I was intending on posting a short review for this game earlier today, but realized Christmas shopping still needed to be done. The weekend is out for me as those last few days before Christmas are the worst with respect to traffic ques, parking and shops full to capacity. so decided it was time. anyway, I spent virtually all day out so by the time I returned home didn't feel like playing this game until about an hour ago. So the following review is a stripped down version of my usual reviews. I've removed most of the sections I usually include and have just included screen captures and my first thoughts. I will be playing this game again as i need to find out if there are multiple levels, or just the one scenario. I never got to the end as i kept dying.

Medieval Survival
In Brief
Medieval Survival is a monster shooter based in a medieval village environment
Installation:
Medieval Survival downloads to a 165 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set-up file and a read me). If you have multiple hard drives you can save games on any drive you wish by replacing the C drive letter in the path with whatever drive letter you wish the game to be installed to. The newly installed game is 434 MB in size. The game installs to the following path by default:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Medieval Survival
However, if you prefer a different path for installation for example I use G:\Games\ name of game instead of 'C:\Program Files (x86)\name of game'. You can edit the default path when the Setup - Medieval Survival- Select Destination Location window appears.
Five shortcuts are installed to the desktop, four of which can be safely deleted (i.e. Falco Space - Online Game!, FalconLine Online Games Website, FalcoGo WebGL Games! and Free Games Downloads!). If you don't want to install the games shortcut to the desktop during installation, just make sure the install desktop shortcut is unchecked when the 'additional task's window appears; you will still get two of the other Falcoware shortcuts installed (i.e. FalconLine Online Games Website & FalcoGo WebGL Games shortcuts). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you also uncheck the appropriate checkbox when the 'additional task's window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window).

The Game:

My first (and lasting) impressions of Medieval Survival. Outwardly the game looked well presented, though the difference between the six graphic quality settings was negligible. The lowest setting looking slightly blurry around the edges, but there was hardly any other noticeable effects.

Game play wise, it was all I could do to survive as the automatic rifle, although supplied with 999 bullets soon became depleted. Each monster requiring at least a full magazine to kill. I was constantly running around the maze of streets and occasionally getting trapped inside buildings, then dying. Then I discovered I also carried 200 grenades. These were a little more effective, but you needed to time your throw to be certain you killed your pursuers. There is no way I could stand my ground and survive more than a minute in this game. I tried loads of times, but soon got fed up of trying, so closed the game down. If you are up for a real challenge, then this may be a reasonable game. I definitely liked the environment and would have loved to have been able to explore every nook and cranny; but being constantly hounded by various skeleton warriors with swords spiders and were-wolves, I never had time to window shop.

Conclusion:
At it's present sale price and/or free I think this would just about be acceptable, but at full price, I definitely wouldn't buy it in its present state . There's a lot the developer Falcoware could do to improve the game; for example, if it included some difficulty levels, a couple of different modes, with a boss level as well as more than one environment, for example a forest, an open plan village these w could fit in with the medieval theme, though, as one community member has already mentioned medieval rifles, grenades and pistols, lol. That said, It has a reasonable selection of weapons though the rifle is definitely under powered. The ability to lean left and right, crouch, a melee command, plus iron sights for both the pistol and rifle were a welcome addition, which I've only seen in one other of the FPS games we've had from Falcoware. . In my opinion it was more enjoyable that all the previous shooters we've had on offer over the last few weeks, but it's still got a long way before I would call it re playable. I was okay for several minutes, but it did become a little tedious very quickly due to the lack of multiple levels and options. All that said, this is a tongue in cheek shooter using the Unity engine and is as already mentioned dirt cheap while on sale, you cannot expect a beautiful shooter like Battlefield 2 or a Left 4 Dead zombie shooter, both of which when first released were almost two orders of magnitude more expensive than today's offering.

If Medieval Survival doesn't interest you, but you still hanker for something new to play, you'll find details of some game deals whether they be sale items, indie bundles or games being given away for free HERE (I've not updated the thread in a while, but most of the links still take you to the latest deals).
The rest of the information that used to be posted in the game review can be found in the forums HERE. Finally, check out Delenns threads for details of other free games and offers HERE and elsewhere in the game discussion forums HERE, (usually on the first page of the game discussion forums).
The deals on Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion and Geneshift have now ended, but you can still get Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion with 75% off until 6pm UTC this evening. Subnautica is still free until 27th December HERE. to get it you require the EPIC games launcher and a free account.
