The Game:
Aid the young wolf as he embarks on an adventure to find his family that has gone missing all of a sudden. Choose the game mode of your preference from the two options available.

It was a cool and calm night like any other, Wolf had just put his children to sleep and thought he’d doze off for a while himself. Unfortunately, when he woke up his whole house was a wreck and his family was nowhere to be found. Join the young Wolf as he sets out to find who stole his loved ones and then bring them to justice by law… or by claw.

Upon getting into the game for the first time you’ll be shown a few dialogue scenes that’ll give you a brief bit of detail regarding the backstory of the game. After these the actual game play will begin which starts off with a few tutorial levels that are designed for the purpose of easing new players into the game. The tutorial levels teach players the basics by giving helpful information through dialogue boxes so players who are new to the game can understand how things work.
In terms of game play, although it does things similar to most modern day mahjong games, what’s incredible about Mahjong: Wolf Stories is the incredible level design. Despite the massive amount of levels that you’ll play through, each one will feel distinct and they just keep getting more and more fun as the game progresses. It’s pretty amazing how the excellent level design makes sure that the game pretty much never gets repetitive.
There aren’t any unique power-ups to speak of but to keep things interesting Mahjong: Wolf Stories does have a lot of collectibles and such that you can collect as you make your way through the game. They don’t have any major impact on the actual game play but they still deliver a pretty satisfying feeling of achievement if you manage to get them all. There are also two different game modes; one is catered towards the casual audience looking for laid back game play and the other is targeted at the hardcore audience looking for fast-paced game play.

As for the visuals, Mahjong: Wolf Stories is nothing short of gorgeous. The graphics have a ton of medieval elements which is great as it sets this release apart from all the mahjong games that utilize the same common eastern art style. The tiles look really sharp, the artwork is top notch and the background music is absolutely perfect and will easily get anyone in the mood for some great mahjong fun.

This is a bright, colourful and attractively designed game which should appeal to a number of age groups. The Mahjong puzzles are, as usual, the single-player version rather than the traditional four-player game, but then most people who play it on their computer would be playing alone anyway, not in groups. The tiles are clear and easy to read, and (at the beginning at least) matching them and winning the round is relatively easy. I only had time for about half a dozen rounds, so this may well change further along the road!

I would probably mute the music when playing later on, and listen to my preferred background of Radio 4, but then that's just me. The given soundtrack is not impossibly annoying, which is an improvement on many others.

I did enjoy my trial run of this game, and I'll go back again and see if I can get a bit further and help that poor wolf find his missing family. It's a pleasant and even restful way of passing a tea break in between bouts of the serious stuff! Thanks again to MPC, to GGAOTD and to the hard-working Whiterabbit who helps us all decide which games are for us, and which are better left to others. This one will do fine for me, so far! :-D

Hi BroBryce64, Thank you for your thoughts, however what you posted is not allowed on the site. I'm sure you were just trying to be helpful.

The reason:
MyPlayCity (MPC) and other free game sites rely on the advertising revenue earned from the adverts and browser redirection to pay the developers of most of the games they giveaway; ( MPC have purchased the rights to a lot of the older games). They have come to an agreement with those developers that every time one of their games is downloaded they will give a percentage of the revenue earned through the adverts shown at the beginning of these games and whenever you shut the game down via the browser redirection.
If everyone followed the advice you gave, MyPlayCity and other free game sites would not be able to pay the developers and would lose the right to allow the games to be downloaded for free and would inevitably have to close down, thus stopping the availability of free games. As it is MyPlayCity and and the other sites that give away these games are aware that some community members know how to circumvent the low level adware and are always looking for more devious ways to stop such practices.
Surely the ads are a small price to pay for getting a game for free. They are not malicious adverts, just a way for the middle man and the developer to continue to earn some money from their hard work but also to ensure that we the consumer can get them for free. Many of these games are not the product of a few hours work. They may involve thousands of hours of work by several developers and cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars to create (in some cases). You'll find virtually every game given away via MyPlayCity and other similar sites are actually commercial games and not freeware. Also, by doing what you suggested you are in effect breaking the law, because during the installation process you agree to the EULA, which does mention the adware and browser redirection and you sign to say you accept those as part of the deal for getting the game for free.

Review does not mention that you cannot turn OFF the "hints" which appear every 15 seconds. Takes the challenge out of it. Phooey on that.

frank,

It does spoil the challenge somewhat. I prefer not to have the help. Game deleted as I have loads of these one person mahjong games. Personally I prefer the four player game. These usually give me a headache if i look at the tiles too long.
