Re: my comment at #51:

I had already done all of the things you suggest... I didn't miss the 'create shortcut' step... and it DID place the shortcut on my desktop -- the 'Master Of Defense' shortcut -- which apparently only starts the 'Download Full Version' process, and kicks off the DEP alert. I HAD already navigated to the GAME folder and created the 'Main.exe' shortcut myself, which is how I got the game to start (I did write that I had no problem getting the game to start) but still no registration box came up, no matter how many times I tried. I also scoured ALL of the files in the GAME folder for something I may have overlooked in the process. I tried scouring the developers site, which was equally as fruitless, as was writing to them.

Just because only myself and one other have bothered to post a comment about the registration problem, doesn't mean that others haven't had the same problem, because I KNOW from experience, that not everyone who meets with installation or registration problems, can even be bothered to post a comment about it, mainly because of the unhelpful "it must be you because everyone else is fine" response, which is really quite antagonistic.

...........................Moderator comment...................................

You need to chill out mate. I wasn't trying to be antagonistic, I was simply stating what I see as common sense when looking at the number of downloads and then looking at the number of users with the problem that you stated. All the games given away via the game giveaway site have been throughly checked to make sure they work and are also checked for viri.

If a game doesn't work for a few users yet there has been several thousand downloads, I think it very likely that it is user error or a computer problem on the users side. Theres no way thousands of users wouldn't bother to post a comment if they were all having problems registering the game.

I've never had any problems installing any game giveaway since this project started back in December 2006 apart from one ( a breakout, the name of which I've forotten) that virtually everyone had problems with, and I've installed all but a few of them. Yet I notice from previous comments of yours that you've had other problems running games; doesn't that say anything about your own computer????

All that said you are quite right; not everyone bothers to post a comment. In fact generally only 0.1% of users comment when alls well, but when there has been a genuine problem (which is very rare) then the number of complaints and requests for advice skyrockets. I've been moderating this comments section for years so can speak from experience.

The facts speak for themselves; there were over 8000 downloads of this game and only two users posted that they had problems registering it; Statistically, I'd say that says a lot about there not being any real problems registering this game.

If you read my comments throughout the day, I put a lot of effort into trying to help as many users as possible, as well as spending hours writing up a review. I find your attitude rather surprising considering the friendly posts you've made previously and too be honest am rather disgusted especially after trying to help you. I can't believe you took offense just because I had the audacity to suggest/imply that it may be your own fault. Maybe I should follow in the footsteps of moderators in the main givaway site and not bother even replying to any queries (apart from BuBBy when he has the time). No I'd never do that because even though I do this voluntarily I actually care when users can't get their games to work. I can't always solve the problems, but I do try,as you should be able to see from many of the replies I make under the guise of ....... Moderator comment..... By the way, I am the only moderator who ever bothers to reply to users on the game giveawayoftheday comments section..

I have downloaded several tower games in the past but was disappointed in all of them until now. I really love the graphics although the music needs some change, maybe reflect the individual monsters sound effects besides the initial roar?
I couldn't get my balloon to move, but everything seemed to install just fine on vista 32. only missing help would have been an overview map,i lose out on tower prep just looking for the road and where it stops and starts.
only got through about half the game, but played much longer than i had allotted myself, guess it was kind of addicting!i think skills will improve as i increase familiarity with the towers, monsters and terrain.
thank you, i almost didn't download this one because of past tower game disappointments.

Great game. Needs more levels though, only 6 and the games over- too short (but so much FUN). Thanks GGOTD!!

.................Moderator comment........................

There's much more than six levels. There's six different areas with fifteen levels to each area, making a total of 90 levels.

Generally really fun, except it gets REALLY frustrating to have the stupid-tower-syndrome where you can't tell the towers what to attack, so you just hope the healing monsters get hit first, otherwise it doesn't matter how good your strategy is, the towers will keep hitting the monsters that you don't want it to, and it stops being fun to play because it's more about chance than strategy.

Otherwise, the graphics are actually pretty fun for this level of game. The sound is adequate though nothing special, and it does have some potential to be great, but I just get bored of trying to figure out what patter will magically get the healing units first.

Thanks Whiterabbit for this as TD games are my favorite genre outside of high-end console games like Battlefield 2 & 3 or Skyrim. As you mentioned Defense Grid: The Awakening is great, in my opinion the best TD game there is and I long for the day when that is topped.

This is a great one although most aren't demanding so quickly. (tons of towers needed just for level one.) I hope to create a simple TD game one day and wonder why there aren't more out there but I got some great suggestions from the commenters here.

Big thumbs up for this one and I hope the developers keep improving it and/or working o a sequel. I like this much better than the 2D ones I have been playing like Garden Defense and iBomber Defense.
Thanks again!

Thanks guys, this looks like a fun distraction that will stay on my machine for a while! Tower Defence is not my favourite genre but I like the look and feel of this.

No problems installing, registering, or playing on my XP Pro SP3 machine.

There is a speed slider in the main interface of the game, so if monsters are coming too fast or too slow, try changing that ;-)

Thumbs up from me! :)

Very nice game. Thanks! No problem installing or running on my XP SP3 machine.

I learned quickly that each round you have little chance to stop all the monsters on the first wave, since not only do you not know the terrain, but on some levels I wasn't even sure where the path was! Once you figure out the layout, set up towers to maximize field at maximum power (no use wasting half the power on a cliff or river.) I got through most of the first three or four levels by having one of each type, maximized at strategic locations. Once the gold is pouring in, you might as well spend it, because it does not carry over. However, the experience point upgrades do. I quickly pumped up speed, range and power.

My only complaint was that in level 4 or 5, I had 10 or more fully powered towers, and fire and the balloon, and was blasting through all the waves until #35. That one just ran right through my defenses. That dramatic increase in power of the last wave was unexpected and disappointing, since it wiped out my remaining 20 humans!

Fun game, and I'll probably give it another try. Thanks!

Downloaded, installation and registration process was very smooth. On starting the game there were 100 men in the city but at level 4 every one is dead ending in defeat.
My suggestion is to
1. Give a warning before a monster with lot of energy comes out
2. Add a way to increase the total number of villagers because the only remaining number of people is carried forward in to the next level.
3rd give a lump amount of money on killing a huge monster when i killed one i got only 50. The money given was also in sufficient.
This game is sure worth to downloading and trying

I had this game couple of laptops ago.
Installed fine on WinXP. I always downloaded from Mirror site so I am sorry to see it gone.
Sometimes when I downloaded game/software it was instant but the file size was only ~180K instead of ~10MB. To fix I deleted file and redownloaded it with success.
To minimize problems:
1. Close down any extra programs you have running,
2. Ctrl-C key (no extra spaces before or after) from the ReadMe file,
3. when Setup finishes untick the PlayNow box,
4. click on icon and game will ask for reg-key
5. Ctrl-V key in space provided.
If all went well you should have the Menu screen to be able to change Settings. It is nicely animated so maybe that is where the problem lies. Maybe the developer can provide an answer on how to disable that part.
I have an old Dell Latitude D610 laptop and it handles it OK. Sometimes newer isn't always better. Good luck and I hope this helps. Sorry it is so late.
Thanks again.

Try using the demo from the developers site. No one else out of the nearly 8000 downloads has reported a problem with the registraton code, which would indicate something at your end. Try typing it in manually.

Already had this game but love it. Running on XP SP 3.

My only complaint is it does revev up too fast. You really have to be quick. I love the monsters..wish you could zoom up to really see them. You have to destroy them so fast you don't get to enjoy the looks of them. I would love to just STOP the game so you could take a gander. And I would love to see a sequel with improved "everything", like a few other people have said.

Thanks to Voodoo Dimension and GGOTD for the game. And Thanks to That Wrascally Wabbit for his always awesome review.

This is my fav TD Game. Immortal Defense | - http://studioeres.com/immortal/buy?side I think I paid over 20.00 for it back in the day. But I got 16 other games with it plus When his next game(Saturated Dreamers) is released I get it also. ( I am a beta tester for it.)

Right now it's "The full game is currently on a experimental "name your price" model, with a minimum price of $1.75 to cover bandwidth and other fees. The game was $22.95 on release."

Immortal Defense is really different. I think this person describes it well..."Immortal Defense is only a game, but it touches many quite serious subjects - like protecting the family, barrier between gratitude and worship, limits of responsibility, loneliness, memory and love. Actually the game seems like a stylish metaphor of human life, gameplay aside." - Thomas Grochowiak, independent game developer, designer at Codeminion

This has given me nothing but frustration today!! I can't even seem to figure out how to register it! Each time I tried to start the game via the shortcut it placed on my desktop, it didn't even start the game, it activated a web link to download the full version and it kicked off my DEP, as I'd read about in Whiterabbit's post. I had no problem starting the game itself, but I couldn't figure how to register it with the code from the read-me file to switch it from demo to full.

So, I navigated to the game folder, and used the IE shortcut to open the GetFullSoftware web page that the .exe is trying to open.

But when I try to download the 'full version' I can't, because it wants all sorts of personal info, plus my payment option details, and I have no intention of giving my visa card details to download it!

This has to be one of the worst experiences I've had to date from this game site!

I'm up in the middle of the night, still unable to register this game! I probably won't be able to do it before the time runs out anyway.

What a horrible 'gamegiveaway' this has been today!

......................Moderator comment......................

The executable that you should be using is the one labelled Main. When you fiirst installed the game it asks if you want to place a shortcut on the desktop. If you missed this it's possible that you are missing the actual executable that is used to play this game. Go to the installed folder and create a shortcut from the file labelled MAIN, when you click on this it will bring up a registration window where you can copy the registration code provided in the read me. There has been nearly 8000 downloads and only yourself and one other user has complained of not being able to register this game.

My computer's a tad slow for this game (as for most other 3D games), so no feedback on gameplay. But I can share a few findings.

This game is written in Blitz3D, which compiles game code into badly written native code. Also, because developers tend not to check for common operation failures, you get the memory access violation error. Also note that the compiled code is copied somewhere on the heap, so it may trip Vista+'s DEP.

If you press F10, you can make a screenshot.

There are two interesting options in Settings.vdd. It's really a INI file. The item "DebugShow" shows FPS and maybe something else. The item "GamedevMode", from what I read, modifies the game so you get more gold or something. For each, set to "1" to enable.

If you'd like to modify the campaign, there are a bunch of .csv files in the Data folder. Because they're actually semicolon separated and in Cyrillic, to open them in Excel (2010) you create a new workbook, on the Data tab select Get External Data->From Text, open up the sheet you want to edit, select the Delimited radio button, change the File Origin to "1251: Cyrillic (Windows)", click Next, make sure Semicolon is the only box checked, and hit Finish. Export the file as CSV again after you're done.

As for activation trouble, make sure you launch the game as admin, because it has to write to a couple of files in the program's folder to set registered status. And once you're done registering, feel free to change the shortcuts to point to Main.exe. The only purpose of GetFullVersion.exe is to nag before you've entered the key and waste time afterwards.

The save helps to retry so you can do different tactics. Would be nice if you could zoom in or out. Also would be nice if you could increase people somehow. Overall graphics are nice. Changing sounds could help and mabe a small window for experience upgrades to the side instead of opening and closeing each time. It is a challenging game to advance in. If it was to easy I don't think it would be fun. Thanks for the game to try. Don't think I would have if it wasn't here. Hope to try more.

This is an enjoyable game! i love the graphics and how they look when they die they have the little ghosty floaty thing! I do not like the whole thing when you move your cursor it moves the whole screen. That is quite annoying. I also would like to see some sort of timer to invasion somewhere...so I know when the planning is up. I like to think about when and where to place the towers. This is a keeper for me, not fond of the music so I too turned it way down. It is worth the money though! Thank you, I had not played this before. It installed on my windows 7 64 just fine.

The default resolution for this is 1024x768. That could be a problem for anyone with a netbook that can't handle more than 1024x600. When I first ran it on my netbook, I got a message about not being able to set the graphics mode.

This is fairly easy to solve. In the game directory, make a backup copy of Settings.vdd (just in case) and then use a text editing program (notepad, wordpad, etc.) to open it. In it you will see:
XRes=1024
YRes=768

Change these to:
XRes=800
YRes=600

Save the edited file and then run the program.

Wish I could edit my entry above after having read others' comments and trying a bit more...

Changing graphics mode to 800x600 and trying to launch directly from the Main.exe (in program directory) also failed ... still saying it could not get a useful graphics mode.

I enjoyed this one. Just one thing to say: You just cant see when a tower is maxed out, i mean visually. So it is quite easy to forget a tower when youre right in the action and cant afford that expensive 9/10 upgrade at once.. other than that, it is the good old standard TD stuff. So yeah.. good game.

If you like this I highly recommend you try Defense Grid: The Awakening, Sanctum and Anomoly: Warzone Earth, three excellent takes on the Tower Defence game. Defense Grid is basically a tradotional TD game, Sanctum plays like a first person shooter and Anomoly: Warzone Earth is a reverse TD game. There are loads more great games in this genre such as the great Plants and Zombies. It would be a good idea to keep an eye on the Steam sales as all of these games can usually be purchased for up to 75% off.

The game makes good use of my 'ancient' 3D video card. Moving across the landscape with the cursors keys is smooth and the graphics are a joy to watch. The pace of the game is on the frantic side and would have been more satisfying if difficulty settings were made available. I would have liked to see a display setting that takes into account 'wide' monitors with a 16:9 ratio.

Probably the most lazy developers created a great game many years ago but not even single update or new version after all! Thsi game has been released 5-6 years ago as I remember and so far no new version nor update.
Survival mode needs some touch as bullets running after monsters and not able to catch them.

I had to download this from the developers website to get it to work on my Win 7 machine, but once I did, everything worked fine. It's a great game, which gets more challenging as it progresses. I'd love to see a Master of Defense 2 with updated graphics, preferably with more color. While I love the game, it's pretty depressing looking. More colorful graphics would make it as enjoyable to look at as it is to play. I'd love for it to have more levels too. I like the suggestions about adding some new twists to the game, and fixing it so that we don't have any wasted space. Being able to put the towers closer together would help with that. I'd like to receive a little more money from destroying the monsters. The later levels really throw long lines of monsters at you, coupled with some very tough super-monsters, and the extra money would definitely help with building and upgrading the towers. I hope they do decide to bring out a new and improved game. It would be a buy from me. :)

At first glance, Master of Defense looks great and is a very welcome giveaway. Tower defense is one of my favourite game genres, and this is actually the desktop-based TD game I've ever played.

I've had time to play just a couple of quick early rounds of Master of Defence. On first impressions it offers an immersive experience and an interesting challenge. I must admit I haven't figured out how to survive the early rounds, but rather than assuming it's a problem with the game design, I'll assume that there is a solution but I haven't cracked it yet! So that's something to look forward to. I'm sure I'll get a lot of fun out of this download. Many thanks to GGOTD and Voodoo Dimention (sic!) for this great giveaway.

PS For TD fans who don't already know, there's some fantastic free TD games on Kongregate and Armor Games; I especially recommend the Gemcraft series and Kingdom Rush.

As a person who played different partially commercial and free TD games including GemCraft, I should say that this one was actually too easy. First of all, I really missed the "Summon Wave now" option. Second, when you set up fire traps, universal towers and cold towers with high magic levels, you become theoretically immortal, so you can save money to get new people in the next levels. With this strategy, the average time to finish the entire game would be about two hours which is too short even for an amateur made free TD game.

Graphics are funny, especially the green sorcerers shaking their arms to heal monsters and the skeletons dragging their arms behind them. Sound effects and music aren't chosen well, I even felt much better when I played the game without them.

Technically, installation and activation worked without problems. I never experienced hangs, freezes or crashes on my machine (Win7 64 Bit) which is a positive point from my side.

Like Tentacles, #12, said, this games pace is too fast and doesn't allow you to keep up, and the carry over of the inhabitants when you start a new level makes the game even worse. The monsters start coming out when you are checking the terrain and you end up not being able to defend. Another thing, the monsters are far too powerful at the beginning and you end up losing all of your people before you get halfway through the second level. It shouldn't take six towers that are fully upgraded to kill a monster on the second level.

This is very nice and entertaining tower defense game. I like it very much.

Only difference from install instructions is that game is installed in Program files directory, not in Games directory.

Didn't had any problems with installation and running game (WinXP Pro SP3).

Thanks. I think this game is worth its price. Recommended.

Installs and ran fine on the old XP. My main comp out on the road today or I could comment on the Vista64 compatibility also.

This is a ton of fun and I would recommend this to anybody. The sounds could have been a bit better, but I tend to be one of those who believes that all games should let the users edit their sound schemes.

The only main suggestion I could think of this early is Zoom feature linked to scroll wheel. But I could understand how this would require mych higher res textures, which might drive it past it's profit margin.

Oh I should mention that I have 8GB ram on Win 7 x64 so if one has the standard 4GB there may not be need for DEP unless doesn't run.
I didn't get an actual system message stating need for DEP but error code made me try that ok method. Also Win 7 x32 may work as is.
And when entering Reg code in Read me manually I used the dash (-) in addition to all CAPS. Wish GOTD had an edit function of at least 15 minutes or so. g/l

If probs w/ WIn 7 x64 do DEP exception per Wr instructions in #1.
The reg key in Read Me must be entered manually in CAPS. Then worked for me. YRMVary. Other method of compat like vista or XP no go.
One after game annoyance seems to be the changing sizes of newly opened windows. I might try reboot or roll back point. Older games can have this happen. If continues guess either uninstall or try safe mode.
Game itself has some icons at top to save-load. Nice since I have ESC binded to exit program. Game itslf looks half way decent. Had played ones like it before & they do get harder to point of quiting.
For this genre & free 9/10. For difficulty & resizing 6.5
Thanks GOTD even for a game with issues on newer systems.

It is hard to respect a game that has so many spelling and grammatical errors. I found it boring but this isn't my usual genre of game either. Sorry, uninstalling.

Game downloaded, installed, registered and played fine for me using Win 7 Home. I agree I wouldn't pay $20 for this and it doesn't come close to Defense Grid and Sanctum. However, I love Tower Defense games and this is a bit of fun with all the different monsters, tower levels, etc. Thank you and the developer for giving us a chance to try it out!

I downloaded this game back in 2007 when it was first given away. Really love it and still have it.

Update...I was able to get it started by going directly into the game folder and clicking on the Main.exe but the shortcuts created by the software do not work for me on my machine. Also, the process for registering the demo version does not accept the registration code.

I have installed both the version here and then the version at the dev site with the same results. It simply does not open. I get a very brief glimpse of an hourglass and then nothing. Tried all compatibility modes and running as admin, still no go. Too bad...I like TD games.
