The Game:

There are two modes of play Normal and Casual Mode. In both modes you get 51 levels to complete. Each level includes several missions, each of which have the potential to earn up to three stars. Collecting Stars unlocks new missions. When you've collected enough stars to reach your mission goal (via the star marker) A button called Next Mission appears on the map; enabling you to continue on your journey. You can see your progress via the mission map (see the fourth image from the bottom). The difference between normal and casual modes is that the normal mode is timed. also in casual mode it seems no matter how long you take, you seem to earn three stars; at least if felt that way as I always got three stars even though some of the missions took longer than expected.

In your first level there are five missions to complete for example you have to collect all the items from the list as quickly as you can. or you are shown a 5 x 6 grid of 30 images, which are then turned so that you can't see them then you have to pick from the images shown at the bottom of the grid. Get all three correct to move onto another selection. Repeat this several times to win your stars, basically a memory match puzzle. In the normal mode, the faster you complete a mission the more bonus seconds you can earn for your next mission, thereby giving you longer to complete the mission; if you run out of time you'll fail the mission and have to start again.

There are short tutorials for each tasks included in the game; for example, the 'Hidden Object' tutorial tells you that there are some items hidden really well; you can double tap the scene to zoom into the image and even move the camera to look behind the props and features. Another tutorial i.e. 'Unscramble the Picture' tutorial tells you to complete the picture by clicking on two pieces to swap their positions.

There are different HOG scenes, i.e. silhouettes and full images . You'll see a bar indicator next to each object which reduces the longer you take to find it. I've not figured out how many points you require to score all three stars for each mission. so far I'm quite surprised as my first attempt at completing a HOG scene with silhouettes took me quite some time, yet I still earned three stars for it (later, I realised that it was in casual mode). Same with the memory mission.

The number of hints is limited; you can earn up to two stars per level. more hints can be earned; to do this keep your eyes on the magic sphere, which will slowly grow a star. When it's complete, click on it to move it to the hint section. When you start a new level, any hints you earned are removed and you have to start again.

Conclusion:
Magic Gardens is a pretty basic HOG with no story included. Still, if you love HOG's this is worth downloading IMO.

Notes on Security

I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found 2 hit/s (VBA32 & Jiangmin) from 61 antimalware engines. These two are the most common seen regularily that often tag TooMky Games compared to most better known and more reliable antimalware engines; so, it's very likely to be a false positive.

The downloaded executable 'may' include some low level adware that opens your browser to TooMKY Games home page after the game has installed and may place some shortcuts onto your desktop; these can be safely deleted once the game has installed.

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to TooMKY Games home page following the games installation, it earns TooMKY Games games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. The giveaway version of TooMKY games version has had most of the adware disabled.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Other Free Games:
For other free games, please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE (non-Steam games) and HERE (Steam games) for the latest freebies; it's kept up to date frequently, whenever a free game becomes available, (thanks for keeping this up to date Delenn, very much appreciated).

Also, for the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB (the Steam database) with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green and those in blue are on your wish list. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see the percentage off as 100%. It's worth checking this regularly to make sure you don't miss the best deals and freebies. Delenn usually posts links to all free games within several hours of them going live, so check her links at the top of this comment as well.
Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; the most recent additions include:

1) ... The Last Enchantress: Revival, (choice-based fantasy game, contains adult themes and not suitable for children)

2) ... Copperbell (Returning freebie - hand drawn adventure game)

3) ... Avani: The Primal Land (Explore, gather, learn, craft and build in the world of Avani: The Primal Land. Fight, hunt and tame wild animals. Animals have their own genetics and no animal is like the other. The interactive taming process allows making a real bond with each tame. Avani offers a unique crafting system combined with a huge skill tree and an intuitive building system mixed with traditional survival game elements)

4) ... Cov Shooter (Try to survive as many waves as possible, upgrade your stats and weapons to do that)

5) ... WTC : Relentless Protagonist [Sxs}, (a short mostly KINETIC comedy/drama visual novel)

6) ... Out of Puberty: Chapter 1 (graphic novel, contains adult themes and not suitable for children)

7) ... Neon Invasion Earth, (space invaders)

8) ... WTC : Recruitment Day (a short mostly KINETIC comedy/drama visual novel)

9) ... Pixel Puzzles 2: Paintings ( jigsaw puzzle)

10) ... Welcome To... Chichester OVN 3 : The Mysterious Affair At The Violet Hotel (Interactive novel)

11) ... Hamsterdam (NEW - classic brawler mechanics meet rhythm and precision)

We have been given over 340 games since I started to check the freebie section several years ago. But around 60% of those are no longer available free. The following recent freebies have now been removed from the free library: Leisure Suit Larry 2 Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places), Leisure Suit Larry 1 - In the Land of the Lounge Lizards , Figment, Pixel Puzzles 2: Space, Revolution Ace, Six Sides of the World, Byte Family, Alone on Mars, Garfield Kart, Nostradamus the Last Prophecy, Snowball, Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas , Die Young (Full version), Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner, and Contract with the Devil. If you claimed those while they were still available you can access them via your Indie Gala account under the showcase section. Each page from your free list can take 30 or so seconds to move to the next page; so, if like me you've added most of the free games over the last several years, it can take almost half an hour to get to the last page. I have just over 340 games in my free section. All remaining freebies can be found in the showcase section (113 games are still available). Not all games that go into the showcase remain free and are removed after a short period (e.g. the recent adventure puzzler Figment that costs almost £15 on Steam); so, you should grab them as soon as you can. All titles are DRM free.

The latest Epic Game is Cris Tales - (an indie love letter to classic JRPGs with a new perspective).

If you missed last weeks freebie 'Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons' it is also included in the latest Humble Choice bundle as a Steam key - see below for the Humble Choice details). From Thursday the 1st March at 4pm UK/11am Eastern we will be getting
The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2011 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites (though the latter isn't as good as it used to be) where you'll sometimes find decent bundles with over 90% off the usual price of the games included in the bundles. The Humble site is in my opinion the best; though a more recent addition that is worth checking out called Fanatical games looks to be a serious contender for that title as they have some very good bundles. You can find Fanatical games (that used to be called Bundle Stars) HERE.

I've restarted a project I originally started back in 2008 that used to be called Good Games to Grab, where I posted free games over in the forums on a daily basis. I won't be posting them daily this time; only as and when I have time and the inclination. You can find the new forum section entitled 'Free Game Project' HERE. So far, I've posted eight excellent PC games, plus one android game as well as suggested or linked to others similar to the ones posted e.g.

Hidden & Dangerous Deluxe (a squad based solo shooter). Battlegroup 44 (a free-standing mod for Battlefield 2 that is a follow up to the original Battlefield 1942). Slam Tilt (an excellent pinball game with four tables). 3-D Ultra Pinball: Creep Night, (one of my all-time favourite pinball games from the mid 90's). Breakquest (one of my all-time top ten 2D breakouts). Messy Paths (an android game). Castlevania The Lecarde Chronicles (fan made free standing Castelvania game). Conflict Vietnam (third person squad-based shooter). Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2006 Trophy Season (a linear hunting game). Just added Open TTD (Transport Tycoon Deluxe). I'll be adding more over the coming months.

Black And White Apocalypse that was given away some weeks ago by the developer Hammergames is always free and can also be downloaded as a colour version. The community member Space pointed this out at the time. You can find both versions over on itch.io via the following links Black & White version, and Coloured version. :)

You can also find 'all nine' of the developers' games (for free) HERE. Some of them look like they are worth investigating. :)

The latest Humble Choice bundle went live at the beginning of February and includes eight games plus one DLC pack; i.e. Borderlands 3 with the director's cut DLC included, Black Book, Per Aspera, Just Die Already, Before We leave, Paradise Lost, Everhood and Calico. For original Humble Bundle subscribers, the cost is $12/£8.99 with other benefits such as access to a lot of indie titles for free while subscribed and a percentage off other purchases from the Humble store. This increases the longer you keep subscribed up to a year with 20% off all none bundle purchases. (1 month sub' gives 10% off, 3 months sub' gives 15% off and six months sub 'gives 17% off). The next Humble Choice bundle goes live Tuesday 1st March 22.

The latest Humble Bundles include a VR bundle called VR Discovery Bundle (Synth Riders, Blaston, Cook-Out, Panoptic, Trover Saves the Universe, Red Matter and Tower Tag + Soundtrack) that ends on the 11th March 22 and you'll find the first ever Epic Game bundle HERE that includes a good set of AAA and Indie arcade games (Saints Row: The Third Remastered, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, Mortal Shell, SCARF, The Last Campfire, What the Golf?, Shakedown: Hawaii) that ends on the 24th February 22.

If you are a removed game collector Gods Remastered a classic platformer from the early 90's is being removed from steam on the 27th March. You can swap between the original and the remastered version. You'll find the Steam page HERE

If you have Amazon Prime, the free February games are now available. You can get Stellaris on GOG for free. Visit Prime Gaming for details.

Stay safe everyone.

I'm not seeing any way to enter a player name, so it's not saving my progress. I tried getting the file directly from Toomky, and got the same results with that version. Anyone?

Reply   |   Comment by Delilah  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Delilah,

Hi Delilah,

There is no provision for adding your name. To progress to the next level on the map you have to complete five tasks, and earn at least 12 stars from those five tasks before you can progress to the next level (mission). It's easy in casual, but much harder to earn three stars for each task in normal mode. If you decide to leave the game for another time and have completed any of the five tasks, when you return, the ones you completed will still be completed (as evidenced by the stars you earned for that task).

I only played the game to the second level. If you've completed the first full level (mission) it should then unlock the second level (mission), which will show on the level map. You can see that I unlocked the second level (mission) via the fourth images from the bottom in my review above, where it shows a yellow star on a blue background in the second level of the map.

You can replay any task on any level that has previously been completed.

Do let me know if this is the same for you Delilah, thanks.

Regards Stephen

Whiterabbit-uk, I guess I hadn't played far enough to get it to save my progress. Now I have, and it is. Thanks!

I remember playing this five years ago and liking it, but also remember that I got stuck on a much later task (at the end or almost at the end) and couldn't progress no matter what. But d/l'd it and installed and started playing anyway this time, and we'll see. So far, going smoothly on Win 10. My one complaint is that some of the hints are hidden and you have to double click to enlarge and move the screen to uncover them, but can't stay too long enlarged because then you miss the VERY short extra hint opportunities. Overall, fun for a few minutes at a time.

neme,

Thank you for your feedback neme, appreciated; please do let the community know if the same issue arises again.

I had issues with some objects hiding behind the red window/full screen toggle and close buttons in the top right of the game screen

Ah. A HOG which uses exclusively outlines and images? Then I'll pass on this one: love HOGs, loathe HOGs where you have to work from "pictures," though at least this one doesn't look like you have to collect like the ten small pieces of some object or other!

Joolio,

The game is actually a shareware game being sold on some game sites; however, TooMky Games adds advertising to all of their games which earns them some income. Part of this is paid to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free.

TooMky Games allow the giveaway site to remove parts of the adware, so that it is less intrusive.

So, its better to grab the game here than from TooMky Games.
