Game is fun and I have never had an issue with any of the games from Playrix before, but..... I have played this one multiple times and at some point (and it is never the same point in the game) it will no longer load so I have to start a new user name to play again and have to start from the beginning again. Have tried playing this since it was released almost 3 weeks ago and have had to start a new user / player for the game a total of 8 times now. Getting really frustrating to have to keep starting with a new user/player so many times. Going to just uninstall it.

Thank you for the game but I am also having a problem proceeding. I got to the 5th padlock and it would not continue. I am in the process of repeat the game under a new name and will post if that also stops me at that place. otherwise, it's a nice little game.

I downloaded the game and only got part way through the game and it prevented me from going any farther. It appears the rest of the game is locked. Did you offer the trial version and not the full version, because it appears that way when I played the game. I have never had this type of problem before in the games that you offered.

I am up to the part where I have to place the flowers and they don't seem to fit anywhere. Any ideas or is there a site I can go to perhaps?

Very cool! I have only played a few levels but I really enjoy it. The story line is a bit hokey but the music is ok and hasn't cheeped into my head...yet. I am happy to see Mahjong game. Thanks!

Just tried my third install this time round and still the same result, it has a padlock on the place I want to continue from, there are heaps of better games to play and can't be bothered trying to sort this so deleting all versions of it from this time giveaway and previous ones..

Like the comment no 11 my computer kept freezing halfway through the game in the previous install and I had to start a new profile each time to get it to play so of course never got to the end. Have put this onto a USB stick to try again, cross fingers!!

I had the exact same problem. I couldn't get past that spot. I'll download this and try it again as I was enjoying the game and was very disappointed with the bug.

Rafal, try this site: http://www.mahjongready.com/Games/show/Real_Mahjong_1.htm, where you'll find a plethora of 'real mahjongg' games, many of which are playable online with no downloads needed.
You can also try this site:
http://mahjongtime.com/mahjong.html if you want to learn more about the real game. Technically not a board game because there is no board: just a flat surface, tiles, and possibly money or 'gambling chips!'
I hope that information is of use to you and to none or more of my other fellow GGOTD users.

Hi Stephen,
I had downloaded this game last time and was enjoying playing it for a while. However, when I went back to it later, I had a problem - the game seemed to have disappeared (if I remember correctly). Today I tried three times to download it - each time when it started up the screen was blank (black) even though there was sound. I found I could minimize the screen and when I brought it back up, the initial screen came up, but the cursor was frozen. Also, it already had my name, which means that the computer located the game from the previous download even though I have tried to delete all evidence of it. If my husband were still alive, he could probably figure it out, but I have no idea how to fix it. So I am disappointed that I can't get this game to work.

After installing, the player's name defaulted to the one used in a previous Plarix game. When I tried to play the game, it froze with the opening screen. Checked Direct X, tried re-install, etc. When I changed the default name that the game had automatically entered for me, the game then worked. So if this game freezes on the opening screen, try changing the name.

I downloaded this last time, and got about 15 steps in on the map. Then the map froze, as someone else with win 7 64 mentioned. Didn't matter if I was playing under admin or other user acct. Just couldn't get it restarted. The problem listed it as "game paused". Don't know why. I started a new game with a new player, but if this happens again, I will delete- it is rather an annoying game. Do you think this download, from a different source, would have the same freeze problem?

Great share. Thanks a lot - again again. I couldn't be happier, 'cause I lost my version, and my Grandson and I have a great time gaming hidden object games. Greets from Denmark. Have a nice start at this week :)

I'm one of the people who liked this game but it has a fatal flaw for some users. I have tried repeatedly to play past the first few chapters but the game will not let me move onto chapter 4 (over the bridge - your 8th jpg) on the progression screen. I also get a hardware acceleration popup warning. Turning off hardware acceleration makes no difference. I can not move on in the game.
For a month after installing this game the last time it was given away I would use the 'free play' option just to waste time if I was waiting on a computer process in the background. Yes, the play is simplistic but much more satisfying than Mahjong games that serve up non-winnable combinations with only one shuffle available.
My opinion of the game is that it is perfect for families with children to introduce them to mahjong and HOGs. Beautiful graphics and it interested me.

When running it in Windows 10 Build 10074, the game minimizes and the Windows menu opens. I tried running it with admin mode and XP compatibility but the same thing keeps happening.

This isn't the best Mahjong variant I've played, but it isn't the worst either. It's bright and colourful, and it does have those little bits of other games interleaved with the main game, which is good.
In a way it's the actual tile-matching part that becomes annoying after a while. There isn't much variety to that, so it's not a game I'd play for hours at a stretch. But then - that's a good thing, after all, because when I get tired of that I go back to work!
The music is okay, and the hints do their job when required. So today's game is not a star, but a good all-rounder, and a reasonable way of spending your tea break.
Thanks as ever to GGAOTD, Playrix, and of course the star of this particular show - Whiterabbit!

Well, in spite of the negative comments, I am going to download this and give it a try. I love these pseudo-Majhong games, I love Hidden Object games, and I trust Playrix and White Rabbit. besides, unlike the many games I paid for after a one hour trial, and then found out I didn't like, I can always uninstall without feeling like I have wasted money. By the way - I am absolutely hooked on Star Defender 2 that was given away on April 25th. I installed it for my grandkids but I have made it to stage 5 - Yeah me. Thanks again, White Rabbit!

I rarely comment as a rule so feel compelled to thank you guys for providing these games and also to you White Rabbit, for your excellent reviews. And everyone who thumbs up/down so I have a better idea of whether or not to download, although when I do see a game I had before my external hd died tragically, I ignore everything and just get it.
Hugs!

One quick note about the first hidden object segment. You match the saw to a sawfish, not a swordfish. They're rather different critters, and a sawfish makes more sense as a match.
Like many of the commenters the last time around, a) I found the mahjong part tedious in the extreme, and b) noticed that the game reuses art from the Surprising Adventures of Munchhausen. Did anyone ever establish whether or not there's a connection between the publishers of the two games?
In addition to the mahjong sections being tedious, my Win 7 computer displayed a rather annoying tendency to randomly freeze on the map screen.

I love Hidden Objects games, as well as Mahjong (although not as much), but I played this game for about 10 minutes, and un-installed it. I had forgotten that I downloaded it the last time that it was offered and hated it. I can't remember if I ever completed it. Probably not since it's one of the most irritating games that I have ever played. You go through several games of Mahjong (with the same old tiles) just to find a silly cannonball, and then do the same for 2 more items. Also, the round picture in the middle that has items that have to be matched with items on the right. Even on casual mode, I had absolutely no patience for this totally irritating game. Most Hidden Object games that I got on this site, I either like or love, but I think I have finally lost interest in Mahjong.

Mahjong Secrets
In Brief
A simple solitaire mahjong game with hidden Object elements and a story. Excellent graphics overal, tohugh the mahjong tiles are quite simplistic, but easily distinguished compared to some solitaire mahjong games I have.
Installation:
Mahjong Secrets downloads to an 131 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked (because the previous giveaway system was easily cracked). This file may case some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.
The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. (The owners know that allowing such things would compromise their buisness, so they make sure all software given away via the giveaway and gamegiveaway sites are throughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files.
Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added a couple of years ago. It's been found that turning off your security temporarily or, especially if you don't feel comfortable turning off your security, configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file. That usually sorts the problem out.
To register and install the game click on the orange colored icon. The installed game is 161 MB in size. and installs to the following path by default:
C:\Program files x86\Playrix Games\Mahjong Secrets\
The path can be changed to suit wherever you prefer to install your games. I install all my games onto separate hard drives. Those with large memory requirements I place on a solid state drive (J Drive) and most arcade games go on my spanned F drive (two drives making up 4TB). Once the game is installed you can delete the giveaway setup files. is a shortcut installed to the desktop and the Start menu. There's also an uninstaller in the Start menu, but, if you have Win 8 it is easier to use the uninstall tool via the control panel, or go directly to the game sinstalled folder and use the uninstaller. There's also a shortcut pointing to Playrix's web site, which can be deleted with no affect on the game.
The game works on both Win 7 and 8.1. I don't have a Vista or XP installed any more, so can't comment on whether the game will run on those platforms.
Introduction:
Mahjong Secrets was given away once previously last year (November), where it received a positive 80% out of 344 votes. You can see the comments made HERE
Reference accessed HERE 9th Nov 2014
If you miss todays giveaway, or have probelms installing or getting it to work, you could try the free versions available from Gametop and MyPlayCity. Do be aware that toolbars may be installed or browsers hijacked or home pages changed if you don't uncheck tick boxes during installation, and that your browser will be opened to the respective sites when you close the game down.
The Game:
Mahjong Secrets is an interesting fusion of Hidden Object, Adventure and Mahjong.
The basic game play in Mahjong Secrets is that you complete board after board of Mahjong where you are rewarded with an inventory item after finishing each board. You can use that item to interact with things in the scene to complete the tasks similar to those in HOPA games (Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure), then you move on to the next scene. At the start of each new scene, there will be a type of Hidden Object puzzle. They are not really Hidden Object scenes more like match the items given to the items in the scene, for example, in the first scene you match a squirrel with nuts and a hand skyth with hay a rifle with a pheasant (that's hanging upside down), frog spawn with tadpoles, a horse with a sea horse, a diamond with a pearl and a hand saw with a sword fish. There's no timer whjen searching for these matches and there appears to be no consequences for clicking any where you wish.
The Hidden Object scenes have nice graphics, however, they are quite frustrating. Sometimes it is really hard to find objects that are relevant and sometimes they are not very obvious. The Hint button reloads at an extremely slow rate so it doesn't give you much help.
The Mahjong boards are as entertaining as Mahjong can be and they can be skipped after the Skip button fully loads (took sometime though). Hardcore Mahjong fans might find this game a disappointment because the Mahjong boards are not very challenging as well as not very fancy to play. They are standard boards with Shuffle and Undo button and it is impossible to get stuck since every time you get stuck; you can shuffle the board instantly. In some cases, especially towards the end of the table you may find you are shuffling virtually every other move and in some cases two or three shuffles in sucession beofre you are able to match any tiles.
There are two playing modes casual and expert. The former mode has active zones highlighted with sparkles and the skip and hint buttons recharge faster, whereas the latter mode has no active zones indicated and the skip and hint buttons take longer to recharge.
On the other hand, the visuals in Mahjong Secrets are very appealing. All scenes are brightly lit and are very colorful; characters are nice-looking as well. The music is very charming and is not annoying. There is also a story to follow and although it might not be the most original one; it is interesting to follow.

Music:
If you don't like the in game music, you should be able to exchange the music files which are located via the path below:
C:\Program files x86\Playrix Games\Mahjong Secrets\sounds
If you decide you'd like to change some of the music I'd consider keeping a copy of all of the original ogg files at least until you've tested and made sure the game still runs properly. Make sure that you rename all exchanged music files with the ones you are replacing, and also make sure you convert each file to the ogg format as well. :)

System Requirements:
OS: Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7/8
CPU: At least 1.6 GHz (single core)
sysRAM: 1024 MB (1GB)
Direct X: 9.0 or higher
Hard Drive: 165 MB
Conclusion:
The game is quite frustrating and boring at times. However, its package is very attractive and the idea behind this game is good; it just needs a little work here and there. An ideal game for all the family.
Overall I give this a thumbs up, especially if you love Mahjong solitaire. There's no innovation apart from mixing adventure, HOG and Mahjong together , but the game is well constructed and also gives you two modes casual and expert .

Problems:
If you have any problems installing or getting Katy & Bob: Way Back Home to work please go HERE for help. I've posted all of the common problems and solutions in a FAQ thread, which you can find in the sticky section of the forums by following the above link.
If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums, in the game discussion section because I cannot moderate 24hrs a day over the weekend. I've created a thread HERE for that purpose. If you've installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn't guaranteed). Sometimes you can still register the game after the giveaway has ended so long as you managed to start the download before the giveaway ends. I've tested this and the grace period lasts for up to 1 hour.
It’s always worth checking out the free games sites because sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them. MyPlayCity (MPC) has the most with over 1000 games to choose from. Other sites include Gametop and FreeGamePick. Katy & Bob: Way Back Home is available from from MyPlayCity. (See link in the introduction section above). I've not checked the other free game sites (partly becasue i'm way behind in posting this review today
If you do download any games from MyPlayCity, Gametop or the other free game sites 'do' watch out for toolbars etc. Make sure you un-check the check-boxes during installation, and, in the case of MyPlayCity, every time you boot the game up, (this may have changed now as these free game sites tend to change the format frequently. .. I've posted links to all of the common free game sites below in the games, games games section. :)http://steamcommunity.com/app/263200
For now I won't be recommending you download games from Jenkat Games. They have changed the way you get games from their site. Diane has posted information about this over in the game discussion forums. If I have time or remember, I'll link to it.
Games, Games, and yet more Games plus Download, Installation & Game play Problems:
