give away a game in your inventory that's making you tons of money, but maybe games that are playable for more than a few minutes or practically seconds in today's case. Though I understand Whiterabbit correctly calling some of the slightly playable ones "coffee break games", I have plenty of games that have hours of play that I can play a section or 2 in 5 or 10 minutes. I also realize that some of these are similar to phone/mobile games, but I wouldn't - and couldn't - fill up my phone with 100s of these, so why would I do it to my tablet, or laptop, or desktop. Just more barely usable & very limited value programs I have to keep track of. One reviewer on Steam calls yesterday's game an "asset flip" and said that Steam calls these asset flips "fake games". That's not the only time someone has said that on Steam about these weekday games.

So, again, Falcoware, I know you have many games on your site, is giving away these barely developed and often barely playable games working for you? If it is, I understand then why you're giving them away.

mediaman13, Hi!
Steam is publishing about 50 games daily. We have to run in this race.

Games are a fuel for our business. Less games daily and we become weak and die.
