Whiterabbit, thank you for your excellent insights, as always.
I've only played this game a little bit, so I can't really write a great review. So far, so good, is all I can say about it. I hope to have more feedback later, but I generally like to play these games a little at a time. This makes it awkward for reviewing, since I encounter problems long after the giveaway has ended.
It pains me to say the main problem I've been having is with the fact that many of the games offered are SO old (this part doesn't bother me), yet the versions of them given here on GAOTD aren't the most current.
More than a few times, I've been stuck in a spot in a game where there is nowhere to go, nothing to do, yet the game hasn't ended. I hope this won't be the case with Magic Farm 2, but if it is, it's extremely likely that by the time I find it, the game will no longer be available for this giveaway.
My point in mentioning the age of the games is this: with a game that's anywhere from 5 years old on, they've obviously been patched and refined, or people would no longer be playing them. So why games should get "stuck" when they're so old is unfathomable. These problems would have been fixed long ago, so why aren't we at least getting the most current version, with all of the bugs worked out?
With the latest two James Patterson games, both times I got to spots where things didn't work right. But those games weren't recent. Twice in a Blue Moon left me at an empty map with nowhere to go; that game is from at least 2009. It's 9 years old and GAOTD can't provide the most recent, bug-free version?
The more recent problematic one, Little Black Lies, is from at least 2010. After 8 years of this game being around, it's still buggy in the GAOTD version? That one had a problem where obtaining a mine map wasn't possible. Without the map, one cannot go any farther, but the mechanism in the library that's supposed to provide it wasn't even available.
Again, I don't understand why, with games that are over 5 years old, the bug-free versions aren't the ones available here.
I'm giving GAOTD one more chance with Magic Farm 2, but if I find a similar problem - and this game is pretty old, too, from at least 2011 - that's it. It's useless to play a game that can't be played to completion. I've been using this site for years and have noticed a huge difference between the earlier offerings and the ones now. I even tried writing to the email address for such concerns and was told the games are provided "as is." Which would be fine if they were the latest bug-free versions from perhaps 5 years ago...but they're not. And the James Patterson games aren't the first games to have problems.
A big thank you to Whiterabbit...for so long you've been giving very helpful information and if I stop downloading these offerings, honestly, I'll especially miss your reviews.

Whiterabbit,
Thanks so much for your response! :)
Of course you're correct...I do remember back during those times, when games were much more plentiful. It's sad the entire field has been hurt by the financial crisis (and worse, is still hurting). :(
I guess more than anything, the worst part now isn't so much that the games are old - I think that's fine and even enjoy older games - but if they *are* older, they should be the current versions, because a version 2.0 or 1.0 will still have bugs, such as with the aforementioned James Patterson games. Because the bug fixes aren't in the oldest versions of the software, the games can't be completed. At the very least, an older game should be playable to completion. Many of the offerings now simply aren't, due to bugs that were undoubtedly fixed long ago in subsequent updates.
No matter what, though, Whiterabbit, your reviews have always been delightful, enjoyable and spot on. :)

This is a good game to relax to. Although it's a time management game, there isn't really a time limit as to how long you take to finish the goals. You can plant as many plants as you feel comfortable handling, which may take you longer to reach the goals but it also makes it easier if you don't have too many plants to take care of. The game adjusts to the skill of the player.
After the first game they came out with Magic Farm: Ultimate Flower, which was just the first game with some tasks removed (mainly the exam) and a new level added. It's like they hadn't finished the game when they first released it.
Unfortunately, the game feels a little unfinished, as if there were suppose to be more goals to achieve and more locations, much like the first version of the first game. It takes long enough to reach that point, but it does feel as if it could have used a couple more locations and maybe more minor tasks.
It's like they had a good game idea but it was never quite completed. It's fun to play but despite add-ons you do get the feeling at the end that it's unfinished.
I would recommend playing the first game first.

As for yesterdays game and the crashing. I put it compatibility mode (Win 7) and everything works fine.

Bryan, I had to go all the way back to Win Vista compatibility to eliminate a runtime error with yesterday's game. Seems to work fine with Vista compatibility mode.
