Win10 Home, 64 bit. First try of download it failed at 19 seconds and 6MB to go. So tried it again and this time it loaded and well, nah. Most boring game I have ever tried. Others might like it. Next. Thank you. Rozapk

Great game,
Both girls love it very much (7 and 13 year old)
Does anybody know where the game keeps track of the score and how we can reset this and start from scratch (as the youngest has lost all the games and more than the oldest had won)
Anyway, a simple but fun game

Maybe everybody else is having the same problem as me? I can't comment because I can't install the game. Keeps saying "Failed to connect. Please try again later."
I thought at first it was my computer as I just "took my computer back to factory" so to speak, and as I haven't seen that error for years, so for kicks and giggles I tried at another computer- same problem! Also tried hitting the FAQ that you (White Rabbit) posted but rebooting my router(s) and switches didn't make a difference either. Must be (G)GOTD side problem. Can White Rabbit please install today's game on another computer for verification please?
I'm having a hard time finding the other suggestions referenced in the FAQ "comments from GMMan, Chris and Mike. They have also posted their possible fixes for this problem.". Could those be added to the FAQ page as well?

Very simplistic, but I do like the physics and some of the ways you can change things up a little bit. Everything is huge when it's at its default full screen display setting, but playing it in a window of half the resolution of your screen resizes everything to something more reasonable. I might play it now and then... thank you PlayJoWee Publishing and GGOTD!

Not trying to be unkind at all, but I simple do not like port to PC games. Leave the game where it was designed to be played and be happy with what you got.

To the Game Developers:
I have a tablet, a PC and a smartphone, and I have games on all of my devices. I really dislike when game developers simply port an OBVIOUS android game to PC and try to sell it as a PC game. Games MEANT to be finger/touchscreen controlled often do not work well with a mouse. This is especially true of "physics-based" games like these. This game appears to be MUCH more appropriate for an app of the day giveaway than for a PC game giveaway. For me, free is too high a price for an android game clumsily ported to PC platforms, and I would never actually pay for such a game.
I usually just skip these types of games, but since we're seeing a lot of tablet games ported to PC lately, I thought I'd leave the feedback, as that is why the games are here to begin with.

Thanks for pointing out the refreshed game at Origin (EA now) C&C RA2. Now that's a winner.
This mess here. Ran ok Win 10 x64 Pro. Only positive thing about it. There have been some awful games on GOTD.
Surprise, another one. Maybe for tablet? 0/10 and that's being easy on it. -10/10 for wasting my time.

Well, this is a really unusual game, with elements of curling and billiards. It's slow, allowing each player a chance to line up shots, but the accuracy of the arrows/power is sometimes slightly off (as you might expect a game on ice to be). The trick here is not to blast the puck but to use a bit of finesse to nudge the puck where you want it to go. Also, the strategy of knocking your opponents away from the puck and putting them in a position where no shot is available (like billiards)equates to "checking" as in real hockey. The curling aspect comes in when you line up shots to carom off your opponents players. Also, a very good move is to station one of your men in front of their net. This way, if the puck is anywhere in their end, and they are backed into a corner, there a very real possibility that their shot will go off your man into the net. It's not so much hockey in terms of speed (because it's a slow game) but one of strategy and thinking ahead. Add in the questionable accuracy of the aiming and shooting, and you have a pretty good, of highly unusual game. It's NOT air hockey in the strictest terms of the game. It IS different and cool, and playing against other people instead of the same AI makes it different each time out.

aaaahhh the tranquility of GGOTD opposed to the mayhem currently on the TS forums is....refreshing
I don't like PJW games in general but I might make an exception for this one. Seems like a nice little timewaster in the idea of an old fashioned airhocky game with a little twist. Full screen with lots of resolutions available. I must say PlayJoWeed.... if I would rate your other games 3/10 this one might very well be a 7/10. It is simple, seems it can be addictive to certain people as well
I hope you didn't encounter any problems with the TS update Stephen? What a mess again this year... sigh

Mini Hockey Stars:
Installation:
Mini Hockey Stars downloads as a 25 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me document that contains the terms and conditions and a wrapped dual activation and set up module and a security set up file (setup.gcd). Just for the newcomers amongst today’s users that means the game will be registered once it’s gone through the set up process, so there’s no registering the game with an activation code.
C:\Games\MiniHockeyStars_Game
To install a desktop shortcut make sure you check the appropriate box during installation. Sometimes I've found the installation path shows the previous game I installed from this site, so to be sure you don't install the game inside a previous game, check the installation path when you start the installation. You can usually find where it's supposed to go by looking in the read me file that comes with the download. To stop this happening, clear your cache. The installed game is 66.6 MB in size
If you have any problems installing or registering todays game, check the problems section below.
Introduction:
The Game:
Choose your hockey team, defend your nation’s colors or choose premium skin. Collect all
hockey teams, collect all formations and improve your skills.
Features:
Online and offline multiplayer;
Simple, dynamic gameplay;
Excellent physics on the ice;
Play against your Facebook and VK friends;
Collect hockey teams and tactical positions.
Mini Hockey Stars is a reasonable android port to PC, with colorful okay graphics and gameplay that is ideal for short breaks from other more in depth games and/or work. You can play online with friends or other people who have registered. Just put in a name and you'll get some hits unless the name is really obscure.
On starting the game you are presented with a configuration window with two tabs, one for graphics and one for the input. The graphics tab allows you to choose whether to play in a window or full screen as well as choose your screen resolution (15 configurations for both wide screen and standard ranging from 640x480 to 3840x2160). You can also choose between 6 graphic settings from Fastest (ideal for those with poor graphic support; i.e. usually those with only a motherboard graphics chip in place, to Fantastic, which usually requires at least an additional graphics card be installed. These settings range from Fastest, Fast, Simple, Good, Beautiful and Fantastic. If you have a multi-monitor set up, you can choose which monitor the game opens up to
The input tab details the primary and secondary key bindings for each control (both are needed if you play local two player). I've only listed the primary bindings for the keyboard below. There are also settings for a Joystick and you can use the mouse to play instead of the keyboard. All keybindings can be changed to accomodate user preferences by clicking on the binding you want to change then selecting the key you wish to use in its place:
Horizontal (+) ....... Right Arrow
Horizontal (-) ........ Left Arrow
Vertical (+) ...........Up Arrow
Vertical (-) ...........Down Arrow
Fire 1 ..................Left Ctrl(L.strg)
Fire 2 .................. Right Alt
Fire 3 ..................Left cmd key (equivalent to the windows key)
Jump ..................Space
Once you've configured the game you can start. The first screen you are presented with comprises of three fields that need to be filled in before you can create a profile. These are Name, Login and Password. This is required if you want to play online with friends. Once you've registered you will be visible online to other players if they know your name. ( for example i've used my first name Stephen, so, if someone searches for a Stephen i and anyone else with the name stephen, or similar names like Stephanie will show up when i wish to play online. you'll find most, if not all of them will be offline). Once you've filled in the three fields and clicked on the purple 'sign up' button you are taken to the main menu where you can start the game or change various paramenters such as the language (button to the top left of the main menu); there are eight language selections available. These are Eng, Cze, Ger, Spa, Ukr, Prt, Slk and Russian languages). Next to the language button (represented by the flag of the nation you have chosen) there is the volume on/off toggle, there is no volume control, but you can access your computers volume mixer )next to your clock) to control the loudness of the music. Next to the music button is the log out button. You can create more than one profile, but to play a different profile you must log out when leaving the game if the game is to be shared between family and friends. To the left of the play button you should see your avatar and name and directly underneath the name is a button that allows you to see your game play statistics that tells you the number of wins, the total wins that everyone has played, the number of goals you have scored and the number of games you have played. I presume you can change your default avatar image as I saw lots of different images of people when I was checking to see if the online pqrt of the game worked, butm I've not had time to see how to do this.
You can also see how much money you have, which can be used to buy new skins etc. The images of the pucks above the play button show you which skins you are using. These can be upgraded by spending the money you earn by winning games. To access the shop click on the basket symbol, this give access to a variety of skins and starter positions on the table at the start of a game. You can also buy access to an editor (costs 8 stars). There are loads of skins to choose from, costing from 200 to 252000 game dollars. there are four categories to choose from, Teams, Flags, funny and Premium skins. The cheapest skins are team and flag skins. Clicking the Positions button gives you access to various starter positions (all costing 200 game dollars). There are also four free field designs you can choose from.
Once you've set the game up you can start the game proper, there is a back arrow to return to the main menu where you can start the game. There are five modes, Blitz, Champ, Friends (play online against friends), play against the AI or a two player local game. If you choose the friends mode this opens up what initially appears to be a blank screen with a single button at the top middle of the screen called Player search. Clicking on this opens up a search field where you type in the name of your friends. I've not been a ble to test whether this works as I don't know anyone who is playing the game. You both have to have the game running and are online for the search function to work. To test it I chose a random name (John), this presented me with 10 different names for example John Sales, Chris Johnson etc; each one had an avatar, sometimes a picture of the player (so I presume you can change the default avatar). Under each avatar it tells you whether the person is online or offline and below that another button that says 'Add'. Clicking on one of these adds that person to your 'friends list, and changes the background color to light grey. Whether the person I chose is notified when he goes online I haven't a clue :?: Hopefully some one in the giveaway community will be able to clarify this later. :) When you click the back button from the player search, you can see whoever you've added to your 'friends' list; (though it's not actually called a friends list). These can be deleted by clicking on the bin symbol next to each person you've added. I tried several names at random and every one picked up several people for example when I searched for Jane I got hits like Bajanek Robert, Richard Janecek, Janere Nunes etc. The blitz mode has seven levels of difficulty, all but the first are locked at the start of the game. Each successive level earns greater rewards in the form of dollars (I think ) and stars (you need 8 stars to unlock the editor). Unfortunately I don't have time to play every mode. When playing two player you will need to use both the primary and secondary keys, one for each player. If like me you can add two keyboards to your computer, playing with two players is much better than sharing one keyboard. :)
There is a gift button which requires four figure codes. I don't know whether you earn these codes or they are specific to the android version of the game, maybe someone from the community can clarify this. thanks.
Clicking on the Install button opens up a web page to the developer where you can see brief reviews , information about the game and the developers address and email. and whats new (i.e. Network server updates: fast connection, friends search, Guest or Facebook login support, Play with Facebook friends and Add Google plus login. There are two buttons to the bottom left vk and f. F = facebook and vk takes you to the developers forum where you can post about the game see a public poll on the game (all in Russian). to be able to post on that page you need to create a free account.
Finally, the game play. It's basically air hockey, which I presume most people have played at one time or another in their life so I am not going to go in depth with respect to the rules and how to play, those you can learn as you play. The game physics are fairly realistic, with Newtonian physics being well emulated (i.e For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. {third law}). To move one of your pieces, you first need to select it by clicking on it then click on it again, but this time keep the mouse button depressed then drag your mouse pointer in the opposite direction to where you want the puck to go. The further you drag away from the piece the stronger the push, their is a faint circle that appears around your piece showing you the strength of the shot.. As you become familiar with game play you will also find changing the start up positions useful for using different tactics. Overall this is a very nice air hockey simulation.
Suggestions for the Developer:
1) .... Increase the selection of playing fields to included larger fields.
2) .... Be able to leave messages to potential playing partners so that you can arrange to meet at specific times.
3) .... Have a link to Skype so that you can use the webcam features when playing with friends online
4) ... Include the number of goals you've let in by other players and have stats separated for the different modes
5) .... Have an online leader board for each mode
6) .... Create different leagues for different abilites, for example a newbie league for those who are new to the game and a veterans league for those who have played many hpurs. you could move up the different leagues by linking your stats. Scoring more points for the more difficult modes so as not to get a biased result and end up being out of your depth when playing others who have played the harder modes.
You can get the android version of this game for free from HERE or HERE
Video:
You can see a couple of videos of game play HERE and HERE.
Game System Requirements:
Microsoft Windows NT/ 2000/ XP/ Vista/ 7/ 8/ 8/.1/ 10
Pentium 200 MHZ or better
256 MB System RAM
70 MB HD space
800x600 display resolution mode or higher
High or true color highly recommended
Internet connection
Conclusion:
A simple but well presented air hockey game that's been ported over from Android phones. Overall this is a very decent simulation, with several modes of play, including the ability to play online with friends and strangers alike.
The only downside is that there is hardly anyone online. If you have friends who play this, then you can arrange to be online at the same time then play together. Looks very promising, especially as the Newtonian physics are well emulated. I've really enjoyed playing this, both against the AI and a two player game with my daughter.
I couldn't see any discernable difference between the fastest setting (with the poorest graphic setting) and the best graphic setting.
Scoring:
I've included new categories to reduce the the scoring bias that is inevitable when a single person is scoring a game. Scoring will be added once I've had time to play the game.
Game play ------- 9
Graphics ------- 7.5 ( Basic graphics, but ideal for the type of game)
Audio ------- 8.5 (there is no music, just sound effects, which were excellent)
Replayability ------- 8
Originality ------- 8
Fun Factor ------- 8.5
Total = 49.5 out of 60 which equals 8.25 out of 10

Problems:
If you have any problems installing or getting today's game to work please go HERE for help. I've posted most of the common problems and solutions in a FAQ thread, which you can find in the sticky section of the forums by following the above link.
If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums; in the game discussion section, because I cannot moderate 24hrs a day over the weekend. I've created a thread HERE for that purpose. If you've installed the game but it doesn’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at a later date. Unfortunately if your problem is actually downloading it, once the giveaway deadline is reached you will no longer be able to download the game unless you've already started downloading it before the cut-off. Sometimes you can still register the game after the giveaway has ended so long as you managed to start the download before the giveaway ends. I've tested this and the grace period lasts for up to 1 hour. Apart from the above instances; i.e. already installed, but having problems running the game, (with the possibility of receiving help from the community via the giveawayoftheday game discussion forum); or still downloading after the cut off period, but within the 1 hour grace period, or registering within an hour of the cut-off period. Once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done to get the game (unless its available from one of the free game sites) until the game is given away again (though that isn't always guaranteed).
It's worth checking the giveaway game discussion forums the day before the giveaways go live to see if we are getting a large sized file; this is especially important for those who have slow connections and even more so if the game is popular. We can have up to forty thousand (40 000) community members downloading over the 24 hour period, with the bulk of community members downloading in the first 12 hours of the giveaway going live, there is always a massive strain on the giveaway servers. The bigger the file size, the more community members will be downloading at any one time. Because the bandwidth is shared equally amongst all community members, downloads can become excrucatingly slow, so if you do have a slow connection, its important to start your download as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Because these games are free, the giveaway owners cannot invest in more bandwidth without compromising the whole project, so we have to be satisfied with what we have at present.
I hope the above goes some way in expalining why we sometimes have really slow downloads.
It’s always worth checking out the free games sites because sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them. MyPlayCity (MPC) has the most with over 1000 games to choose from. Today's game isn't available from MPC HERE. I've not checked the other free game sites.
If you do download any games from MyPlayCity, Gametop or the other free game sites please 'do' watch out for toolbars etc. Make sure you un-check the check-boxes during installation, and, in the case of MyPlayCity, every time you boot the game up, (this may have changed now as these free game sites tend to change the format frequently)....... I've posted links to all of the common free game sites below in the games, games games section. If you do download a game from any of these sites you do so at your own risk. We cannot be held responsible for problems arising from an installation. :)
For now I won't be recommending you download games from Jenkat Games. They have changed the way you get games from their site. Diane has posted information about this over in the game discussion forums. If I have time or remember, I'll link to it. TooMyk Games are now safe to download from. They have removed the games that were suspect and have cleaned up their act. As always, you download from those free game sites at your own risk. The giveaway site is the safest site I know of where you can get free software and games. The only disadvantages with downloading from here is you have to download and install within the day of the giveaway (apart from the instances mentioned above and if and when you upgrade or buy a new computer legally you aren't allowed to transfer games given away previously, unless they are being given away on the day you upgrade, or if you've purchased a licence. :)
You just have to look at the sites track record since the game giveaway site was created back in December 2006. Zero games given away have been infected with malware, there are no toolbars installed, nor home pages hijacked or browsers changed. There is one slght annoyance, but that only occurs if a community member isn't paying attention when the final window pops up after installing a giveaway. That is the software Informer installation. some community members have complained that they were given no choice in its installation. That is not true; when the final window pops up, there are two buttons, one asking if you want software informer installed and the button to close the giveaway window down. Some community members have clicked on the wrong button, probably because they weren't paying attention. Thankfully software Informer is a genuine application, that can easily be uninstalled by the usual means. It's actually a useful piece of software, especially if you have a lot of applications running on your computer. Basically the program will list the programs that need updating, or programs that have available updates. They wont be automatically installed (thus cancelling many giveaway registrations); you have to click on individual buttons to update each program/application. :D
Games, Games, and yet more Games:
There are 442 games on sale over on Steam this week, ranging from 10% to 90% off. Also there is a Warner Bros. Publishers weekend with up to 75% off Warner titles (for example: Mad Max, Mortal Kombat X, Mortal Kombat Kollection, Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition, The Lego franchise, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor GotY, Batman Arkham franchise, Bastion, F.E.A.R (you can still get the F.E.A.R. bundle from Bundle stars for even less and that bundle includes all 5 of the F.E.A.R. titlesat a cost of £3.26 . I've linked to bundle Stars below), Gauntlet™ Slayer Edition, Hot Wheels™ World’s Best Driver™, Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition, Lord of the Rings: War in the North, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure. The weekend deals include Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide. (You can play these for free with everything unlocked till Sunday 1pm PST, IMO thefirst game is still one of the best open world zombie apocalypse games available and fantastic if you play cooperatively with friends). Also included in the weekend deals is the Call of Duty franchise with up to 67% off. There's looads more in the weekly sales and the 48 hours sales to choose from. almost certainly something for everyone. :)
You can find a full list of all sale items HERE.
You'll also find some excellent deals over on the following Game sites.
GreenManGaming They usually have coupons to the value of 23% and sometimes more off pre ordered games. I've just pre ordered Just Cause 3 XL and XCOM 2 using a voucher and saved £22 on the price paid in the Steam store
Gamersgate Summer Sale
GOG (DRM free games)
Gamestop
GameFly (soon to be sold off)
I've removed the Desura link because the owners are bankrupt and there has been no activity on the site in months. The servers are still live (at least until Bad JoJo's subscription to the servers has ended, Bad JoJo are the owners of Desura and Indie Royale, or were until filing for bankruptcy). If you own any games via Desura I advise downloading all of the drm free games you have on that platform and on the Indie Royale site before the sites are taken down.
Free Game Sites:
MyPlayCity (over a 1000 games to choose from)
Gametop
FreeGamePick
To be honest there are too many game deals around too list them all. Just visit the sites I recommend above and I'm sure you'll find something that suits you for a very decent price. If like me you prefer Steamworks games, many of the above sites also sell steamwork games.
If that's not enough, check out the Game Discussion forums HERE for details of other games either free or on deals such as the Indie Game bundles (there's over 20 of them - If you purchased all of them you'd be paying around $80 for around a thousand dollars worth of games); or check out the four day sales at IndieGameStand. you'll find the indie bundles thread HERE. The thread is outdated, but all of the links will still take you to the latest bundles.
