Update on my previous comment. I copied the game folder from my XP desktop to my Win10 Home 64 laptop and tried to run the game.exe file, but got the same problem as others - blank screen with sound. I was able to alt-tab out and try a few different compatibility settings, one of which led to being unable to get out of the blank screen like some others and having to restart. It may be a problem with the dll files in the game folder and my Win10, because trying to register or unregister them just results in error messages, and I've spent enough time already trying to run this game without researching error messages that I'm probably not savvy enough to fix anyway...

Installed and ran without a problem on my XP desktop. However, my Win10 Home 64 laptop seems to have done a Windows Update overnight that has broken the activation process. I keep getting "Failed to connect. Please try again later." But the activation process through XP at the same time still works. Windows Defender is not blocking it, and after some research I found this problem hasn't been reported in the forums since 2016. I reset my IE settings to enable TLS 1.0 and SSL 3.0 as suggested back then, and these are exactly the same settings as my XP, but still no good. Has anyone got any other ideas?
BTW, for those interested in the Android version, it's been renamed Petal Pop Adventures.

Same problem. Will not open. Installed twice, ran as admin, tries win 7 compatibility, closed antivirus & installed again, etc. Win 10 64. I click on shortcut, opens to dos screen (command line) & then closes. I guess nobody has a fix?

Glenrd, two suggestions that are in other comments - try changing the install location to other than the Program Files directory, and/or change the default shortcut to run the game.exe file (and/or perhaps change the compatibility settings for that file, as it's the one that actually runs the game itself.)

Min, Thanks. Tried these suggestions, +run as admin, playing with the dpi, installed with antivirus turned off, compatibility from win 7 to xp, etc- all the usual. Still the same. Looks like a fun game, but will uninstall.

Min, Just looked at my Mcafee. Keeps telling me it is blocking a suspicious incoming network connection. Same 2 IPs. Maybe that is the culprit.

Nice game, quick and easy installation.

Installed on Win 10 (1903) 64. In a folder that is separate from the Windows system folders (not the default Program Files). This avoids any problems that might be caused by 'Controlled Folder Access' (part of the Ransomware protection in Windows Defender).
I had no problems running the game.

UPDATE: I noticed that when the game runs it creates a file in the game folder called console.log, so if it is installed in the Program Files folder, then 'Controlled Folder Access' could be blocking that. Compatibility mode might allow it to run too.
For these old games, I always recommend that you change the install folder to a folder that is not one of the Windows folders (Program Files, Documents, etc).

Well, this game did look very interesting - quite different! - but those negative comments almost convinced me not to try it. However, I decided to give it a chance. Download was speedy, installation too, and the game was ready to start in just a couple of minutes. So, deep breath . . . and off it went. No problems at all, straight into a game that is pretty, playable and looks like staying with me for a while.
I did memorise the advice given about ALT -F4 before the download, just in case, but I didn't need that. I'm on a laptop, Win 10, so it could be that older systems had problems, I don't know. But it works for me, and it's worth the try I think.
Many thanks to all concerned for a game which is not all about killing everything in sight (or in the dark!). A refreshing change for today!

I had the same issue, black screen.
I hit esc, fn F4, and ctrl alt del.
I don't know which one worked but it finally cleared and allowed me to play.

Same as the previous comments: doesn't lock up the PC though.

Game installed fine on W10 Home (64-bit), but as soon as I start playing the keyboard language appears in my taskbar (bottom right). Even after closing the game it doesn't disappear. I have to reboot to get rid of it. Never had something like this before. Nice game though :-) At first I thought it appeared after a W10 update (with a bug), but I just found out it was because of the game...

Fred,
Don't know if it helps, but it will run in a win10 Home 64-bit V/Box VM. If using the desktop shortcut it runs MagicPetals.exe, which opens a plain white window that seems to stall for a whole, then reports that the web page won't open, then proceeds. Running game.exe got rid of that, and in both cases the VM display briefly resized to a smaller window, then popped back to the normal 1024 x 768 size & the game seemed to run OK. That resize happened every time I ran the game.. Sysinternals Process Explorer shows it using OpenGL, DX9, Direct3D 11, Direct3D 10 to Direct3D 9 Translation. There is a configuration xml file that might give some display options -- C:\Users\ [UserName]\ AppData\ Roaming\ Adore Games\ Magic Petals\ common\

Installed on Win 10, 64 bit. When opening the game, I have music and a blank screen. Wait and wait, but nothing except music. Rebooted, open again, same issue.
Any suggestions? If not, will uninstall.
Have a great day! Thanks again for the games.

Sunnie, 1st thing I would suggest is don't listen to the people above who have 1 problem, recieve no instant gratification, then quit. Right click on the shortcut and try the compatibility mode troubleshooter. Maybe if you set to it to run as if it was running on something older, Win 8 or 7, it may run fine. Or, if your running in a "User" account, in other words, a limited account, - which Microsoft has always recommended for greater protection - instead of an Administrator account, if you want the game bad enough, you might risk activating that setting in that troubleshooter. Since downloads here are well screened and have no viruses, there's really no risk. Or, it may be the Zip program that was used to unzip the initial dowload from GGOTD. Some recommend free program 7-Zip. As for me, I've never had problems with the unzip function built right into windows. If your using another program, you may want to try that. right click on the zipped folder and select Open With from the menu that pops up, and the n select Windows Explorer. It will say "Extract All Files in the blue area just above and to the left of the list of files.
As to the 2 comments that followed yours, I would agree. Nothing much there in either 1 of them.

Watcher13,
Thanks for the tips. I actually did do all these other things suggested and still have a blank screen with music, locks up computer. I did learn about Alt+F4! So at least I didn't have to reboot again. I have finally just uninstalled it. There are LOTS of games that are shared. Not getting one is okay with me, when it just doesn't seem to want to work quit right. I have found that games from Toomkey have more issues running than from other sites. Thanks again! :)
