The Game:
Helen Jones has a knack for helping people find that "special someone." After retiring to a small seaside community she keeps on doing what she does best: helping the townspeople find true love in Matchmaker: Joining Hearts. Unfortunately there’s not much to love about this by-the-numbers hidden object game.

Helen’s uncanny knack for match-making is based on her philosophy that you can learn a lot about a person (and what kind of romantic partner they might be compatible with) from what kinds of items they surround themselves with. So, when a person comes to Helen for romantic advice she starts by searching their house for a list of items. The items she finds defines the person’s interests: a basket of apples, sandwich and chef’s hat, for example, means the person is a bit of a gourmet.

Next, Helen explores rooms belonging to several potential suitors and draws up similar lists of interests. Those interests are then compared (via an insultingly easy mini-game) and the best match is selected.

In the next phase of the courtship, Helen helps her client select an appropriate gift, which involves another hidden object search to find all of the pieces of the object. Then it’s on to the first date, which involves putting objects back into the scene.

This formula is repeated through 10 levels, offering perhaps 2-3 hours of gameplay in total. The game offers both an untimed mode and a timed mode (in the latter, you get about 20 minutes per scene, which is ample). Hints are unlimited.

The good? Well, at least it’s a theme that hasn’t been done to death. (Yet.) Helen comes off as a sweet and helpful character, and her clients include both men and women in their 30s, 40s and 50s. But the farther into the game you go, the more you’re likely to become bored by its formula. Even the voice-overs that were pleasant enough seem to peter out, and we get only a barebones introduction to each new character – to the point that it’s really hard to care about whether they find true love or not.

You can search for objects from a list or by silhouette. Objects repeat frequently and are always in the same place when you have to revisit a scene. The art style is of the "let’s cram a bunch of clip art randomly onto the page" variety – certainly nothing to write home about. The part of the game that really falls flat, though, is where you have to place items back into the scene. The art simply isn’t crispy enough, nor the objects well-drawn enough, for you to figure out what half of them are, let alone where they belong.

In spite of a cute theme that could have proved to be a big hit around Valentine’s Day, Matchmaker: Joining Hearts simply fails to deliver the goods.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Free or Discounted Games:
Please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE (non-Steam games) and HERE (Steam games) for the latest freebies. It's kept up to date frequently, (thanks for keeping this up to date Delenn, very much appreciated). There are a lot of sites that now offer free games such as TooMKY games, MyPlayCity games, Gametop, FreeGamePick and others. One of my favorites that has been around for around twenty years is Caiman's Games, where you'll find thousands of freeware arcade games covering almost every genre I can think of. You can find Caimans games HERE. The site used to be updated every week, but since the founder of Caiman's, Rudy Versele's passing on the Feb 3rd 2010, it's been kept running, but not updated by a collegue of Rudy's. There's a wealth of freeware games that can be found on the site that are well worth checking out.
Steam Games:

For the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' order by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB (the Steam database) with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green and those in blue are on your wish list. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see the percentage off as 100%. It's worth checking this regularly to make sure you don't miss the best deals and freebies.
Indie Gala:
Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; the most recent additions include:
1) ... Vroom Racing (Drive a Formula 1 car upon 18 worldwide tracks : Reach 380 Km/h and beat the ghost !)
2) ... Project Restart (An anime visual novel, two versions English & Portuguese)
3) ... King of Dragon Pass (NEW ... A unique mix of RPG and strategy. Create your own epic saga of survival, mythology and diplomacy! Rule your clan, make strategic decisions that affect the game world, win battles and expand your influence in this unique mix of RPG, strategy and story-telling.)
4) ... Beefense ... (ReRUN ... Tower defense game.)
5) ... Lamp Head ... (NEW ... The protagonist of this game is a strange man who needs to breach out of the darkened and dangerous odd place at whatever cost..)
Check the freebie section for the latest additions; if you've not visited for a while, also check the Showcase section for older freebies. All or most new freebies should be on the first page of the Showcase pages. We have been given over 350 games since I started to check the freebie section in 2018. But around 60% of those are no longer available free. The following recent freebies have now been removed from the free library: Control Craft 2, Grab the Bottle, Super Toy cars, Cursed Sight, Pixel Puzzles 2, Spring Bonus, Little Kite, Last Dream, Unhack, Trainpunk Run, Pixel Puzzles 2: Paintings, Hamsterdam, Copperbell, Chainsaw Warrior, Leisure Suit Larry 2 Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places), Leisure Suit Larry 1 - In the Land of the Lounge Lizards , Figment, Pixel Puzzles 2: Space, Revolution Ace, Six Sides of the World, Byte Family, Alone on Mars, Garfield Kart, Nostradamus the Last Prophecy, Snowball, Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas , Die Young (Full version), Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner, and Contract with the Devil.

Any game you claim while it's being offered is DRM free and will remain in your Indie Gala library permanently (unless Indie Gala goes bust) and can be downloaded at any time, under the showcase or freebie section; 118 games are still available. Not all games that go into the showcase remain free and are removed after a short period; e.g. the recent adventure puzzler Figment that costs almost £15 on Steam; so, you should grab them as quickly as you can. To find your games go to your account and from the drop down menu select 'My Library'. When the page opens find the 'Showcase' button in the banner along the top of the page and, from the drop down menu select 'Showcase'. There are only 8 games per page, so, if like me you have added hundreds to your account/library. Each page from your free list can take 30 or more seconds to move to the next page so it can take a good twenty minutes to get to the last page depending on how many of the free games you've claimed.
CD Keys:
Another decent site that you should check out regularly is CD Key HERE. Be sure to check that keys from CD Keys are redeemable in whichever country you live in (it details where it can be redeemed) as prices and the ability to redeem keys in particular countries may differ. I've quoted prices from the UK pages of CD keys. I recently got an Origin key for Star Wars: Squadrons for 99% off, costing me £0.34; it usually retails for £34.99, I also got 32% off a pre order copy of Dying Light 2 a couple of weeks before it was released in February, saving around £20 off the release price.
Epic Games:
The latest Epic games include the excellent first person horror adventure Amnesia: Rebirth - you are Tasi Trianon, the female protagonist, waking up deep in the desert of Algeria. Days have passed. Where have you been? What did you do? Where are the others? Retrace your journey, pull together the fragments of your shattered past; it is your only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you.

We also get the Hack & Slash dungeon crawler Riverbond - a fun and frantic local couch co-op adventure game for 1 to 4 players set in a stunning voxel world. Embark on a heroic journey to complete missions, battle adorable enemies, and smash everything into tiny cubes!

From 4pm next Thursday 28th April at 4pm UK/11am Eastern we will be getting two comedy games; i.e. Just Die Already - an old people mayhem sandbox game created by the designers of Goat Simulator. You are old and angry and you've just been kicked out of your retirement home. How will you survive in a world that wants you to Just Die Already? (remember David Carridine in Deathrace 2000, it's nothing like that) as well as the single player Paradigm - a surreal adventure game set in the strange and post apocalyptic Eastern European country of Krusz. Play as the handsome mutant, Paradigm, whose past comes back to haunt him in the form of a genetically engineered sloth that vomits candy.
Indie Bundles:
The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2010 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites (though the latter isn't as good as it used to be, with most of the bundles containing cheap stocking fillers and a lot of 'adult only 'hentai like ' games). The Humble site is, in my opinion, the best; though a more recent addition that is worth checking out called Fanatical games, that used to be called Bundle Stars, looks to be a serious contender for that title as they have some very good bundles. Presently Fanatical hosts nine game bundles as well as other software and book bundles
Mystery Egg Bundle
Hany Games Anniversary Bundle
Platinum Collection: Build your own April Bundle
Build your own Easter Bundle
Guardian Bundle 7
Fanatical Favourites -Build your Own Bundle
Rogue Souls Bundle
Build your own Slayer Bundle 5
Build your own Hidden Gems Bundle 2
Build your own Puzzle Bundle

The monthly cost is a meagre $12/£8.99 with other benefits such as access to a lot of indie titles for free while subscribed and a percentage off other purchases from the Humble store. This discount increases the longer you stay subscribed up to a year with 20% off all none bundle purchases. The Groupee's group also do game bundles HERE, but they don't have any available at the moment (just a book bundle).
Free Game Project:
I've restarted a project I originally started back in 2008 that used to be called Good Games to Grab, where I posted free games over in the forums on a daily basis; however, I won't be posting them daily this time, only as and when I have time and the inclination. You can find the new forum section entitled 'Free Game Project' HERE. So far, I've posted eight excellent PC games, plus one android game as well as suggested or linked to others similar to the ones posted. I'll be adding more as and when I have the time or the mood takes me over the coming months.

Amazon Prime Gaming:
If you have Amazon Prime you also get access to a new set of free games every month. The April freebies include the fantastic The Elder Scrolls Oblivion from GOG (You can find loads of mods, addons and other related files over on Nexus mods HERE. ModDB also have many files available for the game (over thirty thousand) HERE (files), HERE (add-ons) and HERE (mods).).

From Origin you get the 3D version of Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neigbourville (I'm really pleased to see this one; I was intending to buy it in the next Steam sale as it's been on my wish list since it's release) . Plus there are several other games from Plug in Digital and Lucas Arts free this month.

On top of those full game freebies there's also a shed load of add-ons and other DLC content for various Free to Play and commercial titles such as GTA V, Overwatch, League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Two Point Hospital, The Crew 2, Fall Guys, Blade & Soul, FIFA 22, Madden NFL 22 (the full game was free on Origin last month via Amazon Gaming, now you get some extra stuff to add to the game). Also extra's for Battlefield 2042, Splitgate, Gildwars 2, Black Desert Mobile, Warframe, Doom Eternal and over 20 other titles.

Stay safe everyone.

The story line of this game seems like it belongs on either a Lifetime or Hallmark Movie Channel show or movie. It's much different than the story lines I've seen on many hidden object games. But was refreshing to see a change from the normal. I've not been on Steam lately but plan on logging back in soon to play games.

I have this game as part of my saved games so I have played this game a lot. It's decent enough game play, a bit on the frilly side as I'm a minimalist but it goes with the story line. I don't have any thoughts on the music, I generally play my games with the sound off. The objects hidden and the make over of her rooms and the date nights were standard. It's not offering anything other than different objects, different reasons for finding things and at least the scenery changes offering different set ups to make over for the dates. It's not a game you necessarily play over and over. It's a great boring afternoon game, something that doesn't take a lot of thinking or strategizing, it's just a nice Sunday afternoon stroll through gardens kind of game.

Maybe it wasn't this specific game, but I do remember a 'matchmaker' themed HOG being given away here few a years ago. Some of the 'date night' screenshots do look awfully familiar, but I can't be sure … I guess I'll have to grab this one and see!

This is a delightful, quality game. I've played it before but I am going to download it again anyway, it was fun to play! That included review is WAY too overcritical, from one of those jaded players who are never satisfied with anything. It is miles beyond what is normally available for free, and worth playing for fans of the genre. The plot is sweet, the game play is pleasant, the images are beautiful, it even has several options to customize your play, which are sadly lacking in many of the primitive games that are common
free offerings. It's just a relaxing afternoon's diversion. Nothing wrong with that at all, and quite valuable as a free game! Snap it up while you can!
